Monday scent of the day 8/10

Posted by Robin on 10 August 2020 252 Comments

Happy World Lion Day, and a very happy 60th to Antonio Banderas. (Sorry, for the rest of us it's just Monday.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Myrrhe Églantine, because Tiffanie mentioned it yesterday.

Reminder: 8/14 is Creamsicle Day! Wear a creamsicle fragrance if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I’m wearing the uber green Niki de Saint Phalle, one of my favorite all-season fragrances. I’ve been wearing this quite often this year.

Always wanted to try that, and love the original bizzaro bottle. Is it a true chypre?

I have my dear aunts bizaaro bottle. She would be 103, so the bottle is an original. love it.

You smell wonderful! I do adore the bottle and the artist. I’d say it is def. a Chypre/Floral.

I thought something bright and cheerful would suit on my first day back in my physical office since mid-March. A spritz of Lolita Lempicka Elle L’Aime is doing the trick.

Wow, hope everything goes well. Do you have to take mass transit? I am so not ready as I have to take NJ Transit and it has gotten worse than pre-COVID — so many trains being cancelled and the reasons cycle between equipment availability, engineer availability and crew availability, not including wire issues, tunnel issues, congestion due to issues, and on and on and on!

I am feeling a bit unwell today, so I wanted a skin scent (not in terms of projection, but a scent that kind of blends with my skin). Goutal Musc Nomade.

As for the CP, I have three perfumes that should fit it, so I am saving them for later.

I’m in Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche and packing up for a day at the beach. Today is my college daughter’s birthday and it’s her first day not as a teenager. She was 10 days overdue and I remember how long those days felt…and now how the years have flown by.? Wish time wouldn’t do that. One perk of the pause and that we get to spend her day with her. She’s usually away at summer camp, for years as a camper and then last year as a counselor. I got up early and finished frosting the chocolate cake that I baked yesterday. Watching and hoping the storms stay north of us so we can enjoy a nice day.??

Wearing Vetyver from Les Parfums Mythiques Collection by Givenchy. I never thought I’d enjoy a take on vetiver more than the vintage Guerlain I’ve worn for years but I can admit when I’m mistaken. It’s softer, more restrained and much easier to wear. It was *love* at first sniff and I will be reaching for it a lot! Enjoy this beautiful day, my fellow ‘fumeheads!

Robin, it was Kevin’s review that caused me to pull the trigger on this blind buy. I had been eyeballing it for a while and lamenting my dwindling supply of the vintage Guerlain (I’m staring at my last 100mL bottle of it :/ ) and I’m glad I took the leap. It’s fantastic!

No SOTD, yet. You know how it goes, I need my coffee first! Currently, I’m standing over the kitchen island reading NST entries with a cat on my back. My old man (18-20 years old, not entirely sure) has decided in his decrepitude that he gets to launch himself onto my shoulders and lay down, irregardless of whether or not I want him there. I end up hunched over so he won’t scratch the heck out of me, and he settles down to purr and act imperious. He’s very proud of himself.

He’s fairly polite, but he has very little control over his hindquarters anymore (dodgy hips and two vertebrae rubbing together, poor thing). If he keeps his balance, it’s not an issue, but it’s fairly simple for him to wobble. So, I end up just sort of hunching over and getting still as possible while he settles himself down. I don’t mean it to be giving him permission, but he seems to take it that way!

I looked into it. Looks like it’s dependent upon employers choosing the rollover option, and I would need to find someone at HR to determine if our distict has opted for that. Being summer, it can be tricky to find someone, and that’s more complicated this year. So, haven’t confirmed it yet, but I’m guessing no. Our district is rarely generous unless they’re reacting to some bad press somewhere.

Yup, it’s Monday and I have a boatload of chores and running around on the agenda.

Work is c’est fini for now, I’ll stay here until the end of August and then hit the road, maintaining my usual social distancing protocol.

I’m throwing it back to the 80’s again with my musical match (yep, stuck on last weeks theme!) to SL Vetiver Oriental.

I’m doing chores today, too, and they’re mostly ones I’ve avoided for weeks. . . wish I could do them without interactions with others at all, but each one requires a real, in-person person to accomplish. Sigh. So, I’ll get geared up and rip off the bandaid and hope for the best. (Weird mixed metaphor!)

Haven’t submitted anywhere because I’m here until the end of the month. Heading west after that, slowly, taking mostly back roads and trying to get to a couple places I’ve wanted to explore but the timing just hasn’t been right when I’ve passed. So, I’m looking at an October start date, and it’s too early to begin the process just yet.

Wearing the last drops of my large decant of Atelier Cologne Vetiver Fatal. No replacement needed, since it was kind of a meh scent for me.

I am feeling horribly sad and depressed today. We are also facing another heat wave for the next 4 days. Ice cream may be in the menu later this afternoon. Back to my home/work desk. Hope my mood improves as the week goes by.

