Wednesday scent of the day 4/28

Posted by Robin on 28 April 2021 171 Comments

It's Hump Day and the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The swapmeet is still open! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm still out of town and will probably be commando much of the time until I get back home. Fragrance this morning is nothing but a bit of Weleda Sea Buckthorn lotion.

Reminder: April showers bring May flowers...whatever the weather, wear a spring floral on 4/30.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon is lingering from last night. It is a simple vanilla with wood, and I find it very comforting. I’ll put on something fresher as the day heats up into the 80s here!

For the NSTers in NJ – if you have any recommendations for fragrance sales associates at the Nordstroms in Short Hills or Menlo Park, please let me know. I usually shop online, but I’d like to start working with a SA, especially someone who has already earned the respect of a NSTer. Thanks.

LOL. And I will recommend my La Mer SA because I now only deal with her for perfumes. I couldn’t be bothered with the perfume SA.

    Another beautiful picture, Robin!

Lilacs are in full bloom in my area. I enjoy the scent, one of my favorites, especially late at night when I take my doggie for his last walk of the day. It is so relaxing!

I was looking for my sample of Vilhelm A Lilac a Day, but I couldn’t find it. I think I thunked it last year. So I am wearing Pacifica French Lilac.

We will be in the mid 80’s today. I love hot weather, but it is 59 degrees right now, so that drastic change, at least for a day is a bit overwhelming. I will go outside at lunch time for a long walk in the park to enjoy the temperature, the flowers all over and an the iced coffee I will grab on my way.

    Happy Wednesday! ?

There are two very large lilac bushes–trees really–in my neighborhood, and they have been in bloom. I stand underneath them, pull down my mask, and breathe in the lilac-y goodness! There is nothing like that scent!

That scent is intoxicating! I see some people breathe in the lilac scent when they stop by the trees. I don’t see that happen to other scented blooming trees.

I’m in PdN Odalisque, which I’ve worn before. I didn’t realize it was so LOTV forward. Perfect for the CP, although right now, magnolias are in bloom. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have any magnolia scents.

I sniffed a magnolia blossom on my walk today. Love the creamy, yet not sweet fragrance. Bright but not really citrusy. It’s hard to describe.

No SOTD yet. I need something that will keep me company today. I have gifts for all the teachers and counselors in our union, and I will be dropping off goodie bags to every school in our district–about 25 schools with over 600 educators to receive gifts! I’m not really sure how long it will take. I get lost driving around the neighborhoods sometimes. 😀 I’ve been working on this project since the fall. It will feel good to get them out to people. Hope they like it!

I got help paying for them with union money, so it’s just a gift of time on my part. It’s been such a hard year. I wanted people to have something tangible to know that we’re still all a community, working together, even when it feels so isolated.

In the perfect cannot make a decision about what to wear fragrance. SJP Lovely, a little lavender, a feeling of white flowers, though you would be hard pressed to name them and that wonderful creamy thing going on that I also smell in Covet.

I will attempt to answer this. Lovely is not hugely projecting but so beautiful to wear. Covet is a bit bolder and lasts longer with chocolate and geranium leaf persisting all day. Stash is bold and loud and the only time anyone has ever complained about my perfume in public I was wearing this. I over sprayed and threw on a big scarf and ran into a coffee shop, when I opened my scarf, Stash came rolling out and the other customers were a bit dismayed. Apply with a light hand.

Covet has a lovely Cashmere and teak wood drydown, it’s exquisite.

    I’m wearing Scent Trunk’s
April 2020 release. I was worried that it was really saffron heavy at first, but it’s mellowed into a really nice spice scent. I think it would be perfect on a cold day.

Of course, it’s supposed to get to 86 degrees today. Oops!

I’d describe it as fun and casual. It’s fairly linear but definitely not over-the-top. There is rose but is well blended with the other florals, and is slightly powdery now after 8 hours. To me, it’s a safe blind buy.

Hello all, my SOTD is Roger & Gallet’s Fleur de Figuier, fresh, fruity, effervescent, citrus and greens. I’ve layered it with the body oil for longevity, I so adore this and it’s perfect for today’s warm weather!

I mentioned to Mr. Smokeytoes that yesterday was Grant’s birthday, and received a mention on NST. Civil war history is his favorite time period in American history, and Grant is a favorite historical figure of his. Because Grant worked in a tannery as a child, Mr. Smokeytoes SOTD was vintage Fahrenheit, by Christian Dior.
Mr. SmokeyToes is home today, received vaccine #2 and isn’t feeling well. Smokey is happily climbing all over him. so cute.

