Serge Lutens La Proie Pour L’Ombre ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 17 September 2021 9 Comments

French niche house Serge Lutens has launched La Proie Pour L'Ombre, a new fragrance in the Gratte-ciel collection.

La proie pour l'ombre, an improbable, paradoxal [sic] and elegant perfume in Serge Lutens' Gratte-ciel collection. Serge Lutens reflects on the well-known French expression La Proie pour l’ombre, to create a fable on those torn apart by impossible choices. Plagued by a lack of resolution, they take refuge in a world of illusions, a hall of mirrors where they chase after shadows rather than substance. Tender vanilla or carnal leather, you can't trade one for the other! Like two sides of a coin, they are diametrically opposed, yet their fates are irrevocably entwined.

"Oh Prophet, within you, you bear his cross, a blood other than yours runs through your veins! Cursed by this duality within me that has doomed me to chase after shadows rather than substance. The tender caress of vanilla and the cracking whiplash of leather, combined in a single emotion, to reflect the ambiguity evoked by the two sides of the same fable. Serge Lutens"

Serge Lutens La Proie Pour L'Ombre is £260 for 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Vanilla and leather? On the one hand, Un Bois Vanille, just one of the greatest vanilla scents ever. On the other hand, Cuir Mauresque, so very boring. Hard to know what this one will smell like, and maybe it’ll be great, but not at that price, not a chance.

I am pretty much ignoring this series. Actually I’m pretty much ignoring SL these days.

If it is fantastic, I’m sure I’ll hear about it 😉

I have both of those. Maybe I’ll just layer them and see what happens.

But yeah, pretty ignoring SL theses days. They seem to have lost the touch that mon oncle once had.

The Black Narcissus reviewed it recently, it sounds appealing. Will wait til it shows up at discounters.

I have many SL loves. I am a huge fan of the recent Fils de Joie. When I read/watched this: https://freebox.it.com/2018/10/29/skyscraper/%3C/a%3E , I was intrigued and liked the bottles. However, since then and with some reflection, I have to say I don’t like the bottles so very much, and have not felt any FOMO as the various new releases burst on the scene. I will still wait and see.

The Black Narcissus blogger pointed out the design similarities of the original Lutens, Nombre Noir, with the new black skyscraper bottles. That said, I also dislike them because they are too tall and thin and the labels are tiny black print on black background and impossible to read. I do love Fils de Joie!

I’ve made today Serge Lutens Day, upon reading pyramus’s mention of Un Bois Vanille. I love UBV!!! Just sprayed my forearm with it, and on the other Arabie, my most favourite SL. On my biceps I’ve got Chene and Tubereuse Criminelle
