Monday scent of the day 5/17

Posted by Robin on 17 May 2021 172 Comments

How can it be Monday again? It's also World Baking Day and the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm still at the beach, and my perfume choices are limited. I will probably be in a bit of Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess whipped body cream later today.

Reminder: 5/21 is World Meditation Day. Wear whatever you think fits the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning! I can’t believe its Monday as well.
I think it’s important we fight all the phobias and love one another as equal human beings. Love is love is love! I will be celebrating the colours in Zoologist’s Chameleon.

I’m in a big glug of the gorgeous I Profumi di Firenze Spezie de’ Medici, no structure at all, not a hard edge in sight, just a jumble of soft, creamy spices. It’s so comforting.

“Glug” is making me laugh. If you’re drinking your perfume, I think maybe you’re wearing it wrong?!

      (Sounds lovely, in any case.)

I absolutely love that scent, but it’s the one perfume I’ve worn that gave me an almost immediate very bad allergic reaction. Sigh.

For sneakers Hoka One One are wonderful.
None of these brands are cheap though…

I’m going through a bit of a pink phase myself and have been sneaking pale, dusty pinks into my home in the form of a new rug, candles, flowers, and a few oddments. It’s brought in some lightness and gladness that I’m much in need of!

Since I have a slightly uneasy relationship with pink, I’ve been introducing it via some faded Turkish rugs that read more “earthy” than “bonbon box.” But power to anyone who can rock bonbon box!

I’m in Heretic Scandalwood for some relaxing sandalwood.
What a whirlwind weekend! My graduation was yesterday and it was lovely. The speakers were wonderful, and inspiring. I felt myself getting all choked up more than once. So many emotions. So grateful for my family.☺️ My parents were able to watch virtually which was awesome.

I really like it. The first impression that I got was mint for some reason, although mint isn’t in the notes listed on Fragrantica. It is probably the resins in the base that I’m smelling. Anyway it is really enjoyable, and has lasted on my skin.

Mint? Interesting. I get a sort of camphorous feel from the resins, which I can imagine striking someone as a minty tingle. It’s a long-lasting one on me, too. I get lots of honey and hay with it, but the honey has a bit of rot to it, which I have to be in the mood for.

For me, wearing a mask when weightlifting isn’t bad.
Wearing a mask when doing Cardio is very difficult. I do intervals on the Stairmaster, ranging from level 6 to level 14 for 30-40 minutes. It’s really difficult to breathe at that intensity.

Mr. Spicebomb and I have watched and rewatched the Great British Bake-off several times, and there’s a few folks I have to act as “translator” for him! Between some hearing loss and the accents, if they talk too fast, all he hears is a jumble of sounds. Maybe subtitles is a better solution than me asking, “do you need me to repeat that?” 😀

The Safanad was very fleeting…now I am sampling Roja Dove Reckless Essence…this might be a remake of an older one.

Top notes are Mandarin Orange, Orange and Bergamot; middle notes are Neroli, May Rose, Jasmine and Geranium; base notes are Vanilla, Benzoin, Musk, Pink Pepper, Cinnamon, Sandalwood, Styrax and Coriander.

It’s a nice citrus floral w/ vanilla but not worth the price in my opinion.

I have a subscription to Acorn, too. I really liked the Agatha Raisin series, but my current favorite is Brokenwood Mysteries, set in New Zealand. Relatively slow-paced and thoughtful, it has comedic overtones yet is not silly.

I like to use subtitles to help me understand various dialects, and I will always choose subtitles over dubbing, but I have found that I end up focused almost too much on the text, for too long. I have to consciously exert effort to keep my eyes flicking up in order to see what’s happening on the screen.

Love Agatha Raisin too…just finished the last season. I watched 1 and 2 quickly then slowed down b/c I didn’t want it to end. 😉 I believe they started filming S4 in March of this year…looking forward to that. I may check out Brokenwood Mysteries next. So many good shows on Acorn.

I only watched the first episode of Keeping Faith so far but the subtitles really helped but they can be distracting too. I also love the different expressions/turns of phrases too.

Very slow start to my day today, so no SOTM, yet. It’s been really warm, in the 70’s and 80’s this week, but this morning is cool and cloudy for now. Maybe I can wear something bigger than the BG body cream I wore yesterday. Several mentions of sandalwood in the comments, Boxes of Eels sounds nice!

Baking day, huh? Well, I have a lemon custard (leftover lemons to use from baking the cake Friday) I’m going to make, does that count?

Trying a sample of Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano Azelea today. I was expecting a light spring floral, but this is not that at all. Started off amber and balsamic-y, and after about 15 minutes the chestnut took centerstage, with vanilla rounding it out. I get little bit of indistinct pink floral, but not even close to what I expected from a scent called Azelea. That said, I can see wearing it as a cold weather gourmand when I want something that is not sweet and won’t announce its presence to everyone in the room (IOW, when I’m not up for Angel).

Scent: Voyage d’Hermes, which I just reapplied after about 2 hours. I was wondering if my nose wasn’t working today, but various reviews confirm that it’s short-lived. I bought it when it was released, and ended up not loving it at the time, but eleven years (really!?) later, I’m enjoying it quite a bit more.

