Thursday scent of the day 11/18

Posted by Robin on 18 November 2021 212 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Philosophy Day! Birthdays today: Johnny Mercer, Alan Shephard, Margaret Atwood, Wilma Mankiller. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Tauer Perfumes Phi — Une Rose de Kandahar.

Reminder: Early on 11/19 (some of us will be sleeping) we'll see a Partial Lunar Eclipse of the Micro Beaver Moon. Wear what you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

A carrot muffin sounds delicious (I have probably not had a muffin in 10 years, so maybe any muffin sounds delicious.)

I’m also in a Tauer – Au Coeur du Désert, from a sample. This one is too sweetly amber for me right now.

Scent: Perris Monte Carlo Mandarino Di Sicilia. Very nice mandarine top note, I missed the mid note florals, and then cedar. Always hunting for a good orange/mandarine, but am ambivalent about the cedar. I’ve been on a bright citrus and orange blossom bender lately.

Tea: Ahman Tea Blackcurrant Infusion, which is a nice fruity herbal situation.

Might test: Narciso For Her EDT. I bought the rollerball when it first came out (2003), and either my nose is wonky, or my rather old rollerball has had it’s day. That’s fair, and no regrets about what didn’t get used – I wore this as frequently as I wanted to.

    Have a great day!

If you want something cheap I think the Body Shop Satsuma range ( body spray) is a good mandarin option. It’s basically just the one note ( mandarin) with no complexity or development but it’s nice and wearable and true to the fruit.

I like the orange note in Atelier Cologne’s Orange Sanguine. Some people are bothered by the base notes in it, though. YMMV.

For once, not in a Tauer (though you smell lovely, Robin!). SOTD is Ouarzazate, from a sample. I quite like it, but I already have two of the incense FBs, so…probably not high on the FB list.

Long week; I had hoped we were basically done with the high school applications for Ockeghem Tween for a little while, but then we got her test results back, and there was much drama. Let’s say I don’t believe they are representative of her abilities (and at any rate, really can’t be submitted to the school). So, another month of intensive test prep and complaint, on top of everything else. It always seems like everyone else has kids who know what they want, have no problem choosing schools and doing what they need to do to get there. Not so with Ockeghem Tween. I think she just expects it to fall into her lap…which just isn’t going to happen any longer. Sigh.

Oh, and did I mention that the day we got the test results, I also had to call because we’d heard nothing about her COVID test, and it turns out the vial leaked and they can’t give us a result. She’s not even coughing anymore — that was only a couple of days — but I guess we have to go back and retake the test, and I don’t know where we’re going to find that hour of our lives. One of those weeks.

Are you required to produce a test result for her to return to school? If not I’d skip it. Sorry about the testing/school drama, that’s a pain.

No, we haven’t told the school, since it was clear she just had a cold but we had the test out of an abundance of caution. She hasn’t been coughing at school. Clearly having her retested is not high on the province’s agenda, since they couldn’t be bothered to contact us to tell us the sample couldn’t be tested. So we’re not rushing out…

Morning all, my SOTD is Serge Lutens’ Un Bois Vanille, anise, coconut, and caramelized vanilla pudding – I added a spritz of L’ Artisan’s Patchouli patch to break it up. I am definitely wafting a huge cloud!

Working on student payroll and will head to the gym momentarily. I overslept, intended to wake up at 6 but I do love that snooze button! Here’s to cup #2 of espresso…. 😀
I found a tasty treat. Halo Top vanilla ice cream with diet root beer, a float that’s not too calorie-laden and won’t blow my calorie intake for the day.

I am with you on the taste.. For some reason, the mix of Halo Top’s ice cream with Root Beer, tones down the synthetic taste.

One spritz of Cuir Beluga today, with gratitude for the recent split meet. I’m heading in to my actual *office* today, to download a bunch of GPS data, and it’s an excuse to wear a mini skirt and tights and my vintage suede boots. I love my working from home/working in the woods setup, but I miss some of my wardrobe! Covid booster was rescheduled for today, so fingers crossed that they don’t re-reschedule and that I don’t get walloped by side effects.

