Friday scent of the day 1/1

Posted by Robin on 1 January 2021 281 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Happy New Year and sayonara to 2020. (It's also the eighth day of Christmas and the last day of Kwanzaa, plus, Public Domain Day, Euro Day, and of course, National Bloody Mary Day.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume that will bring you good luck in 2021.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I slept quite late, sorry! I'm in Fendi Theorema, again. If 2021 is half as good as Theorema I'll be satisfied.

Reminder: 1/8 is David Bowie's birthday. If you like, pick a favorite Bowie song and wear a perfume to match. Or, just wear a fragrance that you think fits with the occasion for whatever reason.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Bunny Wall Clock ("Add some style to your child's room with our cute Bunny Wall Clock and make learning the time fun!") is $63.70 at Nest Accessories at Etsy.

Happy New Year everyone! My SOTD is Fendi’s Life Essence. I haven’t worn this in a while, time to give it some attention. 🙂
I’m headed out for my walk, yesterday’s walk and stairs were wonderful but there were lots of people out, hopefully, it’s less crowded.
Let’s hope 2021 is better, on all levels, for everyone.

    FREEBIE ALERT!

On the eighth day of Christmas, I’m offering for free
    8 Short Stories

This is the Imaginary Authors Short Stories collection, a boxed manufacturer’s sample set containing 2 ml spray vials of the following fragrances:

    Cape Heartache
    A City on Fire
    Every Storm a Serenade
    Memoirs of a Trespasser
    O, Unknown
    Saint Julep
    Slow Explosion
    Yesterday Haze

I purchased this set new from Lucky Scent a couple of years ago. I have sprayed each of these no more than a few times, so they are nearly full.

    Also, still unclaimed from Tuesday

    5 ml of Spring

This is a 5 ml decant of Dasein Spring purchased from Olfactif. It is in a very nice opaque metallic twist-up spray vial. Because it is opaque (and I have no idea how to take it apart) I cannot see the actual level of the perfume inside, but it should contain most of the original 5 ml, as I have only used a few sprays. It came without any label on it to indicate the fragrance, so I have placed a label on it. I do not know how well it will stick.

May 2021 bring us all peace, good health and prosperity.
My heart goes out to all of you facing health challenges, loss and difficulties of any sort. I’m hoping better days are ahead.

I’m wearing Bombay Bling, which is sunshine in a bottle on this rainy day.

Happy New Year, NST! I got my rabbits in at 12:01 a.m. precisely (thank you, neighborhood firecracker aficionados), so I’m hoping they (the rabbits, not the NFAs) will be effective for a long time. My adorable, wee bottle of Paracelsus did indeed arrive yesterday (squeee!), so as soon as I drag myself out from under the covers (late-sleep twin with Robin here) that will be my choice for the CP. Woohooo, 2021!

OH MY, I did most certainly not remember at 12:01. And, for some reason there were tons of fireworks here around 11:30 but they must have used them all up early because total silence by midnight.

Glad someone else managed to sleep in 🙂

We leave our phones/pads in a different room before we start getting ready for bed! This helps us avoid all non-Kindle electronics at night, which should lead to better sleep and also makes sure I read at least a little every day 🙂

Happy New Yr. I went to go downtown last night for fireworks but then was informed the show was only for hotel guests this year. Totally lame lol.

Bowie fan here, sigh, gone much too soon. I was bummed for a while after I heard the news.

If you have not heard this Life on Mars cover/instrumental, you need to.

    https://youtu.be/F4fQhHBuvc0

    It’s beautiful.

I heard Bowie wore Silver Mt Water? Not sure. Or one by Paloma Picasso, Minotaure?

In a heavy dose of Le Lion.

One of the composers of that song is also a big Bowie fan and was a close friend. One can hear the sense of loss but also admiration and respect. Maybe even a saying of goodbye. It sounds very spiritual to me. That’s what I get from it anyway lol.

