Wednesday scent of the day 3/17

Posted by Robin on 17 March 2021 284 Comments

Happy Hump Day and happy Saint Patrick’s Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

Continuing on my current theme of Parfums de Nicolaï fragrances I should have bought when I had the chance, I'm in Kiss Me Tender.

Reminder: 3/19 will be Foody Friday...wear a gourmand or foody fragrance (this is a repeat project from 2015).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi Robin! Just happen to pop in today and read that you’re wearing KMT as your SOTD. You’ve inspired me to chose it as my scent of the day as well. I hope that you are well.

    Happy St. Patrick’s day! ☘

    Wearing Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise.

I am trying to stay awake on this cloudy, but at least warmer day. Taking my second cup of coffee earlier than usual didn’t help much, so I need to have a third one asap with a cinnamon raisin peanut butter and toast.

Had a busy day yesterday with a morning full of unnecessary meetings and then taking my mom to the first dose of the vaccine in the afternoon. I hadn’t seen her so excited in a long time and I felt so relieved and happy for her at the same time.
Today, it’s been a year since I started working from home. We were supposed to go back to the office…. 2 weeks later.  Latest talks from management indicate that we will return full time in May, with almost full capacity in the building.

I am expecting my full bottle of Boucheron Iris de Syracuse to be delivered today, so I will be posting the split on Saturday, if anyone is interested.

Have a safe and healthy day, everyone! ☘

I find a slight similarly in the drydown. Most of the scent is woody, creamy, lightly sweet and powdery.

So happy for you and your mom! To see your mother so happy brings more joy and peace in you, as well, I bet.
Meetings with the higher ups usually wasted a lot of precious time that I could have used working with kids, parents or taking classes that would have benefited my ability to be a better teacher all around. We always seemed to lose the exceptional ones. I hope my experience was the exception.

Mind if I ask your thoughts on the vanilla?

Thank you, Annie! We definitely feel more relaxed about mom’s vaccination. It has been very scary all this time to think that she could get seriously sick.

Regarding Vanille Exquise, it is a very soft vanilla scent with a nice almond note. It is slightly sweet and powdery. I love it because I cannot wear heavy, gourmand vanilla scents. It is very comfy and enjoyable. If you check the list I emailed you last night, you have it there. Just let me know! ?

I’m in vintage Estée Lauder Knowing parfum, back when it was lushly floral and thick with oakmoss, one of the great triumphs of eighties perfumery. (It’s a crime what’s being sold under that name today.)

I do love Knowing, it’s such a remarkable fragrance. Even though the reformulation isn’t the best, I think overall, Estee Lauder perfumes are still in better shape post-IFRA than many others..

For the most part, if you’d never smelled the originals, then yeah, the Lauder scents have been maintained pretty well compared to a lot of other houses. (The worst is debatable, but I think either Lutens or Dior.) We deranged oakmoss fans will never be satisfied with anything but the original, of course.

          Deranged is an apt description!
I can see it now, invasion of the Deranged Zombie Perfumistas, on the next Geraldo Rivera show. 😯

I’d add Guerlain and Chanel to the list.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Nobody cares if Britney Spears Curious gets reformulated (who would notice?), but when you tinker with a great work of art like No. 5 or Diorissimo, people get *angry*. It’s like painting a baseball cap on the Mona Lisa and insisting it’s the same as it always was.

      • lillyjo says:
        17 March 2021 at 12:28 pm

The last time I tried Cinnabar, I didn’t recognize it. The SA insisted it hadn’t been reformulated. She was a big liar! Lol

I think it’s her training. Reminds me of the time I asked a Wegmans worker if he would recommend pan frying crab cake vs baking. His answer was he can only recommend what’s in his training manual.

Now that’s ridiculous, and a cop out. For the record, frying them (or any fish cake) in a little oil in a nonstick skillet will be nice and flavorful.
Why can’t people just say they don’t know?!?

Yeah, the official party line is that no scent has ever been altered in any meaningful way. Here’s what LauderCorp has the nerve to say: “While there have been no significant changes made to our Estée Lauder SpellBound Eau de Parfum Spray, our experts have learned that when an individual uses predominantly one fragrance for an extended period of time, it’s possible that the wearer may perceive the fragrance to be different.” A vicious lie, as anyone who’s smelled the most recent version knows.

