Thursday scent of the day 10/1

Posted by Robin on 1 October 2020 229 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to October, and happy International Day of Older Persons. (Plus, the freebiemeet is still open, and Donatella will be dropping by shortly). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Sweet Pine Tar, one of her "isolation meditation experience" fragrances. It is absolutely perfect.

Reminder: on 10/2, our subject is On the back roads by the rivers of my memory...do what you like with the lyric from the 1968 song Gentle on My Mind. Suggested by Mossyberry.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: The Hare Matchbox from Archivist ("A stylish and beautiful box of luxury matches, made from FSC wood and hand packaged in the UK. Each match is 4 inches long giving you extra burn time and each box contains 125 matches") is $12 at Beautyhabit.

    Coromandel.
I remembered the rabbits at 0016 last night (today). I don’t usually wake up that soon after going to sleep, but for some reason I did last night. September had a lot going on for me, hoping this month is a little less eventful.
Woke up to the sound of rain. Fingers crossed that rain before seven is done by eleven. Today is my Sunday before I head into a long work weekend. I will not miss 12 hour shifts in my new job.?

Yes. And now I’m already hearing the grumbles from my h and daughter that it’s too hot in here.? I need my college daughter home who’s cold like me all the time.
It looks like the weather is gonna be a bit warmer next week!??

It’s rough. I’ve done 12 hour shifts for the past three and a half years, which means that a weekend is 36 hours in a row.? I rarely feel my age but after a weekend of work I sure do! My new job will be back to 8 hour shifts and I’ll even get an extra half hour in the morning.?

In SSS Rose Musc. Such a pretty scent!

Beautiful fall day today before temps drop tonight. No more 70’s in the forecast ?.

Taking the afternoon off to take doggie Yei to an ear specialist appointment. It seems that he has become deaf. Every day is a new issue, but at 16 y.o. I should not complain. He has always been a very faithful companion and deserves all the love and possible care on his old years.

On my second cup of coffee and back to home/work desk.

    Happy Thursday! ?

I hope everything goes well for him. He had the same inflammation issue last year and treatment worked after one month. However, the vet said it may eventually become deaf permanently. Crossing fingers he recovers his hearing once again.

Same situation here. Otto Mi Gato is 16, and gets more finicky by the hour. Chopped chicken at 6:30 a.m. – yummy. At 2:00 p.m. – nope, he wants grain-free canned food, but only the beef variety, not the fish I opened first. At 7:00 p.m., the leftovers from the canned food (both fish and beef) are apparently no longer palatable; he wants whatever it is I’m eating for dinner. He’s taking meds for hyperthyroidism, and I’m constantly worried about him being underweight, so he gets just about any darn thing he wants to eat at this point. 🙂

Finicky for sure! ? But as long as he eats that is good! Yei doesn’t have much appetite because of his chronic pancreatitis. He rejects his food most of the time, but he would love to eat my food! That in his case is not possible, but he eventually eats when he gets a bit hungry.

In her later days, one of my former cats would only eat canned tuna, the stuff for humans not cats. As my vet said, well, if at her age all she wants to eat is kitty ice cream, so be it.

I missed the rabbits as I got an early phonecall.

I am currently waiting on perfume package so I’m not committing to anything at the moment. I put on a single spritz of Kenzo Air which lasts like an EdC on me. Lovely lovely though

    Rabbity rabbity rabbit.

Today it’s a fresh and sunny 13 degrees. Yesterday was an appalling 34 muggy degrees with the humidex, and WHAT THE HELL, autumn? I thought we were over this! By the time I got to work my shirt was stuck to my back, and within an hour all my clothing was damp (we don’t control the AC in the store, it’s done centrally from a whole different country, and customers sure were complaining about it). I actually went commando because I couldn’t deal with *anything*.

Today I am wearing the last of a sample of Parfum d’Empire Fougére Bengale, which it turns out I adore — curried lavender! — but I’m not buying a bottle because I expect it’s been reformulated and I doubt a new batch will smell anything like what I’ve become so fond of. Sad, isn’t it?

Sotd is Aedes de Venustas because it called my name. It smells like fall to me. The other day I stopped at ULTA and tried the new Chloe Tangerine. It starts out tangerine, and ends up ambroxan. Very disappointing.

SOTD is Carthusia 1681, a new-ish love for me. It’s woody in a sandalwood-y way, and herbal – the lavender in it is especially prominent today. Haze has returned here, and Mr. G says smoke has rolled back in (hard to tell right now as the haze looks mostly like low-lying fog). Sigh.

Got up super early this morning to go out to breakfast with a friend and wore no 5 eau Premiere. Got a bottle when it first came out. Since I have showered I am in a dab of Miss Dior. There might be a windfall coming from my place of work. I’m hoping so and if there is, I will get it soon. Hopefully, I will have that info today.

I am preparing for the 3rd quarter poll and realize I went on a sample buying binge of sorts during the last 3 months ? but these are tough times and tough times call for happy distractions I say.??

Wearing Gallagher Behold Patchouli for the 2nd time today which I quite enjoyed the first. I get strong spices, orange and chocolate in the opening and then a sweet, smoky patchouli in the middle and drydown which goes kind of gourmandish. The patchouli isn’t of the clean fruitchouli or head shop variety but more spicy and a bit herbal…website says they use an 8-year aged Indonesian patchouli which comprises over 10% of the fragrance concentrate.

Yesterday I had to take my husband to a dr. appt and so had a good 2 hrs to kill. I simply walked, very slowly, up and down blocks in the 50s on the west side and racked up 12000+ steps! It was a gorgeous fall day and I so enjoyed looking around and checking out the various buildings and landscaping.. I’m thinking I might start doing this more regularly — pick 5 or so blocks in the city to slowly walk up and down and just observe.

