Miller Harris Velvet Cherry & Black Datura ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 17 December 2020 9 Comments

British niche line Miller Harris has launched two new fragrances, Velvet Cherry and Black Datura.

Velvet Cherry (shown) ~ "Golden spirals of saffron and smoke surround claret-tinted cherries. Dizzying and addictive, like a velvet shadow cast upon succulent and glossy fruit that glistens with honey. The plush warmth of leather scattered with soft almond and delicate heliotrope adding a wisp of powder. Earthy and sensual patchouli merging with woody vetiver bring intensity and depth and tempt you with the irresistible pull of everything nocturnal." Additional notes include amber, cashmere wood, violet and cypriol.

Black Datura ~ "The narcotic and intensely hypnotic scent of datura flowers, delirious in the night shadows. Trumpet-shaped blooms are illuminated by moonlight, with a vivid richness and a reputation for spellbinding power. White florals of tuberose and lily come to life with the glimmering freshness of pink pepper. A sultry and unctuous base of warm amber and balsams provides a dramatic backdrop, immersing you in a rhythmic dance, dressed in black." Additional notes include ylang ylang and musk.

Miller Harris Velvet Cherry and Black Datura are available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

That Velvet Cherry sounds amazing. I only just discovered Lost Cherry (I know, I’m slow) and I’m now obsessed with cherry notes.

I have still not tried the TF, and did not care about this one until I saw the picture I included above…then I wanted some 🙂

I never thought much about cherry, but I sure like my Black Perfecto.

Anything that adds soft almond in there is tempting…

Both of these appeal to me, the Cherry does sound amazing. MH is about half and half for me, but I’d sample these in a heartbeat.

I am so far behind with MH that I should not say, but of their earlier things, I was more like 25%? So I would not buy unsniffed but would not mind trying.

I am not the biggest fan of saffron as a note but maybe the honey would save it.

Many years ago, when Lyn Harris was still involved in the company & they had one stand-alone shop in a side street in Notting Hill, I made a point of visiting when I was in London. I bought Fleurs de Bois, which I loved, & was thrilled to be given samples of their other fragrances, which at that time was a relatively small range. A few years later I treated myself to Figue Amere, first time I had worn a fragrance that smelled like this, so it was a big departure from my usual, & I was thrilled at the compliments I received. Can’t find either on the MH site, so no doubt have been discontinued – the story of my fragrance life!

I got Velvet Cherry from TK Maxx about a month or so ago…
It’s not as sweet as you think it would be from the notes list and is actually rather bitter in the opening. It’s very good.
