Issue 12 of Nez is out: "The Twelfth Issue explores links between scent and design. Nez is an invitation to explore the world through our olfactory sensations, adopting a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses art, literature, photography, science, history, gastronomy and, of course, perfumery, providing its readers with a better understanding of the essential role the sense of smell plays in our lives." 160 pages, $29 at Luckyscent.

Always a pleasure to read. Under the 1+1 concept, they also started to release a fragrance in 15ml bottles with every edition. Le Lac for this one, Kraft Gommé for the previous one and Folia and Hongkong Oolong before that. I was wondering if somebody already tried one of these, and if yes, what were your thoughts?

I have one that you didn’t mention: Ambre a Levres. And I love it (haven’t tried the others). This one is the perfect inside-of-a-handbag-with-old-school-lipstick, etc kind of fragrance if you know what I mean.

I smelled one of them and have already forgotten which — I think it was the Hong Kong Oolong? And I have some of the Ambre waiting to be smelled.

I own them all with the exception of Ambre.
Hongkong Oolong is a masterpiece by Maurice Roucel, which easily could be lined up at Shalini. That crispy light floral green texture slowly morphs into a slightly leathery dry down.
From there on they got more and more artsy: Folia is the rainy summer garden, from wet green to moist soil, still very wearable.
Kraft Gommé is a difficult scent of waxy wood glue.
Le Lac, inspired by a modern interpretation of Swan Lake, is more concept than perfume. Very good at that, but hardly wearable for me: Those swans are drown in tar, beyond a industrial skyline of flirring ozone and stingy aldehydes, and then there is that fresh natural accord of mint and eucalyptus. Strange, yet interesting.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, very interesting. Kraft Gommé was the one I was particularly interested in, but hesitating to go blind. DuftHochZwei’s feedback on it makes up for further hesitation since the description sounds both interesting / appealing and a bit scary ? But nice that they have guts to release difficult scents!