I love Trent Reznor, his Austin City Limits show from 2014 is one of my favorite ACL’s ever. I’ve lost track how many times I’ve watched it.

Also a big Bowie fan here. I think I posted this link back in the fall but likely it was late in the day and maybe not seen? Has anyone managed to see this show in the UK? Here is an article for some context and at the end a link to the gallery. It’s on until June so maybe I might get to see it!

Happy New Year everyone! May 2021 bring more peace, health and joy than we can anticipate!

I’m wearing Maitri by Provision Scents today. My husband got me two bottles of perfume for Christmas, so I saved the unboxing of this one for today – new perfume, new year. I also have a new mascara and a new lip gloss to use with no bad vibes from 2020 stuck in them. Maitri is a gorgeous earthy vetiver scent which really reminds me of the California desert for some reason.

I haven’t purchased any perfume since July and when I stopped buying a bottle or two per month I naively thought my collection would start shrinking at a quick rate. Nope. I’ve used up one 5 ml rollerball since July. So if I have a perfume related resolution for this year, it’s to spray with more abandon.

If you have a large collection, and wear different things (not the same one or two perfumes over and over), you won’t see the collection shrink right away. A nearly empty bottle takes up as much space as a full one. What is likely to happen is that after quite a while you will empty several bottles in rapid succession.

My husband lines up his bottles on a shelf and uses them in strict rotation, so everything does get used up eventually, and it tends to happen this way. He will have the same bottles for months, then three or four will get emptied within a few weeks. Right now he has seven in use, one for each day of the week., and likes it that way. I gave him two new bottles for Christmas, and suggested he just keep them in reserve until he empties some of his current bottles. Probably two of them will be thunked within a few weeks, and two more within a couple of months after that.

Sometimes, when I’m close to finishing a bottle or decant, I get so excited that I wear nothing but that for days! And am inevitably shocked at how long that last 0.3 mL can last.

What good news! Our best gift of the season was my beloved 90 year-old FIL getting his first shot of the vaccine just before Christmas. He’s in assisted living and they’ve been in total lockdown since the start of March, but it has paid off in that they’ve had no cases at all among residents or staff. And now they’re getting vaccinated, what a relief. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everybody! Here’s to a fresh start as we head into 2021. As long as we take it one day at a time, I think we’ll be okay.

Didn’t get my rabbits in….first words out of my mouth were swear words when I dropped something in the kitchen. Not the most auspicious way to start the new day/month/year. ?

I’m in Rania J. Ambre Loup, which is rich, smooth, comforting and I love it from start to finish. If 2021 feels even a bit as good as this smells, I’ll be in good shape. ❤️

I’m in vintage Obsession. It always brought me good luck in college?let’s see if it can work it’s magic for 2021.
I was in bed by 11, but I did remember to rabbit in the wee hours of the morning when I woke up briefly.
I never make New Years resolutions, but this year I made a couple of New Years intentions. That word just sounds less harsh to me and if I don’t stick to it, well, I can say I had the best intentions.

Agree – much easier to try out new habits and have intentions. Resolutions always sound so very “resolute” ? I fail at those before I even have a chance to start!

Happy New Year, NST! I’m up late (8:30 a.m. is late for me) and wearing POTL Luctor et Emergo. The name is apropos and it’s a fragrance that has always felt “holidayish” for me.

Last night the weather forecasters predicted a “river of rain” for us here in Seattle and gave a warning of potential landslides. Really? Gee, thanks, Mother Nature. However, I’m going to soldier on with my New Year’s resolution of looking for an element of happiness every day. Thankful for NST and all of you!

I can’t think of any better wishes for all here for 2021 than this Aaronic blessing: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
In Ninfeo Mio, because it reminds me of sunshine, beautiful gardens, travels to Italy and better times.

Happy New Year, everyone! I’ve missed you all! and missed my perfumes, too – gosh, it’s been a long time.

