Thursday scent of the day 5/20

Posted by Robin on 20 May 2021 152 Comments

It's Almost-Friday, Josephine Baker Day and World Bee Day. Happy 75th to Cher! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Lush 25:43. No cp points for me, but I do smell fantastic.

Reminder: 5/21 is World Meditation Day. Wear whatever you think fits the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning nsters
Since a Paris Edimbourg bottle showed up yesterday and the day is cool with fog, the unwrapping will commence right after my shower.

        okay- thoughts on Paris Edimbourg.
tis beautiful. like the other eaux it’s light. But it’s not as summery as the others. It opens brightly with juniper and just weaves a lovely blend of cypress and vetiver. I feel enveloped.
Can still smell 8 hours in. Great for all year, and great for men/women. I love it and yeah glad I bought. Le Lion and this one have been a good year for me w/Chanel. Bring on the body lotion!

I’m in Joy from a decant I received in a swap many swapmeets ago. This is my first time wearing it and it has really suffered from evaporation. It doesn’t really feel like me so after my shower I think I’ll switch to something that does.
I slept like a rock last night! And dreamt about jeans. Apparently the search for the perfect pair haunts my subconscious. lol
On my to do list today is writing thank you notes to my professors. Not even really sure if that is a thing, but it feels like the right thing to do. I love a hand written thank you note.

Oh wow, what a never ending search for the perfect pair of jeans! We all will join you on that search….
Please believe me when I say, thank you notes from students are always appreciated. I’ve received a few and it’s always heart warming. 🙂

I occasionally get handwritten notes from students, and it’s so appreciated. If you are feeling the urge, do it — I bet it will make their entire semester.

I have a Happy Tub. It contains all of my yearbooks, handwritten letters, cards, scrapbooks, little notes, pictures and miscellaneous touching memories. I go through it and this many years later, these moments…
I’ve probably shredded my degree by now, lol.

Unexpected handwritten TY notes are the best. My mom has one from a former student (she had him in elementary school, he wrote the note when he was an adult) thanking her for helping him through a rough year as a kid. I know it means a lot to her.

I wear leggings every day of my life. If Vera Wang could build a fashion empire wearing leggings every single day, okay then.
From 8 dollar cotton to cashmere, I have dozens of leggings rolled in baskets ready to pull on.

Struggling very hard to keep my eyes open. Coffee with a dash of cinnamon and chili powder to the rescue. I hope it kicks in fast.
Another busy day, which will end with a dental appointment late this afternoon.

Commando but maybe some Zoologist Bee for Bee Day ?. 🙂
I saw a Hummingbird Moth which fascinated me..I thought for sure it was a hummingbird but it didn’t quite seem like 100 percent bird..then I found out why. Cause it wasn’t. But they are so close in appearance and character.

Good morning all, in honor of World Bee Day, my SOTD is De Ma Mere by Shelley Kyle. It has a beautiful linden, amber, honey, and beeswax note. I don’t wear it often, but it’s glorious.
Taking the day off, headed out for breakfast with Mr. SmokeyToes and the dentist later. As last week, I will try to make all 22 flights of stairs.

I already put on Asian Green Tea – because I was literally craving it. So no CP points for me… And I could have worn Bee instead!!
It is a very rainy day here and I love rain. Even though it is grey and rainy and overcast I was still wanting to wear Asian Green Tea. Oh, and I’ve finally figured out what is that middle note I like so much. It has to be the violet – now it makes sense. Green Asian Tea could have been “another simple green tea fragrance” – even though I love green tea perfumes – but it is much more complex. What it is not for sure – is flat. Done with perfection. The opening bright with citrus and sparkling lemon-green tea note BUT if someone served me a cup of tea that smelled/tasted like the opening of this perfume – it’d be super delicious. That plus it never starts to be a boring scent. I simply love it!!

Wearing Scherrer EdT today, because I finally got a big bottle of this. Plus some other bottles too. But they were all cheapies, so I only spent a bit above 100 Euro and have new scents to play with.
Wanted to drive to work and got a flat with a nail in it. So I took the day off spontaneously and got a new tire today. Thankfully my car dealer is just 5 minutes by foot away.

In Musk Deer and smell divine. My travel sprays arrived yesterday. They came in a beautiful box with a magnet clasp, with the prettiest tissue paper—I wrote to Zoologist and told Victor I’d buy the tissue paper if he sold it! Tried Tyrannosaurus Rex yesterday. Interesting, but I am pretty sure I do not need more than my little sample.

Several years ago I learned that there are more than 400 native bee species found in Pinnacles National Park, which is a tiny place by National Park standards. I’d had no idea bee diversity was so high just in one little corner of California! Since then I’ve paid attention to the native bees in my garden and have noticed how much they adore my native plants, and I’m so happy that I’ve been able to create habitat for them. Wearing Zoologist Bee in their honor, even if this fragrance was designed more with European honey bees in mind.