I just don’t have a huge collection right now (I’m working on it:)) so it is not like I have a huge selection to wear something different every day for the next month… But my collection of samples is expanding. I was testing Enchanted Forest yesterday and it is definitely FB worthy. It starts with an almost tart, very loud note of berries, less sweet than Mure et Musc Extreme. What happens next is very unusual. Enchanted Forest then turns into a very “foresty” fragrance. I smell the trees, bushes and mosses. But everything is so beautiful I really felt like I was really in the middle of the woods!! Amazing

Try very hard never to compare your collection to anyone else’s, because it does not matter! We love to hear what people are wearing even if it’s the same thing every day.

Well for example The Land of Warriors 🙂 but it would be nice to buy that gorgeous red bottle for my Father one day. Also as much as I just LOVE the swan princess and was so impressed when discovering the enchanted forest, I thought Bass Solo was maybe the weakest of all 4 Vagabonds however I only sampled it once and am eager to give it another try.

It’s ☔ RAINING at last, so I wore something heavier, Fleur Oriental(e), I’m correcting the French, fleur is feminine, but anyway it’s an old school scent, very good and I recognize the MH musk, the same as in l’Air de rien.

A kereru – one of my neighbours! It’s native to New Zealand, and we saw them quite a bit last year, there was a pair living nearby. My mother gets frequently gets them in her garden, they love the new growth on her laburnum plant.
Perfume-wise, i haven’t quite transitioned to autumn, the days are still mostly sunny, but the weather is suddenly a lot colder. PdN’s Sacrebleu seems right for today.

Black Perfecto EdT, simply because I saw it and grabbed it.

Service guy is here to fix the big hood vent over our cooktop. Hasn’t worked since it was installed, and it fell through the cracks on getting it fixed. Hope he can figure it out…he commented he’s never known this brand to not work from the get go.

Thunderstorms yesterday, but blue skies today. We have discovered that even on low, our fireplace throws a lot of heat. We’ve turned it off and opened the windows. I didn’t realize how many evergreens were in our woods. It’s just enough to make me feel like I’m in my beloved Sierras. Including the lovely sound the wind makes through the tops of the trees. Doesn’t get much better.

I found a sample of Heretic Dirty Violet on my bathroom shelf today. How and when it got lost there is a bit of a mystery. (I’ve been moving some boxes of other things around in there, so presumably it fell out of one.) I tried other samples of the line and didn’t like much except Smudge. Dirty Mango is kind of OK but I prefer not to wear a scent with “Dirty” in the name. Is that peculiar of me? This one is actually quite nice. Not sure if violet counts as springy or not. I think of the flowers, which did used to bloom in spring in our yard up north, but this is from leaves I suppose. It adds in patchouli and leather for the “dirty” part but on the whole it comes off very gentle and lightly floral and warm, not a ‘butch’ scent at all. It’s quite lovely really. Not a lot going on here, except I took three kittens to the vet for checkups yesterday and came home with two. The vet tech begged me to adopt one of them, the fluffy black boy, and so I said yes. She was beaming!
She had recently put an older black cat to sleep. Plus, she has a one-year-old white cat and so he’ll have a playmate.

I had a dental appointment this morning for a filling so I just now put on some EL Tuberose Gardenia. I forget how good this is between wearings. Dapper the kitten is having a wonderful time playing with a long strip of plastic strapping, the kind you get on heavy cartons. He is dragging it, wrestling with it, and trying to chew it but it’s too tough.

I have (had) three foster kittens up in my guest bedroom for nearly two weeks now. Naturally they are adventurous and playful. Two mornings ago I went in and found a complete mess–I’d forgotten and left a box in there in which some item came all packed in long black paper ribbons, sort of like the ribbons in Easter baskets. I had saved it thinking it might be good for a Halloween decoration of some time. Well, naturally they found it and those black ribbons were strewn positively all over the whole floor! At first it looked like a ghoulish crime scene! And no way to really pick them up except by hand. Ugh! At least they didn’t try eating them!

Happy hump day! How did it get to be Wednesday?!? I’m in a pair of Mizensirs: Bois Iridescent on the left and Eau de Gingembre on the right. The BI is a beautiful citrus with iris, and the EdG is the ginger perfume I wished the Origins ginger had been. It’s not sweet, and not a winter ginger at all. I like both of them.

Not a layering! Orange Peel Cologne, which smells similar to Atelier Orange Sanguine but much simpler and even more linear, went poof in 2 hours. I put on Amouage Love Mimosa, and all was right with the world! The Love Mimosa was from a split Lucas organized and Undina and I each got 30mL!
