Wednesday scent of the day 5/26

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2021 186 Comments

Hump Day, National Paper Airplane Day and Miles Davis’ birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Inspired by apsara yesterday, I'm in Ormonde Jayne Ta'if.

Reminder: 5/28 will be Summer Vacation Friday...wear a fragrance that reminds you of a favorite vacation, that fits an upcoming vacation, or that would work for a vacation you wish you could take. (If it's winter where you are, adjust accordingly.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s gonna be a hot one (going back to normal tomorrow) so I am wearing the bright sunshine of L’Artisan Séville a l’Aube, the only orange blossom scent I have ever loved unreservedly. It’s dazzling.

Steamy hot here too, just as well the Ta’if wore off because I don’t think I’d want it right now.

    SotD = Vanira Moorea

yummy! I would be content to take this scent to a warm island somewhere. Any destination suggestions? And who’s with me? 😀

Seriously, it’s chilly here again, and I’m sure I’ve become part lizard in the past year. I’m cold all the time, unless the day brings sunshine and 80 degrees or more. In a few years I’ll be wearing a wool cardigan all summer. 😉

I’m in L’ombre Dans l’eau edp today, and it’s perfect. This is one I have to be in the mood for, but when I am, it’s just right.

It’s been a rough few days. Our school district lost another student to suicide on Monday, and we started state testing today. Feeling helpless and angry.

I’m so sorry to hear that – student suicides are such a hard thing to have to deal with, and affect so many people. And I refuse to even talk about state testing because it just seems cruel to put the students through it after this bizarre year.

Beautiful picture Robin! I hope you’re home and relaxing post-vacation. Unpacking from vacation is not the most fun of chores…

Wearing Sintra today which, I see now in hindsight, was my gateway drug to fully embracing orange blossom!

I used to sometimes struggle with orange blossom but now I can’t get enough…it’s like the light bulb finally turned on for me w/ this note. Thus I am currently on a mini OB detour/bender buying samples and hunting down fragrances w/ orange blossom and vanilla…please let me know if you have recommendations and don’t wait up… 😉

Well, there’s Gucci EDP (2002, clear square bottle, brown juice), which is discontinued but which STC has in stock if you want to sample, or is fairly readily available online at various outlets. Or there’s Santa Maria Novella Eva, which I finally bought in FB quantity recently after STC stopped stocking it. The Gucci is an oriental orange blossom with iris, vanilla, sandalwood and sweet-ish spices (has caraway which reads to some as cumin, but it’s not the BO kind on me), and Eva is straight-up orange blossom with black pepper and lemon and some vetiver in the drydown. Happy hunting!

I like orange blossom too! I have and enjoy Elie Saab Le Parfum (available in a cute 10ml bottle), and Yves Rocher Neroli, which was a cheap thrill, but is no longer on the Yves Rocher website. It can be found elsewhere, though.

This makes me wonder, can people here tell the difference between neroli and orange blossom? I can’t, at least not in perfumes. Maybe I’d learn the difference if I smelled them by themselves, one after the other. Or maybe you need a super sniffer to tell the difference–I don’t know!

I’m in Gallivant Los Angeles today, from the swapmeet and a kind NSTer. Cp points for me, although I’m being quite literal: went to LA in January 2019 to see my daughter. Also had a lovely lunch with Oakland Fresca and visited the Aftel perfume museum. It was a fantastic trip! I want to go back, but not ready to get on a plane yet.

Does anyone have a favorite Gallivant?

I’m in January Scent Project’s Vaporocindro today, which is currently in its daffodils and coffee stage. It sounds bizarre but smells incredible at his stage (about 6 hours after spraying).

Stress levels are high, just trying to get through the last two weeks of school. We have an asynchronous day today (thank heaven!) so I’m finally able to breathe just a little bit.

SOTD is ALOF What We Do In Paris Is Secret, because a vacation to Paris sounds pretty good right now (in a parallel universe without covid, that is). This is a pretty vanilla floral. Easy to wear. I can see why lucky scent includes it in one of their sample start packs, which is how I got this.

I feel like we need a She-ra guide to vanillas.

    Hi All! Humpday!

    1) SOTD: Solar Bloom by Clean- really pretty but artificial smelling coconut & floral scent. I got a small bottle back in 2019 and found it again! Perfect for those hot sweaty EDM festivals- remember those?

    2) The deconstruction of the kitchen is 100% completed! How much STUFF did I collect in that kitchen???!
There was minor damage to the walls but that has been repaired. And I repaired a small leak that I was unaware of all this time, and put in smoothed concrete on the spot where there was damage. Richard my handyperson will be taking over from this point on- I have end of month reports and he will doing the further assembly and installation of the cabinets while I am freed up to work. It’s worth it at this point and he needs the money ( dentures!) . I assembled 3 cabinets though, so that will be easy going tomorrow afternoon after tilework today.

Yes, it’s kinda weird- last I could have sworn that the leaks were not there BUT I think the cheap piping used wore out. In any case that piping has been switched out!
I will be posting all the pics!

Yesterday was Teazzurra for me. Today it is Ashoka. All that even though I still have an unopened bottle of perfume waiting for me to try it!!
When wearing Ashoka I don’t even feel like I am wearing a perfume despite the fact that I enjoy so much the way I smell. I feel like it is my true signature scent and/or my second skin. I am awaiting a sample of Mohur – I really want to try Niral too – I want to try and even own all Neela’s perfumes!! I have a feeling I know what Neela tried to accomplish with her line… Perfection. And I am a huge fan of her art.

SOTD is D’Orsay Vouloir être ailleurs

It is definitely a summer fragrance and reminds me of France (I wish I’d grown up in France and had been the 15 year old described in the D’Orsay marketing who blissfully wanders among the Linden trees).

I don’t know Le Grand Chalet well enough to compare the two scents but I find this a lovely Linden that feels true to the flower, sweet but not cloying and supported by soft hay.

It also has some surprising staying power for an EdT and that makes me very happy 🙂

Does anyone know who created this heir to Olivia Giacobetti’s Tilleul? I don’t see her listed anywhere. And who is C.G. (next to the name of the perfume on the label)?

The only info I’ve been able to find also comes from the cryptic marketing description: “If you are like C.G, you are one of the Bright ones: discreet and sensitive. “Vouloir être ailleurs” evokes a restrained personality, both tender and reassuring.”

One of the “bright ones”? Something lost in translation there.

I’m wearing Amouage Love Tuberose which I definitely do. We had something like 11 days of rain snd this morning part of my bedroom ceiling fell in! I wasn’t in there. Fortunately no kittens got smashed. Ugh! The roof repair guy gave me a warranty and he’s coming back tomorrow. In the meantime I had a bunch of X-rays and learned I need a shoulder replacement. My pain has become excruciating. It really limits you. Next step is an MRI and then schedule the surgery. I want to get it over with.

Hot day here. I have been training a new employee, and I decided on EL Beautiful Belle Love. I got a rare compliment from the new person on it, and it was a $9 Plato’s Closet find. She does not wear perfume or scented lotions (mentioned her fiance’s allergies) but said she likes scented candles. I have noticed before that people will burn candles that are very strong, but will eschew perfume. Does. Not. Compute. RE: EL BBL, I like it for office friendly; I’d say give it a sniff if you get a chance. Happy Wednesday – so excited about some Splitmeet treasures heading my way.
