Lazy weekend poll ~ what’s in your shower, edition 5

Posted by Robin on 11 July 2020 305 Comments

Yep, it's time for our annual shower census....do tell us about the scented products in your bath or shower! How many scented shower gels and/or bar soaps are in your shower right now? And do tell us the names / products. If you have any great scented products in other categories (hair care?) tell us about those too.

Or, as always, just talk about something else.

Things that were in my shower last year, and that I still have (or have replaced): Nesti Dante Emozioni in Toscana Villages & Monasteries bar soap, Lush Happy Hippy, The Body Shop Banana Shower Cream (the exact same bottle, almost gone but it has taken forever).

New since then: Lifelab Grapefruit Detox shampoo and conditioner (love), Carina Organics Citrus shampoo and conditioner (good formula but very lightly scented), Avalon Organics Peppermint shampoo and conditioner, Shikai Yuzu shower gel (an oldie but goodie), Andalou 1000 Roses shower gel (no Rose Jam, but nice and reasonably priced), St. Ives Pink Lemon and Mandarin Orange Exfoliating Body Wash (cheerful, cheap as chips).

Note: the Amélie tub is from Rogerseller, but I am not sure if they still make it.

Sad to say I just have Dawn dish soap in the shower At the mo. ? I’m out of any scented products and I’m not going to any specialty store to buy something. I meant to pick up a more appropriate choice when I went to the grocery store but completely forgot in my rushing around to get out of there. So that’s that.

Went to get my nose swabbed this morning. Asymptotic but I wanted to check before going back to patient care. Sadly, the turnaround time is about a week and I head back to work tomorrow. I made the appointment last week for the earliest available and today was the first I could get. Even though I rag on Florida all the time, it’s really breaking my heart to see the disaster down there..?

SOTD is my true summer love PdE Corsica Furiosa.

Smell well y’all! Chin up, or in my case “chins” up..?

My sis is there too. I worry everyday she is with patients. And she does swabbing two times a week as a volunteer. She gets tested every 14 days but hasn’t got her most recent results either.
I rag on her for Swamplandia life too, but it’s awful and heartbreaking there and everywhere.
      Dawn works just fine.

Oh lord, now you’ve opened a door! I LOVE bath products and LOVE soaking baths and long showers. I’m a water baby even on land.
Shampoo and conditioner are both Davines for copper hair.
Current soap is Rileyville Lemon Poppyseed. I have 17 soaps on deck.
Shower gels IN the shower are Lush Rose Jam, Blue Spa Margarita, an Italian orange and a jar of Moroccan black rose haman soap.
Now here’s where NST confession comes in…I have a large glass front cabinet next to my huge pedestal tub. Inside are about 100 various bubble bath bottles, oils, salts and a big glass urn of bath bombs. Anyone who visits is usually either shocked or impressed! I use my potions several nights a week, a bath is my favorite ritual, so they’re not just for show. But I have a habit of constantly added to the stash.
I ordered Philosophy Orange Cocoa, shower gel AND body cream, just yesterday thanks to this blog. Do I NEED more? No. Did I even pretend to resist? No.

Any chance you have a proper soaking tub to go with all those wonderful products?

Having some kind of tub was one of my requirements when we went house shopping last year. I was surprised to see so many freshly redone bathrooms with only a shower. We have a tub here at the “new” house in the guest bath, but sadly it’s just a standard insert type. But something is better than nothing, and I can’t imagine going through the stresses of teaching in winter without the escape of a good soaking at least once a week!

How dirty do you get? If I’m gardening or working out, yes a shower is what I want. But I don’t soak in scumy bath water because I’m not dirty when I get in. It’s like the Japanese, it’s for relaxation, not for washing.
I totally understand that some people just don’t like baths…they get bored, a shower is quicker, but the idea that you’re sitting in filth in a bath is so wrong. It’s not the Wild West and I’m not washing off trail dirt lol. I have never once witnessed scum ?