I recently discovered my little decant of L’Artisan’s Oeillet Sauvage and have been enjoying it on the rare occasion I have the opportunity to give myself a spritz. It reminds me of an old-school soap in the same way that DSH’s Fleuriste does – I wonder if Camay had a carnation note? There’s something quietly comforting about it, perhaps a scent-memory from my childhood. For quite a while there, I was finding it difficult at times to allow comfort in, as I thought my heart just couldn’t expand enough any longer and I feared the tears might never stop and I’d turn to mush. Then, when searching for healing solfeggio music for my elderly cat, I found something beautiful which didn’t make me cry like all the other stuff I’d heard. Plus, my cat loves it too! If you wanna listen some day, here it is:

    https://youtu.be/wAwZKak4_3E

Sending everyone best wishes for 2021, and many thanks for being here and providing such a loving, supportive community. Be well, my friends.

Got my rabbits in after midnight, so that’s a good start to a new year. Grateful for this group, for family and friends, for the books that have distracted me from the mess of 2020. Hoping the vaccine becomes more widely available, that people stay healthy and vigilant, that we take extra care with each other.

SoTD is Fate, because it calms me. I need to stay calm and unstick myself from the hangover of last year.

Yesterday’s experiment was Mon Shalimar. Yuck, never again.

Looking forward to David Bowie day. We took our kids to see him in the 90s. The opening act was Nine Inch Nails; midshow, both bands came on and played Scary Monsters. What a great show, although the kids said, ‘Who is this Bowie guy?’ Kids, yikes. Just when you think you’ve brought them up well ….

So that’s Mon Guerlain + Shalimar that is a no no? Thank you for doing the science – your sacrifice is appreciated!

I tried Avocado Co-wash body spray with some O’de Lancôme and while it wasn’t a total abomination I wouldn’t bother repeating it.

I got in my Cousins’ Zoom last night. There were about 25 windows at our largest and it was so nice to see multiple generations and most of us stayed on for the entire time. My generation has many medical professionals while the next generation moved on to architecture…sign of the times? Regardless, someone suggested a once a year meet but I think it should be at least twice, if not 3x a year.

Later today will be dinner zoom with friends. I keep waffling on what to get from the Chinese food takeout place but I have my possible set!

I was expecting a financial windfall next week(small one) but it arrived today. Following Sistine’s example, I decided to go with a new bottle, Cire Trudon Mortel. This past year was a great lesson in impermanence, gratitude and living in the moment. In the spirit of gratitude, I’m embarking on a no-buy, so I can refocus on enjoying what I already have (and will never be able use up).

Was in bed by 11…no rabbits for me. I’m only superstitious when it comes to sports…lucky scarves, bad luck hats, etc…

New year, new scent. Decided to wear Gabrielle Essence, since it was a Christmas gift and is new for me. Pleasant, light, easy-going…which is how I’d like the year to go.

The husband is having leftover chicken tortilla casserole as he watches his football team (Northwestern) play its bowl game. There’s a part of me that wants to open the bottle of sparkling wine that’s in the fridge, but it would just be me drinking it…a lot would be wasted…not sure you can reseal sparkling….

Happy New Year to everyone! May it be a year of health, prosperity and togetherness.

SOTD Jorum Studio Nectary, the scent that is never wrong. I’m starting to ration the days when I’m willing to drain some of that 15ml bottle, but’s a special occasion to start the year off, after all!

Just polished off a monumental size Caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons (hot dog buns make THE BEST fresh croutons, it’s practically criminal).

My official pandemic book toll is 75, and a grand total of 90 books read in 2020. Most were fairly fluffy fantasy/sci-fi so not life changing, but still a decent count!

Later today I will make some black-eyed peas, rice, cabbage, and sausage. The rain is over, and the weather this morning was chilly but clear, mostly sunny, with a beautiful blue sky–my favorite type of winter weather.

