National Tea Day? You don’t say! Earlier this morning I put on some Bulgari Black, which is all dark smoky black tea saturated with vanilla, with unsettling overtones of black rubber and grimy leather, very fetishy. It’s my favourite Bulgari scent for sure.
Black is the only Bulgari scent I own. Nothing else stands out! But I never reach for it. The rubber note weirds me out. It didn’t used to, but now I can’t ignore it and enjoy the other elements of the scent.
It’s the only Bulgari that I have, too, but I still like it and do reach for it in cold weather.

I love Bulgari Black too, for exactly the same reasons. It’s so good and so weird. It lives in the same wheelhouse as Dzing!.

Strangely enough my favorite so far is the coffee tea!

There are some hit and some misses! I really wanted to love this oolong tea but the lime in the blend was too front and center and I felt like it would be good iced with alcohol 🙂
The other is a white tea, it just didn’t fit my pallet. I wanted more orange blossom. This is another that would be better iced me thinks

I just checked, apparently, Gap Grass was reissued last year but is not on Gap’s website.
Soooo, I looked on Fragrantica/Gap Grass, and a poster listed a dupe fragrance oil company, The Fragrance Shop, in N.C. She purchased Grass type and D & G (feminine) type, the combination is exactly a dupe for Gap Grass.
I ordered a sample of each and will report back!

Sotd is VCA Bois d’Iris. Fragrantica lists Driftwood as a note – I hadn’t noticed that before and look forward to smelling it unfold.

I’m having a PdE week. I recently unearthed the samples I bought years ago; not surprisingly, they’ve evaporated greatly. Eeeks! SOTD is Eau de Gloire.
eeeks is right. I’ve never had samples evaporate, but have had decants do that. Hate it when that happens before I can get to them.
These are spray samples that I bought directly from PdE; the vials are not fully transparent but I can tell how much (little) juice is left in them. It’s kinda my fault for not using them up in a timely fashion, but back then I was buying samples right and left — and then getting overwhelmed with them all…
Hey FearsMice! In answer to your question re: the computer I bought, it was the MacBook Pro with M1 chip. I got the 13” with 16GB memory and 1 Terabyte of storage. It’s a lot more computer than I really need but I wanted it to be flexible but also allow me to go for longer before having to replace it. I know buying computer these days is much easier but it is still an ordeal to have to transfer files, etc. I haven’t done the data transfer yet but will probably do it today. Surprisingly, I think I spent less this time around despite purchasing a more powerful laptop PLUS some accessories (mouse, CD reader, AppleCare, adapter for USB and Microsoft Office). I have an old version of Microsoft Office and hopefully I can get an upgraded code so I can return the one I just bought; however, I am into keep things simple and if just installing the new one saves me 1 hour of stress, it is worth it.
Ah, thanks, H.! It would certainly be nice to stress less over the decision. I was just looking at the new iPad Pro with M1 chip and it’s tempting… not sure I want to rely completely on a tablet and forego a laptop at home, though. Still muddling it over.

Coffee with cinnamon, vanilla soy milk, and a tsp of sugar this morning. I usually forgo the sugar, but I wanted it today. Tastes good.
Today is my mother’s birthday. I can’t go down to see her today, since I’m testifying to the Oregon House Ways and Means Committee this afternoon, but I will go down to see her tomorrow.
So, I’m baking cupcakes. Trying a new recipe–there’s a chocolate sheet cake recipe in one of my America’s Test Kitchen cookbooks. Their desserts are usually really delicious. Going to frost it with a Whipped Chocolate Cream Cheese frosting that I found online. Sounds yummy in my mind. Hope it turns out! I don’t have great luck with piping frostings, and I want it to be pretty.
Perhaps flower piping could become one of your new hobbies…?

Usually my soy milk is enough for me, but sometimes I need more. It’s not the sort of thing that causes me any stress or concern! Now, if I have to go without my coffee at all, that’s another matter!

1. Has anyone tried Mizensir or Atelier Materi? I am eyeing the discovery sets on LS. I have convinced myself that if I rehome old discovery sets I have earned the right to acquire more…yay for flawed logic! 😉
2. Any thoughts on Café Cabanel? I am on their email list and see they have a 30 ml bottle now but haven’t tried it.

I have tried a few Mizensir, nothing caught my fancy. I have the original Atelier Materi discovery kit with their first five scents, they are nicely done but the only one that really worked on me is Cuir d’Iris. They have two brand new scents including a narcissus one that I’d really like to try though. I own and love Café Cabanel, which I bought blind. Unfortunately it’s in San Diego and I’m not or I’d send you a sample. It smells like a sweet caffe latte to me.

The reviews for The Musc have got me very intrigued to try the scent, even if musks are usually something I seek out. I do like the price point for the line, and love that they come in travel sizes. I have Divine Vanille in the travel size.
I bought the discovery set when it first came out w/ 5 samples (I think) and didn’t include the vanilla and would be happy to send these your way if you’re in the U.S.

Scent: Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia, which I’m really enjoying. Fragrantica categorizes this as a Citrus Gourmand, which surprised me a little; the gourmand notes weren’t jumping out at first. Not a lot of sillage here, but I’m working from a small sample.

I’m wearing some from my sample of Perris Monte Carlo Tubereuse Absolue. I’m still slightly more fond of the Amouage one but this is also very good. In fact I ordered a bottle of the Amouage last night from Fragrance Net where they had a decent price. Can’t wait!
Still busy with my five foster cats. Including three precious kittens who specialize in knocking things over and climbing my bookshelves. Eek! Yesterday I took the two adults to the vet for health checks and vaccinations. They’ll get neutered later. Whew, expensive! Fortunately a friend is adopting the sweet boy and she paid for him. He gave me a very bad scratch on my leg the other day, unexpectedly when I was trying to shoo him into his room. The lady who rescued him said she thinks he was abused as he is terrified of mops and brooms. Poor guy. Now I’m checking my ankle to try to decide if I need to go to my doctor. I’m embarrassed because the last time I went it was for a cat bite and I ended up in the hospital. But I’ll go if I must.
Things are still difficult with my brother in the hospital and my mom’s mental and communication decline. I’m going to have to deal with insurance companies about finding her a specialist. I hate all this rigmarole.