          • Deva says:
            11 July 2020 at 2:21 pm

Kelly Red, it’s just me. When I’m in a tub, I can “see” all the microscopic dirt- dead skin cells, staph, random pathogens of unknown origin, etc. Visible dirt isn’t the thing that bothers me. It’s all the microscopic filth that I would be wallowing in and that doesn’t get rinsed off because, well, I’m wallowing in it. I’ve never had a bath that didn’t have product or scum left in the tub, that you then have to turn around and wash and rinse out. In the end, the tub is cleaner that the person who was in it. YMMV✌?

LOL, why yes I do. Our house was built in 1906, we re-did the bathroom 8 yrs ago. We bumped it out 6 feet for the express purpose of a huge pedestal tub. That opened up the old tub space for a large 2 person shower. The tub, tile work, pedestal sink and the previously mentioned cabinet are all in the style of the original house. I went to several designer showrooms and climbed into display tubs to find one I could completely stretch out my legs and that had a comfortable curve to it. I’m willing to admit being obsessed about my bathroom, it’s my happy place.

Ditto this. My apartment has a pretty disappointing standard issue tub, but it’s better than no tub, I suppose. I want a deep soaking tub so bad. We stayed at an AirB&B on a nearby island a few years ago, and I had the best bath of my life. They also supplied wonderful bath salts.

Oh! How wonderful. I miss my baths. When we finally found the perfect house, there were one or two things that were close to dealbreakers, and indeed one was the absence of a tub in the tiny but darling masterbedroom bath. I imagine I’d soak every night if I could. We moved in anyway, because: trees and privacy, and so many other pluses.
I love imagining all your bath products in that glass cabinet!

I have several Solstice Scents whipped soaps which are great. In the last couple months, I bought the Pantene Rose Water shampoo and conditioner (which I think was a daily lemming a while back) and they have a lovely scent. Also have Lush Respect Your Elders soap which is quite nice. While I do like scented shower products, they are always so fleeting and thus second fiddle to perfume for me.

Today I sampling Dame Minty Man and Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum.

Minty Man is wonderful…reminds me of Herba Fresca. Citrus and mint…like the perfect summer cocktail. Entirely unisex. They had a code on the 4th for a free male fragrance sample and this is what I picked…thanks again to lillyjo ? Regular price is $8.50 for a 5 ml spray w/ free shipping so it’s quite the steal anyways for those seeking enablement. ?

Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum is somewhat sharp and I can pick out all three notes…will see how this wears…might be coming off sharp as relative to MM which is very smooth.

Oh, goody! I want to improve my scented body wash options. I will be taking notes. . . I wandered over to Beauty Encounter a month or so back and blind-bought some things. Don’t love either of the bodywashes I purchased. Just sort of bland smells, and thin gels that are easy to overuse.

SOTD: Tauer’s Zeta. Sprayed too lavishly considering I will not get to purchase more, but I wanted to really notice it today. And the lindens are in bloom in these parts, and they smell so much like summer!

Still have a big bottle of the Trader Joe’s shampoo and body wash that I rarely use but has a nice scent. Some French cherry almond body wash that I got at Christmas markets. MB Muddled Plum was in there, but now that we are doing the accounting, it’s back in the cabinet waiting for cold weather. Replaced with Body Shop Satsuma gel. Bar soap is the final bits of a patchouli Lush one that my husband bought, so who knows what it was. Finishing up a Sumbody citrus goat milk soap (Sumbody is out of Sonoma, and I have a Milky Rich soap just waiting for cooler weather.) Husband just added a Caswell Massey rose soap to the bath. He loves scented soaps, including florals.

What I need for summer is a big bar of Blanc Lila. My favorite summer soap.

CK Reveal this morning. I wanted salty. This is very salty at the opening, but that fades. I got this as a “mystery” scent from some site not too long after it launched. Never wear it, but it’s quite nice.