Pyramus, I’m with you: that quote: “While there have been no significant changes made to our Estée Lauder SpellBound Eau de Parfum Spray, our experts have learned that when an individual uses predominantly one fragrance for an extended period of time, it’s possible that the wearer may perceive the fragrance to be different.” I say: Oh that is so dumb!!! But I am firmly in the camp that EL’s classics are closer to the glory days than some Guerlains I’ve smelled; and, one will get something of the classic in the modern version. I’ve been testing Cinnabar vintage vs. old, and new Cinnabar is an eye-opener for perfume newbies.

Through this website Italki (hope its ok for me to post, I have no affiliation, just a student of language) https://www.italki.com/i/EbBEHD?hl=en-us is the link and you and I get credits if you decide to try it out.

I only know of the parfum for Coco Noir, and I don’t think there is a EdT. The EdP is ok, but not as good as the extrait. You know was is really lovely, the body cream in the big black jar. It’s so delicious. Amo!!

Good Morning everyone, my SOTD is Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Parfum, layered over the body oil. I’m wafting lots of spicy, patchouli, vanilla, goodness.

I had to laugh, I must be running in my sleep, my fitbit had recorded 136 steps before my feet hit the floor today! 😀

Coffee consumed, shoes on, I’m out the door!

I think Coco Mademoiselle is sweeter, not as spicy nor resinuous as the original Coco.
Vintage Coco is in the same family as the original Fendi and Teatro Alla Scala by Krizia.

      We are almost scent twins.
You smell wonderful….I owned the parfum back in the day of Coco Mslle and I really enjoyed it. How is the body oil? They discontinued this?
We are both smelling like spicy patchouli today…

SOTD: Natori — lovely plumy, rose with a sprinkle of aldehydes

It’s been awhile since I’ve worn this one and every time I do I think of ihadanidea who loved this and used to post regularly on here.

I think I’m done with birthdays for a while. It’s been a few weeks of lots of mailings and card writing and one lost package 🙁
March is the one month when I just happen to have a huge number of family and friends born not to mention a baby shower to add to the mix.

Ihadanidea and I bonded over a shared love of Natori. I still have an unopened back up bottle. Oddly, I’ve gone anosmic to the current bottle, and it used to seem so strong! In any case, you smell really good.

Feeling a bit icky this morning so I’m currently commando, but I’ll probably put on some No.19 EDP later in the spirit of wearing something green.

Thank you for all your kind comments yesterday; y’all continue to be the nicest people I know. 🙂 I’ve been trying to sort myself out, and I think that the warming weather and springing springtime and the encouraging vaccine news, while all wonderful and bright, has provoked a kind of contrary heaviness in me — all the optimism and newness and promise of the future making me realize that my own landscape and future feel so empty. Like there’s now the option to have things to look forward to, but I can’t find anything to look forward to. I suppose I’m still getting used to single-motherhood, and the daily overwhelm seems to crush and displace everything. Probably all totally normal, given the circumstances.

At any rate, thank you for the hugs and encouragement. What a wonderful community this is!

I’ve been there—a rebirth all around puts the pain in sharper relief. I hope you are able to care for yourself some as you’re caring for others.

And maybe No 19 will make the day just a touch better!

Wasn’t on forum yesterday to comment – but here is an extra hug from me! The phenomenon you are describing is not unusual (from what I have read and experienced). Suicide rates are higher during summer months (to the surprise of many). Feeling out of kilter with an outside world which seems increasingly bright and joyous can be an anxiety and despair provoking experience. It feels isolating but take some consolation in that you are CERTAINLY not alone in this. ???

Thank you for this context and understanding! I once read that unhappiness is a measure of the distance between what one has and what one wants; it probably follows that the distance between what one is experiencing and what one’s peers appear to be experiencing can be likewise provoking.

sorry to hear this, I didn’t read your post from yesterday but No 19 sounds like a nice way to bring in the day.

