Absolutely delightful

Posted by Robin on 14 October 2020 6 Comments

The hand sanitiser, in a particularly New Zealand turn of events, has gone viral by local standards on social media, with many viewing it as a metaphor for the country’s comparatively pleasant electoral campaign. One Twitter user described it as “awesomely fragrant”; another deemed it “absolutely delightful”, and a third called it “delicious.”

— The lemon-scented hand sanitizer at polling sites in New Zealand is apparently a hit. Read more (and if you are in the US, perhaps weep a little at the entirety of the drama-free electoral process) at 'Scent of democracy': fragrant hand sanitiser ticks box for New Zealand's early voters at The Guardian.

I voted the other day but have no recollection at all of the hand sanitiser’s smell…so a big cross against my name.

    Sounds lovely on many levels.

I was surprised by the photo which shows voters with masks, but the people working the polls without. Even if they think they’ve vanquished COVID, I would just be more comfortable as a voter if everyone had a mask since it’s inside.

I’ll be voting tomorrow, and am quite looking forward to the hand sanitiser 🙂