LtSG: question for you. What Shalimar flanker or version (that is easily available) do you recommend? I’m not terribly interested in EdP, but want a lighter version. EdT? Cologne? Souffle? Lumiere? So many, so much confusion.

I am no Shalimar expert, it depends on what you are looking for. Its almost a perfume that is hard to classify or describe. I am an amateur, I have actually never smelled the parfum extract in that beautiful bottle 🙁
The EdT -smokey, leather, bergamot, citrus..vanilla powder
The Cologne (older, not the 2000 version) the notes are more blended, still you have powder vanilla bergamot citrus..its great for this weather because its refreshing and a cologne so you can spray away. It doesn’t last, but I love it.
For the Souffle, someone can chime in about this one, and it’s flankers. I tried the Souffle Intense and it was too aquatic for me. I swapped it away.
Shalimar is rough and intense for me, exotic and passionate. If I had to pick one for you to try I would go for the EdT, from an older bottle you can find for peanuts on the evil-bay.

If you were to ask Mr L, the only perfume he compliments me on is the Shalimar.
By the way did you hear that they are coming out with a new flanker this fall? You could wait and try this: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Shalimar-Philtre-de-Parfum-Guerlain-s-New-Spell-13694.html

My shower products collection has ridiculously increased since last year. I will not write again a super long list, as I did last year, but I guess all together I have 40+ bar soaps, shower gels and shower foams.

    Right now I am using:
    -Chanel No.19 bar soap,
-Pre de Provence Verbena bar soap,
-Bvlgari Au The Bleu shower gel,
-Olay White Strawberry & Mint shower foam.

SOTD Parfum d’Empire Corsica Furiosa, for another hot and humid day running errands.

Have a safe and healthy weekend, everyone!

    Happy weekend.
In my shower I have Korres Iris & Neroli shower gel, plus two from Yves Rocher – Senteur Cerisier (cherry blossom scent) nad Gaiac Wood and Juniper.

Wearing Vilhelm Parfumerie Modest Mimosa. I like it, it’s nice, but I do not like it more than my Amouage Love Mimosa. But I’m still curious to try mimosa from Perris Monte Carlo.

Most of my bath stuff is Amouage. Lyric, Memoir, Dia and Epic soap and lotion. Have no 5 bath stuff too. I don’t use that stuff as much as I should. My day to day stuff is the Dove bar. Helping my aunt move some mulch today, hence no perfume today. I don’t want to have a perfume ruined for me since mulch stinks.

In the shower I have Atelier Orange Sanguine and Clementine California shower gels, Rituals foaming shower gel, cream soap I made myself a long time ago, and Bliss Super Minty Soap’nScrub. Shampoo is Tresemme Luxurious Moisture and conditioner is Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Mask. I have more in the cabinet but it takes me quite a long time to use up shower products. I think I bought Rose Jam three? years ago and it’s still almost full. SOTD is Azemour. Sunny and in the ’80s here, showers tomorrow.

How’s the Phyto mask–do like several of their shampoos. My fave hair mask was discontinued, and after a few trial & errors, have determined that Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Keratin intensive treatment is an acceptable replacement.

I find it very moisturizing. I don’t use it as a mask anymore because 1)it made my hair too soft and 2) I hate standing all wet in the shower waiting for a mask to work. I just rub a tiny bit through my hair and rinse.

    1) Everyone Soap Orange Squeeze shower gel (also works as facial wash and shampoo and whatever else you need detergent for because we are guys, we don’t care).
    2) A 100-mL bottle filled with Yves Rocher Argan Rose shower gel bolstered with, because it is not rosy enough, about 5 mL of Lush Rose Jam body spray (also face wash/shampoo).
    3) Tabac Original shaving-soap stick.
    4) Geo. F. Trumper Violet shave cream.

Back in MFK’s Lumiere Noire, and indeed this morning it was thunked. I explained the milestone to my husband, and we both stood reverently as I tossed the empty bottle into the bin. “Thunk!” A little bittersweet.

