Lazy weekend poll ~ stepping back from the edge, episode 9

Posted by Robin on 16 January 2021 346 Comments

Crater Lake

Our ninth annual 'stepping back' poll: can this group of shameless enablers help each other not buy perfume? Let's find out.

Name a perfume you've been itching to buy but suspect you might not need, and tell us why you think it might not really be a good use of your money. Maybe everyone will talk you out of it. Or, maybe not so much.

If you participated in this poll last year, tell us if you ended up buying the fragrance anyway!

Chanel No 19 Poudre. I love 19, I have not sampled Poudre. I feel like I will like it and ‘must’ have it. I also fear it will be discontinued and then what?! (They’ve discontinued!!! No 19 parfum in Germany although you can still get it via the .fr website)

I’m no help. It’s a (relatively) cheap thrill (if you compare to the Les Exclusifs, Malles, MFKs, etc. of the world).

Giving it a try: I love No. 19 but found the Poudre fairly ho-hum. It wouldn’t be a bay buy, but maybe you could earmark the funds to save for something you want but think is expensive.

so they’re not really “related”? not 19 with a different facet brought to the fore?

They are related, the Poudre being unsurprisingly very powdery, and more like the modern perfume style. Up to you…

I have n19 and was hesitating between the two for a long time. They are quite different. Poudre has an amazing iris (while it lasts) over a sweet base as opposed to the biting green iris-y elegant fragrance that is n19. In the end I went for n19 but whenever I see Poudre think about getting it.. it’s so beautiful that I could forgive that it does not last.

No. 19 Poudre and No. 19 are different. The Poudre is a rather pretty, close-to-the-skin scent. No. 19 EdT is a calming green scent (for me).

I’m not thinking of buying anything right now, so no need to talk me out of it.

However, last night I was thinking wistfully about the two perfumes that I sampled, loved, put on my “to buy” list and then didn’t act before they were discontinued. (Balmain’s Amber Gris and Antonia’s Flowers Tiempe Passate.). So if you’re in love with something you sampled and want to add to your collection, I
    say “go for it!”.

My SOTD is Hanami by Phlur.

Like you, I adored the Balmain, had a sample, used it up, almost bought a bottle repeatedly from one of the discounters, and then…. gone. Poof. Just vanished, couldn’t be had anywhere for a reasonable sum.

But I decided, well, I have a kajillion other scents, I don’t need it, and I moved on. (I can’t even remember what it smelled like, to be honest.) But it looks like you’re getting a bottle, and congratulations!

    Ciao a tutti (hello everyone)
SOTD is Basil Neroli by Jo Malone. My friend gave me the rest of her bottle of this one, it has a few more sprays left in it. Do I need a fb of this? Don’t know. But its a nice break from my heavy hitters like Shalimar and some Chanels I own.

Reading the Crooked Kingdom, this YA series, also Andre Aciman’s new book of essays, and also to my kids The Witches and the first book of the Harry Potter series.

I am sticking to learning Italian and now added Arabic. I was describing to my girlfriend today at the farmers market my second Arabic class when the teacher was trying to get my to pronounce the “gh” sound and she kept yelling “use the back of your throat and go deeper! Gurgle! Deeper! No! That is “Kh” sound! Go Deeper” as I am trying to make the sound. My girlfriend just looked at me and said “I hope your neighbors don’t hear this” She is always so cheeky with me. I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants at the market.

Too funny! I don’t know how you could learn two languages at once. My brain would get far too muddled. I still start coming up with Chinese (my 2nd and strongest foreign language) if I try too hard to come up with some French (the 1st).

I think I feel comfortable because they are both so different.
I have been studying Italian for awhile and feel a strong connection to that language. Its so musical and beautiful.

I tried French but got too frustrated.

When I started learning Latin in high school, I’d pronounce words with a French accent, since I’d taken a couple of years of French previously. When I try to think of words in Spanish to try to express something to folks with Spanish as their first language, I only come up with French words.

Remembering how to read French comes in handy for a few things, though. Beside the obvious for NST folks, if I’m out shopping and looking at packages of ingredients needed for making a Vietnamese meal, the package often has French as the second language on it, so I know whether it’s what I’m looking for. A holdover from colonialism, but having the second language on a can or bag of food be in French or English when I don’t know the lettering system for the first language is convenient for me.

