The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 29 June 2021 19 Comments

So the Chanel Factory 5 collection (remember?) is out, and among the items I did not expect, here we have the No. 5 L'Eau water bottle, which I don't want — or more accurately, would possibly buy if it were $5 or $10 — but maybe you do? "Discover an elegant glass water bottle marked with the same visual identity as the N°5 L’EAU fragrance bottle. Designed to be used wherever you are." $75. Another surprise: black and white Chanel No. 5 decorative tape, $55 for 5 rolls (I can't seem to find out how much tape that gets you, although if you're paying $55 for Chanel No. 5 tape maybe you don't care.)

Still, makes it harder for your personal assistant to calculate how many packs to buy to fill your lifetime need for Chanel No. 5 tape.

But like I told him, my PA, get 50 or 100 rolls or whatever. I don’t really care.

You guys crack me up! I had a gut reaction that the water bottle made me think of tasting perfume. And since I have accidently gotten it in my mouth before that is not a good thought. Yes, I have sprayed myself in the face, not seeing where the nozzle pointed!

I’m tickled by the sets of shower gel and body lotion in little tubes like paint. A lot of thought obviously went into the whole collection, and since it’s limited-edition, it’ll sell out in the blink of an eye.

Meh. At times of pandemics and global warming, I feel like Chanel didn’t really hit the mark with the 100 year No5 celebration collection. Here we have more stuff to spend their life unused in cupboards: tape, tubes and water bottles. My money will be staying in my wallet. But then again, perhaps I‘m not the target audience.

I am not feeling the water bottle- unlike with the body oil and such, this feels very Eddy and Patsy, Ab/Fab kitsch- and you gotta be a certain person for that.

I have no clue who Eddy and Patsy are, so I’m most assuredly not the target audience either.

OMG Eddy would have a kitchen cabinet full of those bottles, and Patsy would just fill them with vodka.

Nancyleandros, that is a reference to the show Absolutely Fabulous (AbFab).

My mom used to refill Perrier and Evian water bottles back in the 80’s. She would have wanted this back then. Lol.

This whole concept is a little too cutesy for me. I would have hoped for something even more elegant than usual, like the dark red bottle they had previously. Of course, No. 5 hates me, so I’m not the target audience.