Pretending it’s summer, in Biehl PC01 on one arm and Guerlain Limone Verde on the other. No one I know makes NY resolutions, but I will continue my lackadaisical, semi-resolution of using up samples and possibly decants. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2021!

Thunking samples and decants sounds like a good idea to me! Better they get used and enjoyed rather than evaporating or going bad.

Chanel No. 5 parfum, which I opened yesterday. It is beautiful and lighter than I expected, but here’s a nice story: I was dropping off a meal for an elderly friend yesterday afternoon — I wear my mask, keep my distance, and try to be in and out in under five minutes, vs. pre-pandemic, when we would chat for an hour — and she said, “You are wearing a lovely perfume. It is so familiar but I cannot name it.” And then ensued a great but too-short chat about Chanel No. 5 and fragrance in general and her mother’s perfume favorites. So clearly, there is some projection if a 96-year-old can smell it from six+ feet away.

Only down side of No. 5 is that my husband doesn’t seem too excited about it. “Very floral,” he said, which is true but not an enthusiastic response.

May all the NST community find peace and healing in 2021, and many thanks to Robin for keeping it going and keeping it kind.

Happy new year to everyone! Thank you, Robin and everyone here, for making this such a delightful community.

I’m in Amouage Gold today. Getting it was a stroke of luck — got it for 50% off years ago when Amouage did a bottle change and bought it unsniffed (though recommended to me). Lucky I liked it! 🙂

No resolutions here; I’ve never found making a change around an arbitrary date helpful for me, though I know it can be an impetus for others. I did start working out on my bike a bit more regularly two months ago — I’m 8 weeks into a “Back to Fitness” workout on Zwift that started easy and now is kicking my butt.

Best wishes for a happy and healthier 2021!

Happy New Year, everyone! I spritzed before I checked in on the community project for the week, so I didn’t go for luck so much as for the idea of a fresh, elegant, as-yet-uncomplicated blank page — I’m trying out a sample of No. 5 l’Eau today. So far it’s fizzy fizzy fizzy lemons but I’m detecting some spiceness starting to well up towards the surface. My boots are muddy, my sweater is linty, my hair is mussy, but by golly I smell put together!

I’ve been in kitchen-and-garden production mode today and have knocked out a big pot of black-eyed peas for tonight’s good-luck dinner, a Moroccan lamb stew with prunes for upcoming work nights, a big batch of pesto, and a pan of roasted root veggies for making wholesome lunch salads out of. Various seeds and bulbs have been planted and the fruit trees are pruned, and if I can just remember to copper spray the peach and nectarine trees today I figure I’ll have earned another glass of champagne. 🙂

Wishing each and every one of you a new year filled with health, happiness, and peacefulness of heart!

    Happy New Year, everyone!

    1) SOTD is Joy (Jean Patou) because of course! Generous sprays! Rose-jasmine goodness, and damn I am gonna miss this when it is gone! This is along with scent of saging the house yesterday.

    2) No bubbly last night- a bath, dryer warm pjs, Star Trek Discovery, rooibos tea, mj gummies and bed promptly at 1 am after making sure I survived the year.

    3) Will be turning the office back into a bedroom for my friend- and will need to be relocated back downstairs. It’s about half way done; I have to take down the artwork and redo the closet.

        1) She is gonna move in on Sunday, so I just hustled New Year’s afternoon and got stuff done. Desk and computer network is now relocated downstairs; artwork down and closet re-arranged, and twin bed, bedstand and lamp is now set up.

        2) This season of Discovery is quite a ride, with a central mystery like last season! And a delightful Big Bad!

Dear NST friends, happy new year! I’m wearing Ambre Narguilé, which by some miracle my fiancé also likes. To be quite honest, 2020 wasn’t that bad for me. It took a lot away from me, but gave me things, too. For everyone who had a much harder 2020 (and I know that’s a lot of people, perhaps even most), but also for myself, I hope 2021 goes better.

