French niche line Jardins D’Écrivains has launched Zorba, a new unisex fragrance inspired by the hero of the Nikos Kazantzakis novel.
Between sea spray and scrubland floats the free and earthy spirit of Alexis Zorba.
The scent of wild plants from the Cretan hills provides the most complete change of scenery. Infused with solar energy, the temperament and radiance of this olfactory signature connects to the insatiable thirst for adventure.
The notes feature carob tree, marines notes, garrigue, sage, cyclamen, labdanum, castoreum, iris and moss.
Jardins D’Écrivains Zorba is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, €90.

Never heard of this niche line yet. Also I had my lil minis of Royal Rose Aoud yesterday and I was very curious about it. The rose opening is just that of bright, dewy, fire engine red roses. Beautiful. Just like I love my rose in perfume to be. And I am a huge sucker for roses or lavender and prefer them to be somewhat not burried in other floral notes as they are my favorite florals of all.
The oud (or aoud) heart and drydown accompanied by other subtle/spicy notes is very pleasant. It is not an overly sweet perfume making the ross notes very realistic. It is not however the longest lasting fragrance but it is easily forgiven because I leave that spot for my Ashoka and Tango. Them two last forever on me.
By the way Ashoka is my moat favorite perfume ever since I ordered it and I am just so curious about other ones from the Neela Vermeire line. I’m thinking Mohur Extrait has to be soooooo long lasting since regular EdP lasts forever… I should order some more Neela Vermeire samples…
And as far as “figgy” perfumes go I remember my first one like 15 years ago was L’Artisan Premier Figuier. It was somewhat similar to Philosykos – very green. The PF extreme was creamier, woodsier, spicier. I almost had mixed feelings because in humid FL weather it was almost “too much” of super sweet-spicy-creaminess. Ashoka is so perfect. It is like an olfactory song to my senses. It is creamy, figgy-milky, fresh at the same time, perfectly oriental-spicy while beeing very fresh at the same time. Not to mention that it lasts forever, has great silleage while never being too much. It is seriously not just the best figgy perfume, but my absolute favorite one of all.

I logged onto this announcement to see what folks thought a perfume named for Zorba should smell like. I probably read the Kazantzakis book 40 years ago, and have no recollection what Zorba ate or drank—but it just feels right that a perfume with his name should have notes of anise for the gallons of Ouzo and Raki that burned my throat making friends with the Greek students on campus and in town.