It’s the shoes I miss the most — I don’t wear shoes in the house, and I can’t wear my Sezane pumps and 40s alligator heels for the mile-along-uneven-sidewalkless-pavement walk to school with my son, and outdoor work involves hiking shoes or fire boots, and date nights are few and far between, so most of my shoe wardrobe is languishing.

We’re twins (we need to count 24 hours). In any case, why a helmet and not a face shield?

True story…one of my nieces had to wear a helmet to school when she was younger and it had to be customized to be soft where the helmet meets her skull. Anyway, younger kids cannot be trusted to know the difference between touch her very lightly vs. touch her enough to cause a medical emergency. Her blood barely clotted and still doesn’t but she self-administers prophylactics on a very regular basis.

        Twins?
That must have been a challenge as a kid. And your whole family.

One type of seizure I get is a ‘drop’ seizure. I just fall, it is usually forward, but I can bounce off of things like the stairs. The other thing, I am very violent and the back of my head whacks against whatever I hit. A faceshield actually scares me. If I land or wake up face down, my breathing is like I’ve run a marathon.
Not everyone is as bad as me. And I’ve been good for a while. My med change is going to bring them back.

Good luck with your search. I don’t know about where you live but sometimes stores that sell at home mobility equipment ( like shower stools, walking sticks, non-slip stuff, sock grabbers, personal hygiene clothing etc etc) also stock medical helmets. Otherwise maybe the local epilepsy centre can put you in touch with a good supply store?

Get it. It might be different but who knows, it might be even better! (Let the perfume be the change you want to see etc.). Or you might have changed too and the new formulation might suit that. Or the weather might have changed and the new formulation might work well in a variable November. Or perhaps the new formulation will be a good bike ride scent? Or a good eclipse perfume? Can’t go wrong really ….maybe.

In Adam Levine…saw the bottle and remembered it as good for chilly weather. And…it’s kind of a CP compliant thing…if you follow the roundabout thinking that is my crazy brain. The name Maroon 5 was tickling something in my brain that made me think of space. So, off I went to IMDB and found the movie Marooned, with Gregory Peck from the 1960s. About astronauts marooned in space. Voila. Not exactly the moon, but spacey….

Getting my hair cut later today. Nothing new or drastic, but I need it a bit shorter than she did last time. My hair bugs me when it gets too far below my chin. Right now, it’s kissing my shoulders, which is just too irritating. Used to bug my mom…if I have any length to my hair I tend to run my hands through it more than I should. I basically need to be unaware that I have hair.

Getting a kick out of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha on Netflix, my latest K-drama. Trying to stay with just one episode a night. Just as in Crash Landing On You, the peripheral characters are a hoot.

How funny — I used to love having my hair just long enough to graze my shoulders. These days too many misbehaving grey hairs make that length very awkward. Does a pixie cut work for your face shape? That would definitely feel like (and be, probably) a lot less hair … but it might not keep your hands from running through it. ?

I’ve had so many different hair styles over the years. My attitude has always been…it grows back, so play with it. But…I’m feeling a bit more comfortable with some length because of my weight. If I lose my COVID weight (especially in my face) I may go shorter. I cut my hair short when I was in my 20s, and have never had it very long since then. I dislike spending any time on my hair.

I’m also into K-dramas right now. I have noticed an ongoing evolution to less and less grittiness in my tv/film viewing, and many K-dramas are fluffy in a way that I’m genuinely appreciating. A friend of mine, who loves all things gritty and troubling, often despairs of my current entertainment choices. I feel like I just don’t have the emotional wherewithal to deal with the irrationality of the world I live in while simultaneously watching an equally if not more insane world as entertainment.

I just finished Vincenzo, which was quite enjoyable, with many of those amusing peripheral characters (although the series is not quite as fluffy as CLoY) you mentioned.

I have two girlfriends coming to visit me this weekend. I’m excited to see them for a few days then we also have company coming Wednesday for Thanksgiving weekend. Fun times but will be busy.

