Monday scent of the day 6/20

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2022 148 Comments

It's Monday and the last full day of spring. Also, World Refugee Day and Ice Cream Soda Day. Happy 80th to Brian Wilson! What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Guerlain Anisia Bella.

Reminder: on 6/24 we'll celebrate Midsummer 2022. (The solstice is on the 21st, but traditional Midsummer, in some countries, anyway, will be celebrated on the 24th.) Wear what you'd wear to dance around a Maypole or light a bonfire on the beach, or whatever you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

ANOTHER cool, rainy day! This summer is shaping up to be very different from the last, which was extremely hot right from the beginning of June.

Im wearing ELdO Rien, which is definitely not nothing: its a dirty, dirty leather patchouli chypre. (Not as much oakmoss as I’d like, but at least there’s some, and if I want more there’s always La Nuit de Paco Rabanne, which Rien is an obvious descendant of.)

Seems like we had a very wet spring but not sure if it turned out to be truly more than normal for PA.

It is going to hit 100 degrees in my part of Texas today, with the heat index rising to 107. I’m going for fruity in Omnia Coral today.

SOTD = Jo Malone Salty Amber

From a sample. I saw this by chance because I couldn’t keep up with the new releases. Woot, looks like this is probably going to be my next purchase (as in today). I am so easily swayed. I think it is also perfect for our CP for this week!

In other news, I read through the Terms & Conditions of The Meta family of companies:

1 – If you have to keep clicking on various links to various sites, the company is not doing a good job of making the T&Cs easy to understand by the masses who choose to read them. I did not see anywhere that they have a right to your contacts; however, since they can recommend to your contacts similar things that you’re “interested in”, that’s a fancy way of saying they will look at your contacts but only your contacts in your social media accounts.

2 – You will be marketed to oblivion because you will be shown ads that are tailored to your online behavior such as scrolling through and liking a post if you meet criteria that are so broad that you pretty much can’t escape it; btw, this includes your patterns on Facebook AND your shopping habits 😱 and the habits of your contacts.

3 – There are references to law enforcement but since when have they cooperated?

4 – If you’re a commercial user, you have additional T&Cs; however, they saw it fit to include information regarding where disputes will be decided AND how much one can get. I think they made a mistake here but I’ll have to look again when I feel like it — it will not affect me anyway.

5 – You can adjust your profile to avoid some of these but they don’t show you how.

The bottom line – if you use the Meta family of companies, your life is an open book. Will this deter usage? Who knows? I keep seeing ads for visiting Florida…

I was puzzled because all of a sudden today I started getting a lot of ads for fudge and candy, etc. After pondering for awhile I realized why–just yesterday I had clicked on an ad for a local company’s new special bourbon chocolate pecan pie. And bamboo–I was a new target audience member!

Wow! Thank you so much for reading through the T&C.

Way too easy to pinpoint who I am. They already target me with ads for hospitals close to me. Is that weird?

I noticed a thing yesterday I planned on posting today. That camera on Instagram, which I accidentally slide next to sometimes, is asking for permission to look through my contacts. More, too, but, I’ll report back.

I’m not on Facebook, but my shopping habits-same feeling as you!

I’ve been suddenly seeing a lot of “middle aged woman exercise, diet, skincare and makeup” ads on Instagram. While I am indeed a middle aged woman, I don’t need the reminder that I could lose a little weight, freak out over my wrinkles and cover up my imperfections. 😡

I was talking with Mr. Jalapeno this past weekend about some ads I’ve started seeing on my smart phone. He said that it’s based off your IP address. So if your phone and computer share an IP address, they are also sharing other things.

Creeped me out a little, since one of the ads was for something I had recently ordered from Amazon.

Change of subject: I saw those new bottles in an email from Sephora. They looked rather pretty!

I suppose if you use the same wireless network or cable, the IP addresses could be the same?

Also, the bottles are indeed beautiful!

I think this has become ridiculous. I am sick of all the ads I have to scroll through to get to people I actually follow. Now my feed is so cumbersome, I spend more time trying to fish through “stuff” to get to what I really want to see. Also, really not happy for all the porno and other DM’s I get. I’ll think about it, but I’m probably going to close my account. Meta is a mess. 👎🏼

Thank you for asking. Unfortunately no, still having problems. My wrist bone is healing crookedly and my knee now has scar tissue that limits flexibility. On and on it goes.

