In EA Green Tea Fig from the recent freebiemeet. It is mostly a green scent with the fig note very prominent. Based on reviews, I was expecting it to be a very sweet scent, but on me the sweetness is barely there, which is a plus for me. I am really enjoying it and I see myself wearing it a lot this summer.
Another grey, warm, muggy day with occasional rain during the day. I am planning to have lunch at one of the Thai restaurant in my area. I want to sit outside, relax, eat and have a glass of wine before I return to the bigger mess I have created with my cleaning and organizing! I am losing it! 🤯

Lots of despair here in South Texas and I spent time tearfully watching the news before I woman-ed up and fired off emails to my elected representatives.
Had some time off and spent most of it commando doing chores and exercising with a fair amount of reading mixed in. I tried out a sample of Commes de Garçons Jaisalmer. I just ordered Kyoto for myself. I have to say, the incense series is very good.

Question of the day-I notice a lot of love for the Zoologist perfumes. For someone that loves primarily floral and fruity, which stands out to you?

I’m wearing Los Flores by Provision today. It suits the sunshine we have after what seems like a week of nonstop rain.
I wanted to wear a lavender scent today but the only one I own is Gris Clair and that would just be too much for a warm day. Does anyone have a favorite “summer lavender” perfume?
For spring/summer I like to wear Hermes Brin de Reglisse and Bvlgari Au the Bleu. Both nice and refreshing.
2nd both of those.
The 4711 Remix Cologne Lavender edition is really nice, and cheap as chips on fragnet. I use it as a bedtime fragrance sometimes too. I can send you a decant of it if you’d like. 😊
And their Acqua Colonia Lavender & Thyme is wonderful, possibly my favourite straightforward lavender: they got it exactly right. Not as cheap as the Remix but still very reasonably priced at the discounters.
I completely forgot, I have that one too! I agree, the balance between the lavender and thyme is perfect.
I have a decant of Caron Pour un Homme which I think would be light enough for summer, or Chanel Boy.

Diptyque Geranium Odorata for me today, from a decant. This is a like but not a love.
I was up early, returning stuff from a couple of hardware stores that didn’t work out. Also got some groceries before it got too crowded, but I could tell when I left that it was starting to turn into a madhouse.
I’m making an icebox cake for a Memorial Day get together. I’d forgotten all about those! It’s made of layers of sweetened whipped cream with graham crackers and sliced fruit. Blueberries and strawberries to make it patriotic. 🇺🇸

You’ll do great with this! Sliced bananas + chocolate syrup + chopped nuts, crushed pineapple, vary the graham cracker choice, anything goes. It just needs to sit in the fridge for several hours or overnight before serving. Let me know how it goes!

We made a run to WF and dinner will be burgers on the grill. This weekend is brat fest here which is (you guessed it😂) the world’s largest bratwurst festival. Brats, beer and live bands. We haven’t gone in years and my other half has been half kidding/half serious about going this afternoon to see the BulletBoys. Anyone remember them? Lillyjo and Jalapeno, I’m looking at you.😉

Finally up and out today–been resting up after my second cataract surgery. Both eyes now done, all went well, and it is amazing how bright the world looks without cataracts.
Just a spritz of some random jasmine sample (label worn off)–I smell fresh and that is a good thing.

It’s quite soft and not animalic at all. No “animal desire of lusty musk deer” on me. I get cardamon at the start, then ambrette and a tiny, tiny bit of oud, then a clean musk, but not laundry. It lasts about four hours.

I mostly found it sad but I enjoyed it. She had a rapid-cycling bipolar disease and manifested most of its worst symptoms during episodes, so it’s amazing that she managed to accomplish all that she did.

I don’t know where I first heard about Barbara Bui; I think it was very popular on the fragrance blogs/boards for awhile a number of years ago. I got a big bottle for cheap and I love it. A very comforting warm skin scent, a fave for yoga.

They are requiring everyone to be vaxxed and boosted, to provide a negative COVID test, and to wear masks whenever you are around others and not eating or playing a wind instrument.

I noticed many of fragrances by CSP have vanilla. Do you have a favorite Deva?
I’ve only had a couple. Right now have I have Amour de Cacao, which gets love here quite a bit. Also have the one mentioned in todays post. Have had Apricot Vanille but swapped it away, as well as Coco Figue which I regret swapping. Most are very sweet, so be aware. They have quite a large line that are not as available as the more common ones mentioned.
Glad I asked. I am not a big fan of sweet perfumes so may want to pass on those. Thanks for the information.
Butting in to mention 2 of the non-vanillas that I love…Aqua Motu is one of the few aquatics I like, and L’Eau du Gouverneur is a wonderful sheer spice. I think both were originally made for men, and I should say that both my bottles are VERY old. I don’t really know if they still make them or if they’re reformulated.
We had friends over for brunch today.
One friend brought this amazing white wine from Lebanon.
I made a mushroom frittata, some sausages and salad on the side. Waffles for the kids with berries and creme fraiche, though the adults ended up eating their share of waffles too..
I am sure I am not alone, but I am feeling very melancholy with all the sad events. Cannot express how tight I hold my kids before I send them off on the bus to school. This is a very sad world we live in today for parents to feel this way.
When I am like this, Shalimar gives me lots of comfort. She was my queen during the pandemic. I have some regrets not buying the MVP flanker. Oh well..

