A few more “stay calm and busy at home” type videos for the covid-19 pandemic, from Dolce & Gabbana. First, Helen Mirren reads us a poem (really, she should do that everyday, but this one will have to suffice), then, below the jump, Il Volo perform their “Grande Amore”, “O sole mio” by Enrico Caruso and “Turandot’s Nessun Dorma” by Giacomo Puccini. Next up, an 8 minute crochet session with Gayane, and last, Francesco shows you how to re-pot a cactus.

Hump Day, plus World Bicycle Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Before I move on to my own scent of the day, I’d like to pause for a minute and talk about the comment policy. It’s been a tough year, and things are quite unsettled at the moment. We can talk about it here, but only in a very limited way: we avoid politics as a rule, and I think everyone would agree that doing so has allowed us to remain a 99% polite and caring community for 15+ years now, regardless of what’s happening in the larger world. So, I am asking everyone, including myself, to be extra vigilant. You can mention protests or riots, yes. You can talk about attending, you can talk about how they’ve affected your daily life. But please, it would be better if you did not add any value judgments about what is happening or the official response to it, and it would be better if I were more vigilant about removing statements that could potentially make someone else uneasy. So I am going to try to do that, and I hope everyone will understand. If you have questions, or if you see a comment that disturbs you, please feel free to email me!
Meanwhile, I am taking points and smelling fabulous in Keiko Mecheri Osmanthus…

This is what the droning experts from the increasingly competitive self-care sector refer to as coping. Other people drink. I drink, too, but I find I need something to give shape to the 12 hours between waking and cocktails. That thing is fragrance, a substance with well-established powers to alter mood, unlock memory and evoke foreign vistas, a significant fact for anyone that has spent months gazing at four walls and a bonsai tree.