Anyhooooo— in my shower. Our downstairs bathroom (same floor as our bedroom) is a monument to poor planning and being a swinging single (not me, the prior owner before the last owner before us), and so I like to keep our HUGE shower (no bath but a double shower–needless to say, we are far too busy and not the least titillated by the bathroom to have ever both taken a shower at the same time) clutter free (not so lucky is a drawer under the sink). So shower holds some Alba shampoo and conditioner for my husband, plus his shaving cream. For me, there is a bottle of Avalon organics Intense Defense face wash, Pacifica’s Pineapple Curls shampoo and conditioner, a tiny tub of Lush Deep Sleep, and a rose-scented bar of soap that was formerly wrapped in expensive looking paper and no doubt is triple-milled, but due to a leaky soap bottle, I have no idea what any of my soaps are these days.

Today I’m writing a very short article on lactation consulting and World Breastfeeding Week (first week in Aug.) and am really feeling great sympathy for any new mothers during this pandemic. When my boys were born, we thought whether they could latch properly was a huge deal. New mothers right now have so many concerns to juggle. Oy.

I have dry skin and hair (curly hair, comes with the territory) and therefore cannot do fancy bath products or shower creams. Use J&J Baby Shampoo and TBS Banana shampoo on alternate days, but have an assortment of TBS conditioners, which I really like: rain forest, ginger, there must be more. I also have a weakness for bar soaps: an assortment of Nesti Dante ones as well as some Mysore Sandalwood soaps that I buy at the little Indian place where I buy my frankincense tears. It is in the original packaging and says Govt. Soap Factory of Bangalore on the back still. I tried to see if it was cheaper on Amazon but the packaging there is slightly different and the soaps look different too, so I’ll stick with my bricks and mortar soap.

Haven’t commented much in the last couple of weeks, but I’ve been reading SOTD posts a day or two after they’re posted. I’ve been incredibly mentally and emotionally (well, and physically since mental and emotional strains have a physical effect on you) drained and stretched recently. My brother is still having a “normal” wedding next Sunday, and I’ve been agonizing over attending or not attending for months. The wedding was originally scheduled for May 15, but they postponed it to July. Definitely not long enough of a postponement in a pandemic. My anxiety has been through the roof. Finally, on Wednesday I told my brother, future sister-in-law, and my parents that I won’t be flying across the country to attend. It probably went as well as it could have, and I feel a tremendous weight has been lifted. I slept so hard Wednesday night after all that. I’d cried multiple times that day and had thrown up due to anxiety, so I was wiped. I still feel weird about not being at my brother’s wedding even though we aren’t really close. But I know I made the right decision for the safety and wellness of myself and others.

I did participate in the last couple CPs with lots of ylang ylang and then perfumes with rum or coconut notes this week. Yesterday I wore lots of TF Eau de Soleil Blanc, which led me to compare it to B&BW Coconut Lime Verbena that I used to love in college. The TF is a more polished, sophisticated version to my nose. I did browse eBay last night for the B&BW and am considering buying either a shower gel or a partial bottle of body spray. But I have a whole bottle of the TF from a swap, so do I really need the B&BW? We’ll see.

    Currently in my shower:
Nesti Dante Dolce Vivere Sardegna Costa Smeralda Soap (Myrtle Nectar, Lentiscus & Helicrysum Shrub) – exceptionally long name. Perfect summer soap.
    Korres Fig Shower Gel
Molton Brown Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel Bath & Shower Gel – this is a mini bottle. I bought a set of mini shower gels last year, I think 10 in the set, and I only have one left to use after this.
Garnier Whole Blends Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter Extracts Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner
Klorane Sun Radiance Nourishing Shampoo with Ylang Ylang Wax

Yes, anxiety to the point of getting sick is really awful. I’m not very close to my family these days, physical distance and otherwise, so a big worry is that this decision would further isolate me from them. Only time will tell, but my mom did give me some good reassurance on the matter.