Sampling Nishane Hundred Silent Ways today. Sweet, fruity, floral vanilla to my nose.

Spoke to my sister just now and she had her follow up appointment this morning from her pancreas surgery and the very center of the mass was cancer but it wasn’t found in any of the lymph nodes, organs, etc. or anything else removed and the resections were good too…the edges were precancerous when they did the biopsy but they warned the cells might be different within the mass too. The surgeon is very pleased overall as he believes it was well contained and she will get rescanned every 3 months. She will also see an oncologist to see what they say/recommend. She is in good spirits. It’s a lot to process. I feel relieved it was contained, that the surgery was successful and she is healing well. I also feel angry and sad at the diagnosis…it brings up lots of feelings as my mother passed away from pancreatic cancer a little over 2 years ago now.

Wearing a tester of Rose Pompon from a generous NSTer. I do love a fruity, dewy rose.

Had some excitement this afternoon with a bat sleeping on the wall in my foyer. My city’s animal control officer came to remove it (a service I didn’t know was available until today), and I’m just glad I saw it during the day, while it was sleeping. If I had encountered it flying around at night I would have had to move and burn the house down, obviously. 🙂

I totally love bats! Their little faces! One got into my (former) house through a partially open window years ago and for a moment I wasn’t sure how to deal with it, but then I remembered about their amazing echolocation abilities and just opened the front door, which it promptly ‘pinged’ and flew out through.

Bats outside? Wonderful! Pictures of bats? Adorable! Bats in my house, during daylight, sleeping? Disruptive, but (as it turns out) totally manageable. Bats in my house, swooping in close range, in the dark? The stuff of my nightmares!!!

I had two bats in my house last year, which I only discovered when my cats went crazy. It was evening and they were flittering about. Really creepy. I opened up some doors and windows snd they did finally fly out.

I am exhausted. I applied cream blush under my right eye instead of concealer and although I know I wore perfume today because I remember the physical act of spraying, I have no idea what I chose. It’s long faded, so it will remain a mystery. This school year needs to end soon!

After a year of not buying any perfume, and not being terrifically interested in what I have, I splashed out on a few bottles earlier this month. Mostly stuff I had tried and liked when I was testing anything and everything in 2016-17.

Guerlain “Habit Rouge” and “Héritage”, the old classics. I got these in the local El Corte Inglés. The sales assistant saved me some momey by putting the 2 bottles through separately – the 1st triggered a 20% dscunt voucher which she used immediately on the 2nd. (And that also gave me a voucher but I was done).

I noted over the past year or more that the perfumes I have from Chanel, Hermès and Guerlain really stood up to repeated wear in this climate. Whereas some stuff that was great in a colder climate rarely hits the spot here, where it’s warm or hot from May to October and we don’t really “do” Winter. (But I don’t know if it’s truly a climate thing; the past 3 years have been so odd, unstable & unsettling).

Nobile 1942 “Fougère Nobile” from Aus Liebe zum Duft. I simply remembered this as a pleasant fougère back when I tried a few. I also ordered some samples from Aus Liebe zum Duft, and they threw in a few more, plus a shortbread biscuit and a couple of boiled sweets. It is always fun receiving a package from them. :^)

Pierre Guillaume “Fleur de Foudre” (used to be just “Foudre”). I note that all the old sub-brands (Parfumerie Générale, Huitième Art, Collection Croisière) seem to have been folded into Pierre Guillaume Paris. Fleur de Foudre is supposed to be inspired by the scent of Champaca flowers after a thunderstorm (or before, or during – what do I know? When will I ever get to do a comparison with the real thing?). Anyway, the guy makes *far too many perfumes* but I liked this one and it stayed on my mind.

Today I am in one of the samples I ordered, People of the Labyrinths “Luctor et Emergo”, which folk here have been swooning over in the 5 or 6 years I’ve been around. I like it a lot. Not sure I would want a FB as it’s pretty sweet; the question is moot as it was only available to sample and not to buy.

Looking forward to cicadas and Splitmeet, so SotD is Luctor et emergo, in honor of both. I got my wonderful decant at last year’s meet, and watching the cicadas in my yard made me think of it. Hi, friends! Miss you all! Life has been super stressful and hectic. Was really tough finding a house in this market- we got outbid on 5! But we finally got one we love! Sooooo relieved and can now not worry about spending every waking minute looking for houses or going to showings. Can’t wait to get in it- hotel life gets old.

I’m in SIP Magazine Street from a sample (thunk!). I do really like this one but not enough to buy. I wouldn’t turn it down if it fell in my lap though haha. I’ve also worn Mohur and Cuir Ottoman earlier this week. Shalimar Light yesterday.
