Yeah, it’s still February, and my window contractors are still here. Will they finish today? Who knows? I should have figured. My rule of thumb is that contractor projects take twice as long as originally estimated, and cost 50% more than originally estimated. This one was supposed to be 4 days and today is day 7….
SOTD is Chanel Gabrielle Essence. It’ll only last a few hours, but it’s nice while it lasts.

Wearing Jo Malone Red Roses and drinking my second cup of coffee with a splash of rose water.
I am at home today. My doggie Yei is very sick again with a severe pancreatitis, which is also affecting his liver badly this time. He is fasting and under treatment since last night, but his vet has recommended to have him hospitalized if he does show any improvement in the next 48 hours. Any healing vibes and prayers are really appreciated.
Finally the sun is out after many cold, gray, rainy days. We will be in the upper 40’s this week. I want to believe that spring is around the corner!

I’m wearing Casmir from a decant sent by a lovely NSTer, and enjoying the heck out of it.
Just finished a steaming bowl of oatmeal with wheat germ, oat milk, cinnamon, banana and brown sugar. I’m full and toasty warm on a very cool morning. Sipping scalding coffee to top everything off. Is there any better way to spend the morning except at leisure, eating brekkie, sipping coffee, and reading NST? Nope, there is not!
Feeling alive and optimistic again after some long restorative sleep yesterday and last night. I have to take the van in and have the front end and brakes looked at today because last time I went down steep grade at speed, there was some unexpected movement when applying the brakes…?
Have to go down to Phoenix tomorrow and would like to avoid additional gray hairs…

And I’ve already been thrifting this morning. Goodwill has a 50%off senior day once a month and I have a friend who’s like an adopted daughter, we go together so she can use my discount. Didn’t find tons of great stuff but just that I can walk around the store without a cane is pretty cool.

Wearing No.19 edt from a fairly recent bottle (5years, maybe?) so unlike yesterday’s edp (12 years old and heavily oxidised and it took me right back to one of my worst working environments where I tried to face each day with Chanel make up and No.19) I feel good, I smell good, and my nose hasn’t tripped me up and sent me somewhere I never want to re-visit, lol! That edp is still good enough and I will drain it in the near future but the dregs are best sprayed lightly ?

Just one perfume today since it has enough presence that it seemed pointless to put another one on. I’m in Olympic Orchids California Chocolate to match my orange chocolate shower gel from Yves Rocher. I enjoy the scent of the shower gel, but the performance leaves much to be desired. I have to use a lot of it to get it to suds up decently. It’s a much thinner gel than my Molton Brown one for instance, but I suppose you get what you pay for. It just means I’ll use it up faster so no big deal.
I agree with you about the poor performance not only of the YR Orange Chocolate shower gel but all their shower gels I purchased in the recent sale. I am glad I got them when they were 70% off. I don’t see myself buying more from them in the future.
Yeah, same here. I told myself the same thing after my last YR order a few years ago, so we’ll see how long my memory and resolve last this time.

Yeah, the YR chocolate orange shower gel has that slightly jellyish texture that cheap liquid soaps have, which means you have to use a lot of it: I think it’s largely filler or something. It’s a real shame, because it smells so nice. In 2010 they did that same gel and it was fantastic, a much better quality, and also a matching EDT, which I am so glad I bought.
I also bought the candle, so I’m curious how that’ll perform.

Luden’s Cherry cough drops from the 1960’s were so comforting – I would love to have that taste/smell connection. Clinique Aromatics Black Cherry is in that wheelhouse.

Record time cleaning pee!
I have a funny dog poop story, to hopefully cheer you up. When my Magi-girl was a puppy, I had to crate her when I went to teach a night class, and she just hated it. She hated being alone at any point, and I was trying out the crate approach, with the hopes that it would help. I came home one night, and was blasted with the smell of poop when I opened the door. Never a good sign. So, I goes to check on the pup, and she has pooped in the crate, and spent a couple of hours smearing said substance all over the inside in her agitation, and of course, covering her own frenzied little self with it. I should have stepped back and thought for a moment about how to proceed, but she was so distressed that I immediately opened the crate to take her out. She bolted past me, and proceeded to run all over the house, from room to room, spreading poop over every surface she came into contact with.
So, picture this cute, agitated little white labradoodle puppy (cuteness somewhat decreased due to a coating of ick), running all over my house while I scramble after her, trying to catch her and stop the insane smearing of poop over the carpet and furniture. It was like a cartoon character chase scene.
Cleaning took FOREVER. I eventually just hired a dog-sitter to keep her company while I taught class….

