Wednesday scent of the day 7/13

Posted by Robin on 13 July 2022 183 Comments

It's Wednesday and I've overslept terribly. Watch for the Buck supermoon tonight! It's also French Fries Day, plus a very happy 82nd birthday to Sir Patrick Stewart. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in a little drop of Le Labo Lys 41, on my buy list but I'll probably never pay the price.

Reminder: 7/15 will be FBW Friday...wear a full-bottle-worthy perfume that you have not yet bought, but would like to. (This is probably a repeat.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

“I like it” is the best reason of all for wearing a perfume.

    House twin!🙌 I’m in Bergamote 22.
After a couple of restless nights, I slept like a rock last night! This morning is beautiful and felt cooler than it has in days. It *almost* reminded me of how some fall mornings feel, but then I quickly shoved that out of my mind! Not yet!😩

I have a few candidates for Friday, but I’m trying some untested samples today and tomorrow to see if anything else makes my list. Right now I’m testing 16a Orchard from Aedes de Venustas. It’s nice enough, but I don’t think I’d even need a travel spray.

Showering later today because I have a mammogram appointment this afternoon. I’ll try another sample after that’s all over.

I’m wearing 1899 from H de P, which is one of my favorites of the brand. It’s from my discovery set. I wouldn’t mind a travel bottle, but I will probably make do with a decant.

My paternal Grandmother, Hemmingway, and E. B. White were all born in 1899. I’ve often thought about how they might have all understood certain things about living in that time, as many of us remember 1979, 1989 and 1999, though their life circumstances were so different.

    Ciao to everyone..

If Springpansy happens to be reading today, I finished the article by George Will that you gave me the link to. I was not surprised by much of what he said, but it is a concern for society with the lack of liberal arts majors, and I read the link he provided in his article.

I am having to pause on Madam Bovary as one of my library books came in and I started reading. Its called English Etiquette, perfect for me since sometimes I have no etiquette 🙁 My friend recommended it me after I was telling her how sometimes I have a hard time making small talk in social situations where I don’t know anyone. I will put it to the test this coming week when I have an event.

SOTD, for the CP, Cartier Panthere

      Ciao LTSG!

      1. You smell very nice today. I happen to have a (recently acquired) bottle of La Panthère eau Légère EdP. I could send you a decant if it’s something you’d be interested in. Let me know, you have my email.
I don’t know how it compares to the other La Panthères but from what I’ve read they are not that different.
      2. I too sometimes have a hard time making small talk with strangers so I’m curious to know if you found this book helpful for those situations.

Hi LTSG, busy morning at work so I’m just now joining NST to check in. Thanks for posting about the Will article. You’re doing a great job encouraging your children to read — you set a great example with your own reading and you take them to the library!

My best tip for talking to strangers (also hard for me) is to ask them about themselves. That usually gets the conversation going at least.

    Hello all!

Robin overslept and I woke up four hours early. Must be something in the air!

I’m in Baiser Vole, the OG EdP. Very pretty but I feel like I missed the more interesting variants. I dithered about blind-buying the extrait when it was $80 on fragrance net until it sold out! As is I feel like a fluffy cloud.

    Have a great day everyone!

Nothing yet today, but I will report on yesterday’s new Francesca Bianchi Libertine Neroli. It supposedly has some animalic notes but I really didn’t get that, just a potent classic neroli with the characteristic soapy note. Despite having covid, my sense of smell is even more acute than ever, just a few drops from the dabber vial smelled strong. Crossing fingers my sniffer doesn’t get affected later.

It’s only 430am but I love the peacefulness of early mornings, listening to the rain and the dogs snoring, and the house feels settled. I was outside and the moon is behind cloud but there is a blue glow-light. I am wearing Vanilliary, from an ancient bottle ( in ant years). I miss those old Lush bottles, with their quirky labels. They had a personality that is missing now. I am glad I kept my dropper bottles too. Be well!

Hi NST! I have a day at home and it is so peaceful and quiet. When things are stressful, I really value time alone in my dim, cool little house. For the CP, I’m wearing Zoologist Chipmunk. On paper, I should love this and it smells very good, especially the drydown, but I have too many scents that smell similar so I don’t need Chipmunk. Now, if a travel bottle fell from the sky I’d happily wear it.

