Guerlain Habit Rouge L’Instinct ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 April 2022 6 Comments

Guerlain will launch Habit Rouge L'Instinct, a new flanker to 1965's Habit Rouge for men, in May.

Habit Rouge L'Instinct was developed by Guerlain perfumer Delphine Jelk. The fragrance enhances the leather accord of the original with rose and hemp notes; additional notes include bergamot, maté absolute, patchouli, tonka bean and vanilla.

Guerlain Habit Rouge L'Instinct will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette Intense.

Update: Additional notes for the oriental leather include Sichuan pepper and vetiver. The description from Guerlain...

The first ambery fragrance for men, Habit Rouge pays homage to the art of equestrianism, to human skill and animal strength.

With Habit Rouge L’Instinct, Guerlain’s legendary fragrance for men has been reinvented in a spirit of freedom and power. The spirit of an untamed horse whose vigour and strength have inspired a new eau de toilette intense.

Habit Rouge L’Instinct breathes an air of freedom over the legend by reinterpreting its iconic signature: hemp exalts rose, sending a daring thrill through the iconic patchouli, vanilla and leather accord.

"HABIT ROUGE IS THE FRAGRANCE THAT TRANSCENDS ALL GENERATIONS. WITH HABIT ROUGE L’INSTINCT, I WANTED TO BRING A SPIRIT OF FREEDOM TO THE ORIGINAL GARMENT, LETTING THE FRAGRANCE BREAK FREE OF ITS SHACKLES AND GALLOP OFF. I WANTED TO HEAR THE SOUNDS OF PANTING AND HOOVES." Delphine Jelk, Guerlain Perfumer

New flanker complaint! I don’t always read the fine print (e.g. a teensy “l’instict”) and have come a cropper when I have spritzed what I thought was the original and have had a very shall we say different experience instead. C’mon, Guerlain, change up those bottles, or at least the label design!

Good point. Not sure if it’s the exact shade of red, but it’s not noticeably different.

I like all the uses of red here:). Nice designing.

I hope it smells as good as it sounds! Agree with AnnieA on the flanker complaint – I had a happy accident though so sometimes it’s a good thing. Also agree with Omega that it’s a nice use of red.
