Tuesday scent of the day 11/3

Posted by Robin on 3 November 2020 281 Comments

It's Tuesday, and in the US, Election Day. Do vote, if you haven't already. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: staying reasonably chill, so far, in Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate. Tea at the moment is a latte from a local shop, incense is Fred Soll piñon.

Reminder: 11/6 will be Nostalgia Friday...wear something that takes you back to a happy moment in your childhood. Suggested by starling.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    What a unique espresso cup!
It’s a gorgeous sunny fall day. We’ve had 2 days of extreme wind, so there’s a carpet of pristine gold on the ground.
Wearing Eau Premiere–its sandalwood drydown seems appropriately fallish.

Hello loves, Gucci Memoire as I go off to vote. Bleh. I think I get too worked up emotionally and honestly makes me not even want to participate. I honestly hate politics for the most part but I should vote I suppose. It’s mixed feelings..I feel patriotic but yet unsettled. I have a cute scarf with red, white and blue stars on it. Honestly, I would rather be home but I guess it’s my duty. I am just not enthused..why? I will keep my thoughts to myself. I smell great and honestly my Higher Power is greater than all of this stuff..so don’t worry be happy I guess:) sigh

Got up early and have been Getting Stuff Done. I read the newspaper this morning, but beyond that am determined not to look until tomorrow. Instead, will do some reading for school and have my piano lesson this afternoon to look forward to.

Am wearing Coco Mad Intense, from a sample. Exactly what it says on the tin. I like Coco Mad; it was my first “real perfume” and I went through two bottles in my twenties. But this one’s a little much. I tried the L’eau Privee briefly on my trip to Sephora. Also exactly as described. If perfume dollars were unlimited, I would have bought a bottle for nostalgia’s sake, but alas! they are not.

I’m in warm, cozy, slightly bitter Sandalo Misore from I Profumi di Firenze on this chilly fall morning. I bought a bunch of scents from I Profumi, the actual shop in the Loggia dei Lanzi, when we were in Florence years ago, and they’re not really on the radar but many of them are just terrific: this one is a favourite.

I see they’ve discontinued it, possibly because Mysore sandalwood is no longer a thing, but they have two other sandalwoods, Malaysia and India. I wonder what those smell like….

Staying relaxed wearing CdG Jaisalmer. This scent always reminds me of ElisaP from whom I got my partial bottle a while ago. Big thanks to her!

Sunnier and warmer day than yesterday, but still cold. I voted at 6:30am when it wasn’t so crowded, then tracked online my mother’s mail in ballot, which was already received. I will limit the amount of news for the rest of the week and try to stay cool on a crazy, busy working week where I have to go to the office tomorrow and Thursday.

Drinking a cup if iced coffee and having a granola bar.
Have a healthy and peaceful day, everyone! ??

Does anyone have experience with New Jersey’s covid travel restrictions? My MIL’s health has taken a sudden turn for the worse, so DH is trying to figure out if traveling to NJ to see her makes sense. The NJ state govt website says that they have a 14-day quarantine for travelers, but it’s voluntary. What does that mean???

    I’m in Aedes Oeillet Bengale.

Did anyone here heard the rumours that the brand is discontinued? On Saturday I wore Cierge de Lune and few people on my IG commented that their fragrances are becoming harder to find online and that they are stopping the production.
    Is this true?

You smell wonderful! They still have their perfumes up on their website at least. Oeillet Bengale can still be purchased but Cierge de Lune is sold out, so don’t know if they’ve stopped production of it overall.

Just in case, now I’m even more glad that I got that travel spray of Oeillet Bengale from Pixel in the last splitmeet!

Woke up super early to vote. Got to my polling place to vote at quarter to 7 this morning and there was a huge line, I mean, wrapped around a medium sized parking lot. Spent around 45 minutes to an hour in line. Then had to run to the store to get half and half, milk and some eggs. Had an online doctor’s appointment earlier. Still in Lyric but taking a shower to switch to something else.

    SotD is Sycomore edt!
One of the few Chanel scents that really works for me.

    Newsflash:
    I bought a FB!
Its been ages since I made a perfume purchase. I think last time was in May (Bandit).

My collection welcomes L’âme perdue by Le Galion ❤️❤️❤️

That is definitely THE perfume discovery for me this year. Thanks to a lovely NSTer who sent me a decant.
It was love at first sniff and without a doubt most worn scent in 2020. ?

Yes, that espresso cup is great!

I’m in En Passant this morning for the CP. Lilac always reminds me of a bottle of perfume I got from St. Nicholas in my shoes when I was seven or eight. It was this adorable plastic rollerball bottle, purple, in the shape of a doll, and it had lilac perfume in it. I’ve liked lilac perfumes ever since.

