Jo Malone Elderflower Cordial & Rose Blush ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 8 April 2021 23 Comments

Jo Malone will launch the limited edition The Brits: Marmalade Collection for Summer 2021. The set includes one relaunch (Blackberry & Bay) and four new fragrances (Elderflower Cordial, Orange Peel, Rose Blush, Tangy Rhubarb). Look for them later this month; so far I have descriptions of two, Elderflower Cordial and Rose Blush.

Inspired by the British love of jam making, our perfumers have created five unique fragrances celebrating the fruit flavors of the British pantry. To capture the vibrant scent of summer fruits, we’ve steam-distilled fruits and berries to extract its all-natural flavor and create these fine fragrances.

Elderflower Cordial ~ "Delicate elderflower buds harvested from the hedgerows on a cloudless morning. The soft, powdery appeal of these tiny white flowers inspire a very British recipe. Their floral notes are complemented by hawthorn and mixed with the tartness of summer-green gooseberries." (Note: this is quite possibly a relaunch or redo of 2013's Elderflower & Gooseberry.) Update: it is, in fact, a relaunch.

Rose Blush ~ "Delicate rose petals suspended in a delectable jelly. The charm of these blushing pink petals inspires a prized preserve. Vibrant basil and a juicy note of lychee add a modern twist to this pretty floral scent, cocooned in the comforting embrace of white musk." Update: Rose Blush was developed by perfumer Nicolas Bonneville:

We did a lot of work on the texture of Rose Blush, really trying to tease out that transparent jelly effect. This was quite challenging, because with most extracts of rose you get something a bit honeyed and even a bit spicy, which can translate as quite old-fashioned. We worked hard to make our rose petal-fresh and added a hint of basil leaf in the top notes for a green, herbaceous twist.

The Jo Malone Marmalade Collection fragrances will be available in 30 ml Cologne, and in a coffret with all 5 in a decorated tin. Elderflower Cordial and Rose Blush can be ordered now from Cos Bar, $74 each.

Is it horrible that I don’t even care what these smell like, I just want them for the bottles?

They are cute, and like them much better than the last Blossoms set.

Aargh, I agree even if I don’t want to… 🙂 The orange peel one sounds particularly attractive!

Same here! I have a face cream that smells like orange peel, and I always wish for a perfume.

Jo Malone and I generally don’t get on, but I’d love to find a true-to-life elderflower fragrance! I splash elderflower cordial and Ste. Germaine liquer in everything I can…

Same! I wish St Germaine would just make a fragrance and sell it in a smaller version of their regular bottle

I maybe just spent the last hour googling to see if Bacardi, which owns St Germaine, has ever commissioned or collaborated on a perfume. Looks like they did way back in the day, but not recently. They do, however, have a link for people to submit ideas on their corporate website, so we could just bombard them with this. 🙂

Oh, that would be awesome! I enjoy the elderflower note in Pink Molecule by Zarko Perfume.

The collection’s theme and bottle retro design appeals to me. It will be worth a trip to me to go to Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom and spray up my arms, and then smell them outdoors without a mask. Knowing myself I will get at least one.

Oh these look great… I love marmalade! My Mum had some of the old Keiller’s marmalade stoneware and ceramic jars. My parents were from Perth very close to Dundee where it was made. I’ll look out for the Orange Peel and Tangy Rhubarb! They have a very ‘homemade’ look to them – perhaps influenced by all the cooking we’ve been doing this past year?

These are so cute, though I was more interested when I thought they were part of a new series by CdG….

HA, yes. Then I’d have to order at least one unsniffed.
