Wednesday scent of the day 12/16

Posted by Robin on 16 December 2020 222 Comments

Hump Day and Jane Austen’s birthday (check out the 360-degree virtual tour of the Jane Austen House in Chawton). What fragrance are you wearing?

We're expecting snow to roll in later today. I'm countering with a spritz of high summer — Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers.

Reminder: on 12/18 we're doing Best of 2020...wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2020.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Eau Premiere today. Feel like we’ve (midwest) dodged a possibly significant snow, phew!
Think I’m going to be in a repeat of last Friday’s scent this Fri, as it’s the only 2020 fragrance I’ve tried. It won’t be a sacrifice, though?

    I like Jane Austin novels.

I am testing Shalimar Philtre de Parfum for the second day in a row. It definitely smells like a Shalimar, but it is lighter and thinner. Lavender is not as strong as I expected – it is there, but it does not stand out. Overall, while it is not an iconic scent, I think it is a nice addition to Shalimar family.

What say you about the lemon and vanilla levels?

I think they added some vanilla, although I feel this is more Shalimar with a lower level of its dark, leathery acсord than Shalimar with more vanilla. I can smell lemon, but it does not stand out. It makes the fragrance brighter and lighter but lacks juiciness and tartness of your typical lemon scent. And I think it is more lemon peel than its flesh.

Yes, I got a sample. Funny thing is that when I first tried it yesterday my initial thoughts were: 1) yes, this is definitely a Shalimar (I was afraid it would smell nothing like it), 2) I can barely smell lavender, so lovestosmellgood may like it. 🙂
Truth be told, it becomes a bit more generic after a while – less like a Shalimar and more like a nice fresh vanilla scent. I like it, but I do not love it. It feels soft and cuddly. I am keeping my sample.

Well, my mother smelled it from another room (my door was open) when I applied, so the initial projection is good, but I think it sticks closer to skin later. Longevity… I can smell it very well about two-three hours later, but only if I bring my wrist to the nose.

    Good morning Y’all,

Feeling like a proper lady in a 2002 version of Lancome Climat! I truly was born in the wrong perfume decade….my favorites seem to be from the 60’s and 70’s.

Already thinking about the Friday challenge and wondering if I’ve tried anything from this year? LOL Surely I have a sample of something on my mess of a desk! 🙂

It’s sooooooooo good!! I hope you love it too. Please let me know if your bottle or box has a batch code if you have a chance? My bottle came from Fragrancebuy.ca so I know it’s legit, and I understand that some of the older Climat bottles don’t have a batch code, but it still bugs me! 🙂

Anyhoo, the box a copyright of the Lancome logo of 2002, so that’s the year I’m guessing it was bottled?

It’s an old style goodie! Think of Guerlain Mitsouko, Estee Lauder Youth Dew, or Guerlain Vol de Nuit. Lots of aldehydes, civet, and a bouquet of flowers…..sooooooo great!

Totally yes! The smell is just reminiscent of my childhood memories I think, though I can’t always pin down the smell…..

Both my grandmothers wore this style perfume, so I love these kind of scents. It’s a warm hug from both of them!

    Pre-shower Carmindy wanderlove
A friend of mine who is a qvc shopper gave me a bottle of this and I think it fits the CP since I think is a 2020 fragrance.
Notes are ..aquatic and..beachy. A young fresh fragrance that is light and airy, almost like a body splash. I would never buy this for myself.

Your comment about never buying it for yourself made me laugh. One time I was sniffing with a friend at the mall and there was something- I don’t even remember what it was- that we sniffed and I said, “Eh, not for me. It smells too clean. I don’t like to smell clean,” lol. Immediately regretted how that came out haha.

But dinner out alone last night was good, and even the cat didn’t seem overly harassed when we got home. Despite all my mother-in-law’s worries, it was fine. From a decant, generously shared with me by a wonderful NSTer.

Peppery and full of citrus so far, and I think the musky base is already peeking through. It’s like a cologne turned up to an 11. 🙂

I actually enjoyed all the others, haven’t seen the Paltrow version in so long as to remember any critical opinions. The Taylor-Joy version has some defects, down to directing and script. Clueless will always be beloved.

Nice choice Robin! We’re also expecting The big storm, I’m waiting for my kids to arrive back from school, they have a half-day today due to the impending weather.

I’m wearing Jovan musk cologne, I got it on Amazon for about $10, and I’m keeping it by my sugar in the kitchen so I see it every day. I think of it as my “trainer” perfume. I didn’t wear this in the 80s or 90s and I have no reference point for it. I do recognize the smell of white musk however – smells like some thing a lot of girls wore – so to me that smells more juvenile, but it also kind of reminds me something I imagine Maria Antoinette would be thrilled if she got her hands on it.

I gave a lot of my samples and unused bottles to my neighbor who loves perfume and also has two teenage daughters. Now that I have less perfume I’m wearing it more!

No SOTD, yet, but I think I will reach for my decant of Le Lion, inspired by all the love it’s getting here these days!

