My SOTD on tap today will be Victoria’s Secret Angel Gold. I have a whole bunch of those VS samples that I purchased many years ago during the annual clearance sales so I am diving in a bit.
I am kind of glad I will be at work tonight, since my next door neighbor will be shooting off fireworks right in our street; last year some of them were so loud I and a few others went out to complain; they ignored us of course. My poor kitty will probably be hiding in the basement when I get home.
We couldn’t make it to our town fireworks because I was sick. But…wow…incredibly loud. We are less than a mile from the beach where they are shot off. Thankfully, kitty didn’t even flinch.
I have three kitties that hide…we have neighbors EVERYWHERE that shoot the fire works from Friday to Monday every night
Same here, but we weren’t here Friday and then Saturday it was too wet. They made up for it last night 🙂
It’s been oddly quiet around here, fireworks-wise. I wonder if tonight will be the big BOOM?
Thankful that fireworks don’t bother my cats. Just the doorbell!

Today I’m wearing the original Salvador Dalí, yet another one of those big eighties orientals I can never get enough of: it’s probably the scent most directly responsible for really igniting my mania for scents. It’s absolutely stunning.

I’m in Eau de Soleil Blanc, because Tom Ford is the only American perfumer in my summer line up.
We’ve had beautiful weather all weekend and now today is overcast and a line of storms is moving in. We didn’t have anything outside planned anyway, but it means I will have to cook dinner since grilling is not gonna happen. lol. Calypso mentioned sloppy joes yesterday and that sounded so good, that’s what I’m planning.
I got a text from my mom this morning that my college girl has the day off from her summer camp job and will spend the day with them. The camp is just 10 minutes from their house and she’s gotten a few overnight visits with them already this summer. They love it, and it makes me happy that they can all spend some time together.☺️

My beloved house cleaner/faux adopted daughter/sweet friend is on vacation today so I am facing the daunting task of cleaning my messy quarantine house. And Rocky mountain sized piles of laundry, oof. Wearing clouds of Shalimar.
Yesterday we attempted to groom the cat, poor thing has mats all over from shedding. We had to admit defeat and Larry will be going to the vet where they can sedate him, it was a rough half hour for all three of us. My job was to hold his front end and I had to wear these huge bbq gloves since Larry is a biter, my husband manned the clippers….we got really quiet ones but they just aren’t powerful enough….there was fur everywhere and the cat looks untouched. Lots of treats for him and we had frozen daiquiris on the patio.
In Shalimar as well! Your poor kitty. Our little tyrant will bite as well. He’s okay with grooming, but we had to get a pill down his throat once— me bloodied, laughing and crying, my son bloodied and shirt torn, cat asleep, pills in various stages of yuck on the carpet—we gave up🤣
Oh, I’m awaiting that day when we have to give him medication. He’ll be a terrible patient.
The easiest way to medicate the two cats I currently have is either transdermal meds (easy!), or shots (not so much). Pills are completely out of the question.

It’s my favorite perfume to wear when I’m home by myself, at least 6-8 sprays. Yum.
Poor kitty, and poor you for having attempted that grooming. Fur mats are horrible to deal with.
I feel so bad for him, it has to be very uncomfortable.
Our kitty Cici used to get the worst matts. She was so patient when we brushed them out – such a sweetheart.

It is going to be another hot, sunny, humid day. We had loud fireworks last night from some neighbors and today will be even louder, since we have the big display at our nearby park and the neighbors will also join the noise with their own fireworks. I have to be at work before 7am tomorrow, so I hope I can get some sleep tonigh.
Hot dogs and a beer for dinner. Planning a lazy, relaxing afternoon/evening getting a couple of naps and watching tv.

Surprisingly, no noise in my area tonight. The fireworks in the park were cancel in solidarity with the events in Illinois and the neighbors have been pretty quiet. I am wondering what happened to them.

A balmy 61 outside. I want to go for a walk, but the grey cold day is dampening my enthusiasm.
In perfume news, I’m in Shalimar. Created by Jacques Guerlain, but I’m in the edp—so no doubt reformulated. Which brings me to the reformulation of Chanel No. 5, which now also comes in edp, which is connected to another Jacques. Jacques Polge was the nose for Chanel No. 5 edp. So, voila?

Robin, I wish that my town had a fireworks display. It doesn’t though, so if I want to see any, I have to travel at least a couple of towns over.
Same here…although really only 15 minutes away, and my town does do rather a lot of holiday stuff (we have five or six yearly parades, among other things) so I don’t mind that they take off the 4th of July.