I finally got a chance to try Perrin Monte Carlo. A generous NSTer sent me a little sample of the Arancia one. I would love to smell it on someone else, not sure if it’s too masculine for me. Have you tried?
Oh I loved it! It didn’t seem masculine at all to me. I would like more citrus in it.
It morphs into a very pretty cinnamon coffee mix. Gorgeous, but as Insaid, Imwish that Luscious orange would persist more.
I love that PMC Tuberose, so I think I need to try the Amouage? Is it the Love Tuberose?
Yes it is. It’s more soft and smooth with a vanilla creamy aspect.

I woke up this morning thinking about Kanuka and hoping that her treatment is working. I miss her posts about the flora and fauna of NZ. Today I’m wearing En Passant as Oakland Fresca reminded me that my bottle is not getting any younger. My shed was not delivered yesterday, for unknown reasons UPS decided today was better. I hope it arrives in daylight, they tend to deliver late to my area.

SOTD is Balenciaga Paris, I like the violet note. I rarely wear this but when I do I ask myself why I always forget it? It’s lovely.
A friend sent me some spring wagashi, so later today I’m having matcha and a sweet treat.

They were! Sakura cherry pink outer wrap with red bean paste inside. She sent my a small box I’ll have for several tea breaks. Once the box was opened I need to eat them within a week…that won’t be a problem. ?

We think the Wild One may have picked up kennel cough somewhere. She had a coughing episode last night that was pretty scary. We were ready to make the run to the emergency vet, and she was suddenly just fine. Doing all of her usual evening things. I slept in my clothes just in case, and put her bed right by my side of the bed. She coughed a little this morning, but is eating and acting fine. Talked to the vet, who didn’t have an opening today, but we’ll take her in tomorrow. What a night. ?

I’m wearing three sprays of Gris Charnel, from BDK perfumes, and loving it. I attended a Sniffa event last night, and I was impressed with all five of the samples we tested. I loved this one the best, I think, though I am going to give each one a thorough wearing over the next several days.
Has anybody else sampled from this house? The Gris Charnel is gorgeous. From their website, notes are: Fig, Black Tea, Cardamom Essence, Absolute of Iris, Bourbon Vetiver, Sandalwood from India, and Absolute of Tonka Bean.
I don’t get nearly as much fig as expected, which is good (fig notes don’t always agree with me), but the tea, cardamom and vetiver suit me down to the ground.

Let me know which of the scents is your favorite. I liked all of them — I thought they were very well done, had a lot of “heft,” definitely went through changes with time (that is, were not linear), and each provided a certain degree of uniqueness that I appreciated. The Creme De Cuir was surprisingly bright – I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this one.
They are well done and I bought the Tabac Rose which was not part of the set. The OsswaldNYC version had I think 10 perfumes (maybe 1 or 2 more) which I passed along to a perfumista friend.
My SOTD is Grand amour by Goutal. Wonderful. Went for a great walk in the woods behind my house and saw a fox. The weather is just so nice at the moment. Crisp mornings and around 17°C in the afternoon.
Love spotting foxes.

Spring for me means pulling out my old, trusty Annick Goutals. Today I’m in Le Chevrefeuille, yesterday I wore Eau de Camille, and Saturday I wore Ninfeo Mio when it was 80 degrees. I hadn’t worn the first two in over a year probably, so I was a little nervous because I know some older AGs can go off. But other than a little alcohol smell right after spraying Le Chevrefeuille, they’re in tact! I’ve got plenty of Camille but just about 30ml of LC, so I’ve just turned on eBay alerts in hopes of securing a back up bottle at some point.

Hump Day SOTD is Amouage Gold. Makes up for the combination of gusty winds, dust, and pollen that’s making me avoid the outdoors today despite the pleasant temperature. ? Bummer. There are only so many spring days here before it turns into a furnace out there.
Feeling very grateful to officially be fully vaccinated today. There’s a travel-size YSL Libre EDT on its way to me to celebrate—seemed like an appropriate choice.

From my bottleporn travel spray. I suppose I could have worn this last week too but divine intervention was more appropriate and still is. Woman in Gold is appropriate for all seasons and I picked this because She-Ra reminded me of it from our most recent swap!
Like Creosote, I am now considered fully vaccinated until I’m not. Who knows how long this will last and what kind of booster is necessary ??♀️. I will not be changing my behavior by much but feel a little freer. I will not be getting in a plane anytime soon and there’s really no reason for me to fly anywhere other than for leisure and that can absolutely wait.
In other news, I just turned off my heater yesterday but I will need to turn it back on again later. It is still nice and toasty inside but it will be near freezing later tonight. Just another manic April!

Congrats, vaccination twin!? And I feel exactly the same way you do. I’m a bit less freaked out about the possibility of infecting loved ones but in absolutely no hurry to get into a jet-powered disease-tube.

I feel the same about my vaccine. It’s not going to change my lifestyle but at least I can visit my mother without worrying so much.
That is true…there are some advantages.
Being vaccinated makes me feel much freer and eases my mind quite a bit. We won’t be flying much for vacation or anything, but I am going to visit an elderly aunt this weekend in Alabama and I know I will feel much better knowing I’m vaccinated on that airplane!
You are brave with the flying but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do! Have a nice visit with your elderly aunt – she’ll be so glad to see you.