Our nearly brand new furnace (new when we purchased the house a year and a half ago) is being fussy, just in time for winter, and Mr. Spicebomb is taking it personally. Somehow water is trickling down the pipes into the pilot light area, preventing it from igniting. We have a service call on the way, eventually, but in the mean time we are having to play with it and try to convince it to get going. We’ve had some cold mornings this week.

I made peanut butter peanut brittle last night to enjoy and share in little Christmas treat tins I’m slowly putting together. It’s lovely, like the inside of a Butterfinger, but without the gross fake vanilla taste. Kinda hard to break into pieces, though. I might be giving folks teensy little shards of brittle instead of proper pieces.

Been there, done that. It happens when the exhaust pipe tilts upwards too much, and it’s cold enough to condense the moisture in the pipe. So then it trickles back into the furnace, yay. We had to re-jigger the slope of our exhaust pipe, and we put a small hole in the bottom of the pipe so the water could drip out instead of running back.

Yes, we were wondering if it was something like that. Was it a big deal to “rejigger the slope?” We’re hoping it doesn’t require a contractor, etc?

For us, the exhaust pipe was fully accessible (under the house) so we just adjusted the straps that were holding it up.

Avignon but honestly because it’s still on my blouse from a few weeks ago. That probably sounds gross, but I only wore it for a couple of hours and didn’t eat or anything, so I just threw it back on the hanger. When I put it on, just decided to go with the Avignon that still lingered on it.

Not gross at all! If you didn’t spill something on it, or sweat up a storm in it, you’re fine. Especially if the clothing is dry clean only.

Clothing should be washed when it’s dirty or smells bad. Unnecessary cleaning is just bad for the environment and reduces the lifespan of your garment.

      TL;DR: You’re not gross!

Good morning. I am wearing Quelques Fleurs today and drinking a cup of green tea.

This past weekend I went Christmas shopping for myself. I bought a bottle of Houbigant Quelques Fleurs and a bottle of Chanel Cristalle. I have tried Cristalle in the past and it has never really “clicked” with me. That changed over the weekend, and I love my new bottle of Cristalle.

I have been alternating these two fragrances over the past few days.

The furnace people came and of course the furnace was not making the noise that prompted me to call them. The repair lady seemed a little annoyed with me, and I felt she was being condescending. She replaced a small part, that doesn’t make noise. Idk.. I’m supposed to call if I hear it again.
I used my new soft soap Sweet Honeysuckle and Orange shower gel. I realized I need more flowery florals in my collection, lol. I’m wearing Carven L’eau de toilette because it’s flowery and happy smelling ?

It was Natalie Merchant on the ipod this morning for the walk that I took before the rain starts again. The Ipod is old and the battery only lasts 3-4 hours and Apple wants $169 to fix it. I think that’s more than I paid for it way back when. It’s so tiny it fits in any pocket, or even my cleavage, and my phone is too big to lug around. Anyone here have suggestions for a replacement?

I’m wearing 2 small spritzes of Delina this morning, I have to go get my Prolia injection and don’t want to gas out the nurse.

No scent yet… once I get done with the dishes I’ll be opening up my new bottle of Chanel Gabrielle Essence, because PEACH. I think Ede gets the enabler pin for this one.

It’s holiday baking time! Yesterday I made shortbread for the first time ever and it came out wonderfully. The only downside was that the recipe is small so we are halfway thru the pan already…! Even the cat loves shortbread. It’s an adventure trying to eat some with the cat on my lap – he keeps trying to dive in between my hand and my mouth to steal a bite for himself.

We have a rainstorm coming tonight (yay), need to get out and go for a walk before the rain comes. Hoping all of you expecting snow stay safe and warm.

    http://themoderndiylife.blogspot.com/2012/12/diy-christmas-tree-stand.html

Happy birthday Jane Austen! Wouldn’t it be great to take her to a library or bookshop and show her all her books still on the shelves. I went to a Christmas party at my favourite library yesterday. It’s in the port, about half way up the harbour so it was a lovely drive around the bays, sparkling water etc. i wasn’t going to go but I could hear my mother telling me I should make the effort to be more social….and I met lots of nice people and we sat around drinking tea and eating cake, and then drove back home over the hills which are covered in clover and red poppies. I like the smell of the port, that mixture of sea and tar. Wearing Stash today.

The link is for the christmas tree in a bucket method. He has forgotten to add water, plus there is no need to buy rocks or wash them, but it gives the idea. You can use broken bricks, gravel, smashed concrete…whatever is handy.

Happy Birthday Jane Austen! One of my favorite authors. She would have been 245 years old today, and not look a day over 230. I’ll betcha if this was a normal year, Chawton House would have been doing something really fun for her special day. Bummer.

No scent today, just preparing to be blissfully snowed in, possibly tomorrow too. Went for a brief walk, said hello to our friendly neighborhood resident red-tailed hawk, who was hanging out on some telephone wire, quite possibly looking for lunch, and then decided to come in when my chin started freezing. If anyone is driving in the storm today, please be safe!!

