Tuesday scent of the day 9/28

Posted by Robin on 28 September 2021 184 Comments

It’s Tuesday, plus the International Day for the Universal Access to Information, World Rabies Day and Freedom from Hunger Day.  What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day two in Diptyque Eau des Sens. Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese breakfast brewed with cocoa husks.

Reminder: 10/1 is International Coffee Day...wear a fragrance with a coffee note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning Y’all,
Was projecting a bit much in Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu, so I gently washed my wrists to tone it down some…..LOL It smells sooooo good on a cool day! My nose has never been able to adequately describe what I’m smelling when I wear it? 🙂

Wearing Bond No.9 New Haarlem for the cp. I had not worn it in a very long time and I had forgotten how much I love it!

On my third cup of coffee already to face a day of crazy meetings at work.

    Happy Tuesday! ☕

New Haarlem is such a great coffee scent! After finishing my sample, it’s the closest I ever came to buying a bottle of Bond No. 9 (but the price always deterred me, now more so than ever).

It is indeed a great coffee scent, perhaps my favorites from Bond. I bought my full bottle many years ago and not planning on another full bottle anymore from the line. I can’t justify such a pricey expense!

You smell wonderful, NH is my favorite coffee perfume and I’m saving my few drops for Friday. I don’t even know where to purchase it these days, I know on eBay it’s terribly pricey. Maybe a split meet possibility?

I’m wearing Silences today, after yesterday’s Voleur de Roses patchouli bomb. One of my staff teased me all day yesterday for wearing such a patchouli forward scent. The thing that I love about Silences is the stark greenness of it. It’s the antithesis of patchouli.

SOTD: Rose 31 body lotion and perfume

On 2nd cup of coffee! Although truth be told I do half cups at a time because I like it fresh and hot so maybe one full cup at this point 😉

Found a new fall scent I’m enjoying — Yog Nog Lush shower gel.
Anyone try it? Perfect caramel scent, not too sweet but just right for the shower. It’s a holiday item so it’s only out between now and end of year.

I do this with tea..I find I really don’t like cold tea (and admit I pour my soy creamer with a heavy hand which brings down the temperature even more) So I do half cups at a time. My father in law when he makes his chai, he pours it right away into a thermos to keep it hot instead of leaving it in a pot. Everyone has something!

I drink my hot tea from a double walled cup with a top to help it stay hot. Some of the brands will keep hot tea hot for up to 6 hours.

Suddenly seized with the need to wear vintage Hermès Amazone, the EDP this time (somehow over the years I acquired the EDT, EDP, and parfum, without even meaning to). Even though it’s still being manufactured, I feel as if Amazone is a lost classic: it’s joyous, one of the high-water marks of seventies perfumery.

Hello! Waring Desert Eden by Estée Lauder today from the fancy (expensive) new range-I thought it seemed similar to Kelly Calèche but trying them side by side the KC seems sharper and drier than the DE. Desert Eden is very rounded, soft and smells reassuring in a rose/sandalwood way-it has presence but won’t startle anyone. I am sure it smells like a dozen other perfumes if only I could pin it down. Oh well. My favourite from the new range (I’ve only tried 3 so far I should say) is Paradise Moon – I get a delicious beeswax note, not overly sweet but again, very smooth and reassuring. It all seems very well done but nothing very distinctive so far. And sheesh, Estée Lauder has better and much cheaper than this!

Am feeling blasée too, at the influx of “smelled this before, and it was cheaper” scents. Can they not be just a teensy bit original for the high prices? Do I keep going on about price and value? Sadly yes

Rose and sandalwood smell wonderful, but I agree with AnnieA, the influx of “been there, done that” scents are leaving me a little ‘blah’ about the whole thing.
AnnieA~I am a broken record about the price vs. value as well!

Agreed! It has been fun trying these in person at my local department stores (pretty mainstream selection in my city in general, with some niche/madly pricy ranges also available) but I don’t think they’re all that interesting. Hmm. I love Marc Jacobs mascara, but I cheaped out when school started and bought two tubes of Cover Girl (with a coupon, even). It’s…okay. I hate the brush (it’s the hard plastic kind with short pointy “bristles”). My lashes are dark and not super short but if I skip mascara, people think I am tired. Or ill. But I am diligent about tossing mascara three months after opening, and I felt wasteful doing that with the expensive ones. Suggestions for other budget mascara picks? (Not Great Lash, which I used to use but IIRC now irritates my eyes.) oh, and has anyone tried the Besame cake mascara? I’d love a report.

We had EPIC rain yesterday and the petrichor scent was heaven. It’s expected to bucket a bit again today and it’s chilly, so the cappuccino in today’s photo looks delectable. I’m having my usual latte (or two) while snugged up in a turtleneck sweater and wool shawl, and wafting Carthusia 1681, a wonderful aromatic sandalwood fragrance with touches of black pepper and coriander. Yummy.