As usual, I’ve performed some end-of-year perfume analytics. I’ve been doing this for three years, and the trend is that I’ve been wearing my favorites more. In 2018, my most-worn perfume was worn eight times. In 2019, it was 12 times.

In 2020, I wore my most-worn scent 25 times! And that scent is Ginger Piccante (so, thank you hajusuuri!). Mitzah, AG Vétiver, and Histoire d’Orangers tied for second place with 13 wears each.

My most-worn house was Guerlain (makes sense, given the 25 wears of GP), at 33 instances. Dior and l’Artisan Parfumeur come in second with 22 wears each, followed by Hermès at 20.

I was shocked to see how rarely I wore my self-proclaimed favorites: Ambre Narguilé only got six wears, and Mohur only got five! Meanwhile, le Lion, which I’ve finally decided I don’t ever need more of, got 10 wears. And Jour d’Hermès extrait, which got 12 wears last year, and which I loved so much I got an entire bottle of, got only a SINGLE application this year. Same with Camel, though that makes more sense because of its associations with my father’s passing. (No surprise, then, that the day I wore it this year was the anniversary of his death.)

Well, that’s the end of the 2020 perfume summary. Time for me to start a page for 2021. Where did 2020 even go? It felt both infinitely long and very short. Wishing you all a wonderful new year!

Insolence was my COVID shutdown/furlough theme. Edp first, then the flankers, with My Insolence being a lucky E**y find. Nahema was probably my favorite of the year, the modern edp. I also discovered Apres l’Ondee from a wonderful NST swap meet. I did a few wearings of Jardins de Bagatelle, which does not get a lot of love, but I love it. Shalimar Souffle Intense was also high on the most worn list.

It’s interesting what you said about finding that you hadn’t worn some best-loved perfumes very often.

I guess a lot of perfumes that we perfumistas adore because they are ecstasy-inducingly fabulous are not actually wearable irl.

One of my favorites, Roja Dove Diaghilev would be a prime example. You’re not going to catch me in polite company with that one!

Hope you have a wonderful New Year, too!

Some wonderful perfumes are just too big to wear around other people. With so much scentphobia these days, I tend to select more restrained scents for work. I also can’t wear a really demanding scent at bedtime, as it can keep me from sleeping. Then there is the problem of a perfume taking too much of my attention away from whatever else I am supposed to be concentrating on.

Oh that’s totally true; I know what you mean. Though I wouldn’t put Ambre Narguilé in that category. I suspect I just didn’t wear that one as much because it’s in the back of the cabinet, and I’d find something else nice before I’d get to it.

Nah, I’m pretty confident it doesn’t. Only I see the data, and it’s just perfume 🙂 The only way in which it affects my perfume usage is by reminding me to wear it every day; sometimes I forget until I realize I haven’t filled in my spreadsheet!

Again, a Happy New Year to all you fragrant friends, if I failed to comment elsewhere. (2020 lookback: what was that topic last year that got over 1,000 comments…I am blanking…some association game???) We had an almost-ice storm here. But now it has gotten above freezing and stopped raining so I really should go for a walk. SotD is from my Jubilation 25 body cream. At first I thought it was not going to be fragrant enough, but as the day goes on, it softly stays with me. I mentioned yesterday that I was wowed by the presentation box and the jar, almost overwhelmed in fact. 😉

I only heard a few local fireworks last night–luckily. They had a big city plea to people asking them not to fire guns in the air, which is a Texas way to celebrate the New Year, ugh. I remembered rabbits when I woke up at around 5 p.m. and got up briefly. Slow day today and I’m wearing Amouage Opus VIII because it is deep, potent, and profound; perhaps I can add “protective” to all that as well. Good news from my brother, the nurse called and said Mom was tested again for Covid-19 this week and they just got her result, and this week it’s negative! Thank goodness!