Hooray for learning Arabic. I don’t know a word…or at least I don’t think I do. Have you heard of Duolingo? It is a free online language learning site. It’s on my list of “what to do next”.

I love Duolingo, and have used it for more than three years. I use it mainly for Italian (since I have not found a teacher!), but also for Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic). I occasionally check out the Russian lessons because I want my students to use it.

They’ve introduced some terrific new features, although not all languages have all features. My husband and I both love the stories, but of the languages I do, only Italian has them — and I have been hoarding my last four because I do not want them to end. I have not used the Premium (paid) version.

I also tried Swedish on Duolingo and…wow, is it hard. I find Gaeilge much, much more accessible — and that is hard enough.

Fully online, someone for conversation practice and to push me to read in Italian and to work more methodically on grammar. I got to about to the end of level B1, but that was in 2013 — and because I had a random rotation of teachers there are many gaps in my knowledge. And my speaking is horribly rusty.

Crooked Kingdom is good read. In other exciting YA news, Kristin Cashore is releasing a new book on Tuesday that is a sequel to Bitter Blue! And I commend you on your language skills. I had a fair amount of High School French and all that I have really gained from that was the ability to pronounce perfume names correctly, mostly.

There is nothing massive itching at me right now.

I do plan on buying Musk Deer, but am waiting for it to come back in stock at my local perfumer, so I can support them.

I also just bought 2 bottles from PdE (enabler points to hajusuuri for sharing a 20% off code from Beautyhabit). 20% off? How could I not. Ambre Russe and Wazamba.

I staved off the need for 2 bottles of Les Indemodables by buying 2 decants at reasonable prices.

So, holding the bottle greed at bay. Now I just have to work through the samples horde to find the next thing to obsess over.

Oh! The perfume discontinuation anxiety is real. I had a nightmare last night that Zoologist Bee was discontinued and out of stock everywhere. I haven’t even smelled Bee yet! And, I don’t always like honey notes. Very strange one for me to dream about.

Ok! Off to make my first cup of coffee off the day.

I got the impression from Kevin’s review of Bee that it was mainstream and safe, but u say it has a urine-y note?? I quite like the urinous facet of honey notes, like the one in A la Nuit and and the rose-honey in Absolue Pour Le Soir, so I’m gonna try out Bee now, thanks to u, u enabler!! ?

It wasn’t a scrubber for me, and I guess it could generally be described as pleasant, but “safe” is definitely in the nose of the beholder.

Would I be afraid to go into a crowded room (in non-COVID, non-distanced, non-masked times) for fear of offending? No. Will I ever wear this again? Also a no.

I just don’t enjoy that note. But if you do, give it a go!

Haven’t tried the other two scents you mention, so can’t compare. Bangale Rouge was another “gets a lot of love” scent that I had to reject due to honey note. But I like and own Chergui which I see listed as having a significant honey note, so ?‍♀️.

If you don’t mind sharing, which are your favorites, which two did you end up buying and where did you find the decants?
I’m in the process of testing all of them, so far tested four and I am, if not in love, at least very pleasantly surprised/intrigued by them.

I haven’t sniffed Vanille Havane yet, they didn’t have samples when I ordered. But I think I’ve sampled all their others.

Musc des Sables and Iris Perle were my favorites (and the ones I got decants of). Several others were likes and/or I need to spend more time sampling.

There was one person on the bay selling 9ml decants at a reasonable rate (given the retail price per bottle). They’re a match for the samples I got from Indigo (which retails Les Indemodables).

If I were to do a FB, it would be Musc des Sables. Not really like anything else I have.

Thanks! I’ve been wearing Musc des Sables for the past few hours and it’s my favorite so far. I would agree that it’s not similar to anything else in my collection. Lasting power is not great (with 2 large smears from the vial) but I got about 3.5-4 hours of enjoyment out of it.

I just recently pulled the plug and ordered Musk Deer from the Zoologist site. I’m hoping maybe Victor will stick in a sample of Snowy Owl? He’s included newer scent samples in the past. that’s why I ordered from them directly rather than Luckyscent. No one locally is carrying Zoologist yet here. My order is already being shipped, I got a tracking # for it. Yay! Can’t wait to get it.

Too late! ehaeheh I ordered Vanille and Magnolia from Fragonard yesterday and both are blind buys.?

