Monday scent of the day 7/11

Posted by Robin on 11 July 2022 154 Comments

Monday again! It’s also Free Slurpee from 7-Eleven day and World Population Day (that would be almost 8 billion). Birthdays: James Abbott McNeill Whistler, EB White, Jhumpa Lahiri. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm starting off my shopping list with Blackbird Y06-S.

Reminder: 7/15 will be FBW Friday...wear a full-bottle-worthy perfume that you have not yet bought, but would like to. (This is probably a repeat.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    I’m in Eau des Merveilles.
It’s Monday, and it’s overcast, so it has me feeling in a bit of a slump. This too shall pass. Will try and get out for a lunch time walk, which should help.
I had a pretty nice weekend with a good balance of getting stuff done and relaxing. Plus the weather was perfect. We started getting my daughters stuff together for camp yesterday. She leaves in 2 weeks and is getting so excited! The packing list is pretty long so I don’t want to leave it til the last minute.

Wearing Imaginary Authors A Whiff of Waffle Cone, I’m really enjoying my sample. We had perfect weather all weekend and I got so much done! I love being domestic with all the windows open and the music on, then having a cold beer on the patio.

    Ciao a tutti (hello everyone)
I am in an Italian state of mind after watching F1 racing yesterday and my heart throb for Ferrari won. We are a big F1 watching family.

I think I will participate in the CP all week since I dream of Full Bottles of almost all the samples I have 🙂

    SOTD is Iris Torrefie

Also fits well with the book I am reading, Madam Bovary.

My heart broke for Sainz yesterday. And my husband is a huge Checo fan, so he was quite upset right from the get go. I’m happy for you that your heart throb finally won, it was a great race!

My kids love Red Bull (they are 7 and 6) and know the names of all the drivers.
I think Sainz and LeClerc are great drivers and excellent poster boys for Ferrari 😉
When the car kept rolling on Sainz everyone was shouting at the TV-get him out! As if they could hear us in Austria …

Monday, Monday. I’m still behind at work from last week. We get new carpet soon (badly needed) and spent a lot of time this weekend preparing by packing up stuff to make furniture easier to move.

I’m wearing a Profumum Confetto sample. Would I like a bottle? Yes! Will I buy one? Unlikely. But I might spring for the lotion.

Etat Libre d’Orange Charogne, which is *so* strange. It smells vintage and modern at the same time, it’s incense and leather but it really isn’t, it’s sort of a floral but not exactly. I can never tell if I like it or not, but I wear it every once in a while, just in case.

ELDOs can be so strange. I haven’t heard of your Sotd but I bought a couple of bottles (Afternoon of the Faun and Archives 69) at a discounter and wanted to like them based on reviews but just can’t manage it. If my nose doesn’t change its mind by the next splitmeet, I am going to see if I can find a nose(s) that enjoys them more.

I’m in the last whiff of Tauer’s Vanilla Flash. I bought a full bottle unsniffed and was disappointed in it on arrival. When I started traveling in 2017 I left it in my refrigerator because it didn’t make the cut. Fast forward two and half years, I sold my house and packed up the perfumes in my fridge. Two and half more years go by and I’m finding every time I wear it, I like it more. I don’t know if “aging” is a thing in perfume like it is in wine but I swear it’s gotten deeper, more complex, smoother, and a tad bit sweet over the years. Glad I didn’t give up on it.

In other news, I was talking to a fellow traveler last night and heard that some hospitals in Canada are intermittently closing their ER’s due to lack of staff, both nurses and physicians. People and EMS are then having to travel much further to get emergent medical care, which literally makes a life and death difference. I’m predicting the US may follow suit soon after already seeing the closing of so many smaller hospitals that haven’t been gobbled up by huge healthcare corporations because they’re not lucrative enough. Scary times on so many fronts these days. It behooves us all to continue to spritz and waft in a brave attempt to defeat the oncoming tide of woe and hard times…

That’s my Monday Pick Me Up Spiel! 😃

Definitely vanilla perfumes improve with age, some others too. As for the health care situation, sadly I am not surprised, it’s all about money and the Canadian provinces in particular have been cutting and underfunding health care for the past 30+ years. I would not bother going to a hospital unless I had a broken leg/arm, stroke or heart attack, and only in an ambulance. A friend had an extreme hypertensive episode and sat for 7 hours in an urgent care waiting room before giving up and go8ng home. Same when my husband was hit by a car on his bike and had broken ribs. If you don’t show up in an ambulance you are given no attention.

Definitely think aging works with perfume, particularly any natural ingredients. Nice that you have this in your happy stash.

The best hospital in my area is the only one not monopolized by the other two healthcare giant corporations of the state.

Really feeling the Monday slump as well and going to have a second cup of coffee.

One of my coworkers and her family have Covid and then already had it previously. Then the women leading the meeting I was just on said she was back from vacation and also recovering from it. Mr. She-ra continues to improve but tested positive via a home test today still. He initially tested positive on 7/2.

Just doused myself in the new Prada Infusion d’Ylang. Lots of ylang, citrus and spices so far.

