Tuesday scent of the day 3/1

Posted by Robin on 1 March 2022 158 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Goodbye February and hello March. It’s also Tuesday and Zero Discrimination Day. Birthdays: Frédéric Chopin, Lytton Strachey, Glenn Miller, Ralph Ellison, Robert Lowell, Harry Belafonte, Roger Daltrey. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in perfumer Anne Flipo's L’Artisan Jacinthe des Bois.

Reminder: on 3/4, to mark Women's History Month, wear a perfume by your favorite female perfumer. (In 2018 we marked the occasion by wearing a fragrance by perfumer Germaine Cellier or Josephine Catapano.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Aarikka PUPUNEN Tea Infuser ("Use this cute pink PUPUNEN ("bunny") tea infuser to brew your favorite loose leaf tea. Stylish yet practical addition for any tea aficionado. Makes a great gift too! Handmade in Finland") is $18 at Nordik.

Wow, what a diverse group of musical talent! I just put one of my favorites on Spotify, Glenn Miller Pennsylvania 6-5000. I like to cook with Glenn Miller on and I’m putting enchilada soup in the crockpot.
Sotd will be DSH American Beauty, after a shower. For now it’s the last bit of Aura from last night.

I listened to Glen Miller a lot when I was in high school. I liked the album my parents had so played it a fair amount. The band still tours (I think they have multiple bands touring), so we went to see them at our local music venue last December. It was great fun.

I have come to love Glenn Miller’s music. I remember mocking my mother in the ‘60’s for liking them, but I have since learned better. I was introduced to them in a swing dance class many years ago, which was so much fun!

That sounds like a blast! My mom adored Glenn Miller in the 40s and still loves him today.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Laundry and general housework day, and I’m overdressed in Molyneux Fête. I have a little left, less than an eighth of a one-ounce bottle, and I think it’s slowly evaporating, so I’m going to use it up before it uses itself up. It’s a sixties chypre very much in the style of Mitsouko, but less aggressive, with a pleasant powdery quality.

    SOTD!
    Aqualis Namaqualand.Perfumer Florian Gallo.
Very pretty citrus-floral with mandarin, tuberose, jasmin sambac.
I’m just struggling to find the connection between the names and the actual perfumes,if I think about Namaqualand I don’t think orchards and tropical florals.Still a well done fragrance, the first one I would consider getting a fb of from Aqualis.
Tomorrow the last from the discovery set,Canvas.Let’s see….
    Happy Tuesday!

I remembered my rabbits in the early morning hours before I was fully awake.
I’m in LL Rose 31 again, another sample thunked. Today is already my hump day because I have a 3 day work week this week.?
It was almost 40 when I left the house this morning. It felt great! Funny though, I was thinking how that feels warm to me as spring is approaching, but if I stepped out of the house in September to that temp it would feel freezing! It’s all about perspective.?

In BDK’s “over the limit” Wood Jasmin. Weirdly, today I am smelling leather–which is not among its published notes. Oh well. I should keep my day job!

    Repeating my offer:

Last week, I purchased a bottle of 30 year old L’air du Temps edt. It is a large bottle and I am no aficionado of this perfume. I want to offer up to ten, 5 ml decants to NST regulars based CONUS. The deal is you have to swap me back 5 mls (less is okay too) of a perfume you love (but not one of those, ‘it doesn’t work for me but others love it.’ For this swap, you have to love and wear the perfume you send me!) If you are interested, email me your name and address, and NST handle :-). I am: ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net

After showering, I’ll be wearing a Nicolai scent. Likely Kiss Me Intense. But…I may go for Cap Neroli, which I usually wear in summer. I need to mix it up a bit and see how it is in winter.

I bought the new shampoo and conditioner from The Ordinary. Will try them out today. Then I need to fill in the form and mail in registration form for the used car we bought. It’s our “island” car…just for local use.

I’ll give a report tomorrow. A first impression is that shampoo didn’t lather much, so I did a second wash and it lathered more. That’s not uncommon.

Hi guys. I was very touched by what you all wrote last time. Thank you, thank you! ❤ And I promised to keep you posted (when possible).

My family and I are well. We had our first air raid alert today, but nothing happened. The bomb shelter is kind of far, so we chose to stay in our apartment – the hall between the rooms seems like a good place to stay. We took down the mirror in the hall, covered one of the doors that has a glass section with a blanket. I read that some people cover their windows with books, so we tried that too. Anyway, my location seems to be more or less safe so far.

Read an article and realised for the first time how extraordinarily rich in natural resources Ukraine is: uranium, titanium, neon, iron ore. And an agricultural powerhouse: sunflower oil, barley, wheat, potatoes.
Always, world’s largest/ second largest producer of this and this and this…

I’m in Tauer’s Vanilla Flash today. Feeling more human after many hours of sleep Monday day and last night.

