Cartier Declaration Haute Fraicheur ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 27 December 2021 6 Comments

Cartier has launched Déclaration Haute Fraîcheur, a new fragrance for men. Déclaration Haute Fraîcheur is a flanker to 1998′s Déclaration.

Cartier Déclaration Haute Fraîcheur offers a unique new foliage accord, combining a vegetal sensation and citrus tree leaves with earthy notes of woody green in a refreshing mist.

[Perfumer] Mathilde Laurent’s creation of this new Déclaration was inspired by nature’s simplicity and freshness. Cartier Déclaration collection is a tribute to men in love.

The bottle has a contemporary and elegant silhouette, wearing a heart, the emblem of love, and a unique Cartier signature built around transparency.

Additional notes for the woody citrus include cardamom and cedar.

Cartier Déclaration Haute Fraîcheur is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette, and can be found now at Hudson's Bay in Canada.

[Dons curmudgeon cap, takes a deep breath.]

The original Declaration always struck me as one of those perfectly-formed, elemental things that don’t need tweaking, so I’ve had spotty luck with the flankers over the years. It’s like when a chef tries to “deconstruct” a classic dish, or add incongruous ingredients for the sake of flair. Just give me the Caesar salad that was perfected 50 years ago, thanks. Even the first flanker by Jean-Claude Ellena himself, Declaration Essence, feels nice but basically superfluous when compared to the brilliant original. Laurent is unquestionably a top-tier perfumer, but her Declaration flankers haven’t moved me, and the recent Parfum version left me practically miffed. Why turn the clever, crisp, shimmering, buoyant Declaration into yet another sweet woody simpleton?

My hopes aren’t high for this one, and I kind of wish Cartier would just leave the whole line alone. (Clearly I don’t have a business brain.)

I can’t really wear Declaration but all the same, agree with all of that.

On the other hand, if it helps with name recognition for the original, it’s not so bad!

I agree up to a point. I consider Declaration a masterpiece and it is one of my all-time favorites. However, it is so complex that it offers plenty of possibilities to play with. And the idea of playing with the bottle colors is nice, especially since it is a beautiful bottle. I think Cartier’s approach is perfect and offers the best to both worlds. Who only wants the original, is free to buy and enjoy the original. And who wants to try various approaches that have their own character is spoiled with options. I find the Parfum to be a great fragrance, and I hope I’ll enjoy this one too :).

I’m new here. How can I edit my comment? Having both also and too in the last sentence is obviously a mistake 🙂

I’m afraid you cannot edit a comment. I can, so I’ve fixed it for you, but in general people just post a correction as a follow-up and let it go…we expect mistakes 🙂