Sending big hugs to all NSTers this Monday morning of blech. ♥️

Lots of healing vibes for your family and co-workers. It really makes me wonder when people get it multiple times 🤔. Are some people just more vulnerable? Did they not truly recover from their initial bout? Is the home test (and assuming this is what they’ve used) accurate?

As we get new variants, people who have already had covid don’t always have immunity to the new variant. That’s why you can get Omicron multiple times…it’s not exactly the same Omicron 🙂

For the moment I’m twins with PriscillaE in Wood Sage & Sea Salt. I do (did, in fact) find it FBW — am on my second small bottle. There are several things that I’m pining to own in more than mere decant proportions, one of which is Bel Ami. Can’t think why I haven’t sprung for one yet, unless it’s the current-formula vs. vintage conundrum. I have two decants, and sadly don’t know what vintage either is. There are differences, but I love them both so I’m kind of thinking it doesn’t really matter whether I track down that lovely cocktail shaker bottle version or just get the current version. Any advice?

We have lots of overlap on our wishlist. I know I’ve chimed in before to tell you Arabian Horse is on my list, and it still is. I could also go for a travel size of Hemingway and some Neroli Outrenoir. I love the Au Dela Narcisse and have an older bottle. I don’t think you’d regret getting that one. And I used to have Yuzu Fou and swapped it away but now wish I still had some. It seems our noses and preferences are very aligned!

Hello, everyone. I’m wearing Memo Marfa. Not really for the CP but because I found my (small) bottle and wanted to wear it. There’s something addictive about it! I’m still having a lot of joint pains (wrist, knee, shoulders….)–ugh. Hope when my PT comes this afternoon she can help me stretch or iron things out a bit. Yesterday a friend arrived here all the way from Athens–she is good company and likes cats. She’s here for a conference at Rice U. Too bad they picked a week of record heat–it’s triple digits all week! I hope we don’t lose power. I haven’t seen this friend for literally 30 years (except on Facebook), but am glad to know we can still enjoy talking away a mile a minute. She brought me a sort of herbal drink from Greece called mastiha. I’d never heard of it but we had some last night. It’s a clear spirit and is rare and expensive, made from a kind of gum resin. It’s kind of mint + pine. I love the smell! it would make a neat perfume, I’d think.

We might have rolling blackouts, per an email I received this morning. The Ercot website shows the daily alerts: Ercot dot com. Spellcheck thinks I’m talking about Epcot – wish I was there!

That’s great to have a long time friend visit! It sounds like you’re already have a great time. I hope your PT can help ease your discomfort.

So glad you are having fun with your friend.

There are perfumes with mastic! (Same resin used to flavor your liqueur. And sometimes it is listed as lentisque) A few: PdE Corsica, Cinq Mondes Eau Egyptienne, Aesop Mystra, AG Ninfeo Mio, L’Artisan Caligna

I was in The 7 Virtues Grapefruit Lime and Orange Blossom for my workout earlier. After shower, I’m collecting a cp point with Shay & Blue Blood Oranges. I’d love a full bottle of this one. It’s definitely orange, but with some gentle musk in the drydown, and it’s not laundry musk either.

Now the T7V’s…I’m not sure I’d need a full bottle of either, but I’d definitely swap for them. Maybe that would be a good community project: wear something that you like a lot, but aren’t sure you’d splash out for a full bottle…but you’d certainly swap for it. Why Buy When You Can Swap.

Got an email from my electric company saying Ercot may have rolling blackouts. Thanks Blerrgh-Cot. 🥵

Oh they were warning us in the spring. We have never had to use rolling blackouts here and I think they were trying to super prepare us. Apparently so many people were upset by the this. ( including me) then later the electric company came out and said they no longer thought it to be an option for our state.

We had rolling black outs one year in the winter in Florida back in the 80’s. Totally opposite problem, of course, but I remember it so well because the black out happened to us right when the Christmas turkey was about halfway done. We had no warning ahead of time, just BOOM! no power for about 4 hours. We huddled around the unlit Christmas tree wrapped in blankets with the fireplace just roaring. It was the only warm room in the house. When the power came back on, the news “updated” us on “imminent rolling blackouts.” Better late than never I guess…

If I remember right we were, but it wasn’t done until very late. It was one of the rare
Christmas days we didn’t have anyone over other than family. Unlike my antisocial self, my parents were quite gregarious and liked to entertain and have a big to do on the holidays, with all the accompanying drama! My mother was weeping and moaning and cursing Florida Power to the depths of Hell all afternoon. 😃

It’s hot – for the UK – 30C and have listened to the advice and drank water all day but I’m taking it with a grain of salt as I’ve lived through twelve New York summers.

Was in the ever affordable Yves Rocher Monoi Eau des Vahinés, more suitable for a beach vacation I’m unlikely to take this year, there is real tiaré in it if I understand Gardenia Tahitensis extract correctly. Tonight it’s Shalimar Philtre, I think from 2 quarters ago, so that want was fulfilled, it’s my second wearing, it’s an easy-going, light Shalimar, I find it suedy and irissy and more floral, but then that’s what I remember from Shalimar Initial too, so was it necessary?…

And yes, you were correct about my summer Opium flanker earlier this summer. It’s still hanging out as part of the summer perfume selection.