I’m all about lemon right now: lemon tea, lemonade, lemon drops, you name it. A bottle of Mediterraneo may or may not find its way to me very soon.

Yesterday, I was perusing the King Arthur Baking Company, and found multiple very intriguing things. I haven’t baked in ages, but I’m so tempted….

I really enjoy Voyage d’Hermes, but like almost all the other JCE creations for Hermes, it is fleeting. That said, a full bottle wasn’t that pricey back when I bought mine, so I can reapply with abandon.

I quite enjoy Voyage but not its longevity, so I’ve made it one of my “duty-free spritz favorites” that I’ll apply with abandon after getting through airport security if nothing else is calling me to sample. So – aptly for the name – it’s a scent I associate with traveling!

I’m wearing one of the scent samples included in the recent Sniffapalooza featuring DefineMe fragrances. This is Sofia Isabel, described as “a free-spirit who embraces life with confidence.” Well, not exactly how I would describe myself, but I still like this quite a lot. Mandarine, tangerine, black currant, jasmine, vanilla and sugar. It’s not quite as sweet and fruity as it sounds. I got confused and had to miss the actual meeting, and am only now trying some of the samples that were sent.
My two foster kittens decided on their own it was time to emerge from their own room into the rest of the house and it’s funny to see them exploring and meeting my other cats. There’s been some hissing but also some fascination. I’m a little worried that they’re going to keep staying here with me. ;-). Meanwhile their mama is still sequestered upstairs and she has gone into heat. She’s not as obnoxious as some female cats get to be, but keeps doing this throaty little crooning sound and waving her rump around in the air. It’s rather endearing. I have an appointment for her on Wednesday!

I’m wearing Initio Psychedelic Love, a nicely creamy vanilla and floral blend, with some added patchouli and sandalwood. Thankfully, the heliotrope doesn’t veer into Play-doh territory, which is often a problem for me with that note. It’s good, but not so good that I’d plunk down three C-notes for it.

No issues yet as far as I know in NJ (until Gov. Murphy lifts the masking requirement) but the no mask mandate is making me anxious. On the one hand, not masking will make it closer to being pre-COVID normal; on the other hand, sad to say, I do not trust some people to do the right thing. If one is an anti-vaxxer, what is the likelihood that they will keep wearing a mask? Those who cannot get vaxxed may need to stay home longer or if they choose not to, they run the risk of getting more seriously ill – who’s to blame?

I have to finish my taxes so will come back when I’m done!

The mask/ no mask/ who needs a mask question has made me extremely anxious. I still have to wear masks at work (with high school students), and my default is to wear a mask to protect others.

I could use some really firm guidance, but understand why it may be impossible to give.

Good afternoon!! Today’s Monday is the most special to me… My daughter’s 2 year birthday!!!!! Apart from other gifts I have arranged a large Lego Duplo board with Duplo sets ready fof her to find when she gets home from preschool. I have been waiting for this day as today officially marks her first day playing Legos!! Well she is 2 years old today afterall… I also have a giant dinosaur costume I will greet her in. My mom has a large Bunny one. Also at preschool she is having a party as well. So exciting and fun!!
SOTD will be Creed Asian green tea. Ohhhh what a beautiful tea fragrance. It opens fresh, bright and citrusy but in the middle it has that delicious note lime? Kind of turns very lime-y and I love that part!!

The cicadas are cool! They emerge from their tunnels when the soil temperature reaches 60 or 65 degrees at their depth. New Jersey is cooler than DC, so it will take a bit longer there. I only just started seeing them here in the last few days.

SOTD turned out to be not Asian Green Tea but Lavender Extreme. Quite frankly if I could pick just one smell I would like to have on me – it would be this. Something always pushes me towards lavender without thinking about it. My soaps, body wash, shampoo all smell like lavender (bought separately all unintenionally). When I’m in the store and I see a row of candles on the shelf my hand will always reach for the lavender scented one first.
Another thing is TF Lavender Extreme besides smelling like lavender which is my favorite one single note, it also leaves a nice, super clean, super elegant trail behind. Very, very pleasant. No need to think of the list of notes – so easy just to enjoy smelling so good. I think that my signature for every day wear would be this (or Encens et Lavande – I love both equally).
I also really like Perris Monte Carlo’s take on the lavender – lavande romaine. Anyways I love ANY lavender ANYTHING period:))

SotD = Chanel No. 5 EdP

because I was craving something comforting, and No. 5 is oddly perfect in that way for me. Few things come close, though I’m sure there are more than three or four I could name if I had a moment. 😉

Baking day?! Done! My daughter wanted white bread for a sandwich today and we had none, though I have pandemic-buying amounts of flour that needs to be used up. A neighbor gave me about 10 poundes from her 100 pound bag. My daughter and I baked a loaf of challah-ish bread that she was proud of.

And International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia? Yes, please. This world needs more things to be “for” and fewer things things to rail “against” and a whole lot of things to “not bother about at all.”

Hope everyone had a lovely Monday. I’m so grateful the days are long again. Increasing daylight has finally pushed my psyche out of first gear!