    Happy Monday, everyone!

Besides being Monday which is always an issue, I also feel physically and mentally exhausted. I think the current situation has started to affect me again, like it did at the beginning. I already had a cup of raspberry cheesecake gelato and I will take time off from work tomorrow afternoon to just relax. I definitely need time to be by myself.

Yep, I get you. I’m dealing with those issues, too. Also, having anger issues due to people who refuse to do the right thing, consequently causing illness and distress to others, including those in the medical profession who have to deal with that fallout, still without proper PPE 8 months into this mess. As nice as my current locale is, I feel trapped and can’t wait to leave. The willful ignorance and apathy some people choose is astounding. I think I might join you in gelato-land today! Enjoy your time off, even if you just spend it recouping in bed. ?

Was writing a short article on women’s health over the weekend, and the doctor I interviewed mentioned the importance of Shinrin-Yuko for women’s mental health during this time. If you’ve not heard of it before, it is kind of intuitive–nothing to new. But it sounds lovely to do it mindfully. The doctor I spoke with emphasized that you do not actually have to be in a forest or anything. Just outside where you can feel the sun or wind on your face:

Oakland Fresca, thanks a lot for those links. So, so helpful! I had heard from Shinrin-Yuko before, but I never paid much attention to it .
I am happy that you brought it to my attention, since this is a great time to start practicing. I spend time walking in the park several times a week so I am ready for tomorrow. I need to reconnect with Nature and breathe deeply again if I want to come out unscratched from everything.
        Sending hugs back!

Sympathies to everyone in a covid-induced funk!

I am keeping myself distracted with home decorating / improvement projects, and it’s a good fit with my own mental health needs at the moment as it’s a kind of forward-looking endeavor anyway, and since I am not going into stores, sourcing what I need eats up its own chunk of time.

When I run out of rooms to redo, I expect I’m going to hit a wall and be as depressed as everyone else.

Thank you, Robin! I hope you never hit that wall and find another project as soon as you finish with your home improvements. Maybe at that time we will have good news about a vaccine or treatment and our lives will start slowly going back to normal. I thought that working from home was going to give me the chance to have more flexibility and start catching up on many things that I have been postponing for years. Gosh! Time has been less and instead! That in some way has added to all the existing stress. Let’s hope for better times! The NST community has been a life saver on this Covid times. Lilac body mousse and Fiori di Capri.

Trying to decide if I will defrost and frost the second spice cake or if I will buy peaches and make a peach cake recipe I saw and looks very nice. I’m cheap, though…I don’t want to buy a big jar of cardamom so may just substitute.

Avoiding tinking a number of rows in this cap I’m knitting for my brother in law. Something got messed up so my stitch #s are off…. I want to finish this so I can start on a shawl for my sister. And the new Michael Connelly book came through on my library holds. I’m set for non-work activities,

This isn’t a Bosch one. It’s a throwback character…the reporter. I love Bosch. I like his new female cop too.

I’m glad it came through. I got the latest Daniel Silva in his Gabriel Allon books, and it was awful. I skipped to the end and returned it after a day. (It was a weird rehash of Dan Brown territory. And I found his books to be stupid, so I got bored quickly.)

Started out in Jasailmer, but it’s faded now so have doused myself in Un Jardin Sur la Toit, both of which lovely on this rainy summer day. I’m happy to see the rain; it’s a slow, steady, gentle rain and we really needed it. Kentucky can be downright tropical in the summer, but more frequently just dry and crunchy.

    Hello, lovely people! 🙂

Berdoues Assam of India, in hopes of a cooling effect. I’m sure Robin, Jalapeno, and other commenters here living in the Mid-Atlantic states had much to say about the weather last week. Although some may not have had electricity…We were very lucky that way at home.

I had a week or week+ of feeling totally unambitious. I got out to grocery stores a few times, and Mom and I went to the local library at some point. You can browse in the stacks for 1/2 an hour now. You’re still supposed to keep a reasonable distance from others, though.

My dear brother visited on Saturday. He tried to smell the heliotrope flowers, but was congested from allergies. We all are. It was very nice to see him, anyway. We had a nice lunch and chatted for a while, and then he headed home. I think J. was very glad to see that Dad was back to his usual self, since Dad was in the hospital the day he and my sister-in-law came up in June.

