Wednesday scent of the day 11/17

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2021 123 Comments

It's Hump Day and International Students’ Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale.

Reminder: Early on 11/19 (some of us will be sleeping) we'll see a Partial Lunar Eclipse of the Micro Beaver Moon. Wear what you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Cool photo! Today is shower day which is kind of an ordeal but so worth it. Afterwards I want to put on Addict, I’m really craving it. Happy hump day everyone ?

Oh, good luck — are you in a proper cast, or do you just have to keep the sutures dry, or ? Either way I’m sure it is an ordeal.

Yoga then work. I wore Milky Musk to sleep — that and an extra blanket kept me warm.

Post shower will be Sushi Imperiale by Bois 1920. I never hear about that one anymore but we used to talk about it a lot on the MakeupAlley frag board.

I tried Sushi Imperiale a while back when I was at MinNY. I haven’t been back, nor do I know if they are still in business. I was put off when they started the vetted members only perfumes. Guess what? I vetted THEM out of my life.

After I saw this comment, I found my sample of Sushi Imperiale and out some on my hand. I definitely didn’t remember what it smells like, and now it reminds me of things like Ineke Field Notes in Paris and Cartier L’Envol, both of which my partner wears. So I may pass along the sample to him.

I do still love Sutra Ylang from Bois 1920.

You smell very nice! Bengale Rouge always gives me an impression of physical warmth, all that myrrh.

Cavatina is a really nice lily centric white floral. I’m not into lily notes so I didn’t get this one but I still appreciate it. If you like lily, I’d definitely give it a try!

My favourites from Dusita are her other florals (la douceur de siam, splendiris and Anamcara).

One year they refinished the decks around the visitors’ center at the National Park where I worked, and the smell was hauntingly gaggy. I did eventually get it out of my nose, but it will never leave my brain.

Just sporting the rich-girl-bergamot scent of a spritz of Oribe hair spray to keep the fuzzies in check — I have a dermatologist appointment in a couple of hours, followed by my Covid booster appointment, so I have an excuse other than “I don’t want to feel feelings” to avoid perfume today.

Good luck on the booster! My sister and BIL had theirs at Costco yesterday (J&J) and their only side effect, besides an excuse to eat out, was a sore arm.

I found my sample of TF Lavender Extreme this morning, so that’s my SOTD. I believe I acquired it in the late spring or summer, and I like it much better in this cooler weather.

My son woke up possibly feverish this morning, so my husband kept him home, and now we’re playing the “are you really sick?” wait-and-see game to determine what to do next. I long for the days when what seems to be a cold can be reasonably assumed to be a cold!

SOTD is Dior’s Addict, from an old bottle. This is all basenotes on me, vanilla, Tonka, and Sandalwood with a tiny bit of orange blossom. I adore it but am careful not to over spray.

Robin, that photo is so beautiful and relaxing!

Busy day, lots of meetings and paperwork, and a Zoom meeting later with my OB/Gyn at UCSF. Physical went well, and I’ve lost a few more pounds (yay!). Now if I can keep it going, 10 more pounds would be ideal. Shoes on and I’m out the door for a three-mile walk!
    *Meep meep*!

LOVE the outfit. Although I am probably classified as sporty as far as “fashion style” (I’m usually in leggings and a hoodie), I love pink in all its many iterations. Do you live in the south? Everyone in Seattle is in black and grey for the winter. Which is really kind of crazy because it’s already dark and grey–we should wear lots more color!!

Cloudy today and fallen leaves everywhere, but quite warm. SotD Aromatics Black Cherry. I like its cozy, smoky cherry but I only like it, not love. Yesterday, I wore Sensuous Noir, and liked it better than BC, and also better than I remembered. Both of these are Ebay unicorn wannabes, but I think it’s because they were not widely promoted nor offered very long. Happy Wednesday all!

This morning it was Chanel 22 EDP. This was from a bottle I got from eBay (with a lot of trepidation) but which turned out to be a success. Fragrantica doesn’t list the incense for the EDP but I get a lot of it in the dry down.