And yes, we smelled great yesterday!

A friend of mine was also invited to a wedding across the country of a niece and felt very guilty for saying no, having attended all the other ones. But flying across the country is a big deal right now.

I wouldn’t go to a local wedding for that matter either.?This might sound judgmental and/or snarky, but weddings don’t require an audience.? Good job making the decision that was right for you. I don’t think that’s snarky, it’s the marriage that lasts, not the wedding imho. My husband and I got married at the courthouse, just the two of us, and I’ve never regretted it. I remember a cousin getting married in her parent’s living room. Whatever choice is made, you’re just as married. Just my two cents.

Oy. That is hard. Sounds like there was a lot of pressure to attend the wedding. Your not wanting to travel by plane or to be in a large group-setting makes a lot of sense! I’ve been to weddings where various family members were unable to attend (no idea if it was a big issue or not), and they invariably sent telegrams or some such in lieu. If it makes you feel better (and it may not, then no worries!!) you could send a very nice bottle of champagne to your brother and his betrothed at the wedding venue, or some other splash-out thing with a message that they receive in a very public way. At my sister-in-law’s wedding, during the speeches, someone read a letter to the her and her husband that was from a friend who could not attend.

I recently moved to New Mexico from California, and my skin is NOT liking the lack of humidity. I have discovered that if I shower every day like I used to, I get extremely dry and itchy, so now I only shower every other day unless I’ve been sweating up a storm moving around furniture and unpacking boxes. I was worried my hair would get super oily, but it’s working out fine.

I am EXTREMELY excited to have a proper tub in the new house! It’s separate from the shower and has a built-in headrest and arm rests, which is wonderful. Baths are one of my favorite things so it’s great to have a nice tub as opposed to the tiny, cramped one I had in my old place. My favorite ritual: warm water, Le Labo Rose 31 bath salts (I have several packages from staying at Fairmont Hotels during an extended Canadian vacation a couple of years ago; I will be sorry when they’re gone), a cold beverage, and a magazine. I was not happy about moving for many reasons (nothing against New Mexico!) but the beautiful new tub is a nice consolation prize.

    6. FuturePrimitive Soap Co. Cardamom Milk Brown Sugar Scrub (yummy! milk, honey and spices – like a chai tea without tea)
    7. FuturePrimitive Soap Co. Four & Twenty Blackbirds conditioning hair rinse (might be the best fruitchouli I tried and the scent fills the whole bathroom)
    8. Bielita HydRoseDeluxe Hair and Body Dry Oil Rose Veil (very affordable and has a lovely fruity rose scent I think I smelled before; needs a sprayer though)

Totally unrelated to the poll’s theme, but I wanted to share my excitement. My choir took part in the virtual choir competition, and today our video finally appeared online.

I was not there, but feel very proud of my fellow choir members for doing this.

I totally thunked a sample of YSL Libre today, nice enough, but not bottle worthy, although I would take it for free…. Topped of with Cabotine for the evening.
    My current shower gels are
    Roma
    Korres Fig
    Petit Marseilliase Fleur d’Oranger
    Roche Posay Lipikar Surgras

    Shampoos
Fanola No Yellow fory grey hair – cheap and good!
    Klorane Ultra Nutritive
Moist Diane shampoo from Japan, I love the name, it sounds like the pseudonym of a porno starlet!

Bioderma Atoderm Creme unscented as a body cream

I’m pretty simple when it comes to shower gels and just have one: neutrogena rainbath. I’ve tried others but always come back to it so I’ve decided to just stick with it. It’s a unisex scent to me so it works well for my husband and son, as well as us girls. I love the way it smells and if there was a perfume that smelled like it I could see it being a signature scent. Does anyone know of one?
In other smelly news my 4th of July freebie from Dame came yesterday. I thought that was pretty quick! He included a sample of Duality from his other line, I like that more than the sample I ordered, lol. I went to his site and ordered a couple more?always in search of the perfect musk.