It’s downright chilly this morning, after an evening where it rained enough to halt my son’s soccer practice. Now it’s a classic sunny autumn morning, deep cerulean and gold and the air washed clean of haze and smoke. Leaning into the socks-and-sweater weather with Fille en Aiguilles, my “cozy forest goddess” scent.

Mitsouko EdP simply because it’s been too long. I opened our sliding glass door this morning as I made coffee. The chill kicked our heater on, so I turned it off.

Showered using my husband’s Porto Orange Amber soap. We laugh at our shower because it ended up bigger than we expected. But…I swear every time I shower I feel as if I’m on vacation somewhere.

Was just thinking life must be tough for non-patchouli inclined folk…it’s pretty ubiquitous…even if it’s not listed in stuff. I generally love patchouli but can imagine it would be hard to avoid and frustrating if you don’t.

Overcast, somewhat chilly day today, which will probably turn rainy any time now. Wearing 31, rue Cambon today since it’s a day where I need to look and feel professional, and this is my go-to “professional” scent.

I think I may have to raid Mr. Ockeghem’s limited stash sometime this week to find a scent with coffee in it. Otherwise, I’m often coffee scented, but that’s because I’m a klutz and spill coffee on myself. 😀

Smarting from a lecture from the pharmacist. I called to check in on the three prescriptions I am waiting on, and he told me that Rite Aid, like every pharmacy in the country, was a week behind due to having to give inoculations and that he personally had a thousand prescriptions in his queue to fill. He said that all in a very annoyed, schoolmarm-y tone. Yeeeesh!

In Baiser Vole–so at least I smell pretty!

After yesterday’s rain that carried into the night, the sun is out. The rain was much needed here, and it was a nice easy soaking rain so the ground had time to drink it up.

I’m in Vero Naja today, about ready to hit the beach and let doggo have some leg time.

The surf has been rougher than I remember the entire time I’ve been here. Not sure if this is due to storms offshore or what, and it’s not really windy so I’m not sure. Anyway, we try to keep above the surf line.

I had a nice helpful convo with some volunteers at Devil’s Churn a couple of days ago about camping in the area. If you’ve never been to DC, it’s worth going to YouTube and watching some drone videos of that area. It’s an awe inspiring, terrifying yet enthralling example of the power of water. I stop there every time I’m on the coast because it never gets old. A man from California apparently died while trying to jump over the narrow part of the chasm last month. As far as I know they have yet to recover his body, although his tennis shoes did pop up and were saved for his family. Sad.

When I was on the coast a couple years ago, I got knocked over and dragged a few feet by a mini sneaker wave because I was paying attention to the dog instead of the surf. Don’t you know, when I was finally able to stand up and stagger up the beach, there’s the doggo, sitting as calm as you please, high and dry above the surf line. ??‍♀️ The ocean is no joke.

The ocean is the true unknowable and unpredictable. And yup, sneaker waves are just that! I have watched toddlers get knocked over and possibly traumatized for life, while walking with parents who did not understand how powerful those waves could be.

Tonight I am in Misia, the edp which is notably more violet forward than the rosier edt, but I’m not complaining as anything violet makes me happy.

    Tuesday!

    1) Glorious rainy day! Grey steel skies!

    2) Arianna Grande’s Cloud body mist (Marshall’s find ) a really nice scent that is has a light caramel & floral/herbal scent. A great way to try the scent without commiting to the perfume. No projection unless you are hugging me- very much a skin scent this one is.

    3) Today after work, I will be redoing the microwave so that it will vent properly (I am hooking it up into the vent system) and THEN beginning the tiling for the backsplash. I will be using Simplimat for ease of installation- set up the mat on a clean wall, lay the tile according to the pattern, then you can immediately grout. This saves two days of time in installation.
AGAIN, I cannot find anyone to come out and do this, so I MUST do this myself (with help of a neighbor). #DIY

I wish someone who has smelled both could tell us what the differences, if any, are.

The Heritage bottle looks really solid and elegant, based on the photos I have seen.

I bought vintage Chaldee based on Kevin’s review and I love it!

Whatever is in my sample, I think it is a great comfort scent.

I snoozed myself out of going into the office – it was so nice snuggling under the blanket! We also have the same yucky weather here. In a nice note, the leaves have started to turn, slowly but surely!

One small tree by the small, local grocery store in my area has already turned completely red! ??

And yes, the bed covers were very snuggle-inducing this morning.

Sotd is Bruma – a cozy fall scent.

SOTD: Scherrer, by Jean Louis Scherrer. Love it! One of the regular readers of my blog wears it often, and because I love 1) green fragrances, and 2) chypres, I realized I had to have it. It’s wonderful in the crisp, clear autumn weather we’re having!

Beautiful, clear, sunny, and COOL here today. SOTD has been Narciso in the black, non-cubey bottle, sprayed very very lightly for work and then pumped up when I got home. I rotated some fall scents into the fragrance staging area today. But still no coffee (except going down the hatch).