I plowed through every Jane Austen on my first contract in Singapore because I hadn’t realized how expensive books would be there (tiny island, imports cost a premium) and wound up finding a second-hand shop that mostly stocked university books. Loved everything but Persuasion.

In Dua Aoud Bleu Intense, inspired by the Fragrance du Bois of the nearly-identical name. It’s my go getter fragrance to counter the temperature still being -20 today but the sun having gone on strike!

Is there actually anywhere where I can look up 2020 releases?

I think I’m reading that site correctly: there are more than 3K entries for 2020! ?

I went halfway through the list last night and I did not even recognize half of the houses, let alone the fragrances. So far I’ve tried 3 new releases 🙂

I don’t think I have any CP-qualifying scents. All I did today was put on some rose oil with a spray or two of Stella on top. Was heading to a dental cleaning first thing in the morning. Brisk out there! Had to scurry home for a phone call…was providing a reference for a former co-worker. I hope I helped her cause…I think the position would be an excellent fit.

Not impressed by the snow so far.

I’m wearing Zoologist Musk Deer which is a very soft beautiful musky scent. It’s kind of addictive with some unidentified element that keeps me trying to guess what it is. It’s midway between vanilla, metal, and fur. Softly beautiful.

That was one of the samples I requested (but didn’t receive) in my recent Luckyscent order. I need to sample this.

Too bad, yes, DO sample it. It’s an easy one, not weird like so many of theirs are.

Ditto. I emailed them yesterday to complain that I hadn’t gotten any of my choices in my last order, and I got a very nice reply — and a promise to send the samples I’d asked for in a week or so. Yay!

It’s gradually healing, but I do still have pain in it and am taking my pain medicine. If I forget and accidentally lift something too heavy or squeeze something too hard, then Wow!–I feel it! But I’m sure it’s going to be fine. Thanks for asking.

Spent the morning hiding in the TV room while the cleaning woman did her thing for 3 hours. Now heading out in the sun for a walk with the dog. Wearing a candidate for best 2020 release, Gallagher Behold Patchouli.

I love the Gallagher perfume names. I’m waiting for the pineapple fiends to weigh in about Fineapple. 🙂

You smell great. The first time I wore it I over sprayed on a warm day and it was too much. But the 2nd time on a fall day w/ a more restrained trigger finger, 😉 it was wonderful.

I’ve been watching big, fat snowflakes fall for most of the afternoon today. A cup of hot cocoa with mini marshmallows was the perfect break earlier. The switch over to sleet and rain hasn’t happened yet, but is still expected to happen (yuck). Both cats have draped themselves over the heat vents right now.

SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Cuir Impertinent, from the sample stash and an NSTer of notable generosity. On me, it is mostly tobacco and leans masculine.

        Thanks lillyjo!

The weather changed over to sleet around 6pm for me. I am still hearing it hit the windows every so often. It’s horrible outside. Not gonna go anywhere!

Yes, we’ve been hearing the howling of the wind and the sound of sleet hitting the windows of the house. And I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow, either.

I think your cats have the right idea about it being the kind of weather that calls for lying on the heat vents. 🙂

Sleet is horrible! Rain I can handle, even cold rain, and snow is beautiful, but I can think of nothing good to say about sleet.

Yeah, it’s heinous outside. Sometime in the past 30 minutes, the sleet changed over to rain. I had about 4 inches of snow before it changed over.

Hello! Quiet day for me. I was glad I didn’t have to go anywhere. I unwittingly joined Jalapeno earlier today in drinking hot chocolate with mini marshmallows. lol — great minds think alike?

Scent at bedtime last night and this morning: more of the lavender-scented oil for my skin. My hands are a little better, I think. Maybe I’ll do the lavender oil tonight and add a spray of Jicky.

Take care, folks, and stay warm, my fellow East Coast people!

I’m joining at least one or two others in Le Lion today. Undina sent me a sample when we swapped some weeks back, and I’m very glad to have it. I like it a lot, but I think it’s similar enough to other perfumes I have, so I doubt I’ll seek out a bottle, at least not right away. I don’t think I tried enough new perfumes to have a true favorite, but I am using this week to wear 2020 perfumes. So far I’ve worn Smell Bent A Scent Called Home and Chris Rusak Dub. Enjoyed them both very much.

In L’Eau Trois by Diptyque. Seems like a perfect fragrance for a grey and rainy day. It always reminds me of cathedrals and wine caves in France.

Wearing Angel Innocent, I was afraid it would be discontinued but it still seems to be available. It is much easier to wear than the original Angel.

I think Mugler under L’oreal is going to discontinue quite a few. Mugler USA has been having sales like crazy since summer. Often buy one get one free.

Veddy veddy late to the party!

Sticking snow and wind outside…very cold. I hope I don’t lose power. Worst day to be expecting a package, which finally came, of course, to be opened tomorrow because mail quarantine.
