I'm in Marni Rose. Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese Breakfast mixed with a random Assam sample from Upton.
Reminder: on 9/4 we're doing Zest and Smoulder...wear a fragrance with citrus and smoky notes, or, layer two fragrances to achieve the same affect, or interpret the theme in whatever way works for your collection. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Scent of the morning: Un Jardin sur le Nil, which has more citrus than smoke, but the light smokiness from incense is still there.
Scents of the afternoon: The Scent of Departure Amsterdam layered with CdG Citrico. Amsterdam’s list of notes includes bergamot, citrus and incense, but it does not smell citrussy too me at all. More like herbal incense. So I added Citrico (which I find a bit boring on its own) to boost the zesty side.
You smell sooo good.
My favorite of the Jardins.
Lucky you, getting incense from that Jardin. When I tried it, all I got was a bunch of veggies that weren’t exactly happy on me.
Today’s scent is more zest and mintyness than zest and smoulder. It is Guerlain Vetiver Eau Glacee. The zesty topnotes are joined by a mint (not very toothpaste-like) and eucalyptus.
Pretty sure I never tried that one! But I think I will do something with regular GV this week.

I’m wearing Habit Rouge today; I don’t understand why I like Habit Rouge so much when Shalimar is so not my thing, but there it is. Mystery of life. I wasn’t thinking about the CP when I put it on, but I think it might qualify. I’m almost ready to thunk my little decant. Am giving serious thought to picking up a bottle at the discounters where it is practically free. I do love it in the fall.
Habit Rouge is fantastic–you smell wonderful. I find it much easier to wear than Shalimar. Habit Rouge smells like ease and leisure to me, while Shalimar smells like effort–the difference between a relaxed knocking around day in the country versus a cinched, powdered, and shined up night at the opera.

I know they’re supposed to be related but they are really very different to me! I gave away my bottle of Habit Rouge in a freebiemeet which I have since regretted lol. But as you said, it’s practically free on the disccount sites! You smell wonderful.
I do make the connection, but it’s like they’re distant cousins instead of siblings. Shalimar lives on Fifth Avenue, and Habit Rouge is hanging out and getting muddy on the country estate.
I’ve read that Keith Richards wears HR. I’m tempted to get a bottle for that reason alone. Lol.. I’m a huge fan.
I think HR is more herbal and drier compared to Shalimar. I love them both though.
Herbal and drier is a good way to put it. More fresh air and less boudoir.
I am very tempted to buy habit rouge also. I would find it hard to resist a bottle that is ‘practically free’!

Serge Lutens Fleur d’Oranger. Definitely more sexy smolder than smokey smolder, but it’s really delightful today!
I’ve nursed this small decant for over a year, but I have read that the most recent formulation isn’t very good, so that might keep me from ever getting a bottle.

Finally came on around 7pm. Mostly I worry about my elderly neighbors.
Today something comforting post shower, I think just something like philosophy nude rose.
I thought for sure I would be able to see my sister for her September birthday but of course as the months have gone by, doesn’t look like that will happen.

I worked for a charity in my 20s that was for the elderly and homebound. Since then, I often worry so much about the elderly in extreme weather or during the holidays- many don’t have family and would be so delighted when our workers or volunteers would visit.

We have two owl nests nearby and a family of baby skunks. Very cute.
Awwww. Love it. My walks are very citified, but I see lots of birds and flowers. (The skunks are cuter while they are babies. I’ve been sprayed once (thanks to our dog at the time) and I’d rather not repeat it. You’ve never truly smelled skunk until you smell it up close.

No zest, no smolder. Pêche au Yuzu with Peach & Coriander on top. Was I in the mood for peaches? Yes, I was. In fact, I’m off to Whole Foods, where they are on sale and to Duane Reade for the monthly 20% discount for those 55+.

It’s a lot of peach, which is why I think it has to be layered with something else. The Acqua Colonia did a nice job of dialing it back a bit.
Woke up in L’Air des Alpes Suisses. I will probably finish the decant tomorrow and review it. I find it quite enjoyable and teetering on the FB worthy line. I am not seeing Une Rose Chypree on both Luckyscent or Andy Tauer’s website. I hope it wasn’t discontinued. Wearing Une Rose Chypree today.

Well, Une Rose Vermeille was recently discontinued. Seems like the past 3 years, Andy Tauer has discontinued a lot of his line but but in the past 10 months, released 3 new ones. Pretty unusual.

This week I am focusing on thunking some samples, inspired by some folks last week. Today is Odin 04 Petrana. Good stuff, thunk! Yesterday was Parfums de Marly Byerly- a great woody scent that I would wear a lot of I had a decant or something. It’s “for men”, but that doesn’t deter me lol.
Though I didn’t comment, I did keep with my tropical theme at the end of last week. Fire Island for Friday which is one of my favs. Then At the Beach on Saturday and Sensuous Nude (not tropical just a great scent) on Sunday. I’ve been smelling great, if I do say so myself. 🙂
Thank goodness for September. Praying for a cool down. We are going to NM for Labor Day weekend to visit friends and family. Haven’t been since November of last year and I miss it so much. We are leaving right after work Thursday and hope to drive at least halfway. We are taking the camper so we can stop and crash on the way out and such.

