Tuesday scent of the day 6/15

Posted by Robin on 15 June 2021 162 Comments

It's Tuesday, Beer Day Britain and Global Wind Day. A few musical birthdays: Erroll Garner, Waylon Jennings, Harry Nilsson. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm happily wafting Aftelier Candide, again. Tea at the moment is Yunnan Zi Xiang organic, with a splash of milk and a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Reminder: on 6/18, we're doing edition 3 of Bottle Porn Friday, by request. Wear something you bought in part or in full because of the bottle, or a fragrance you think has a beautiful (or otherwise perfect) bottle. (suggested by michael and happy888cat, this is a repeat of a project we did in 2015 and 2017.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the La DoubleJ Tree of Life porcelain teapot, part of a 12-piece collaboration with Ladurée ("Introducing our mother of the kitchen and centerpiece of any tea party, our fine ‘n’ floral porcelain Teapot. Crafted by the Italian porcelain greats Ancap with elegantly moulded flower motifs and hand painted 18K gold details, this extra large mama is part of our heart-thumping Ladurée collaboration, inspired by the sacred feminine. This verdant print, designed in-house at LDJ, represents the all-abundant, all-protecting Tree Of Life.") is $275 at La DoubleJ.

I’m in my very last drops of late-nineties Dior Fahrenheit, enjoying that weird gasoline+celery top note for the last time. It was nice while it lasted (decades!) but I have lots of other scents to amuse myself with.

    Hello all!

It’s been a bit since I’ve gotten on here. It’s been a busy month so far and still have so much to do!

I’m in CdG Copper, which I bought somewhat impulsively. But good golly, it is phenomenal. I love the green galbanum/ white pepper, and it has a pretty impressive sillage. Doesn’t hurt that the bottle is so lovely.

    Stay safe everyone!

I’m choosing perfumes this week from the bottles I find most appealing. Today is Philosykos – I love the line drawings on diptyque bottles. I have the EDP, and the black sides and smoked grey glass are so sharp. Oh, and I smell great too!!

It’s very light, and I didn’t over spray as I usually do, but I really liked it going on. However, I’m going to have to get a decant so that I can spray quite a large amount. At this point, it has faded to a skin scent. A very light skin scent.

This is a cute bottle but I wouldn’t consider it for the CP

Yesterday spent a beautiful day in Soho with a friend that is giving up their place in NYC and her last week here. We went to cafe Maman and some other fun hip stores. I bought a pair of cut off shorts

*swooooon* Cafe Maman is TO DIE FOR! I stayed around the corner from that place last time I was in NYC and went there almost every morning with my mom, who came up to visit me from where she lives between Philly/Trenton. Got her addicted to avocado toast and lavender lattes ?

Glad you had an amazing day!

When I read this note I immediately made a lavender latte at home. Its actually simple, I just grab some lavender from my pot, boil it with some sugar to my a simple syrup. Add to my espresso and top with milk.

I am wafting deliciousness in L’Aromatica Kulfi, courtesy of AnniePerfumes (thanks, amiga!). This — the original — is by far my favorite of the Kulfi variations. From the L’Aromatica website, notes are: Cardamom Pods, Vanilla Bean, Coconut Cream, Sandalwood, Saffron Threads. That’s right, I smell like Indian dessert, and I like it.

I’m in Pineward Apple Tabac, which I have in a sample vial, but the image for it on fragrantica is a an old school glass stopper bottle, which I think are so cool, so I’m claiming a cp point.

AT is like a more complex version of a BBW scent. (No shade at BBW. I think of them as straight forward and as advertised; BBW Mango smells unmistakably like mango). This is scent is CLEARLY a fresh, sweet red apple scent. But there is a little bit extra going on – a few drops of rum, a pinch of wet tobacco, and a scattering of raisins. I usually like apple as a supporting note. This is too much apple on its own for my taste, but I think it will be excellent layered with a woody scent (eyeing some of Forest&Juniper scent fails for that purpose).

Drinking Georgia Tea Co. Snowflake tea because I thought the coconut and almond in it would go nicely with AT.

Which reminds me of my favorite CBIHP layering combo — Burning Leaves and Gathering Apples. I would wear that more if I just owned the bottles, ha.

I followed Robin’s Erroll Garner link and learned 1) he had a twin brother, 2) he was 5’2″, and 3) he never learned to read music. Wonders never cease. My husband purchased a CD of Concert by the Sea for me, earli-ish in our marriage and it rocked my world. I always loved jazz and classical guitar, but piano? Naw. I must have played Garner’s CD a hundred times in the first weeks after I got it.