The Fleur Impériale flanker of Opium is a really good alternative to the heavier original, glad we are twin users.

Spent an anticlimactic morning at the doctor’s. Apparently the pain that is keeping me up at night and causing me gasp at awkward times is degenerative scoliosis. Doc says I’ve had it for a while as my spine’s a mess. What are we going to do about it you ask? Schedule an MRI. That’s it. That and some medication for seizures. Go figure. I am ever so slightly curious about the meds as Medline explains that it works by “decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.” Oh my goodness!

Anyway, home, I am now happily wafting copious amounts of Chamade parfum.

Sorry to hear this, OF. I have not had any problems in a while, but I remember all too well the “gasp” from pain with a pinched nerve. Physical therapy helped me and it seems insurers are reluctant to pay for much of it. “Abnormal excitement in the brain” sounds like a diagnosis on par with “the vapors” or the “epizudics.”

I found out I had scoliosis when I started cycling. After half an hour bent over on the bike, the muscles tightened up so much I couldn’t breathe. However, continued cycling eventually loosened things up or strengthened the muscles and the spasms stopped. I wonder if there is any PT that can help you?

I am too fragile just now for the jolting and bumps on a bike, but I have the same pattern with walking—hurts at first and then after about a mile and a half the spasms stop and I feel the best I feel all day. I’m waiting for my first PT appt, which is a week from Wed. I was using a stationary bike for a while too.

My sense of smell is coming and going, but seems to be improving. At least I’m not suffocating any colleagues with over-applied perfume, I’m working from home and doing half days as I get over Covid. I feel mostly fine, except that I’m easily tired, my morning shower was hard work and commuting to the lounge feels daunting. I will focus my mind with Tobacco Vanille.

Oh, I’m sure I do, but with new variants popping up every 10 minutes, who knows? I’m especially ticked because this unit is considered “clean,” meaning no Covid+ patients. They placed the patient on the wrong unit because the “rapid” Covid test hadn’t resulted yet. The rule of thumb for admissions is to test and place accordingly to admission diagnosis and Covid result. This was an emergent cath for a patient having an MI, so they took him to cath lab immediately. BUT, he should not have been assigned to a unit until the Covid test resulted. Just poor patient management, imo. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SOTD = Chanel Les Eax de Chanel Paris Edimbourg

From a split decant – the green juice is very on the eyes and it smells fantastic: fresh, spicy, woody, musky and vanillic! I was tempted to buy a smaller bottle but Nordstrom did not have it. In time, I will.

I swear my phone is watching what I do. I got a freebie Paula’s Choice something or other from my Nordie’s purchase. It was in the bag and I took it out to resettle it inside the shopping bag. I did not talk to anyone about it nor did I search for it. Guess what? It showed up as an ad on my Insta. 🙄. And Ruggables. My sister mentioned it to me … and it showed up in many many ads.

I was walking down an escalator to my train track. A woman ahead of me was on her phone and gesticulating (gesturing?) that SHE. REALLY.REALLY.REALLY.NEEDED.THE.THERAPY.SESSION! But their hours and her hours don’t match. I got all these listening to her for 3 seconds. I dare not ask her to excuse me but seriously, no concern about other people!

Also noticed today on NJ Transit – a good 90% of the people were wearing their mask! In the last few weeks, mask-wearing was down to barely 1/3.

A perfect summer day, weather-wise, for me. It could not be improved upon. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to have a couple of weeks of it. Not going to happen, though.

Went grocery shopping at 2 stores today. Plenty of polite people at the Wegman’s near me. But almost nobody is masking up besides me. I’m going to keep on doing it, especially since 2 friends of mine had a near-miss with COVID recently.

SOTD = Wrappings EdP for Monday. Spent all weekend in it, too. But I did take a quick sniff of my sample of Dame Soliflore Narcissus perfume oil this morning. Ohhhhhhhhh, I like! That one might well be worth the 10mL rollerball format it comes in.

I have enough left for at least one wearing and I want to use that to compare it to Jardin en Mediterranee; I have a sneaking suspicion they may be too similar to justify a bottle of each.

For those of you who don’t remember it, see here: https://freebox.it.com/2022/06/24/wright-no-100-new-fragrance/%3C/a%3E I ordered it because I was really excited about a bacon fragrance…though I don’t really smell much (any?) bacon. It mostly smells like a warm leather oriental. Nice dose of vanilla and patchouli. The first couple minutes of it are pretty masculine (nice hit of bergamot), but then the citrus disappears and all the warm notes rush in. It reminds me a bit of MFK Cologne pour le soir, actually.

Anyway, since I don’t get any bacon from it, I really don’t need this bottle. **Freebie alert** Would anyone like to try this? The bottle is actually quite nice, wooden cap and a velvety matte finish to the bottle itself. CONUS only.
