Wednesday scent of the day 7/28

Posted by Robin on 28 July 2021 158 Comments

Happy Hump Day and World Nature Conservation Day! (Also, National Milk Chocolate Day). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm commando for my last few hours at the beach. I'm thinking Sarah Jessica Parker Stash SJP for the drive home later today.

Reminder: on 7/30 we're doing BUB Frenzy. Wear a fragrance that inspired you to buy a backup bottle (or that you wish you wish you had a backup bottle of, or you're thinking about buying a backup bottle). Adapted from a suggestion by chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Nicolai New York. I have two bottles of it so I guess that’s a bub except that I thought I lost my first bottle. No problem as I love it. The cool, dry citrus should cut through the heat today.

And if you’re going to lose a bottle, at least it was a PdN and not something outrageously spendy!

I’m wearing Chaman’s Party by Honore des Pres, which is another dark, smokey vetiver, good for cool days, but not so much Texas in summer. If I wear another vetiver this summer it will have to be Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, for it’s citrus.

Ciao L2SM! I do! Their Peptide Night Cream and Vitamin C are fabulous.
I use their TINGL pads (Salicylic Acid 2%, Glycolic Acid 5%, Lactic Acid 5%) to address discoloration on my chest area. It’s lightened up my discoloration substantially. It’s too strong for my face, so I avoid that area.

Vintage Opium! I tried wearing it in 1980, and it just didn’t smell as gorgeous on me as it did the friend who wore it. Made me quite sad. Wonder if it would work on me now…

One of my friends that is a big qvc shopper gave me a bottle of carmindy perfume. I smell sort of like the beach. I get all the leftovers she doesn’t like.

I’m in Indochine this morning, and contemplating the pile of money I spent on clothes yesterday. My niece is having a marriage celebration later this year (small wedding actually held already, without most of her friends and extended family because of the pandemic), and in chatting with my mom yesterday I realized that I have nothing suitable to wear to the celebration events … so of course I immediately went online and hunted a few possibilities down. I fully expect to return a lot of what I ordered, but my credit card is reeling a bit nonetheless.

You don’t hear much about jumpsuits these days. This brought back a memory from the late 70s, when my first husband (before we were married) was in a band and I made black jumpsuits for all the band members. They actually looked pretty spiffy, for that era.

Good morning, all! Still wrestling with headaches but wearing a bit of Bronze Goddess and enjoying the cool of the morning before the temperature starts to climb. Taking my son to a local sporting goods store later today to get kitted out for his first soccer season, and firmly in denial that I may have set myself on a path towards becoming a soccer mom.

Scentless today, as I got a bad dose of some pesticide or chemical the day before yesterday that invades my system and comes out in the saliva glands and makes everything taste bad and my lips and tongue go numb, so I am detoxing at the moment with things I know are safe – half tin of coffee which has been fine, some bison burgers I have frozen, fresh organic produce….wish I knew what that chemical is – I encounter it a couple times a year at random intervals. Don’t know where it comes from. Ugh. I have no BUBs at the moment because I am out of Mohur Extrait, and I have been trying to buy a BUB for half a year, but there have been other things demanding my dollars. If I was wearing scent today, it would probably be Wisteria Hysteria, which is great in hot, humid weather…

Each person you meet with should get one 🙂

I started a new job last year and was told that my sending an email after the interview to say thank you for the time and confirm my interest weighed in my favor bc several others hadn’t bothered. It definitely wasn’t the reason I got the job, but it apparently reinforced the decision. Such an quick thing to do, I don’t understand why a canidate wouldn’t do it (even if it can be a bit painful to figure out what to say).

I’ve been interviewing people for a job on my team and it’s noticeable that people are not sending thank yous. Wow. Such a simple thing to do. And since I work in a fundraising office and we spend a lot of time thanking our generous donors, we particularly notice when people don’t send an interview thank you!

Also, I do always get back to everyone who interviewed on where we are with the hiring process and the final decision.

    Hello all!

This week’s poll was made for me and my crazy hoarding tendencies, but I’d have to admit to those out loud….

I chose vintage Byzance EdT. I’m not quite sure how it happened but I have 5 (!) bottles, though if my memory serves, I spent less on the lot that some of those bottles individually get listed for on eBay. Eventually I might destash but I really do love this scent.

    Stay safe everyone.

Hi, springpansy: I had that conversation (and handed over a letter with the details and some personal thoughts ’cause I loved my job) back in April. I have not mentioned it here before, but I retired at the end of May! It was right; from how dedicated you seem to have been to work, I say you will be glad.