Vanille is a 2020 release that Beautyhabit doesn’t seem to carry and I had just signed up to get Fragonard’s emails and they had a bunch of gifts with purchases w/ code PF21. No affiliation. First perfume purchase of 2021…what a relief!?! 😉

Right now, I am not itching to buy anything. I have recently being in a incense kick, so I was just thinking a couple of days ago about getting a back up bottle of Montale Full Incense. But I bought a 100ml bottle two months ago, so I can’t really justify another 100ml. I am ok for now!

If you like the smell of catholic church incense, I highly recommend it. It is very similar to CdG Avignon, but I find it more relaxing and inviting.

LOL that you just got 100mls and liked it and now want to buy it again. I can relate, PL67!!!! But I truly was *strengthened* by articles here about how long a bottle of perfume lasts. In the last year, I have at least gotten over backup mania. I know this is not specific. I am thinking the question over…

I know! I was crazy! LOL! I thought about offering half of the bottle on the next splitmeet, but that’s not going to happen. I finished my decant few day ago and I am ready now to open the bottle and start using it. I am deeply love with the scent, but I am sure I will never finish it. Still, I hope it doesn’t get discontinued, just in case…. ?

Stay strong! Says this weak person here. But you’ll probably be able to find out ahead of time if your Montale will get or has been discontinued before it disappears, given the online chatter about such issues. I’ve noticed that when there is a sudden surge of a certain fragrance at the online discounters, it is because it is in the process of being discontinued.

Now if you used perfume like CM8 does, I’d say that a BUB of Montale Full Incense would make perfect sense.

Definitely not! I only overspray when a perfume is very fleeting, Full Incense doesn’t fall into that category. I was more concerned about discontinuation than finishing the bottle quickly.

It was actually in one of the original blue glass bottles, which is probably an indication I’ve had it for a very long time! I have a Bath and Body Works perfume in an aluminum bottle that’s still good, and that has to be at LEAST 25 years old.

There’s a few things on my wish list, but aside from ordering myself a fragrant birthday present, I’m not going to do anything about it. I find that if I let something sit on my list long enough I no longer want it, so that’s the approach I’m using for this year’s no buy.

Today I’m wearing Nobile 1942 Café Chantant.

Conversely, if I have something on a wish list, and I’m still thinking about it months later, that’s a bit of a signal that it isn’t just a passing fancy. And especially during this depressing pandemic, if one’s budget allows for a little treat, I say get it. I haven’t had my hair or nails done since March, we don’t go out at all, I work from home so no commuting costs, we’re doing a Sober January so not buying any wine, yadda yadda, so I don’t feel too bad if I give in to the urge for something I’ve wanted for a long time, if it isn’t very expensive. For the same reason, I’ve been treating my kids and myself more often to Starbucks, which often seems like an indulgence.

I’m in Heretic Scandalwood. Yum. I want this. Yummy sandalwood with coriander and rose. I don’t usually like rose (sorry) but in this combination it is just right. Kind of like Goldilocks and the three bears. Lol. Hey! I think I just came up with a combo for this week’s cp.? Also, it comes in a travel spray which is practically perfumemath free.
Looking at last year’s poll, I was hankering for full bottles of 10CC and the original formula of Eau Premiere. I ended up getting bottles of both! No regrets, I reach for them both often and they are true perfume loves. I think they were my only fb purchases of 2020.
This afternoon I’m planning on making a big batch of chili and hot wings for the game. The girls and I ReALLy need to take down our tree today. Sad to see it go, but then we can dig out some valentine decorations.❤️

Today I am wearing Mon Ame from 1907, a decadent orris scent.

On the other note, my new wool sweater in gorgeous bottle green color has arrived and the timing is perfect because we’re expecting -16°C at night! Brrr.

    Hi all!

I’m a horrible influence, so it’s taking all of my energy to go down each comment and say, “Maybe you don’t need it. But you should still get it!” ?

I’ve been very good and only bought one of the three perfumes I’m zeroing in on: a bottle of Rose Cut on eBay had to be snapped up! (Now I just need a bottle of Cuir de Nacre, oh what a leather!)

Otherwise I truly think I would have had a no buy month. The others I might have to confess to in March, but I’m trying to space things out a bit in 2021. I don’t want to lose sight of all the lovely perfume I’m collecting.

I’m wearing Shalimar Parfum Initial today. Lovely details but perhaps not necessary. Still I enjoy it more than the other Coco Madamoiselle kin so I’m glad I have a small bottle.

