Reminder: 1/8 is David Bowie's birthday. If you like, pick a favorite Bowie song and wear a perfume to match. Or, just wear a fragrance that you think fits with the occasion for whatever reason.

I had not worn it in a long time and it was so good to revisit it!
I got my lutens fleur d’oranger in the mail yesterday and to my horror it was the black label (can you return stuff to fragrancenet?). My previous experience is from a mini with the palais on it-that one is rich and raspy with sandalwood (i think? It smells like unwashed hair), the new version only has the flower and an extra dose of cumin! Dont know what to do about it 🙁 its still better than almost any other o.b. but I want the full experience!
If it’s not open, I think you can return it. Call customer service and double check though. You will probably have to pay shipping.

I bought Datura Noir from FragranceX and had the same experience, i.e black label. In the end I kept it. It’s not bad, just not what I expected and much more short lived.
Broke Hermes Year to wear TF Lost Cherry today after everyone talked about it in the damage poll yesterday. Yum.

The boyfriend cooked goose leg with red cabbage today, which was quite good. And we started a 1000 piece puzzle with a Rizzi painting.

In Habit Rouge today, which I purchased in the third quarter, I think. I’m terrible about keeping track and confessing. I don’t think I want to know.
Just back from a 4.5 mile walk. It’s cold and damp and gray, but I know a lot about layering.
I like wearing Habit Rouge. It hums in the background.
It is very good company!
Now, that is a good walk!
I have a route around town. When it starts to get too easy, I add another block.

I’ve been a constitutional law nerd since I was 16, so I expect to spend a lot of time watching Congress today.
So far I have reached one clear conclusion: It must be really cold in DC, since the reporters are wearing best warm coats of good thick wool and still look like they were freezing.
It’s in the high 30s/ low 40s…really not that bad for a Washington DC January!
Oh. It looked windy too. Maybe the reporter is just a wimp.
I have a sample of night flyer and trying to make up my mind about it! It has an interesting progression, but it might be too unconventional for me.

Feeling Hiris-y and Hermes-y today. Also feeling pandemic ennui, a bit tired of all the things.
BUT I woke up before my alarm and enjoyed watching a squirrel take a sunbath in my backyard this morning. It’s funny how he scratches and stretches and goes over every bit of his fur with his little paws.
AND I’m up early to work with students via zoom for most of the day, beginning in about half an hour. It’s good to see their smiles again in the new year.
My brain made a quick left from David Bowie to Beck via Moulin Rouge when I saw Diamond Dogs up top today. I used to listen to that soundtrack endlessly. One day I’ll fly away . . . which takes me to I’ll Fly Away from O Brother, Where Art Thou? . . . and so on down the musical rabbit burrow. 🙂

I have no idea whether the current formulation under the new owner smells any different at all. The listed notes include myrrh and frankincense, so I thought it was a fitting offering for this day.

Scent of the morning a little dab from a sample of Masque Milano Romanza.
I can smell the narcissus but the hyacinth accord is giving me a very strong (but not unpleasant) impression of ripe grapes along with the green and herbal and floral notes. Huh.
SOTD is actually going to be Zoologist T-Rex cuz I’m needing a little raaaaawr in my life. Bowie would understand the need to be extra.

I just saw that bottle in my cabinet (among all the other old SL bottles I have), but chose to wear Douce Amere instead. I am a huge fan of Chypre Rouge. It’s some of SL’s best work, I think.

As you know, Clouds parfum is my #1. Probably second is Waft from the Loft parfum. But I also really enjoy Captured by Candlelight, Centrepiece, Over the Chocolate Shop, Red Queen and Midnight in the Palace Garden. Tart’s Knicker Drawer is really fun too. 🙂

It’s a great list! I have a sample of Red Queen and I look forward to trying it. Over the Chocolate Shop was very good but did not move me when I tried it maybe 3 years ago.