A retired friend pointed out that retiring in the summer was a good idea, since I like to work outside and there are so many yard/house projects calling to me. I’ve found the transition easy; my layoff last year due to COVID shutdowns turned out to be a practice run. Not to go on, but one funny thing is since I was a career-long, 8-5, M-F person, mornings can “feel” like Saturday, every day! Thanks for asking and looking forward to hearing how you do!

I retired at the end of 2020 and haven’t regretted it for a second. It was actually a blessing for my department head, because of the pandemic — he had instructions to trim the department’s budget, and I was a medium-sized part of it. I think he misses me, but not too awfully much. ?

Wearing the summery Biehl PC01. This was a perfume I loved so much I hunted high and low to get a second bottle, finally finding it in a Toronto hair salon – a confusing venue. All that effort, and then I found my love had subsided to mere affection, and drat, it’s a big bottle. Fickle Nose strikes again…

Oh, I hate when that happens! That’s kind of the reason I haven’t felt a deep need for back-up bottles over the years — I worry that I won’t be in love with a scent anymore by the time I thunk the original bottle. (Of course, all bets are off with regard to Chanel 19 …)

There’s a heat wave coming over the next three days, as if it hasn’t been hot enough already. I’m wearing Desarmant, so pretty. If I didn’t have 100mls I’d buy a BUB but I’m sure I have enough given the size of my perfume cabinet.

I haven’t bought a full bottle of perfume since October and so I uncharacteristically splurged and spent a good chunk of my first Denver paycheck and blind bought Santal Sultan from Ensar Oud. Hope my nose approves of my spending as much as Donatella does.

SOTD is Rosa Sur Reuse which I have a backup for but would be thrilled to obtain even more of

Do report on the Ensar Oud. I like so many mass market scents so much (Guerlain, Estee Lauder) that I have only sampled some Areej d’Or scents from the stratospherically priced realm.

This is such a coincidence! I came to NST today to post that my only BUB that counts is Ensar Oud Santal Sultan. Not that I use huge quantities; I don’t. It just seems precious and irreplaceable. I hope you enjoy it, too!

BTW, I also sampled Ensar Oud Santal Royal, which Kafkaesque preferred, but my choice was Santal Sultan.

Commando because I’ve had a low-grade headache all day. Hot shower didn’t help as much as I thought it would. Allergy pill and just now took an Excedrin, which is best for these kinds of things. I keep trying to tackle more of the stuff in the garage but have to take breaks. Headache is making me tired more than anything else.

Went to movies again yesterday. This time, there was just one other person in the quite large theater. Black Widow, which was entertaining and humorous (Natasha was one of the best of the Avengers.) Completely ridiculous action sequences. Worth the $5. Joe-Bob says check it out.

SOTD is CdG Soda. This conveys the smell and tingle of effervence really well. Started as a lemon soda, one hour in it morphed into a gingerale, and several hours in it mornphed into a ginger and floral soda. Enough sweetness to realisitically mimic soda, but not so much that it is heavy. Reminds me of Chinotto Dark. Fantastic for summer.

Drinking French Gray tea today, bc I’m fancy. And because the bergamot & rose is a nice compliment to Soda.

I’m wearing Bois de Violette today, I think that was my first BUB. I paid a lot for a bottle when it first appeared in the export range, then bought a second bottle when I found it much cheaper a couple of years later. Apart from the comfort of a BUB, that also brought down the average price per ml 🙂

In other news…I live in a county in NJ for which the level of infection “qualifies” me to have to wear a mask indoors under the updated guidelines. I have been masking up anyway the past 2 weekends, with a very short 3-week mask freedom. Will it ever end ??

Although Virginia reach the original 70% goal, it has only around 50% of the total population vaccinated now. That doesn’t seem like enough to stop a highly contagious variant, and cases are ticking up again in my county. Since I’m older, I never stopped masking in indoor public spaces. Someone I know dubbed this “the new Forever War.” Maybe I’ll relax after some sort of booster someday?

BTW, it is possible for non-health workers to buy 3M N95s on Amazon again.

It’s not overly powdery like Iris Poudre, nor rooty like ISM. Today I’m picking up more of the dry spiciness, probably the cardamom and ginger. I also have the oil (if that’s any indicator to you). There’s always room for another iris in my collection!

Definitely worth picking up a sample to test it out.

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2021/07/28/derecho-midwest-great-lakes-thunderstorms/

One of the bad things about a derecho is that so many people may be left without power at the same time, so the it can take days afterwards to restore power. Be sure to charge up all your devices and have power packs on hand for your phones, if possible. Good luck!!