Diorella is weirdly similar to Parfum de Therese, which I guess isn’t surprising given that the perfumer was the same, but it has quite different notes. I feel sure that even had I not known about the perfumer I would notice this similarity.

L’Heure Bleue,a vintage edt that is about 1ml away from being thunked!Gorgeous gorgeous.
I’m on a mission again to finish a couple of bottles this year(Kouros,Paco Rabanne Mētal,No. 19 edp to name a few)
It’s so funny to me when I read people’s “weather reports” from other countries,I mean 21 celcius here means thick sweaters and socks, and 32 celcius is perfection.Rain during Winter in my part of South Africa basically halts human existence, where as the guys in Cape Town LIVE for the rainy winter season which is now.
    Happy Monday!!

Winter solstice today and we are expecting a high of 7C. I always sleep with the window open and now my bedroom feels like an ice box…probably because it is ( I can see my breath so probably close to zero). Sunrise at 8.20am so a couple of hours to go. But the stars are glorious and Matariki ( Pleiades) has risen ( near Venus) , which heralds the beginning of the Maori New Year: a time to reflect on the past and all those during the year ( who rise to the stars), a time to let go of burdens and embrace the present and gain strength, and also look forward to the year ahead and honour the earth: water and land, fish and creatures. Wearing Mitsuoko.

Commando at the moment, but I am testing out two scents on cards – Valentino Donna Born in Roma Coral Fantasy and Paco Rabanne Olympéa. Both are pretty so I may need to get travel sizes…. has anyone layered with either one of them? If so what is your favorite combo?

I really like the Coral Fantasy. It’s a happy smelling perfume without the overdose of ambroxan. I haven’t tried the other one.

That’s the one I prefer most as the other leans a bit too salty sweet for my tastes to wear as a stand alone…

I just got a dm from an epilepsy group on Instagram. I posted a comment regarding their insulting post. It was a non apology. Asking me how they should word their post and saying where they got their disturbing information. Which is a really awful, but professional looking website.
    I need my Amazing Grace.

Gorgeous day for my last day of Spring 2022. Enjoying it by having the patio door cracked open for fresh air, and a steak dinner.

Still waiting for bottles of Incensed and St. Tropez Dispenser Gold from the Smell Bent closing sale. Hope that shipment hasn’t gone awry.

I do like this one a lot! It is very evocative of Coppertone back in the 1970’s. It’s a white floral with other stuff that plays very well with hot & humid weather. Doesn’t blow up and become a perfume Godzilla.

I’m in American Perfumer Benton Park, from a generous NSTer. It’s a non-indolic tuberose with something minty, with vetiver in the base. It’s the nicest experience I’ve had with tuberose in … ever, really!

I can’t complain about the weather here, so I won’t. Feeling for all you peeps sweating in the 90-110F temps. Ugh! 🥵

SOTD is SL Vetiver Oriental, a delicious scent that is equally comfortable in cold or hot weather. A veritable shapeshifter of a perfume, I’m glad I have a full bottle! It reads just a tad bit masculine on me, but I don’t mind in the slightest.

In IT news, I’ve been locked out of my agencies online app, and after I finally getting a hold of a live person (two days and 60 minutes later), I was told the problem is not the app, it’s my phone which is not recognizing my face. I rebutted that my facial recognition works fine for every other face ID app I use, but nope, they insisted it’s my phone. I was told to just sign in the “old fashioned way.” Problem solved…😵‍💫

I haven’t posted much since last week, I had a very brutal week at work. Someone very close to me was wrongly dismissed. It’s been extremely demoralizing and upsetting, and a lot of us have been affected by it. Sigh! I’ve seen such evils of office politics before, but never so close to me.

It’s been very nice distraction to catch up on posts, especially the very touching ones from Father’s Day yesterday. I do feel better this week, less emotional and less on edge. Ready to be pleasantly distracted by scents and to appreciate all the things that bring me joy!

    SOTD is Rose d’Amalfi.

Thanks for reminding me to catch up on the Father’s Day posts. I saw somewhere, someone called it Heavenly Father’s Day, for all of us who have lost our fathers. I like that.