    Stay safe everyone!

That’s funny, I remember Rose Cut being talked about a lot when I started commenting here in 2017, but it doesn’t get much love anymore. It is beautiful, though, and I’m glad you found a bottle of it!

I hear you! The line was so well done but I think it got drowned out, especially when they were discontinued. Too many releases every day ….

Rose Cut is exactly my kind of rose though. Another off my wishlist!

Two stepping backs came to mind: first, Madonna Truth or Dare. I hovered over it many times, but last week was rescued by Koyel’s kind freebie. I love it and will use the rollerball and lotion, but with my Fracas back-up and a Mahora, I think I can bide my time and sample other tuberose Divas. Second one is La Myrrhe. I have a variety of Serge Lutens in the 50ml bottles. I sorta kinda would like to have a bell jar just ’cause, but truly don’t think I would enjoy any Lutens some nth degree more than the ones I have now, if that makes sense. If I ever go to Paris, it is a different story. 🙂

Decisions Decisions is a new tuberose from Imaginary Authors. I have a sample which I haven’t tried and who knows when I will. With that said, Fragrantica reviews are all over the place! If you are, uh, thinking of getting IA stuff sometime in the future, you can probably ask for it as a free sample. Also, you can get a chance to go from 0 to 50mLs via IG @aroundtheunknown

      Yes! Yes Yes to Coco.
I adore Coco. It’s edp over edt for me because of that decadent dry down. The start is more spicy and sparkling in the edt though and I enjoy that too. But it’s that drydown that I love Coco for. Plus it comes in 35ml bottles, so there’s that if you don’t feel like major commitment.

Wearing LO Nerotic again today and I think I am going to need a bottle of this, and don’t want talking down! It’s got a really lovely not to sweet berry note on top of something warm and leathery that is perfect for the rainy overcast days we have been having. Speaking of snarky perfume forums, someone on Basenotes gave it a thumbs down saying it was “good” but “too many synthetics.” I am not even sure what that means. Some aromachemicals give me headaches, but no headache here, so I am just going to go with the “good.” LOL.

My temptation is Bombay Bling…with the decanter sites charging $60/5ml it’s much smarter to just get the 15mlx2 for 125 at luckyscent. I’ve already gone through a decant last year so I know I’ll wear it……

    But do I NEED it?

Absolutely get it and if you wish to assuage your guilt, but really should not be any, you can offer the 2nd travel spray as a split. Also, I think you can get 3 “free” samples or a gift w/ purchase but you would have to pay for shipping.

Having already drained a decant is a good sign. How often would you wear it do you think?

When I am in the honeymoon stage w/ a new fragrance…I feel the need to possess a FB but once I have the FB in hand how often will I wear it?…this what I try imagine/think about now w/ limited success before I buy more of something. And then of course other perfume samples somehow worm their way into my home and upset the whole apple cart of desire. ??♥️ 😉

I’m trying to step back from a 30ml bottle of Barrios B683. It’s still in my basket. I first tried it in mid-2019 and haven’t been able to forget about it! It’s the kind suede/spiced/amber thing I love. It’s $115, so it’s kinda doable in a birthday gift sort of way, but we’re really trying to be careful of our pennies right now.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good dupe of this one?
Is anyone bored with their bottle of B683 and looking to swap?

I’m in C&E Kashmir Musk and LM Amber Vanille body creme today after my shower. Need to get out in this pretty weather and walk myself and the Wild One. ?

My itches are Memo Winter Palace and Histoires de Parfums 1804, but given that I’m still feeling a bit sheepish about my 4th-quarter indulgences, I am pretty content to not buy for now.

SOTD is Sì (Armani), from a sample. I remember not thinking much of it, but I am really enjoying it today. It seems to share some DNA with 1804c in fact.

Am wearing another newly mended sweater, this one Shetland wool in a more-blue-than-green deep teal that looks shockingly good on me now that my hair is back to its natural color. The sweater itself is 40 years old — I remember going to Hutzler’s in Baltimore (the old store in Towson — this was pre “palace,” for those of you who know the area) with my dad and helping him pick it out for my mother as a Christmas gift. I mended four moth holes yesterday and have found three more tiny ones today while wearing it, and it’s a little small for me, but I am really happy with it as a weekend-around-the-house sweater.