Happy New Year! I hope it doesn’t turn out quite so unexpected as 2020. I had a very lazy 1 January yesterday, and had to force myself out of the house for a short afternoon walk. I put on a dab of Amber Eccentrico from Armani Privé in the morning, and it accompanied me for the whole day. That seems to happen most often with things I don’t really like 🙂
This morning I’m testing Encens Satin from the same range and like it a lot more. I discovered I can buy this in New Zealand, so that has to be a positive sign for the coming year.

Weather predicted for today includes rain, freezing rain, sleet, ice, and snow. Did I forget anything? Oh, yes – sun! But, unfortunately, that’s the only element missing from today’s forecast.

For today’s cp I’m wearing Dame Perfumery Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, mostly because it’s warm and comforting on this yucky day. But as this was Dame’s first fragrance and it appears to have brought success and good luck to Jeffrey’s perfumery, I’ll consider that my good luck charm for the day!

My Happy New Year wish for all includes a heavy dose of hope for the future and a light dose of whimsy to lessen the seriousness of it all. To that end, I’ll leave you with 2 songs from my favorite folk singer that I hope will make you smile:

One to say goodbye soon to life as we’ve known it for most of the year just past:

Happy New Year everyone. I haven’t been on here for ages… Great you guys are still active.
I’m wearing Christine Nagel’s **Cèdre Sambac** (from the generous sample they offer) and think it will go into my 4 x 15 ml Hermèssences set, a purchase of which I am pondering since the middle of the last decade. The others I chose will be Santal Massoïa, Iris Ukiyoé and … and … still can’t decide!!
Cèdre Sambac for me has the perfect balance of challenging and comforting, and I feel it suits this atmosphere of change and uncertainty.

New Years greetings, NST! SOTD Parfum Sacre, which always strikes me as pretty but mournful, so hopefully it doesn’t set the tone for the year! It suits me fine for the day, in any case.

Happy New Year All! In Azemour les Orangers because I love citrus this time of year and it perks me up on rainy days.

Resolution is to spritz more and not hold back. I remember someone saying that at the end of her life she only regretted her “economies.” I’m sure she was talking about perfume…

No I don’t unfortunately. Les Azemours smells similar to me to Bigarade Concentree but the latter doesn’t have cumin.

Late again today, NST! Happy New Year! There were quite a few ‘pops’ and ‘booms’ in my neighborhood last night, thanks to some amateur pyrotechnicians.

    ???

Brussels sprouts and smoked pork for luck today at lunch.

SOTD = back in Azuree again today, since it smelled SO good yesterday. It warmed up today’s cool/cold, rainy weather.

Happy New Year everyone! My perfume for good luck is Bloodline by Hans Hendley for the American Perfumer store. I smell like the most perfect bonfire with lots of charred wood, cedar particularly. I chose this one because I was lucky to have been able to buy a bottle. The re-release batch this year was of only 25 bottles, and they sold out within seconds. I used Google Pay, which makes check out so fast and came out successful with bottle 21/25. I had my boyfriend sniff me after I sprayed and he told me I smelled fancy haha. The smoke definitely deepens and intensifies as the perfume wears.

Having a nice, relaxing day while the rain comes down outside. Dinner will be our leftovers from last night, nasi goreng, which is a superb rice dish we get from a Malaysian restaurant down the street. We also had roti babi last night. I swear I could eat that meal every night, it’s that good.

        Here’s a nasi goreng recipe: https://www.recipetineats.com/nasi-goreng-indonesian-fried-rice/

It’s fried rice cooked with a sweet soy sauce that caramelizes the rice. Also cooked with delicious greens, bean sprouts, green onions, tofu, and a fried runny egg on top. It’s fairly spicy for me, as I have a low tolerance for spicy foods, but it has so much flavor.

Roti babi is egg battered bread stuffed with pork, mushrooms, spices, and Worcestershire with a spicy chili dipping sauce.

