Wednesday scent of the day 9/2

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2020 204 Comments

It's Hump Day and Blueberry Popsicle Day. Birthdays today: Keanu Reeves, Horace Silver, Salma Hayek, Billy Preston. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Kerosene Pretty Machine.

Reminder: on 9/4 we're doing Zest and Smoulder...wear a fragrance with citrus and smoky notes, or, layer two fragrances to achieve the same affect, or interpret the theme in whatever way works for your collection. Suggested by Glannys.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Rodin Bis today, which has lemon and bergamot for zest, and layered a bit of olibanum oil for smoulder.

Had a banana and peanut butter chip muffin for breakfast, myam! Hope everyone’s hump day is good.

I will try to guess why you chose this scent, Robin. Citrus notes = zest, name of the house = smoulder? I have never heard of Pretty Machine, but the notes sound amazing. There are not enough linden perfumes, in my opinion.

My pick is Une Zeste de Rose (left arm) and Nahema (right arm). Zesty rose and smouldering rose.

I agree, I love linden in perfumes. Have you tried De Ma Mere by Shelley Kyle? It has a lovely linden note with a beeswax and amber dry down. It’s very soft and surprisingly lasts for at least seven hours (discreetly) on skin. Fragrantica link is below.

No, and it sounds rather nice (although mimosa worries me). Thank you for the link. Unfortunately it looks like the only way I can get samples is from their website, and shipping from the US is pricey. I have to stick to more accessible perfume houses.

    Hi all!

Had a pretty trying day yesterday but on the plus side, I managed to find a great deal on a full bottle of Guerlain’s Metallica. I promptly scooped it up! It was sans box but the fragrance smells glorious: radiant gold foil florals on a warm vanillic base. I never ever thought I’d smell this one but here we are.

Have a good day and be safe!

Wow! What a rare find! I heard that they quit making it because of copyright issues with the band Metallica, but I don’t know if that’s true. Congrats on the great score!

It is! I was so elated to find it. True, the band did successfully sue Guerlain. They reissued it in typical Guerlain fashion under a different name though that version is gone too.

I attempted a zest and smoulder combo, but…. A couple of spritzes of Speziali Fiorentini Te Nero and a couple of spritzes of Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte. It turned into something neither here nor there, though the drydown is sort of a mossy vanilla that I don’t hate.

No scent yet, but I’m home! Got home on Friday evening. 10 days evacuated. Life is returning to normal (although the fire is still less than 50% contained) – mail delivery and trash pickup has resumed – husband is done with his fire fighting duties – and as of yesterday afternoon, we have internet again. Our former internet service was over-air and their tower burned down, so we had to have DSL installed.

Citrus + smoke this week, huh? Well then I suppose I should grab a citrus perfume. For smoke, all I need to do is walk outside, lol.

If I had it, I’d wear Parfums de Nicolai Vanille Tonka today for Zest and Smoulder but since I don’t, I’m wearing Shalimar edt today. I think this is from the 70s judging by the bottle. It’s really more about the smolder, I added a bit of edc for zest 🙂

What a wonky morning. Around 1:30 this morning, the power goes out. Comes back on at about 4 but it was difficult trying to sleep without the fan to keep cool. Had an 8:30 meeting and just got through with chatting with Walmart about a package that was damaged in transit. The guy who i talked to said that it was actually lost and he is refunding that money since what I ordered is out of stock. My review is up and I am in no 22 edt today.

Yes, looking at Fragrantica they say it came out in 2005 and the batch code on my bottle is 8X02 which puts it at 2008. So yes…12 years vintage. 😉

When you are into perfume (obsessed?) and pour over websites and reviews about vintage/old/reformulated/unicorn perfumes it’s easy to become caught up in the lore. 😉 At least for me. But then as with many things, time goes by and you try new things and your tastes and interests change. I will probably part ways w/ this beauty and let someone enjoy this carnival of a fragrance. 😉

    Gorgeous image, Robin!

Today is one of THOSE days!
    1. RIP my mini of LADDM. I wore it only once and today when I reached for it it was fully evaporated. Upsetting! After shaking the bottle many times I was able to get a tiny thick drop on my wrist. Heavenly! That is my morning scent.

    2. Yesterday, the neighbor in front of us, finally had the big tree that fell on their roof, thanks to Isaias, removed. The tree was left in the backyard. At 6am this morning the roofing company started repairs and one hour later the tree removal crew started the trimming. I wish both companies had done this at different times or days because the noise is unbearable and keeping concentration on work is almost impossible!

    3. And last but not least, I was expecting two packages to be delivered today by USPS. They both arrived at my local post office yesterday afternoon. I checked the tracking numbers this morning just to find out that one package went to Boston and the other one is now  somewhere  in New Jersey!

Well, it could be worse! ?‍♀️. I think I need a blueberry popsicle asap!!! ?

I’m wearing Child today, as a quick grab on my way upstairs to my virtual classroom.

We’re moving in a few weeks and most of my perfume will be on the truck for at least a few days. I’m packing a Jo Malone box (the size Nordstrom would put your bottle of cologne or candle in back when I shopped in person) with a few “irreplaceables” to take in the car with me. It’s an interesting exercise to try to figure out which scents are making it into the box.