We’ve got our living room baby gated off because my older kitty’s dementia means she often doesn’t find the litter box in time and the rug pattern in that room make it very easy to overlook a mess and end up stepping in it. The bissel has saved us on numerous occasions.

I have been reading Katherine Mansfield’s letters and was thinking of letters in the sense of a duet. Two voices: one the writer, the other the receiver ( and how frequently letters communicate between people in opposite hemispheres, seasons, cultures, life stages etc.) But anyway. Katherine Mansfield and Virginia Woolf wrote to each other and it seems they shared a longing to talk about writing. In life they both had health problems, which sometimes prevented their meeting.
This is from a 1919 April letter, Mansfield to Woolf and I’m wearing Fille de Berlin for the rose and Woodcut for the sawing wood.
“But I positively must see you soon. I want to talk over so much—Your room with the too deep windows—I should love to be there now. Last time the rambler roses were nearly over and there was a sound of someone sawing wood.”

Doubling up on SLs today with Rose de Nuit and Sa Majeste la Rose. These are Perfume Court samples from last year, so I doubt they are vintage. With RdN I get a velvety rose, apricot, musk, and amber keeping everything round and smooth and grounded. I get hint of beeswax, but no honey. I was expecting this to be more aggressively dark and animalistic. Maybe the heavy does of castoreum in the PdN I worre yesterday makes this seem less animalistic by comparison. About an hour in, jasmine tea emerged.
For SMLR I get a bright fresh bouquet of roses, somewhere between green and tart. I get a some tart quince in this. The wood is there in background, but this definitely a Floral, not a Woody Floral to my nose. No honey though. Where is the honey today?
Today’s tea is Clippership Ski Lodge again. I like the tea (black tea, chunks of orange, cinnamon, star anise, and cocoa nibs) but name is all wrong for me. This should be called Noel or Chocolate Pomander, or something like that. Ski Lodge makes me think of lapsang and evergreen.

I’m in dual peppery scents, with Perles de Lalique on one arm (thanks for the reminder, tannina), and CdG Blackpepper on the other. I like the Lalique better. It’s got rose notes to balance the pepper, while the CdG is a little too cologne-like for my taste.
It seriously feels like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff.
Another duet day, in Heeley Menthe Friache and Capsule’s Covey -this seems to be a CP I can get behind with no effort. Covey is brighter with some lime, and the Heeley is soft and pretty.
Thanks to NST, my perfume boundaries have been greatly expanded, because back in the day I would have bet good money that I would never, ever wear a mint-based perfume.
I like Fiele Mentha though it has low projection. It’s more spearmint than peppermint, with a softness (floral) to it
Many happy returns to NST, and I wore Réminiscence Tonka during the day and tonight it’s Courrèges Empreinte.

Sharing some good news today! The crazy squirrel did NOT get into the exhaust vent for the kitchen hood after all! The little furry bugger tried its best to do so, though. The hole in the mesh apparently wasn’t big enough to squeeze into, so it tried chewing thru some of the trim around the vent opening. Denied!!
Mr. Jalapeno put up a MUCH studier vent cover made of steel on his lunch break. He’s fairly confident that squirrel can’t chew thru that.
SOTD = rolling right along in Celestial Patchouli again.

Nope, the squirrel never even got past the wire mesh. No back tracking on its part at all.
I guess that the hole it made in the mesh wasn’t big enough yet. Very happy that was the case!

I cheat and use a mix, then substitute Chambord for water. Ghiradelli makes some rather good ones, IMO.

I’m in roses today. I wore La Fille de Berlin for most of the day, and now that it’s faded, I’m sampling a little dab of Rose Prick.
It’s been really warm here in Northern CA, reached the mid-70s today. I’m trying my best to just enjoy the nice weather, but can’t help feeling like this is so wrong. We need some rain too!

My duet for the day was Jicky EDT and Atelier Cologne’ Iris Rebelle. They worked pretty well together but the Jicky overpowered the Iris Rebelle, and has outlasted it by a couple of hours. But I’ve smelled good all day!

Super late! I am continuing my week of perfume I love but don’t wear often. Sotd is MJ Decadence. I bought this on first sniff when it came out and have used half the bottle but it’s probably been a year since I last wore it. Some people say it smells like pickles but for me it’s mostly saffron.

I’m wearing 2 mimosa frags, courtesy of a most lovely NST’er. Korres on the left and Acca Kappa on the right. The Korres stayed all day with me, and its still hanging in there.

Tuesday was Dzing!, from a sample I’ll finish soon. Then late in the day, Cloon Keen Castaña on one arm, and Roisín Dubh on the other (I live VERY close to their store and so am taking advantage of that by sampling multiple times before I make a buying decision).