Woke late again today, and feeling rested! I can’t really blackout the van because the windows need to stay open and the fan spinning, so I’ve been wearing quite a nice eye mask that works well to black out my eye balls no matter what time of day. It’s the only reason I can sleep past sunrise in the summer.

I’m wearing The 7 Virtues Vetiver of Haiti today, sent to me by a lovely NSTer. It’s a wonderful summer weight Vetiver that leans a bit sweet and feminine. So far, my CP compliance is a big belly flop because I’ve been using FB’s all week. I’m grateful to have them, and while I have limited space, my collection is “just enough” for me.

Went through all my lippies this week and tossed many of them since I haven’t worn them at all in the Time of Covid. It was a little heartbreaking because I had some more expensive ones like the Bobbi Brown Crushed lip colors and oils, but really, it was time for them to go.

    Happy Humpday!

Avignon is fantastic. I got a sample vial when I first starting trying perfumes, didn’t like it. I dropped the tiny vial on the bathroom floor and it broke. I vacuumed up the mess and my bathroom and vacuum smelled great. I ended up buying a bottle and loving it. Incense has definitely been an acquired taste for me but now it is one of my favorite categories.

I wore Bronze Goddess but ending up killing time at Sephora and spraying myself with lots of different scents. The mix smells surprisingly good.

Trying out some sample dab vials today. First up was Strangers Perfumery Yuzu Soda: liked the top, drydown was blah for me, but would probably smell great on a guy.

Now trying 19-69 Capri and really digging the top. If I like the drydown I could see myself reaching for this!

The thought of letting go of all of the responsibilities associated with work fills me with joyful anticipation. Yay – I’m a few months ahead of you on August 22nd. I know that retiring doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t work again, but I’m curious how I will feel about purchasing perfumes once I leave. Will I feel worried about income? Freer to do what I want? Not need/want as much as I will be less stressed? We shall see.

From a sample, one of many delectable smells from Atelier. I have several decants from the house, too, but never bought a full bottle.

I almost bought Bois Blonds. But the company switched something in the base, and it turned dill pickle on me.

Perfume inspiration today is from my neighbor. She gave me pomelos from their tree. So sweet, like a valencia orange, but with a bitter twist, like a grapefruit. LOVETHEM!YUM!YUM!YUM!

One of those “like but not love” perfumes, but not so long lasting that I can’t wear somethig else later in the day – going to root through and pick something else for the evening. Madtowngirl was right; the sun did return to my area today. But I did not get the bluebird skies that she has enjoyed. There were a few little happy white clouds dotting the skies today. And a big wallop of humidity! The trip out to the mailbox was kinda yucky, tbh.

Had a less than optimal night of sleep last night. I woke up at 3:30-ish and did not get back to sleep until sometime after 6:15. Frustrating. I wonder what is in the air?

One of our neighborhood does had twins last year, and I suspect they are the two spike bucks who are following her and her new twin fawns around. The five of them stop by almost every day; yes, the frisky fawns are so cute; but my poor mowed-down hostas were not. Not for the CP, but SotD Amouage Myths. Boy-o-boy do I love this one. I was surprised to find that I did have more than one sample that might be worthy of the CP. Probably going with Zoologist Civet tomorrow…

I went outside earlier tonight to look for the Buck Supermoon but had no luck. I think the moon wasn’t high enough in the sky for viewing.

Sorry! I don’t like to see deer in my yard anymore either.

Not CP compliant, as I’m wearing Rose Kabuki from a decant. I like it very much but I won’t be buying a full bottle. I have some candidates in mind for Friday, though, and might break one out for tomorrow!

It’s been too hot to wear fragrance during the days this week so it’s just been sunscreen for me. Last night I put on several sprays of Chanel No.19 Poudre; might have to try it again tonight.

We got the replacement recycling bin delivered today (happened in tandem with our regular pickup day). I’m quite relieved about that!

In gardening woes, we discovered that my front bed zinnias were in fact, green amaranth. I think the seeds somehow were mixed up (very badly). Ended up pulling it all out because I think it could become invasive if left in. Plus I didn’t see zinnia flowers forming yet, and they definitely should have been. We discovered the plant identity through a plant identifier app.

And then the “new” gardeners took out my snapdragons and foxglove flowers (not that they flowered yet). They probably mistook them for weeds? Although, maybe they were since they were also started from seeds. Just my luck this week!

Aw, that’s a shame about your poor snapdragon and foxglove plants! 😢