A long weekend marking the start of summer, that sounds lovely. We’ve got a long weekend here next weekend, marking Queens’ Birthday, and that’s officially the start of winter. It’s been a lovely mild autumn, but winter had to come eventually.
I can still smell last night’s Francesca Bianchi perfume, Tyger Tyger. All her perfumes have amazing longevity.

There are a lot of busy looking bags out there. Once my mom found a style she liked, she’d go out every few years and buy the exact same one. There was always some anxiety around the hunt to find it again, though.
Because I’m crazy, I found one I liked and bought three of them. Should be good for the duration!

Just returned from the outdoor Patchouli concert – so awesome! Bright sunshine, blue sky, cool breezes, beautiful park with stage next to the pond complete with a pair of swans. Haven’t seen them – Patchouli, not the swans – live for several years so this was a real 🎶 treat. Just 2 sprays as I met up with la familia for a farewell lunch of sorts. My younger sister and BIL are moving to Pennsylvania in mid-June. I suppose I had no expectations that we will all be in this same area “forever”. Be that as it may, we will still see each other although not as often.
If I haven’t mentioned it already, the hair & body mist came in a set of 3 x 2oz bottles, with one each of Island Vanilla, Indian Coconut Nectar and Tahitian Gardenia. The entire set was under $15. I haven’t tried the other two yet but even just the Island Vanilla is perfect for summer.

I have the Persian Rose Hair and Body Mist which I bought for middle Marzipan when the entire scent items were half price (I actually bought two of those, five body butters and four EDP sprays as back up for her). It smells amazing and I use about 16 sprays all over which lasts even on my scent devouring skin.
Persian Rose smells nice. Does she also saturate herself?
She’s a liberal sprayer but not nearly as zany as her mother!

I enjoy Tahitian Gardenia; it’s quite a presence, but stays nice all the way to dry down. A couple reviewers on Fragrantica point out that “tahitian gardenia” is the tiare flower. I get hints of EL Beyond Paradise with it BTW.

My sotd is Dolce Garden from the sample stash. I liked it at first but it’s a little air freshener for me.
Yay for not cleaning! Pork loin roasts were bogo last week, my husband cooked one and I cooked the other. He won, hands down, I put mine in the crockpot and left it on too long. How do you cook yours?
I cooked mine in the oven. I am still trying to learn how to cook one. It turned out a little tough.

I am sampling Profumum Roma Battito d’Ali. The notes sounded good but somehow it is missing the mark for me…a certain soapiness for lack of a better word isn’t pleasing my nose.

I agree Battito Ali is not their best scent. I love Vanitas and Dulcis in Fundo much more.
For the fourth day, I’m in a Lucky Scent sample of Santa Sangre by Bortnikoff. Pretty sure it will make it to full bottle status. Spending my sunny, mild L.A. Sunday with last minute preparations for a dear friend’s memorial service tomorrow. Moving through the tasks with him in mind is sweeter than expected. I feel close to him as I choose his favorite junk food and music for his playlist. He would have liked Santa Sangre too.

As we go into iris blooming time here, I chose Iris Torrefie for today. It seemed too shy when I first got it, but now it’s in my top ten. Its strong point is the way it lingers, maybe even getting a bit more noticeable as they day goes by!

Summertime fragrances..hmm lol it gets so hot here all I wanna do is wear lemonade on me. So last yr it was Eau de Hadrien. Eau Papaguena also sounds like one I could tap into. Btw, not affiliated, but speaking of Elisire fragrances, just one of the best customer service experiences I have had. Franck Salzwedel is super duper nice to communicate with and good experiences all around.

I’ve had a lovely weekend visiting my mom with my son, swinging on the back patio and cooking family recipes. We also attended a local arts festival, and my one regret is not buying a piece of beautiful enamel jewelry, though they were certainly more expensive than I typically buy for myself. The artisans, unusually for this day and age, have no online presence or contact information, so it looks like I’ll have to wait and hope for next year. I wore a Tubereuse Nue and passed some samples along to my mom!

I worked much of the weekend, as it’s the beginning of the tourist hoards arriving. We did find time to hit an art fair on Sunday before I went in to work. I bought a piece of pottery simply because it caught my eye. Also a hand-thrown “walking colander” – a pottery bowl with holes and a handle, so you can wash your fruit and carry it around for eating. We also bought a second painted ceiling tile. A WI woman takes reclaimed tin tiles from various buildings and paints them in a variety of colors. We bought one last year, for our guest bath, and decided it was too small on its own, so will hang another above.
Been staying with summery scents despite rather changeable weather. Mixed it up today with Baiser de Russie. I’m off work, and my husband deserted me for golf. So, I’m relaxing and will head down to see Downtown Abbey in a few hours. It’s funny….lots of people in town, and we live right in town. But we are totally unaware of people unless we venture out. All we see are woods, with the occasional creatures.
Pondering the sale at Pura. But, I have so many candles and room sprays, it seems just plain silly.