That is a fun exercise! I had to do something similar about five years ago, when we moved to Germany in nine suitcases — chose a certain number of perfumes to decant and take along.

      Good luck with the move!

Kinda random pairing today, as I was hurriedly showering to get ready for my early meeting. La Curie Incendo because it’s the smokiest perfume I own, layered with PdN Eau de Yuzu because I had a sample of it at the top of my sample pile. The Yuzu added a bit of zest, but Incendo’s such a smoke monster that it’s pretty well lost.

I had lunch with an actual human from work yesterday — socially distanced, outside, but still, an actual in-person meeting! Such a nice change. Today I’m back in the home office on another four-hour meeting, as I have been every day for the last two weeks. Can’t wait for these to be over.

Hi all, SOTD is Chanel No. 22, vintage EDC, very liberally sprayed.
Breathing a little easier today, air quality is a ‘good’.
Hubby and I went for a four-mile walk last night after supper, and I slept better.
I think we’ll do the same tonight, as I need all the help I can with my getting my zzzz’s. 🙂
Reading Lost Girls of Paris by Pam Jenoff, it’s a real page turner. 🙂 Adding Crimson Petal And The White, a title taken from watching an old episode of Gillmore Girls. Hopefully, my local library will have it via e-book.

Scent for laundry day is Sensuous Nude, just because it was mentioned. More powdery than my mood would like, but c’est la vie.

Think I need to bake some dark chocolate wafer cookies for our friends who will be taking care of kitty while we are gone.

You know you’ve gotten used to masks when you are irritated by those who waltz into the laundry room announcing they forgot theirs. And are you also blind to the signs by every elevator reminding you?

SOTD is Zoologist Sloth. After spending a while with it, the thought popped in my head that it is like a masculine EL’s Azuree. I think of Azuree as a feminine unisex scent. But Sloth has a lot going on, so I won’t try to sum it up.

I find Sloth indeed rather complex and hard to figure out. It doesn’t quite seem the right formula to characterize such a slow calm animal. I’m leaning toward not liking it but still not quite decided.

    Wednesday!

    1) SOTD is Organic Pharmacy’s rose & jasmine oil, followed by Molinard’s Jasmin. It will be 90 later on today, so while there is no zest nor smolder, this will definitely be in tune for today.

    2) Got access to an actor friend’s guest house in Ashland area, so I am gonna take off for the labor day weekend. We have all tested negative, so there is that. Some time on the Rogue River will be much needed, as well as some hiking and yoga.

Monday was Nice Bergamote and Tuesday was Rose Magnetic. I liked both, but none of the three I’ve tried so far have lasted very long. I might get a travel size of RM as this one lasts longer and is a very pretty rose.
I did my usual monthly tally last night, and I drained 58 samples in August! That’s a bunch, even for me. I guess that’s what happens when you drench yourself three times a day. ?

Well, my bottles got very little love last month, that’s for sure!

I’m confused about how to understand smoldering in a perfume. I’ve tried smoke and incense and today I’m trying patchouli with Monegal’s Mon Patchouly. I’m liking it better than I recalled. My preference is for the darkest dirtiest kind of patchouli scents like CDG
Luxe. This is sweet and fairly light. But those bottles! I have three in my cabinet and they’re all very corroded. Not sure what to do. I posted pics of it on I.G.

My mom used to use salt and white vinegar on her copper-bottomed saucepan when it tarnished. Maybe that combo and a toothbrush could work for you?

Still commando re: perfume, but missing it today. I think I might be back in the perfumed saddle again tomorrow.

Hang in there, Jalapeno; it’s been a tough week, but hopefully you’ll feel more the thing by tomorrow and you’ll have a gorgeous perfume to lift your mood…

After a walk this afternoon and then a quick shower, I’m wearing the delightful Lemon Liada by Providence Perfume Co. That takes care of the Zest; I guess my Smoulder is from how warm I got on the walk! Thank goodness we’ve made it through most of Hump Day —

I recall seeing good things about Lemon Liada here at NST…

Nothing new here – another day in Shalimar edc. I have to construct a genogram for one of the classes I’m taking. No direction whether to do this by hand/word processing, or software. When I asked my father how many siblings his mother had, he got all flustered (“there were so many!”). 🙂

SOTD = Le Lion de Chanel

And yes, it lives up to the hype surrounding it. We’ve all been in this perfumed haven long enough to naturally try to think of what a new perfume reminds us of and here’s my take: Le Lion has the Coromandel DNA (very first thing I thought of) + Dior Mitzah + Shalimar with an amped up vanilla (very similar to Aftelier Vanilla Smoke, thanks to Undina mentioning it). As I shared with the NSTers who are participating in the split, it feels more like a heavy Guerlain than a Chanel. I am in ❤️ and a good thing too because I bought the 200mL to split and a personal 75mL❣️

Oh, and I am collecting credit for the Zest and Smoulder CP!

Since it is quite late already, I will save the rest of my comments for tomorrow.