Wearing three perfumes at the moment: Heure Exquise, Ella and Music for a While. It’s not a great combo. I put on HE this morning, it agrees so well with autumnal weather. The other two are just my 2 latest purchases. I’ve been coveting Ella for a while and been intrigued with MfaW even longer, and was able to obtain Ella at a discount and the other with a birthday voucher. Only got the small travelspray of the Malle as I admire it more than I love it, but it is such an interesting lavender that I did feel the need to own a little more than just a sample. Had a nice day at the office, I seem to be rapidly becoming the department clown, a role I am enjoying a lot.

    Hello all!

In a combo of Cloud body spray and Gucci Memoire. Really nice, actually!

Busy week with doing the hardware store at night and working the regular job during the day- and somehow we are even more weirdly busier during the day, even though we will be laid off. I have mild leg and back soreness from standing on concrete floors- but I have really good men’s running shoes with arch support and treading ( Adidas Boost if you are interested) and they are so helpful.

Two 2nd interviews today – WOO HOO!

And my hard cider project is a WIN. Secondary fermentation in the bottles did well; the finished product is semi dry, with an apple/floral nose and a gentle effervescence. So some bottles will be making it to Thanksgiving with friends!

Blergh. Blergh day for me. Cheered myself up somewhat with a decant selection I picked from a box without looking, which turned out to be Dior’s Milly la Foret. To my nose, it smells like a slightly more refined and accessible Mure et Musc. Proof that my nose is useless. When I looked up the notes I found nary a berry in sight. I guess I should stick to my day job.

I was in a dark sky area last week and saw the Milky Way for the first time in decades as well as Venus shining over and on the Gulf of Mexico. Heartbreakingly beautiful weather today for me. Not a cloud to be seen in a brilliant blue sky, with gentle warm breezes and temps around 70 degrees F. No humidity, either. It seems like a wonderful daydream.

So, of course, I went grocery shopping. ? Honestly, though, I would much rather do that task in nice weather instead of dodging rain or snow.

Pretty sure that my area won’t see the eclipse.

SOTD = ELdO’s Rien, from the sample stash. Still liking this one!

The weather was gorgeous. And if you enjoyed the grocery shopping without getting sopping wet, not such a bad day. Especially if you snuck in some snacks.

Heh, of course there were a couple of snacks on the list! But unfortunately, it looks like I might have forgotten to put a couple things ON my list to begin with. Rats!

It was indeed beautiful today: we hit 72F here with no humidity!

I also prefer doing errands when I also don’t have to deal with the nasty elements.

I just spoke with some friends who are in Montreal. I had some Zoologist samples sent to them (well, taken by a friend from Toronto) and they were all excited about trying them (including one from Barcelona). So that was kind of a pick-me-up for me! (just from being mostly shut in at home).
My SOTD is MFK Baccarat Rouge 540. It’s among the nice sample set of best-sellers I ordered from Twisted Lily. I like it but don’t love it. I’ll give Interlude Black Iris another try later, but my first try was not a success. I’ve heard the word “jammy” used before as a criticism without quite getting it, but now I know when to use it and why. Ew!

And I always viewed “jammy” as something chewy good!

Wearing Smell Bent Sunshine, which is creamsicle at first then mostly creamy sandalwood. Lovely and easy to wear.

No SOTD for me today; I spent most of the day in bed, asleep and shivering. Got my booster shot late yesterday, so this was expected (I had a similar reaction to my 2nd shot). I’m so glad to have gotten it before the holidays really get under way! I’ll see if I feel more inspired tomorrow for the CP.

Oh, I hope you’re feeling better. I’m very empathic because I had the shivers too and it was no fun but like you, I’m grateful to be boosted 🙂

Chiming in late after a busy day at work AND a migraine. I wore Coromandel today because it was chilly in the morning, and I’m glad it didn’t really bother me during my migraine.

I won’t be able to stay up late enough to watch the eclipse tonight, but I plan on popping out to look at the moon later.

SOTD = Parle Moi de Parfum Milky Musk

Thanks to springpansy’s split! It is a lovely woody musk. I smelled it better when I was outside (? 2 mile walk) and I actual smelled cedar and not sandalwood. Regardless, I love the perfume.

I went to the dentist this morning to have my permanent crown put on. It turns out my tooth wouldn’t hold it, so I ended up with an unexpected root canal and post. I have been out of commission most of the day. My face is very swollen. I wore Dior Addict, just one spray.