Going and blowing this morning in Cuir Pleine Fleur. Smoky but not really citrusy. This morning I got up two hours earlier than my alarm which I’m sure is the melatonin’s fault. I always wake up too early when I take one. Then I got in my car and not three fett from my window was a growing wasps nest! Got a project for the night now.

I have the same effect with melatonin: gets me asleep in a minute but price to pay is shallow sleep and early wake.. good to know it happens to others! I decided it’s not worth it for me.
Wasp nest :(!! Do be very careful if you attempt removal and maybe wear a helmet/full clothing! We had one in a disused letter box and on opening it they came straight for my mum’s face! Ice pack brought swelling down quickly but still very unpleasant.
It’s only with it if I have to get up early as I can’t force myself to sleep before 1 AM most nights
Oh yuck!!! on having to deal with wasps! My brother has had a few unpleasant experiences with them. He’s discovered that used fabric softener sheets keep them away when he is doing yard work.

Yesterday was my 7 year-old’s first day back to school w/ remote learning and it went well for her but a bit mentally tough and stressful for me. Also contributing to the stress on the work front, the powers that be just transferred the work and responsibilities of another department to me and my team. It will ultimately be good (I hope) but the timing isn’t pretty bad. But I shall endure with the help of new and improved perfume quests and questions as outlined below. 😉
1. Wearing Acqua e Zucchero today. I also revisited Dulcis in Fundo and Vanitas recently. I see the travel sprays have gone up to $83 from $74 if memory serves. Le sigh. Profumum Roma has some good vanillas. Don’t think they can be found cheaper anywhere but if anyone has a lead…let me know.
2. 4160 Tuesdays – just ordered several samples from this line…mostly those w/ vanilla and am looking forward to trying them. I ordered them from indiescents b/c I also wanted to try…
3. Dolce Passione by Pantheon Roma which is very tough to find samples of and they just got that line in stock I believe. No affiliation to indiescents…first time ordering from them.
Would love to know any favorites from 4160 Tuesdays, if anyone has tried Dolce Passione and/or if I must pay full price for the Profumum Roma line please…not necessarily in that order. 😉 So much perfume work to be done!

How on earth is it September? The air is not too smoky today, but to make up for that, the sky is extremely grey and gloomy. I’m wearing the last of my Annick Goutal Vetiver to match the gloom, as I wonder why some guy I don’t know in my workplace keeps bugging me with time-consuming questions that his manager should be answering.
AG Vetiver is great, but now that I’ve emptied my decant, I don’t think I will need another one. I’m not sure that it fills a unique hole. It’s just…vetiver. I’ve got a bunch of those.

Good morning, all! I’m in a drop of Eau d’Hadrien and counting on the environment to provide the smolder! 🙂 Though, thankfully, I’ve been able to open the windows this morning — every minute I can leave them open feels like a gift.
Based on the sample of that I finally tried last week, I can say you smell really good.
It’s lovely but literally lasts ten minutes tops on me. I’m kind of using it like smelling salts, good for a quick citrus pick-me-up.
I am dying to open my windows but it’s still smoky here. Enjoy your fresh air!!!

SOTD: Drôle de Rose
Got to see two colleagues last night which was such fun. I long for the days when people could easily and without angst meet for coffee, dinner, a walk in the park. Last night felt a little more like those long ago days.
I met two colleagues last Friday for a drink and it was so much fun – maybe also because I finally got together with people that are just “mine” (we have a small friend bubble but it’s the whole family’s). Meeting another friend colleague for coffee in a bit – excited!

Going back to finishing up samples or decants today by thunking a sample of Serge’s Vitriol d’Oeillet. Well heck, this is nicer than I realized. Trying to resist the urge to find a bottle at a good price. I also have plenty of spicy florals, so I don’t really think this is a necessary addition to my collection.
Had a really good walk and workout yesterday. I can feel it in my body today.