I’ve been lusting after the Les Indemodables discovery set for awhile. It’s gone in and out of stock on Luckyscent a few times, and I’ve resisted. The latest iteration seems pricier than I remember, it’s now $50 for 10x3ml.

I generally struggle with discovery sets and samples. I quite enjoy sampling and trying new things, and they are not a huge commitment. But they can really add up, and I cringe when I see how much I’ve spent on them over the years!

No SOTD yet but I will decide soon. The sun and warmer than usual weather is throwing me off.

I have been really wanting Killian Angel’s share, but it looks like it is sold out everywhere, so I might be OK 🙂 The other one that I am really listing after is Jicky Parfum concentration.

I have Angel’s Share and LOVE the bottle. The perfume is very pretty but is a bit fleeting. I find myself reapplying it quite frequently. If I ever have another evening out on the town (which is a big if!) I wouldn’t choose AS to wear. I’d want something with more sillage/impact, that says ‘I don’t just smell like a fabulous single malt when you get very close to my wrists and inhale deeply, but you know I’m a smooth scotch from across the room.’ ???

Today I finally got to try Black Orchid Parfum at the big Sephora. They sprayed the back of my hand from about 3 feet away, and it is lovely. I have the edp in a sample, but I really want the Parfum travel spray. I’m thinking about getting it if a Valentine’s sale comes up. I really don’t want to wait for the Sephora spring sale, because I imagine I will want something else by then, lol.
I also tried MMM Replica Bubble Bath. It does not smell like bubble bath, it smells like ambroxan bath.

Ulta carries the parfum travel spray. If I remember right, they have a fragrance sale for Valentine’s Day. Now if there are exclusions, that will stink…

Thanks for the MMM report; I will steer clear of that one!

Lol, ambroxan bath sounds just as bad as the ambroxan bomb I had earlier this week. I haven’t had luck with any of the Replica’s, they all seem to drydown to that ambroxan base. I really liked whispers in the library and even got a travel spray and then after the first wearing, nope, brought it right back to return because of that drydown.

I just don’t understand why perfumers are doing this with the ambroxan. It makes everything smell the same, regardless of other notes. The bubble bath didn’t even wait for the drydown, it came out right away.

Laudano Nero and Ambra Aurea have both been on my list for a while. Last time I was in TRW sniffing frags, I wound up picking Bois Sacre (Arte Profumi) when I intended to get the AA. . . There’s a bottle on evilbay of the LN at less than half the regular retail price, but I am wondering now if my stunning bottle of Bois Sacre already fills that spot in my heart. Only you, dear readers here, will understand this ridiculous conundrum!

I’m in Le Lion at the moment, which I quite like but do not need an fb.

SOTD = Maya Njie x Scent Trunk

It is an Original Edition with treemoss as the focus ingredient. As I describe it. It smells like walking in a forest after an overnight rain in the fall. ?

However, I did find various goodies at LUSH online. And listings for things that were 50% off and out of stock online, but still in stock at the King of Prussia store. I don’t think I feel that ambitious, but perhaps I’ll get a sudden burst of extreme ambition.

Forgot to add: I’ve only been in the little local mall here a few times after it reopened, and that’s the mall with the Boscov’s department store that had a little display stand of the Demeter Fragrance library colognes last year at this time. I may get ambitious enough in the next couple of weeks to look and see if they still have the bottles of Demeter fragrances.

Also, I like the scent of anise quite a lot. 🙂 Which might explain some things.

Scent for church: Gabrielle Essence. Very sunny out there, chilly but will will warm up to a nice extent (for winter).

Will be good to get out…my only foray yesterday was to grocery. Then it was NWF…nuthin’ but football. Good news is…the two teams I wanted to win did win. But…my husband suffers in these games. At some point the inevitable “we’re gonna lose” is spoken. I’ve come to consider that a good talisman. (And I enjoyed two former Cal Bears (my college team) playing each other at such a level. Too bad one had to lose.)

Hey! Fellow Cal Bear-er here! My husband pointed out this match-up to me yesterday, and I chuckled to think the “old guy” won. It still astonishes me that Cal has produced quite some great NFL players, considering that their program has been far from stellar for a long time now.

The last couple of days I have been loving Etro’s Patchouli. Strange because I had found something about it very off-putting before. Then I discovered that it really layered well with some other scents – and then that it complemented some scents when worn at the same time. And now I suddenly just cant get enough of it.