Had interesting dreams, both good and bad, but ended with me hugging a horse in the middle of some bucolic surroundings. I woke up all warm and fuzzy feeling only to find T-Rex looking at me expectantly. It was past time for potty and brekkie, I guess.

Sometimes I feel so used. ?

Hahaha! I was out camping one time, it was quite cold, and woke up to find my little dog inside my sleeping bag curled up in front of my stomach. Your story reminded me of that. 🙂

I remembered my rabbits — happy March! En Passant (Olivia Giacobetti) for the morning. So many choices for this CP — yesterday’s SOTD and SOTE were two of the Crazylibellule sticks (Chère Louise and Shanghaijava Encens — both Sonia Constant, I believe) that I hadn’t had out in forever.

Post-shower,we have a winner from Aqualis!
Canvas. The scent of my mother.I had a jolt to my heart when I smelled this tonight. It’s the scent of a woman getting ready, doing her make-up,setting hair with hairspray, lipstick, and a final spritz or 10 of perfume. This reminded me SO much of a perfume my mother religiously wore as an “everyday” fragrance,Lentheric Mustique(or Mystique, not quite sure).80′ s perfumery, and I was a little 9 year old boy again for a second or two.
Also, today marks 15 years that I am working at the Eye Hospital. How time flies.
    Feeling nostalgic,happy,sad,but content.
    XO.

Moonlight Patchouli ( Sonia Constant ). My perfume mission failed yesterday because all the samples have been stored away while omicron is in town ( drat). Was chatting to the mammogram technician and apparently around a third of women daily are cancelling their appointments so it was very quiet. Hope they reschedule. I was the only one getting blood tests which is also a first. Both services take place at the public hospital ( and are free) and everyone is screened ( but not tested unless admitted before entry) .Town was empty. I am reading Empire of Pain about the Sackler family. Ugh.

Sorry to hear your mission was a bust! You do smell lovely though. I read a blurb about that Sackler book, unfortunately that’s how things go nowadays, no sacrifice too great for the almighty dollar.

TDC Sens & Bois from my new (used) bottle. Perfumer is Celine Ellena. A great skin scent for work! Although i dont care if anyone can smell me at work, thankfully no perfume free workplaces in Germany! Spent a bit of the evening trying out a new pattern for sport leggins. Its not finished, but the fit looks okay.

I’m in TDC Oriental Lounge today, created by Celine Ellena. I love this – a lighter weight spicy amber, good for this time of year when it’s warming up.
The hubster had a successful shoulder replacement surgery last week and we’re slowly getting our bearings, creating a routine that works. Got to the dog park yesterday for the first time, which felt great! ? ❤️

It’s been raining off and on today, mild temperature.

I was in my one Arquiste fragrance, Infanta en Flor, orange blossom on a gentle leather, when I found this bottle I had been waiting for nine years to own this perfume, so it still feels special.

Tonight it’s vintage Météorites which I don’t wear often but I’m really enjoying it.

Trying out Zoologist scents. I ordered Moth, Bee, Nightingale and Chipmuck. Tried Moth last night, liked it but think this little decant will keep me satisfied with that one. The honey note is striking, and probably my favorite part of the fragrance. It feels like breathing art, not something for every day but when you are in the mood to ponder would be just perfect.

Now trying Nightingale and loving it. Already have the travel spray in a cart. i absolutely do not need more perfume. But 10 more ml never hurt anyone.

Still need to try Chipmunk and Bee. Want to rush and try them all at once, but the complexity of each means I am slowing down and giving each one its own stage.

SOTD: Ostara from my little sample that miraculously does not evaporate.
Haven’t been here in a long time. I miss my eldest (terribly) and it doesn’t help that I can hear that he also misses home. He still has some classes online, but most are in person now.
Work has been stressful. I’ve worked at the same practice for 11 years now. After such a long time, you start thinking that you have developed a really thick skin and that nothing can upset you. Sadly, I’ve recently been wishing that I could win the lottery (maybe I should at least buy a ticket or two!) and retire. A pipe dream with a kid at university and one still at school.
I hope Missionista is doing OK. She inspired me with her word for the year : “nourish” .

SOTD is Cloon Keen Sybarite. I like it a lot, it is quite different from anything I own, and has decent lasting power (but very light sillage, at least on me). Not sure if it’s “the one” for me, though.

I snuggle under my blankets pretty much all year long. It makes me wonder if I am mildly autistic as I read somewhere, heh, actually I read a book a while back written by Temple Grandin, who herself is autistic and has accomplished much. Anyway, she’s also an animal scientist and she observed that cattle going through a chute became calm at the end of the chute. She decided to simulate a chute and found that staying inside helps keep her calm and grounded.