And that’s reminding me that now that Halloween / kid birthday are over, I have to launch into Christmas (sigh) and think about filling her Advent calendar and getting St. Nikolaus gifts.

For anyone voting today, thank you, and good luck with the lines.

I am in a fluff of happiness.
It’s officially the kick off of the holidays when we meet. She’s been In Quarantine since March and is our dearest and close-est relative on my husband’s side. We have shared many a Christmas champagne flute together. I also just lost my sister-in-law to a rapid and horrid ALS diagnosis .

Sistine, I don’t know if you are aware of/use peel off base coat, but if you don’t use it, it is the BEST thing ever. Allows for sparkle polish removal with no hassle. And it’s perfect in these stressful times, because you can pick off your polish without damaging your nails.

Started wearing Lalique White which would be a wonder if the clean musks were turned down several notches. Of course the bergamot, tamarind, and spices disappear too soon leaving only the smell of clean laundry hanging around forever, so I sprayed a bit of Noir Patchouli over the top to rough it up.

Wearing YSL Libre intense and wish you all luck. I always have trouble with visually scanning US election graphs because of the red/blue assignment of colours to parties. In NZ ( and Britain etc) Red is Labour ( left) and Blue conservative (right) so I was curious why it is the opposite in USA. I found a few articles to explain the colour coding and it seems to be a very modern distinction, dating from 2000.

Calm spring day here. Yesterday I watched a hawk attack a duck walking with six ducklings. The hawk kept swooping down on the ducklings and the duck kept trying to fend it off. The duck managed to get all the ducklings into some very long grass for cover.

Wearing Elizabeth Taylor’s Gardenia this morning because I had a dream about buying a beautiful gardenia-scented perfume oil and figured I must have been craving it. Does anyone else have dreams like that? Mine usually involve finding a rare or expensive perfume in a secondhand store or antiques mall.

Shalimar Cologne, because apparently, the weather will soon turn more autumnal, so this is a last hurrah. Beautiful day, dropped my ballot off at the high school, and it was neither very busy (the auditorium is huge) nor grim. People with strollers, people walking their dogs, everyone looking mostly happy to have a reason to be out, perhaps, especially since the school is still almost 100% online.

Making curry rice Doria tonight, which is a yoshoku recipe, a Japanese take on western food. It’ll be piping hot rice topped with minced vegetables and ground beef in a mild curry sauce, topped with broiled mozarella and Romano cheese. Japanese curry is delish but it’s comfort/home food you can make yourself ?

They make prepackaged curry roux blocks (S&B is the most popular but there’s different brands) that taste awesome that you can find at many Asian grocers. All you do is add is meat and veggies.

If you’re going to go to a restaurant, sushi or stuff that’s similarly fussy to prepare is definitely the way to go! ?

I got to an Asian market today and got a lot of ingredients for making Vietnamese or Thai food. I thought I’d gotten just about all the ingredients for tom yum soup, but then realized that I hadn’t gotten galangal(sp?). But I got rice noodles (maifun) and bean thread noodles (saifun) and various sauces, and will be able to make quite a variety of meals.

I voted by mail a month ago and also checked to confirm that the ballot had been received by my county elections office.

I have samples from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Jazmin Saraï, and the upcoming Arielle Shoshana Zoom with Swedish perfumer Maya Njie to try.

This morning it was DSH Planes and Poplars, which I liked. It reminds me of one of the April Aromatics, possibly Calling All Angels, but a bit softer and less ornate. I would love to have a small bottle but my entire collection would be DSH if I bought all the ones I like.

I’m also liking the Jazmin Saraï samples that I’ve tested so far. I plan to get started on the Maya Njie samples tonight.

    Hello!

My bedtime scent last night was Jicky again. I’ve been finding that very soothing. 🙂 Something with lavender tonight, too, I think.

We voted by mail weeks ago, as soon as we got our ballots, and we know they were received, but it will take a while yet for Pennsylvania’s mail-in ballots to be counted. It’s nerve-wracking, though.

Tomorrow I’ll try to cook some kind of world cuisine dinner. There was an interesting-looking recipe for turmeric rice, but I think Mom will have Opinions about turmeric. 😛

I got a big bag of birdseed and some suet from Home Depot. Dad and I have enjoyed watching the birds the last few days. I was putting labels by my garden plants in a spot to the west of the house, some yards from where the birdfeeders are. A red-bellied woodpecker must have gotten impatient waiting for me to leave the area, because he flew over to the birdfeeder and started eating while I was still in the backyard. Then a chickadee came to the other birdfeeder. I know chickadees can be pretty bold about feeding while people are around. 🙂 We filled the birdfeeders around sunset — beautiful sunset this evening, and Dad was commenting on it — and I’m sure the birds will be at them come sunrise. 🙂

    Have a good week, folks!