I finished off the last of my Fiele’s Cedrus this morning.

Oh by the way a CP point for me too: I was born in Warsaw and moved to the US long time ago but I remember browsing through luckyscent and came across Puredistance “Warszawa”. Of course I got so excited but the price tag cooled me down a lil’ bit. Later on luckyscent I saw that Nishane also had “Warszawa” written on their bottle of Tuberoza. Oh I forgot to say Warszawa means Warsaw in Polish. I was like so excited that perfume houses started making perfumes circled around the city I was born in. Otherwise it is always Paris, Tokyo or even Shanghai. So in part I wanted a bottle of perfume to say “Warszawa” on it. I also thought a bottle of Tuberoza was made of such a gorgeous red glass that fit it’s floral name perfectly. I expected to like it but I had no idea I would actually loose my mind over how happy, and delicious Tuberoza smells!!

SOTD… well, haven’t decided yet. Today’s the last pleasant weather day before a heat wave, so I’ll be going all tropical for the rest of this week. Though I do promise to report my bottle porn holdings on Friday 🙂

My main activity this morning is trying on DRESSES. We are going to a wedding this weekend! So I need to pick out a dress for the wedding and another for the brunch the next day. I haven’t dressed up since Feb 2020. Should be entertaining trying to manage zippers and heels and such.

This week may yet prove to be a bit better than I thought.

In Chloe EdT today, but testing it layered (Hermes Santal Massoia on the left and Cuir d’Ange on the right)… not sure which combo I like better.
Chloe’s bottle design reminds me of pieces in my dad’s crystal engraving shop from my childhood and probably was the main reason I bought it, lol. Does that count for a CP?

So the winning combo is Chloe EdT and Santal Massoia… always nice to hear “something smells amazing” from hubby as he walks in the door and having him narrowing it down to one combo (C+Cd’A was nice, but just a bit too sweet for him).
Totally agree re: the weight and design of the Chloe bottles – they have a classic appeal to me.

… Delina bottle is one of the most beautiful I ever seen.

In Pour Une Femme de Caron, an amber, spicy, rosy number to warm up a cool Seattle day and it’s bottle porn for sure.

The bottle is upside down so the cap on the sprayer is the base of the bottle-

And some of you might remember when I posted the text below (on the box) as another example of something terribly lost in the translation from French to English.

    Je vous offre

Wearing Iris Shot, the rest of my sample. While it’s lovely, I don’t think I need anymore.

A few sprays from a Primo can..just because..I can. lol. I wore this much in the 90s..I was very much a BWF chick..still am. Bonus points for picking up a coconut scented dental floss of all things. Lol it was still a bit expensive..even on clearance but damn where has this been all my life? I have just been using mint? It’s called Cocofloss. I love getting whiffs of coconut whilst I am getting out bits between the teeth lolol.

SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Soufflé Intense

    Oh yes!
    https://www.instagram.com/p/CQJ7Cj2h80R/?utm_medium=copy_link

I am claiming CP points! The intense blue, the batwing bottle and the super cute 50mL bottle, plus the perfume is powdery, resinous, musky vanilla with some citrus and florals. What’s not to love?

It’s Day 2 of a much cleaner stove top. I think the idea is to wipe it down everyday. Let’s see how long this lasts…

For the 2nd time in as many years, a bottle from LuckyScent arrived damaged. I thought the packaging was cool with its ombré effect but I soon found out it was a deceptive ombré. I cannot tell where the leak is but it had also damaged the gold finish of the bottle. I hope they don’t ask me to send it back because even ground shipping a leaky bottle is dangerous. I don’t want anyone to read about me in the papers for being a pyro ? ?

I will be back later to read comments!

Much improved weather today, but there was a brief burst of thunderstorm activity at around 1 this morning. It was a very effective alarm clock. ?? Fortunately I went back to sleep rather quickly after that. ?⚡⏰

SOTD = back in AG Mandragore. My sample of this is almost thunked. If I had the colored, 50mL bottle of this, it would definitely count for the CP in my book.

SOTD is Kyoto, a sample from the generous Vee.

Oooh, it’s so good!! Very very soft though, but that only makes me want a full bottle so I can properly douse myself. This seems it’d be a great incense for anytime, even the warm months.