I did! Finished off Murder on the Orient Express while the boys ate ice cream, drank beer and watched the fireworks. They facetimed me so I did see a few minutes of the display 🙂

Happy Independence Day! SotD Bal a Versailles, which may not be exactly appropriate in some way…but I have a long-standing tradition of bringing out my heavies on hot Summer days! Our and several surrounding neighborhoods had our 61st annual Fourth of July Parade yesterday, and it was so wonderful to see all the little kids with their decorated trikes and scooters and bikes. Some people had treats at the end of their driveways for those needing to social distance, and there was a gathering on a cul-de-sac with some other foods and introductions of new neighbors and socializing. A very happy couple of hours, and I got to catch up on some of the kids and what they’ve been doing. It’s a nice tradition for parents of little kids, who can have a “festivity” without having to pack up everyone in their car and find parking, etc. to see the city’s parade!

I’m very happy to be on vacation but sad that I don’t have more perfume at my disposal to properly play the CP.
For example, I did get a bottle of Fat and the Moon’s Persephone Emerges from a local apothecary on the island and it does contain Jasmine Absolute which is also a note in Chanel No 5. 🙂

Lopez Island. We love it here and even when it’s cold and rainy, it’s cozy and fun.

SOTD = Smell Bent Sticky
My package got wet as I mentioned previously but the packaging was done really well and everything was fine. My only complaint is that I did not get the freebie that I wanted although I may still like the one I got instead (St. Tropez Dispenser) as long as it is not too coconutty and synthetic. Sticky is smoked patchouli and vanilla. It did not last long but it was good while it lasted.
If I play my perfumes right, although I have not thought it through, this is 5 degrees of separation from Chanel No.5. All to be revealed in due course 🤣.
Yesterday, I was finally able to use my Starbucks reward stars for a free drink and believe you me, I customized it to the tune of $13-$14.
I leverages the LuckyScent code courtesy of She-ra! I pre-ordered Zoologist Sacred Scarab and also got the Gallivant Gdansk. Sacred Scarab will be split for sure (30-40mL) although it is too hot to even think about mailing packages for whenever it gets chez moi.

I spent the day in I Profumi di Firenze Arancio di Capri sprayed all over my clothes so that it would last, in Mauboussin Histoire d’eau tonight, always great longevity that one, plummy goodness to my nose.
Orange on the clothes is a good thing 🙂

Monsoon was very much an aquatic on me when I tried it.
I’m a little nervous about that, but I’m trying to break out of my comfort zone.
I seem to amp up aquatic notes to 11, so keep that in mind.

I “celebrated” by watching the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating contest. Or rather, I listened to the audio as it was being televised. I made the mistake one year of actually watching the guys and gals wolf down the hot dogs and was rather queasy afterwards.

It’s a low key holiday here. We are staying home. My daughter “wins” the prize for being the first in our family to test positive for covid. She’s young and strong, and resting in isolation, with few complaints so far.

Today I wore Tom Ford’s Metallique. It was from a deluxe rollerball sample from Sephora that I had completely forgotten about.
First impression: Not bad! I dig this.
Two minutes later: Oh no no no!!!
As my husband said, it went “nuclear baby wipes” on my skin. He tried it on his skin and it smelled fabulous. 😡
Oh no! Metalique is a favorite for me. It can go dryer sheet if I spray to much though.

Happy 4th! We closed the market for the town parade – a group of the young staff march with shopping carts and do formations. The staff not marching heads outside to the front patio to cheer them on and throw water balloons. That latter part I didn’t know – the marchers also have water balloons in their carts. This weekend I was able to get my irises planted; my neighbor was tidying up her garden and ended up removing quite a few plants and really pared things down. I was happy to take a few irises from her overgrown clump.
I also made a lentil sloppy joe recipe on Sunday. It does have some kick with the green chilis and new, fresh chili powder. It does seem that sloppy Joe’s are having a moment this weekend!
Wore the Oil Perfumery version of Chanel Beige. It bloomed quite nicely in the humidity today.

I do know. They are a bearded type, deep purple fall with a lighter purple top standard. I have admired them for a long time and am thrilled to have a few in my back yard!

The Bearded Irises are my favorite! There is nothing else that parallels their fragrance.
Yay for new iris! Mine did not get thinned as they should have been, so I did not get any blooms this year. I need to move the entire patch, so it’s a “project.”
Sloppy Joes were a summer staple when I was a kid. We loved them! Scooped on a nice toasty bun and layered with Bar-B-Que potato chips for some nice crunch when you bit into them. Your irises will be lovely when they bloom!