This weekend my family and I celebrate Norooz. I am not Persian, but an honorary Persian 😉 One of the things that I love about the holiday is letting go over the past year and starting anew, letting go of old habits and thoughts that don’t serve you any purpose, sometimes you wear new clothes, cook with herbs to signify rebirth and rejuvenation. Clean your home so the home refreshed. The reason I am explaining all of this is that if you need something to look forward to, you can welcome spring into your home. Buy flowers and fresh herbs, take in more daylight. I don’t have much to look forward to these days also but preparing for Norooz has given me something to contemplate in my own mind.

I can’t wait to get my herb garden cranking for the year! I grow parsley, basil, angelica, marjoram, chives, oregano, hummingbird sage, anise hyssop, lemon balm, and various others just outside my back door, and it’s so glorious when it’s all thriving and blooming and filled with hummy bees!

You are definitely not alone in having some mixed feelings as spring is coming and some people are better able to feel/see a light at the end of their own tunnels already.

Even if feeling overwhelmed and numbed is totally normal under the circumstances, it still sucks! I’m so glad you have an outlet to express some of that here, and please know that you are worth of love, self-esteem and a bright future – even if you can’t visualize it yet. Sending hugs!

Chanel Allure Homme Édition Blanche today. I’ve read comments on Fragrantica that it smells like lemon pie, but it isn’t nearly that sweet for me. I find it a green lemon and thus, perfect for today (see what I did there? I’m wearing green!). Happy St. Patrick’s Day. I’ve got a mix of Irish and Scottish in me, but I never do anything terribly appropriate for dinner. Maybe someday.

Chanel Coco Mad Intense from a sample. At first spray, it smelled alarmingly Angel-ish, but it has calmed down and smells quite nice. Lots of tonka. Not really “me” but very nice.

Our school’s Key Club, which I co-advise, planned “thank you” Zoom messages for all of the teachers for today, and even though I was expecting it, I still got choked up when my 4th period class “delivered mine. And I thanked them right back; I’m lucky to teach such great kids, even in awful circumstances.

About to take a shower to wash off the reformulated MKK. Will probably switch to either vintage no 19 or go with vintage Mitsouko. Just got to figure out what time I want to start the corned beef.

Hey all! Do you like my new gravatar? That’s my dog when she was just a puppy. She’s over a year old now, but hasn’t gotten much bigger! She’s a chihuahua mix sweetheart.

I’m thunking an old sample of DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense. I guess that fits the foodie theme this week, green apples and all. It’s boring. I’ll wear something else after I take a shower.

I bit the bullet and bought a bottle of Chanel no. 19 EdT on the Chanel site last night. I was surprised they only had 100ml bottles–you’d expect that the motherland would offer every variation and every size possible, but no. Oh well, more for me!

You get to choose from all kinds of locations to vote, mostly school buildings or offices. But i never visited this mosque. So here was my chance.
No sotd yet, but i am considering something with lots of jasmine

Usually I go to the nearest school ?, but i think this location was added this year.

And this year there was an online map where you could see how busy it was at all the locations. Mostly becauss of covid i guess (to avoid crowds), but also handy for those with little time / in a hurry ?

I also perceived them as chunks of feta cheese, and was surprised that Robin was joining in the (apparent) craze for feta pasta from TikTok. Ha ha, then I started to wonder whether there really is a perfume that smells like feta? And was initially shocked but gave it some second thoughts and said to myself, “Well, why not? Might be nice!” Lol!

Tried to get something green for St Patty’s, and gourmand for the CP, and ended up with Arielle Shoshanna Sunday. It’s not really that green, but there’s a matcha note contributing to the sweet milk tea vibe.

Now that our trip down south to scope stuff out/lock down a place to live is getting closer, I’m thinking about what fragrances to bring…something comforting? A favorite? A pile of samples to play around with? Decisions, decisions.

Of all the food making things I’ve tried, I tried making marshmallows. It was a fail – all the gelatin ended up on the bottom. I attributed it to not beating it enough.

    In Absolute Aphrodisiac today.

I ordered a sample pack from A Lab on Fire and tried Freckled and Beautiful and A Blvd. Called Sunset yesterday afternoon.

F and B was buttered popcorn and sweet flowers at first but improved as it wore…found the buttery opening off-putting but the drydown was fairly normal gourmand.

ABCS was a violet leather w/ Iso E in the drydown. I like violet but not usually a fan of strong leather.