After 10 hours of spraying it (it’s 7 pm here) I was getting these whiffs of a great incense and kept thinking – where is it coming from?? Then I realised it was myself. It’s the last note (and a lovely one) when the rest of the perfume has died out.

It’s a old Mercedes with a ton of miles on it, but cheap. Sporty rather than big. It would be our local car for tooling around the northern part of the county. We need a 2nd car and with the new/used (no availability/big prices) car situation going on, it suits our needs for now.

SOTD is Ex Nihilo Lust in Paradise from a sample. It reminds me a bit of Chloe, but it fixes all of things I don’t like about Chloe. I see a lot of people describe it as a powdery Delina. I don’t get a ton of powder from this on its own, so I’d be curious to try them side by side to see if the powder note increases by comparison. I get musk, litchi, and peony I want to try this again in Spring weather.

I’m in ELDO Archives 69. It’s a nicely spiced amber, but the camphor note really sticks around. It’s okay, but I’m not really a fan. However, I’ve finished trying all of my ELDO samples, so the spot they inhabited in the lipstick tray is empty. Also in a spritz of You or Someone Like You, from a kind NSTer.

Julia Child’s potato leek soup is burbling on the stove. After I buzz it with the immersion blender, I might add some cubed ham. It’s hot today, a high of 85, but tomorrow’s forecast is a high of 67, so perfect soup weather! ?

I love the sound of that soup! Yum! I’m ready for it to cool off a bit now. Just got a sample of that ELDO. (See below)

Amber + camphor sounds pretty good to me. Had I known that’s what Archives 69 smelled like, I would have included it in a recent sample order from ELdO. Worth noting for later.

I’m wearing Amouage Love Tuberose, sprayed lightly. It’s at the stage of being very creamy and vanillic.

UPS just delivered the Twisted Lily bestseller sample box. I’m excited to try them! I’m looking forward to Amouage Interlude Dark.

Amouage and Iris in the same sentence! That sounds very intriguing! As Robin says- a lovely iris is always a good thing 🙂

That picture reminds me of my adventures in stargazing, both in college and beyond. I’ve seen some pretty awesome stuff by looking up into the sky at night.

SOTD = Santal Pao Rosa, from the Sample Stash and madtowngirl. It’s a pretty, if quiet sandalwood/rose perfume on me. ???

Santal Pao Rosa is a nice one! I gazed up today too and was shocked at how full the moon was considering it was a skinny one just a few days ago.

I was able to see airplane contrails last night in addition to the planets I was looking for, thanks to that almost-full moon!

Liz Earle Essence botanical No 9 today and there is quite a dent in the bottle, I must really like this fruity chypre with its natural aroma and tonight it’s Shalimar Parfum de Toilette.

I’m at work and feeling run down. It’s been raining all day.
My sotd is Angel Rose version. It’s amazing how much better it is than the current version of Angel.

I don’t know if I’ve smelled that. When I think of Angel, I thought of the time I accidentally tasted it because someone’s sillage was over the top. Hope you’re feeling better!

    SOTD = Jorum Studio Pentimento

Nice! Semi-sweet, milky, nutty, vanillic, boozy, tonka-ish! ?

I was able to eke out another 1.75 mile walk today (heh, better than nothing). For a while (since last year), I was wondering if animals know when time changes. I suspected not but wanted to prove it. I did today – there’s a house with a cat who likes to watch the street from a picture window with the curtains closed but he always managed to wiggle his way under to be next to the window. Prior to the time change, I sometimes walked around there between 5:30 and 6:30pm and saw him there. Today, I was there around 4:45pm and he was by the window. I should check to see if he is there at 5:30 but it would be too dark now. The weird stuff my brain thinks about … ??‍♀️

I have first hand evidence that cats don’t care about the time change. My furballs still want to be fed at the same time according to the sun. So now they are kvetching about food an hour earlier than my schedule right now.

I can independently verify this. My cats hate the time changes more than any person I know does.
