Poor kid, he called me last week- never a good sign when he wants to actually call me- and he dislocated his shoulder. Again.? I was not surprised when he told me the orthopedic is recommending surgery.

Hi all! I’m back in my house and all is well other than some sad garden plants. The time with my family was incredibly restorative and I’m jumping right back into work today — the preserve I manage burned in the fire, so I’m headed out there today for a first look. Wearing Sous le Vent since I have a mild professional crush on my agency escort for the day. 😉 The first time I wore this one to work I realized the guy sitting next to me in a meeting had the hots for me by the way he kept sneaking looks at me (we wound up briefly dating), and at a dentist appointment later that day the guy standing in for my usual dentist gave me a neck rub and complimented my dimples. Which was sort of skeezy, but I’m convinced it was the perfume!

Thanks for the kind thoughts — fortunately the preserve is just fine. California landscapes are pretty resilient to fire and it looks like good, moderate fire effects across the whole preserve in spite of the crazy wind and excess understory trees. I was planning a series of prescribed burns to start knocking it back, so mother nature just got in ahead of me! 🙂
So sorry about the preserve. Cannot even begin to imagine the damage and how this has impacted so many. Will need lots of TLC in the coming months and years ahead.
The only damage was from suppression activities; otherwise it looks great! I’m used to fire, though, so it’s easy for me to put on my wildland fire glasses and see fire impacts as extremely temporary. In wild landscapes, that is — the impacts to the community and the people who lost homes is completely horrible.
Glad to hear that your house is OK! What a pity about the preserve, though. We need spaces like that.
Isabey Fleur Nocturne (from a decant), even though it is not nighttime and the scent is a gardenia-tuberose floral, not usually my thing. But it’s *awfully* good, a classic narcotic floral with a slightly modern twist. I don’t know that I’d buy a full bottle, but under the right circumstances I might….

I will mark his passing again on election day, since he promised he was going to live long enough to vote again — and he did try.
But do not forget that your dad, just like mine, would NOT want you to miss any bit of life while being sad about him!

More like twins…with that big hair, charming smiles and similar height. And, because I’m so clueless I didn’t know it was Eddie on MJ’s “Beat It”, which is peak ‘80s. Incredibly creative man.

For a short while, she wouldn’t even do play dates by herself anymore. Now that she’s a brand new teenager, we still sometimes get the “mom?” even though we are also mostly home. 🙂 I think for her, it’s partly because she often doesn’t fully pay attention.

Wore Shalimar Ode a la Vanille this morning but since I’ve shower, I am in Givenchy III. I found that the financial windfall won’t be in my bank account until the first week of November. Wish it would be in my account in the next 2 weeks. Last night was kind of a good day. Took an Amazon survey to get a $3 gift card applied to my account. Like I was going to refuse that. They finally gave me the code yesterday. It will come in handy when Prime Day comes and there are good deals. I am hoping that a few of the books I want will be on sale.
There’s also a promotion, not sure if it’s still on, where if you purchase $50 or more from a While Foods grocery trip, you get $10 towards Prime Day.
I don’t order from Whole Foods because they don’t deliver to my area and they aren’t close by either. First world problem but I am going to be adding a little of funds more toward Prime Day but not much though.
It’s easy to spend $50 at WF. Need to look for that.

I loved Van Halen. Eddie always looked like he was having fun and what a talent. Given the amount of smoking, drinking and drugs some of our rock stars lived through, I’m sometimes amazed any of them are still alive (but glad that they are). I’ll be in Lyric today for the loss of our music stars, including John Lennon.
I have seen many pictures lately of EVH in his much later years with the ever present cigarette in his hand. It’s sad, but I am also not surprised.

Love the Beatles but finding it very hard to match a perfume to the songs. Wearing No 19 edp today, which might go with something chilly like Day in the Life. RIP Eddie Van Halen and mad props for his amazing solo on MJ’s Beat It. Love Radiohead; The Bends is probably my favorite album. Kid A is so dystopian. Current fave is Thom Yorke’s True Love Waits from Moon Shaped Pool. So sad.

Got samples of Iris Shot, Violet Shot, and Rose Shot in the mail yesterday and wearing the first of these today. I fear I love it. Also Violet Shot, which I wore yestereday (although I wish it lasted a bit longer). Fortunately they have 15ml sprays, or else I’d be in big trouble.
I am waiting for my Iris Shot and Violet Shot travel sprays to arrive. They were love at first sniff from samples via the Lucas-undina-hajusuuri swap-split!
Yay! I can actually imagine going through 15ml pretty easily to be honest. (I have the heavy hand, haha!) But will hold off on a big bottle since they are so pricey.

The iris is sort of like Iris Silver Mist’s younger, more approachable cousin. I love ISM, but sometimes you want a little bit of a lighter hand maybe? Violet Shot has a hit of patchouli that gives the violet a little bit if a rough edge that I really like. Not as patch heavy as, say Dirty Violet, though. Rose Shot to me is pretty straightforward bergamot-turkish rose. Nice, but I have a lot of roses.
What are you favorite violets? I am always seeking new ones.
I may not be much help because my favorite violet is Insolence, Insolence and Insolence! Nuts I know! Edp, Eau Glacee and edt. Then Kenzo Flower, and Apres l’Ondee. One I have that I don’t know quite as well is Sonia Rykiel Woman. Peppery violet leather. Your Shots descriptions are relatable and the iris does sound good. I have ISM and like it as a work of art more than a go-to.

Absent the now limit of x people inside an elevator car, I don’t mind pressing another person’s floor as long as I am standing by the only floor selector (which I am always at going up since I am on floor 2). When I used to work in the 12th floor, I stand in the far back corner so there is zero chance of me being asked to press someone else’s floor. We also have some elevators where you press your own button from the elevator bank and it tells you which car to take.

Monthly will always be a candle and a perfume, same size as the ones shown, but the scent is a surprise. The nice thing is that you can redirect the monthly boxes to another recipient. Overall, it is great value: $22 for shipping the magical box and $34 / month for 12 months (for 12 perfume / candle combo) and it’s not charged until right before it’s shipped. A quick perusal of the fine print before I took the plunge indicates I can stop it at any time (I think the Uniform Commercial Code requires the cancellation feature, but I could be wrong).

It is almost like an upscale baby shampoo. There is osmanthus in the scent itself; L’Oreal Mythical Oil shampoo contains osmanthus although I’ve never tried it, ymmv.