On the want list: I really want to test Berdoues Maasai Mara. It’s actually sold very nearby but this particular shop has stopped the use of any testers due to covid. It’s strange because in other shops one just has to ask an SA. However, I’m not against more rigorous standards! When it’s safe to venture out again I’ll hopefully get to try this!

Encre Noire Sport: I’ve been waiting forever for this and the extreme to be well discounted but in my country they have not dropped much. I REALLY do not need ANOTHER vetiver. In fact I already have EN original. HOWEVER, I do think this one is much easier to wear. And can one ever have too many vetivers??? Plus – those bottles are gooorgeous.

Molton Brown’s Milk Musk: tried this in December and loved it. A cosy clean sweet radiant musk. Enough said.

Fortunately I’m now too preoccupied with the Etro to actually buy anything else. Hopefully the mood lasts 😀

I’m not opposed to more rigorous standards either when they make sense. But I don’t really understand why having someone disinfect the bottle wouldn’t be enough. You can’t catch COVID from the perfume…

I’ve been wiping down my cart pre-COVID, unmasked (!) so God only knows what kind of germs I’ve been breathing in all that time. Same thing with hand sanitizers but I use them more now than before and I only use my own these days unless the hand sanitizer is dispensed by motion / infrared. I made the mistake of using a store’s hand sanitizer and lordie lordie my hands stunk to high heaven and I ended up masking it with my own hand sanitizer.

So here is the counterpoint. If you really love it, get it! I will list my perfume regrets right here. Unum LAVS, which has only gone up in price. Should have bought it when it first came out. Auphorie Miyako which is now $298 per bottle and I balked at $150 when it first came out. I am currently trying out other osmanthus centric fragrances since it now seems forever out of reach. Coming to love L’Artisan after they were all reformulated and do not produce 50 mls anymore. MFK Absolue Pour Le Soir. There was a little bottle and it was affordable. Do not be me. Shop around. Also Dior Eau Noire, a partially used bottle sat on EBay for more than a year and it was reasonable. Participate in splits. Host them too. Safran Troublant came into my life this way and also De Profundis. Also, buy paper perfume smelling strips! They are cheap. You are never going to get through your sample stash without them. Testing on paper will determine if you even want this on your skin, plus your trash will smell heavenly.

Hi stinker_kit, I agree with you. Wish I would have bought that bottle of Parfumerie Generale Bois Blond that I waffled over for literally years…why didn’t I just get it? It was a reasonable price and one of the ones that sent me beyond the rabbit hole and way into the rabbit warren. Can’t get it anymore. Or some of the classics (like Chanel Coco) – yes, still available but wish I would have bought back before current reformulations. Also 10 Corso Como which SheriG reminded me of below.

OTOH, I have impulse bought bottles that I wish I hadn’t as I lost interest or things that were a great price that I didn’t want as much as others. It’s not really a big problem to have too much perfume, it’s just that it bothers *me.* So I’ve gotten better but I have to have a system.

Our taste does change. I had no rose soliflores for a long time because I did not like them. I have a few now and enjoy them. I think we need to be willing to give away, trade, sell bottles that do not interest us anymore. There is also the phenomena of buying up. I loved perfume A but perfume B is a better version, so part with A.

So this is the last info I received. From Monsieur Kirkdjian, Absolue Pour Le Soir would never be discontinued. However, just a few bottles would be produced yearly and once they are gone, they are gone until they make more. I am going to email the very responsive MFK website this week and inquire. If you are interested, do the same. They can at least let us know when/if bottles will be available.

Good morning all! I’m in many sprays of Tam Dao this morning, and contemplating the poll. I’d have said I’m not itching to buy anything right now … except that the reference above to Wazamba reminded me that I’ve been lemming that one for months now … and then there are 10 Corso Como and Knize Ten that have been sitting on the to-buy list forever while I snub them in favor of newer loves. Tell me why I need 10CC when I have the giant size FB of Tam Dao (and Costes, which ought to satisfy cravings for Oddball Sandalwood). Or why I need Wazamba when I have Kyoto and Feu Secret and Sugi, or why I need Knize Ten when there are at least five leathers in the perfume closet already. Gaaaah!

I haven’t heard of it being discontinued though? Hopefully it’s just temporarily out of stock. ?