I have only smelled samples, but I like Tart’s Knicker Drawer (not really, just a really gorgeous Oriental fragrance) and Dark Heart, a rich sweet scent that smell fantastic in heat but not overwhelming.
You’re the 2nd one with Tart’s Knicker Drawer! Dark Heart if Old Havana was still ashtray smokey.
Tart is just so beautiful! And Dark Heart is smokey, but EDM festival strong!
I just bought a FB of Rhubarb & Custard. Also think Over the Chocolate Shop is great. Just got samples of Clouds EDP and Both Sides of Clouds EDP thought they were great and need to wear again. The parfum sounds wonderful. Need to review all the cloud variations again to make sure I have them straight too ? but I do know the two I have tried so far. Also have a sample of White Queen which I haven’t tried yet.
I have a sample of Rhubarb and Custard! Clouds EDP is fantastic. Will have to read about White Queen but since you picked it as a sample, it has to be good!
My favourite is Who Knew? which just makes me happy. I am sure “fluffy rainbow marshmallows” is what unicorns mainly eat…

1) SOTD is Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud- very appropriate for today!
2) It’s still very grey and rainy- apparently this is an El Nino event this year, so we are basically under an atmospheric river. Of course, east of the Cascades it’s dry and VERY cold; here it is rainy and relatively mild (highs of 50F/10c); some of my herbs growing happily instead of being dormant.
3) I did a refinance of my house, so now my payment is even lower than before. I got some ‘cash back’ so my bank account is replenished after all the DIYs done. I also found out the paper value of my house now and YOOO- how did this funky little shack appreciate THAT MUCH?!
Yay for lower payments and real estate appreciation!
Indeed! The clock was reset but that is fine- it’s only been 4 years or so. I am really happy with the total payment (insurance+ tax) – it’s cheaper than current rent in PDX!

I went for a walk early before the rain starts this afternoon. I live a few miles from a Mondelez/Nabisco plant and if the wind is blowing right, I can smell the cookies baking. Today smells like Chips Ahoy, but my favorite days are Nilla Wafers. Those smells are almost drool-worthy. I’m wearing Amyris femme. Grocery run later on.
Infinitely nicer than living next to a rose farm, as a friend once did: they fertilized the roses with horse manure, and that was all that could be discerned.

Amouage Dia again, for doc appoinments (eye doc – done, root canal – imminent).
The eye appointment was mainly because I wanted my glasses adjusted i.e. bent back into shape and you need an appointment for that, so I thought “might as well have the annual exam”. Went in, chatted forever with the eye doctor, started looking at frames, went home – and forgot to get my glasses adjusted….
Dia is such an elegant, every-day (every-dia?) scent.
I’ve heard Dia described as being similar to Gold. Do you find that to be the case?
Ok, this is a little embarrassing – I think I have tried Amouage Gold, but I am not 100% sure. If I did, I passed it along quickly. I think Gold is described as quite opulent; Dia is not. Do you know the original Nivea smell? Dia is a super fancy version of that to me.
I read somewhere that Lancome Climat was like Dia; this is not true, but apparently, Climat is like Gold. Not sure that helps.
I’ve tried Amouage Gold and have a small bottle of the La Collection version of Climat, but haven’t come across Dia yet.
But yes, I would say that Gold is opulent.

To pair.. a very light wearing(as it can burn my skin lol) of Kerosene Black Vines from a sample. Fits pretty darn good! I want Black Vines but it would have to be applied mostly to a scarf or other clothing lol. So in that case..maybe I do not want this one haha.

I’m wearing Elephant, which I love. Strangely, perhaps, I’m noticing the musk note a lot, because it reminds me of Deer Musk! I’m also getting a very strong coconut note. Plus the more obvious green notes and sandalwood. I only have a sample, bit perhaps a travel spray is in my future. I find this calming and comforting.

Originally in Wrappings, and then I just sprayed Love, by Killian. Thank goodness this is a travel spray. It is horrendous on my skin. I can’t escape it. Blech! And I used to have the big Ole set when it first came out and loved it.
I forgot a few perfumes from last quarter. Boy, I was bad. Tuscan Leather and Ari. TL I spritzed once or twice and it is just as bad as Love on me.
The Epiphany means I get to scrub the Love and wear some very special incense. A lovely gift from a NSTer.?