        I think that’s wonderful! 12,000 steps is a LOT.
I love the different view of the city by walking. It’s such a great opportunity to snoop (well, normally, we would snoop around) in stores we’ve never visited previously.

ELdO Like This today. Someone mentioned it a day or two ago, and it seems perfect to usher in October. I haven’t worn it for a long time. Not a sample, though, so not a part of my sample sorting project.

I’m SO ready for my partial day off tomorrow. I was completely wiped out last night — worked from 8 to 6, in meetings almost straight through. Just have to wrap everything up today (doing all the work the meetings generate) so I’m not stressing about what needs to be done for next week.

SotD = 34 boulevard Saint Germain

From a long ago manufacturer spray sample. So deep, so much to ponder in this scent, with a little bit of slightly rank, overripe funk.

It’s going to be hot weather again today, figured I might as well turn the funk up to an 11. ???

I had forgotten how much I adore 34bSG. It’s FB worthy for sure. ?

The other day a friend confided in me about how much they miss the smell of other people in crowded places. I have to agree, it’s been too long since I smelled someone’s perfume in the wild.

We had a red moon, even here (southern BC), and they’re calling it “fog” today on what was supposed to be a glorious fall week, but I strongly suspect it’s actually smoke.

SO ready for the end of this awful year. I’d like to see my family again (they’re just the other side of the border)…sigh. I suspect there could be much worse to come on that and other fronts, though.

SOTD is Akro Dark. Tea is an oolong of unknown origin. I must have forgotten to put the label in the tin. It’s nice.

    Rabbit x 3

    1) SOTD is Fresh cream Soft Suede- really easy caramel/musk scent.

    2) Super foggy today- this is the true sign on oncoming fall- the thick fog that slowly dissipates.

    3) Mr. Squirrel is more active than usual- or maybe I am at home and notice him more. He is always exploring and digging, and I am finding little underdeveloped apples, acorns, walnuts, etc all over.

I’ve noticed #3 as well! Most of the squirrels’ tails appeared to be in line with the body size but I was worried about one that was really skinny whose tail was very bushy and it appeared to be tenuously connected.

Did you see the squirrel obstacle course video that was going around earlier this summer? It’s one of my kid’s favourites. She particularly loves Phat Gus. She keeps bringing it up in random conversations with kids (mostly online), urging them them to watch it. (Now I feel like her!)

Bois d’Ombrie, again. I think I like it because it reminds me of something – perhaps a visit to a perfume store in Berlin a few years ago. I went with a friend who isn’t necessarily into perfumes but always ready to try anything, and with the patience to boot. This year, I was going to buy myself a of something there.
Even though I don’t think I smelled this particular scent there, I tried Eau d’Italie there for the first time.
The store is called “the different scent”, for those who are curious!

I’ve only been to the KaDeWe beauty floor and it felt more like a better Sephora with higher end exclusives. Quite overwhelming!

SSS Forest Walk today, which I think fits the CP and my own “use it up” project. I find this very similar to Equestrian of which I already have both a decant and a bottle, so I don’t need to acquire any more Forest Walk.

Well, my blow dryer started to spark while I was drying my hair today, which was really scary. Looks like I can get a replacement from Amazon pretty quickly, and I’m just glad the weather isn’t colder yet in case I need to air dry tomorrow. I have very long and thick hair, so it takes forever to air dry.

    FREEBIE ALERT RE-POST:
I can still send an approximately 5ml decant from a bottle of Lush Icon circa 2005 to one other regular NSTer in the US. Just dibs here and then email me via gmail using my NST username.

To answer your question from last night, yes, I have tried Soivohle’s Green Oakmoss. I have one of those cute little 10mL bottles, too. It reminds me of my vintage bottle of Ivoire from the 1980’s.

I rustled in among samples in a dish and pulled out Tom Ford Noir pour Femme which I am quite enjoying. For me at this point it’s a spicy rose. It is gorgeous weather again here today, yay! We deserve it after months and months of humidity and heat. Best wishes to those of you in danger from fires and to the dogs and cats who are older and ailing. I am celebrating International Older Person’s Day by doing not much of anything!

TF Noir pour Femme is really nice! I think it comes in a travel spray, too, so no need for one of those huge bottles…

    SOTD = Chanel Le Lion

House twins with a bunch, I bet! I did a hajusuuri dose and smell really good, in my unbiased opinion ?.

I finally opened my Making Scents of Studio 54 pack and what a treasure trove!

The perfumes include: Jovan Musk, Stephen B., Anais Anais, Z-14, Opium, Halston, DSH Musk Futura and DSH Fou d’Opium

I have a bottle of early 80s Opium and have smelled Jovan Musk and Anais Anais. The rest are a mystery!

Z-14 is one of the most manly colognes I’ve ever smelled. I wasn’t a fan. Over the Musk reminds me of a more upscale Jovan Musk. I like Halston, and Anais. Love Opium. I don’t know the others.

I was one of three girls, so we had lots of fragrances in the house. Strangely, only a couple from your list: Jovan Musk and Anais Anais (which was always a bit too sweet for me).
I have an older bottle of Opium, which I treasure. Off to read about the others! ?

I know what Opium and Anais Anais smell like, and I think I remember Halston (but not sure about that). I even have bottles of Opium EdT and EdP in my perfume wardrobe. I don’t know any of the others on your list. I’ll be interested in hearing your descriptions of them!

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one! It seems to be the only way I can remember to do it. I’m typically not clearheaded…like, at all, when I wake up—let alone sharp enough to remember my rabbits. ??
