Tuesday scent of the day 10/6

Posted by Robin on 6 October 2020 222 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Noodle Day and German-American Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am cheating, a little, on the community project by pairing George's My Sweet Lord with Diptyque Tam Dao. Tea at the moment is the very basic Harney CTC Assam: what to drink when you can't wait even 5 minutes for your tea.

Reminder: on 10/9 we're doing Beatlemania...celebrate John Lennon's birthday by naming your favorite Beatles or John Lennon song, and wear the perfume to match.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Sshhh… don’t tell anyone, but I have 3 hrs to myself at home! I’m wearing Coromandel from a decant from a generous Nster. I’m matching it with The Beatles song “A little help from my friends”
    My favorite version

I’m done with my second espresso, so I’m right there with you. I’ve been trying to cut down on caffeine, so I’m sneakily (yeah, like I’m really fooling myself) mixing in greater parts of decaf with regular grounds. Apparently I’m just going to make up for it by drinking more.

    I’m in Over the Musk.
Elevator etiquette question and mini rant. If I’m the first person getting on an elevator, am I obligated to press the floors for everybody else? I don’t know why I find this so irritating, it’s not really a big thing, but I just do. When someone says to me “will you press 2 please?” in my head I’m thinking Are Your Arms Broken?!?! But of course I don’t and just press the button anyway. I don’t want to be touching any more of those dirty buttons than I have to, and that was true even before covid. Just because I’m the first one on doesn’t make me the elevator concierge.? I literally never ask people to do that for me unless they are standing in front of the buttons making it very difficult for me to reach without invading their personal space. Anyway, rant over, thanks for listening.?

I’m rarely in an elevator, but I can only see asking if the first person is in front of the panel. Even then, I would say excuse me and press it myself. What annoys me is people trying to get on before the other people get off.

Can you make sure you pick a corner away from the buttons when you get in? I guess it’s more challenging if in front of the buttons is your only option. I get it though.

This – stand far away from the panel. And if you are ever the first person in an elevator that smells like a fart, exit immediately and take another one.

Interesting. I usually ask if the person is standing in front of the panel because it does seem like invading someone’s space to reach across them. I apologize if I have ever done this to you!

But if I am standing in front of the panel, I usually ask people what floor they want, for the same reason…I don’t want them in my personal space.

Whenever I am in an elevator, I’m always asked by whoever is standing in front of the panel and pressing buttons for themselves what floor I need. So, I always assumed that to be the etiquette, and I do the same, should I happen to be there first. But I’m an extremely pragmatic germaphob: one button or 10, my hand is already dirty, and I’ll need to clean it as soon as I can anyway 🙂

SOTD: Coromandel (already getting text complaints from my husband who can smell this in the other room – lol)

Went to the farmer’s market this weekend to scout out the apples available and was disappointed with so few “exotic” varieties. I did pick up a couple of Braeburn, a first for me, and was immediately smitten. Too bad these are not availalbe in regular markets. Snacking well this week!

I’ve had a Norwegian Wood/This Bird Has Flown ear worm all morning, but after reading about what that phrase actually (supposedly) referred to (very cheap wood panelling), I don’t really want to pair anything with it. SOTD is Carthusia 1681 (again) – running late and getting a flu shot later this morning, so I’ll give a song pairing some thought as I careen through my day.

SOTD so far is SL Fleurs de Citronnier, another old sample thunked. This one is one of the very first I bought when I started getting into perfume…over a decade ago. (Hard to believe!) It’s bringing me back to 2008!

I’m wearing Eiderantler by January Scent Project today. Every time I wear it, I love it more. Maybe I should have bought the larger bottle?

So many Beatles songs to love. The first one to pop into my head this morning was Girl, which I’m pairing with Boyfriend body oil and perfume. Except now I can’t find Girl on Spotify so apparently I don’t have the right title – it goes “is there anyone to listen to my story all about the girl who came to stay….” Even my husband, who’s knowledge of music is like an encyclopedia, can’t think of the title (he’s the one who said Girl.) At least I smell good.

I think “Can’t buy me Love” & “She Loves You’ really takes one back in time and you FEEL that adolescent thrill of hearing music for the first time that you KNEW was SO different…..
I see John and Paul crooning, tipping their heads, singing into the microphones!
    So handsome.
    So fan girlish for me.
Man I have to think hard on what my favorite song would be.

Today is my day – maybe it will help with the slightly foul mood I woke up in! 🙂 (I’m referring to German-American day).
Bucoliques de Provence, because it’s always good.
Tea of the day is Fortnum and Mason’s Wedding Breakfast – been meaning to share with you that you can get quite a few of the Fortnum and Mason teas at Williams and Sonoma.
I’m on hold with our vet – they merged/bought another practice and now you’re stuck on lengthy “fuer Elise” loops when you call – only the first few measures, of course!

Dad has two younger sisters, and the older of the two was a big Beatles fan. Also, my brother got into the Beatles when he was in his teens, and would play the Beatles record albums that Mom and Dad have.

I remember on early MTV seeing and hearing a video with the song title, or at least a line from the song, being: “It’s much too late for goodbyes.” The living participant in the song was a son of John Lennon’s.

It was good! We mainly visited with family friends there. It was definitely not as busy as I’ve seen it before. We didn’t stay on the Strip, so I can’t speak to that, we didn’t even make it to it. We did go downtown to Freemont Street, the older casino area and it was nice. Busy but not as busy as I’ve seen it before. Definitely still hot lol.