Don’t I remember a few years ago that Cristalle EDT appeared to be disappearing, and a few months later it was back everywhere? I think Chanel might do this kind of thing to inspire panic-buying. Hopefully the EDP will reappear sometime soon.

They do not make small quantities of these (or most) commercial fragrances, so there is no “steady stream” of new product. They make huge batches. That is also why you still see fragrances on the market long after they’ve stopped making them.

Maybe get the Chance Eau Vive if you see a bargain? Or find a coupon?

I hope it is just out of stock now for you. I checked my usual websites and it is available in Canada right now.

Maybe call Chanel directly to see what the word is? Bergdorf Goodman is also pretty good at tracking things down.

SOTD = Chris Rusak Timbre EDP

And why not? I am in an all green outfit and this is one of my greener indie perfumes!

Thank you Sistine. It was supposed to be vintage when I got it many years ago!

I’m wearing FL 18 by A. N. Other today. For the longest time I thought the bottle had a lame sprayer. Turns out I wasn’t holding it down long enough – it has a great sprayer. Small win for the day!

I’ve made a resolution to drink more tea this year, and have really gotten into the process of making loose leaf tea. It’s nice that there’s a few extra minutes here and there to take a little bit of time to do something for myself.

It took me an absurd amount of time to realise I could twist the nozzle so that it lined up with the front of the bottle – and then I wouldn’t have to search for it each time ?

I started out this morning in Civet. Got a bit frazzled with the Target pickup process. They forgot several order items, so I had to make a trip back. It’s funny, I was thinking (on my first trip) that one little cool thing about the New Days is being able to pick up your supplies in sweats and house shoes. Not so fun when it takes two trips.
Now I’m in Santal Kardamon, which is softer and more inviting. Tea, chocolate and NST is making for a nice afternoon. I hope everyone is having a peaceful Sunday! ?

Currently under consideration is a travel-size bottle of Soivohle Paracelsus.

Pros: I’ve sampled it and think it is gorgeous. Also, I have a Significant Birthday coming up later on this month. And Soivohle’s travel sizes are cute little 4mL bottles.

Cons: SO many bottles of perfume already! Plus, I spent much more on perfume in 2020 than intended. And I recently got a new cell phone to replace my much loved but obsolete Samsung sliding keyboard phone.

Will I break? I dunno. ?‍♀️ I should at least give my Paracelsus sample another sniff in the near future…

Last year, I had Wrappings as my pick for this feature. I got not one, but two bottles of it towards the end of 2020. ?

SOSaturday = HdP 1740, from the sample stash.

SOSunday = Cuir de Lancome, also from the sample stash. I seem to be on a bit of a leather kick currently.

Go for the Paracelsus! Your only chance for regret will be if you wait until it’s no longer available.

I did that with Soivohle’s Calcutta. It was another swoon-y perfume, but I was holding out for the sale, and suddenly it was gone.

Buy the Paracelsus. Get rid of something else you don’t love. 🙂

I haven’t seen many folks back away from the cliff, lol. Hajusuuri’s renaming idea is making sense.

Last year I was agonizing over Amouage Opus 1 and Ubar, which have been on my to-buy list for years. Still waffling. And testing Chanels but coming up no on most of the Exclusifs. Maybe Le Lion? Also tempted by TF Lost Cherry but would never blind buy a TF.

Maybe the Amouage classics discovery set? If only it had Ubar and Opus 1, but no. And it costs a fortune. I blind bought Lyric and it is not me at all, need to re-home that.

I can’t go sniffing until I get a shot, so samples via mail seem like the best path. Luckyscent and Saks, here I come.

No — very little backing away. Easily the worst — or best, depending on your viewpoint — year so far.

There are a few things I would like but can never decide from fear of making a mistake, then I don’t buy anything (which may not be entirely bad).

Iris torrefie has been on my mind a lot and also Gourmand coquin that I got to try a few months ago. Lately I crave for aldehydes and wonder why I never got Chanel 5 EDP… but I hesitate between Chanel 5 and n 22 and can’t decide which I would wear the most!

Spent the morning commando as I dove straight into work and just came up for air after 5 hours. Have an hour meeting later and then probably another hour of work. Not much of a weekend for me!

Just sprayed some TF Lost Cherry. I’ll grab another purse spray of this when I can use a coupon code.

Two more hours to go until my call. Trying to summon the energy to go on a walk. But first I need to relax a bit!