How did it get to be September? Wow, but I saw it yesterday when I went for a walk in the late afternoon. The slanting light was tinged with yellow as it always is here in the fall. There’s a heat wave coming over the next week so I’m running a couple of errands today and planning on staying in during the worst of it. I’m wearing Acqua Viva today, may add some smoke later but right now I’m just enjoying the lemon.
Time has passed weirdly fast this year! I just got an email from my favorite local peach farm, saying that next weekend will be the end of peach season, and I’m somehow still thinking it was spring about three weeks ago…
We’ve just started seeing fireflies in our backyard at night. I swear they used to come out in May! I’m not complaining, they’re so beautiful. I’m just confused.
The heat of high summer is definitely gone where I am at. Days are still warm, but it feels different, like there is a touch of something else in the air.
My dress still smelled of my Chypre Mousse decanting, so I topped up with Aromatics Elixir. They go together quite well, a nuclear combination.
Forgot to rabbit again, I am hopeless. But the teapot is adorable

Am in a bit of Anatomy of a Fragrance Wild Fig; very green spice and vetiverish now more than fig. The bottle is older and this last bit of it left in the bottle.
Cool morning, lots of fresh air, sunshine, it will be warm in the afternoon. Despite everything, a beautiful day here in the City of Roses.
You smell wonderful! I prefer woody/green figs to milky/sweet fig scents.
I’ll have to have an opportunity to wear Miller Harris’s Fig Amere. It’s a nice one for Fall.

lapin x trois…I did this just after midnight and then again when I woke up and now here–I need three times the luck for this month ahead. Dentist later this week to replace a crown (ouch) but I get to visit with my sister tomorrow (yeah) so it is all in balance.

FYI reporting back: I tried for single bottle purchase outside of the sets and it didn’t work. It is a great sale though.
Alas, the only thing I want is something that Atelier doesn’t make anymore, which is the 10mL travel spray of Cedrat Enivrant. I should have gotten it when Sephora had it. Oh well, it’s not like I am running out of perfume anytime soon…
Finally, the vintage “rebottled” Shalimar Edc arrived yesterday – and it’s sooo good! It was a full dabber bottle (30ml), with box, so maybe that kept it in good shape. It’s similar enough to the parfum de toilette to my nose that it might be worth seeking the vintage edc out since it’s cheaper – there were differences but they seemed mild (caveat: I noticed some of the vintage edc looks fairly pale. My juice is pretty dark). Opened a little sharper, drydown is a little brighter, maybe?
I also purchased Shalimar Cologne recently and I’m pondering a further expansion of my Shalimar universe. Souffle? Souffle Intense? Souffle Lumiere? If anyone feel like offering their input, I’d love it to hear it!!
Just as an fyi, the Souffle line doesn’t really smell anything like Shalimar to me. They smell good though and can be found for a good price.

I have the Souffle Intense EDP, it’s a gorgeous combination of citrus over vanilla and benzoin. Great staying power.
The Shalimar Souffle de Lumière had more floral notes, which didn’t work well with my sinuses.

I fell asleep at my computer this afternoon. Thank goodness class wasn’t in session – the kids would have found it hilarious or terrifying. Teaching online uses so much more energy than in a classroom. I’m already exhausted, and it’s only the third week of school.

I totally forgot to rabbit when I woke up at 4:40 a.m. this morning so full of anxiety I couldn’t go back to sleep. Then I did the worst thing for it and read Facebook for two hours. My brother is in Wisconsin now and I worry about him with the volatile situation there and with his in-laws. Meanwhile my air conditioners have both started to leak and need work. We had a heat index of 113 yesterday and 108 today. No time for the A/C to conk put. My mom’s place went two weeks without any positive cases of Covid and so now they will open for visiting starting tomorrow! Great news except these are outdoor visits in 100 degree heat. Not good for 90-year-old residents or there 70-year-old children. “Children,” haha. I’m feeling rather cynical and pessimistic today. Must be lack of sleep.
Oh yeah, perfume. I started out that early day with Aqua Allegoria Pampelune. Didn’t last an hour. Later after a shower I put on LL Baie Rose. Comfortable without being boring..
Thinking of you calypso. I would be hanging out on the couch with you if I could distracting you or telling some boring story that would make your eyes close.
Good Luck. This is such a tough time. I stay awake too late when I get into my rut and some plastic surgeon will have a field day with me one day.

I’m so sorry you have been dealing with extreme heat and insomnia on top of everything else going on in the world ?. I hope that the temperature falls enough to allow you a visit with your mother. The worst part of this pandemic is not being able to see those we love. Perfume can be a comfort, and I have found myself turning to it more in the recent months. Hugs.

It is a lovely well behaved caged rose. There is a striped tiger in here somewhere, a white one. It is a powerhouse. It is a straight up rose (chained by the cumin I think) that doesn’t get too sticky, berry or jammy sweet. I find I cannot handle those for long although they smell lovely.
I cannot find a rose that I can commit to, so far AG’s Rose Absolue is pure enough and I do love Tauer’s Phi Une Rose de Kandahar.
Next I will see how Rrose Selavy by SMN wears.

No. Mr. Jalapeno said that he would handle it, so I am leaving it in his hands.
Even if he did call the place that did the first repair, I don’t think that they would be able to send someone out immediately.
Fortunately, he have 2 bathrooms, so we are able to shower and/or bathe.

I do use scented lotion on my shins, so I’m not entirely bereft of perfume.