Wasn’t wowed by either and I thought about Kevin’s article on samples, cost and disappointment. ehaeheh I also placed a Luckyscent order over the weekend so more samples are incoming! Vanilla Quest continues, friends! 🙂

In green today with Aura edp layered with the body cream. I am in a bakery-cafe eating a tart rhubarb tort with the smell of baking vanilla cakes all around me. I selected this because I am about to attain a thunk with the jar of body cream. However, I got a bonus from Mugler USA: a free jar of Aura body cream! Mugler is the only company or store I’ve dealt with in recent years that sends really nice premiums. No affiliation, and Aura is by no means my signature, but I appreciate that they reach out to the customers.

Fearing some early sign of COVID, I went around the house madly sniffing at things. Seems I can still smell. Very weird. The cat thought it was great fun run around with me, watching me sniffing in closets and cabinets.

Happy St. Patrick’s day! I could do the Irish greeting, but I don’t know how to spell it.
The annual St. Patrick’s day party that we go to was the first cancelled party one year ago – but we are actually back on tonight, with a much smaller group of mostly/all vaccinated people, and outside. I am so excited and will wear my daughter’s green down jacket, I guess. Gotta practice my repertoire – I do a song about Ellis island that my Irish husband dislikes immensely, but it is a favorite with the rest of the crowd. I’ve already been belting it out a few times, for practice…. 🙂 If we’re even singing. I might wear a mask for that.

I’m wearing St Clair Scents First Cut. She posted something on IG yesterday about yuzu marmalade, raving about it, and mentioned there that First Cut has a yuzu opening note. I had not particularly noticed that before–just the cut hay, which seems quite dominant to me, so I wanted to go back and re-check, and sure enough, there it is.
Today I went and got my second dose of vaccine–hurray! My arm is already sore. The nurse today didn’t seem as careful or skilled as the nurse the first time around.
I spent over five hours on the phone yesterday either talking with or about a friend, former student, who is involved in a situation worthy of a convoluted murder mystery/thriller. She is afraid of being murdered and wanted people to know what’s been going on, and it’s very creepy indeed. The police seem to adopt the attitude of “well we can’t do anything until something happens.” I spoke to a lawyer friend who offered free general advice (we neither one of us mentioned any specifics) and I passed that on, and hope it has helped. Still quite concerned though.

SotD some Bal à Versailles parfum de toilette. Not gourmand, but it was what I was in the mood for!

On my way back to Toronto and already missing Mr. Teebear and the cats, but NOT missing the chaos he makes when I’m not around ?

When I got home he had every. single. kitchen cabinet door hanging open. How?!

But he did make some Buddhist feast with egg tofu while I was home, and that dish wipes out a heinous number of minor offenses to my sense of organization.

In addition to it being St. Patrick’s Day, for me it was also Cleaning Day. Got a load of dishes done plus I washed the bedspread. (And oh boy it needed to be washed. ?)

Today’s picture kind of looks like handmade soap to me. But I have had marshmallows like those before, and wow, were they good!

SOTD = back in Poison Girl EdP. I have the EdT as well and should do a side by side sniff one of these days.

I thought about putting off today’s wash, but decided I’d done that long enough. Besides, there’s always more loads of laundry to do, isn’t there?

I prefer the edt. I think it has more of the orange opening and less of the ambroxan drydown.

Interesting. I don’t get any ambroxan in either of the Girls. Not sure how sensitive (or not) I am to that aromachemical.

I’m hyper sensitive to it. I mainly smell it in the edp.

Late again. Work has been crazy with people spending this stimulus plus getting tax refunds. Also we are so very short staffed. I only wore some body lotion today. BBW black coconut sands or some such. I was going to layer it with a perfume but couldn’t think if I had a coconut perfume. Does anyone know if I do? Lol!

ELDO’s Fils de Dieu has a hint of coconut in it. Do you have a sample of that?

And Pacifica has a coconut perfume. I’ve seen it at Target every so often.

Not necessarily coconut, but Bronze Goddess sometimes has a coconutty undertone on me.

I believe Terracotta has a bit of coconut.

Late to the party but wore Chopard Casmir, I always enjoy its vanilla, amber and patchouli charm and a little dab will do ya.
