Liking the smell of this Greek anise-flavored liquor called ouzo

Posted by Robin on 9 March 2021 3 Comments

I love the scent of fennel, anise, and licorice; I think that’s really good. I remember when I was in high school, liking the smell of this Greek anise-flavored liquor called ouzo.

More for Matthew Herman then. I had it when I was in Turkey and it just about burnt a trail of holes from my esophagus to my stomach ?. Maybe I drank too quickly?

I don’t know! Might depend on the alcohol content and I don’t know enough about ouzo to know how much it varies. I have usually had it diluted with ice and water, like pastis.

If it was clear rather than milky/cloudy when you drank it, you were probably drinking it straight.

It was milky / cloudy and it’s called Raki. Perhaps it is not ouzo after all but it is definitely a Greek drink.