I’d put hardware cloth around a pot of lilies, but the top buds had grown above the hardware cloth and were eaten. I cut one of the stalks with buds, and the lower flowers opened. It’s Lilium speciosum rubrum ‘Uchida.’ It’s very beautiful. https://oldhousegardens.com/display/cat/DiverseSpring#! It’s listed as lightly fragrant, but I don’t get a scent from it. Just as well, or I probably couldn’t have it in the house. I’m enjoying it anyway. 🙂

I’m still not feeling terribly ambitious, but I’ll at least try to get a grocery store run in. I discovered the other week that my favorite Indian grocery is open again, and discovered that day that their fresh laddu is delicious. They’re closed on Mondays, but that’s a shopping trip I have in mind for later in the week. 🙂

    Take care, folks! 🙂

It does have a similar coloring to a ‘Stargazer’ lily. Some lilies do have extremely strong scents, and I know some people feel a choking effect from the strong-smelling ones, especially when the lilies are inside. Somewhere there’s a happy medium between overpowering and unscented. 🙂

Lucky you, we lost power from the first storm (Tuesday?) and then we lost power again with the second storm (Friday) AND that time also had flooding. When it started to rain again over the weekend I almost cried but nothing happened.

Someone here said that every day was Blursday, which I’ve picked up on using, but I think the storms were Tuesday and Friday, yes. I was worried about the high winds on Tuesday and the way the trees were swaying. Mom and I were talking about how the Kennett Square area is one of the more low-lying areas of the county, and I’ve been on Route 52 going south that way when the creeks were high. We saw on the local news that to the east of us, streets in Tredyffrin were flooded out.

We live on a hill so usually don’t have to worry about flooding unless we want to go somewhere. In this case, the ground was so soaked that the basement flooded anyway.

I’m sampling Heretic Dirty Mango this morning. There’s an odd butter note I’m getting so I think this one is a “no.” Dirty Ginger leaked in transit, there’s nothing left, and I was looking forward to trying that one and Dirty Jasmine and Lemon the most.

It’s too hot to bake so I am going to Cost Plus World Market for Hobnobs and cherry jam. Also to get out of the house before I go even more stir-crazy.

Hi all, My SOTD is a dab of Skin Musk oil, something light and soft.
I’m not quite 100% but I’m getting there. Many thanks and blessings to everyone for the lovely well-wishes, I’m hopeful to be up and walking again soon. 🙂
Mr. SmokeyToes mentioned ST was waiting for me by the front door the entire time I was hospitalized. 🙂

Tocca Collette just because it’s nice and it’s an easy work grab.

Had a great day yesterday. Went over to Oxnard to escape the heat of the desert. Was about 97 where I live and was only the high 60s at the coast! We just drove over, ate lunch, and sat/walked on the beach for a few hours. The cooler temps and ocean did me a lot of good. And I have to say, compared to the LA beaches, the beach was not crowded at all and people were spaced out and distanced so well. I wore Dune and it was perfect. 🙂

Antonio Banderas is 60! Oh lordie lordie – he’s one of the timeless actors and it’s always a shock to hear that he also grows older each year!

SOTD = Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine layered with Vanille Insensee

They were made to layer well and I am on CP with a creamsicle.

I got my haircut this morning – woohoo! I washed my hair at home and had to leave it kinda wet. The mall did not open until 11 but service businesses can open earlier at their option. Everyone was masked and my temperature was taken – I don’t know in what planet 96.5 degrees Fahrenheit is normal but I passed ?. I should have had my hair cut in early April so the 4 month wait yielded a lot of hair on the floor (3 inches from the bottom part of my hair and 1 inch from my bangs). My head feels lighter and hopefully we don’t go back to a lockdown.

Since it is really hot and humid, I decided to walk inside the mall (2 miles) in case I end up not being up to walking later today. Various levels of compliance with mask wearing though so I tend to steer clear of people.

Methinks it will be an Atelier week. I have old samples to go through, and I’m curious if they smell different than I remember. I’m in Cedre Atlas today, and it’s just fine. Later in the week I’ll layer Orange Sanguine with Vanille Insensee for a creamsicle hack.

Tea of the day is chamomile iced, cuz it’s hot, and we’re trying to negotiate paint colors for the kitchen walls, cabinets and dining room walls. This is not fun, and needs chamomile tea, maybe something stronger.

I’m snuffling a tissue that smells of vanilla. I use a tissue to wipe the neck of the vanilla bottle when I use it, otherwise that little drip of vanilla cements the lid in place, which totally messes with my baking enjoyment. I made a peach cobbler and jazzed it up with sliced almonds, buttermilk and brandy. I hope it doesn’t overflow the dish! ?

I am so surprised, choosing paint colors is one of my favorite activities. Then again, I have nobody to argue over colors with — my husband mostly doesn’t care and can’t tell the difference between shades anyway. At some point I had over 10 swatches of blue on the walls in my hall (for ages!) and he was utterly baffled…they’re all blue, what’s the difference?

Iris for me. It was not too bad late afternoon so I did a longer than usual walk. My walk goal is modest – three 5k walks per week and a walk on Sunday can be credited to the week that just ended or to the upcoming one. I was at a deficit last week so yesterday’s walk covered the shortfall. I am ahead this week.