Hi there awesome smelling people! I’m new here; I just discovered you. I also just discovered a vintage (1970’s) bottle of Eau Arpege among my mother’s things. I’ve been cleaning out the things I cleaned out of my parent’s house.
It’s beautiful after the 10 minutes you recommended to wait for the damaged top notes to die down.
See! I’ve already learned something important thanks to you! Before NST, I might not have tried it after sniffing it in the bottle. Then it just would have sat on a shelf looking pretty. Now, I get to enjoy it. Thank you so much, and for having me here. ?

Not much of a Beatles fan so I’ll likely be off CP all this week. Enjoyed reading comments last week but didn’t have the energy to write myself.

In my Viktoria Minya bespoke today, smelling like blackcurrant and orange blossom, with a rice pudding cheesecake pie just out of the oven.

Mr. Teebear coming downstairs says “does it smell like apples?”… Actually not a half-bad guess!

No idea how the cheesecake pie turned out yet, but the oven will go back on tonight to make Chicken Marbella, which is also a new recipe for me. Hoping at least 1 out of 2 is edible!

The second day of my staycation. Still in bed (10 am), but plan to get up, do some quick perfume testing before the shower and then decide what to do next.

I had a perfume dream tonight. Can’t remember the details clearly, but I remember that my friend and I both applied some perfume from my newly acquired decant (so, it wasn’t a favorite bottle but rather something that I bought to try), she didn’t like it, so I expressed the hope it won’t stay on her skin for too long. At the same time my vSO whispered to me something rather frivolous that suggested that he liked it on me. If I could only remember what perfume it was! 🙂

Sacrilege I know, but I just don’t have a lot of Beatles songs in my head. They weren’t really my band… But I remember a six-hour radio retrospective from when I was in high school. I remember it because my family was leaving our cabin in the Sierras during a snowstorm to head back home in the Bay Area. It started just as we got in the car and ended right as we pulled up to our house. A six hour ride that was normally 3.5 hours.

Shalimar Eau de Cologne again. It’s become a fairly frequent scent since early in the summer.

Oh! I got to sniff and wear Bitter Peach over the weekend. It’s peach. That’s all I can say. I didn’t notice much else.

    SOTD = Maya Njie Tobak

Tobak is the 3rd of the 5 travel sprays I bought: spicy, vetiver, tobacco. Like the first 2, overall fairly light and I bet, like the other 2, will likely last in the 8-10 hour range with most of that time as a skin scent. It is very nice!

Le Parfum is richer and more wintery, with less floral and lots of benzoin. Still lots of vanilla, with amber too. It may be EdP vs EdT as well, but I’m not sure about that.

SOTD Eau de Royal Secret. Not fair to compare with the vintage Germaine Monteil or the Five Star Royal Secret edp but for a modern cheapey I think it handles itself very well. Paired with Her Majesty.

I bought the vintage version this summer, but have just sniffed the bottle. Too warm for testing, but now I will do this soon

Here’s a nice, acoustic diddy by Sean:

For scent, all I have worn is some coconut lotion and I forget the maker of it lol.

I was in a mood this morning and spent the first four hours packing boxes. Now I plan to sit and do nothing for the rest of the day. I may make chocolate chip cookies if I get motivated. Wearing MH La Fumée Ottoman, which is not nearly strong enough. Need another round of spritzes.

I hope the packing is going well. I vote “yes” for cookies, but know how much work they can be. You may need them for your trip!

The packing is going well, we can hardly walk in the flat. 😉 I am going to make cookies right now!

Up early this morning. Not sure what came over me, but JM Orange Bitters had just arrived at my Nordies, so I drove over and got a small bottle at the curbside pickup!

rolled over my 403b now starting in on Smart Sheet online classes since they use them at my new workplace.
Going to go through some work clothes later and get ready to donate later this week.
There’s a great place in Irvine where I also volunteer to help folks get their resumes and interview skills ready for the power of a paycheck.
The Beatles…as I sit here at my desk I am looking up at the framed program from when my sister and I saw them in August 1964.
One of the best days ever.

Dropping in real quick to report I’m wearing Wit, almost the last of one of my decants. I need to start trying the other daphne perfumes out there because I’m hoping I’ll like another enough to not be depondent when I run out of Wit.

Wish I could help with daphne perfumes, but I have no idea what that note smells like. Good luck with your search!

SOTD = DSH Vers la Voute Etoilée, which I just love. This means Toward the Starry Vault, so of course the Beatles song that goes with it is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, right? Got the CP totally by accident!

SOTD = Chamade EdT again. I’m trying to thunk a sample this month if I can. Will it be Chamade? Or something else? ?‍♀️

I’m wearing HdP Tubereuse 2 which I love, but applied sparingly, because not everyone around me does. I actually did some store shopping today and it felt so adventurous…. but I was quick moving around, in and out. I had to pick up some stuff to take out to Mom’s place. I never was much of a Beatles fan and am not sure I can come up with anything. Hmmm. Tomorrow I have a committee meeting for an international conference and the other people are in Melbourne, London, and Copenhagen. It will be at 7:15 a.m. my time. Most days I don’t get up before 10:30. I warned them I might be in my nightgown sitting up bleary-eyed in bed. If only the cats could make and bring me my coffee!

SoTD: Amber Tapestry By Mandy Aftel. I love this one even as it fades the cinnamon that shows up is amazing.
I may switch to Ambre Nargu
    ille for the evening.
This is a glorious sunny warm breezy day. It feels like the summer’s final gift.