Today I’ve been enjoying Cuir de Russie, Le Lion and Les Indemodables Musv des Sables. Ordered a few decants today, including one of Musc des Sables (at a surprisingly reasonable price) to stave off the impulse to buy very expensive FBs. Musc des Sables is definitely on the buy list, though, if/when there’s a discount opportunity.

Managed to rabbit today, my first time ever. Not be a tradition I grew up with! But, heh, can’t hurt.

A lazy and unproductive New Year’s Day for me. Saw some relatives (safely distanced outside) who will be departing tomorrow.

My favorite New Year’s tradition is one shared by a friend (with a Japanese mother), which she described as a Japanese tradition: that you should live New Year’s Day as you want to live the rest of the year. So, you shouldn’t do chores or cleaning on that day, but your house should be clean and tidy. Your wallet should have money in it. And so on. I sadly didn’t achieve these goals today! But I like the idea.

Le Lion is a good one. 😉

I like that Japanese tradition. I try to get things around me in order and do chores at home on or before the 31st, then spend the first day of the new year doing things that I enjoy that are good for me. Mostly exercise and reading this year.

    Happy New Year everyone!
I woke up a few times last night and rabbited. I chose 24 Faubourg for my Sotd. It’s my fanciest perfume, and is the opposite of me, so I thought it might bring good luck. Kind of like when George Castanza did the opposite of his instincts and good things happened, lol?, but if I remember correctly, it didn’t work out well for Elaine.
Good luck and health to us all.

My day was quiet, as I had hoped it would be. On Monday I’ll get back to running my errands and generally being out and about, if the weather isn’t bad. No scent yet for me for today, but probably something with lavender at bedtime. I wore Demeter Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. That was rather nice, though of course it doesn’t last long. I’ve experimented with various other fragrances now and then over the past couple of weeks, but haven’t commented here on them, I don’t think.

Oh, I remember — I was experimenting with essential oils diluted into a carrier oil. On the Friday of the “wear something new” week, I did myrrh at bedtime. It would be difficult to get more old-school than that. lol. So that was doing the opposite of the project.

Then I diluted some balsam fir needle essential oil and put some on the artificial wreath on our door, and drops on various other things outside. That was a day when it rained very hard here, so I’m pretty sure that the oil washed off everything but the wreath. I couldn’t really smell the balsam fir oil on the wreath, but my fingers smelled strongly of evergreen for a little while. 😀

The next week after the actual myrrh oil, I put on a couple of dabs of SL La Myrrhe one day, which is much prettier than actual myrrh, at least to wear. lol. One evening I put on Rahat Loukoum (sp?), which for me is a love. I did several sprays of Bois de Vanille one night, but it softened enough to be all right to go to sleep with it on. I’ve completely missed whatever the last couple of weeks’ themes were, but just put on perfume or cologne or oils every so often. 🙂

I had the contrary experience the other day. I got some old Vetiver EO on my fingers and so decided to wear one of my (multiple) Vetiver scents only to realise the Vetiver EO smelled better than all of them ? It was more rounded and more perfectly poised between brightness/clarity and smokey warmth. Guess I should buy some more of the EO. Sure is more affordable!

Truth is though that I get bored…

It wasn’t that I didn’t like the smell of the actual myrrh, but I definitely didn’t feel like it worked for me as a scent to wear when I was trying to go to sleep. *shrugs*
Sometimes essential oils do strike me as nicer than the emulations of it in fine or functional fragrances. 🙂 It depends on the effect I’m looking for.

Here I am, commenting days late, but I did want to wish everyone here a very happy New Year, and share the hope that 2021 will go much better. I did my part to generate good luck by making black-eyed peas and greens for my family on New Year’s Day. I’ve been having fun trying out some scents I got for Christmas, including Jo Malone’s Christmas Cologne sampler and the discovery set for Zara’s Emotions collection, a collaboration with Jo Malone (the person, not the brand). Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy, safe 2021!