Shower gels: Hermes Orange Verte & Rose Jam

Soaps: an orange blossom I came across that smells amazing. I don’t even know the brand but after my first bar I went back and bought 6 more!
On deck are La Florentina Agrumes di Boboli that smell great. Alao a treasured bar of Chanel 19 soap that I’m saving for I-don’t-know-what.

Hair: various conditioners & deva curl cowash.

I used to love baths so much but have lived in an apt with shower only for 20 years. I love my place except for that one thing. I’ve had friends offer to let me use their baths but it just isn’t the same as steaming & lathering up then crawling into freshly washed sheets. In my bed.

    In the shower
Aveda Be Curly Shampoo, Consitioner, Styling creme. and some Cheapo hair gel. I usually style my hair when it is soaking wet.
Body wash: Lush Rose Jam, and Honey I washed the kids. I try to keep only a couple of products in the shower at the time.
No fragrances today as I am about to start on counter sealing project. Later will be trying on some of the vintage Shalimar

My skin decided to revert back to the sensitivity of my infancy a few years ago. So, out went just about all of my scented products. The best thing about the upgraded routine is the beautifully soft (non-itchy) skin I get from epsom-dead sea salt baths. I have been able to hold on to one scented bath product though: Bastide bar soaps. I’m obsessed. Currently, I’m using Figue d’ete.

I definitely soak in a bathtub with equal parts epsom salt + Dead Sea salt. I tried one sea salt soap, and it was just soap. I believe the recommended way to benefit from mineral-rich salts is to soak in them.

The shower is very minimalist – Matrix shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair (works just as well when my hair is dyed red!) and Palmolive soap from the supermarket. I’m certainly not averse to beautiful soaps and body washes, but it’s more money available for perfume 🙂
We’re trying again to go to the supermarket this morning, the car battery was flat yesterday. Since we do a lot of walking rather than driving, the car doesn’t get a lot of use and a flat battery is not unusual, so we have a battery charger on hand. Today’s attempt will be scented with Jolie Madame – a no nonsense approach that should see the car behave properly.

Shampooing with Phytokeratine and conditioning with Paul Mitchell Keratin Intensive Treatment.

Loads of different kinds of bar soaps. No shower gels, but some bath stuff. Nothing too fancy. I do own a bottle of Rose Jam, but don’t use it very often as I find it rather drying. On the shampoo front my favourite is Deciems Stemm shampoo and conditioner. Extremely hydrating for my dry and frizzy hair. I only keep a few functional bodylotions in the shower and keep the nicer ones in my bedroom so they won’t spoil.

My SOTD is Emotionelle by DelRae layered over Nuxe body oil.

Mine are mostly bought locally in France whenever I’m there on holiday. For citrus I’m currently using a lemon and red clay bar made with donkey’s milk in Normandy and a verbena one bought in the South.
I love Marius Fabre soaps, they are very hydrating and smell really nice. Those can be found online, although I don’t know how easily available they are in the US.
L’Occitane Verveine is a great soap bar. Wonderful smell and very soft on the skin.

    I lovelovelove these polls!

Shower gels: Every Man Jack in Citrus, (has nubby scrubbies in it that I love), Fresh Hesperides and Shikai Yuzu. If I had to choose, I’d say I like the Yuzu the best.

Hair: Pantene Sheer Volume (does the job), Herbal Essences White Grapefruit & Mosa Mint shampoos (the HE smells fantastic), Love Beauty & Planet Murumuru Butter & Rose hair masque (the 1.5oz trial size has lasted 5 applications at least) and some anonymous leave in conditioner.

Face: St. Ives Avocado & Honey soft skin scrub, CVS brand of Cerave and a Buf-Puf in extra gentle. Oh, and hubster’s Pert Plus.

I’ve been faithfully working through my shower gel stash, but still have a ways to go before I can justify buying more.

SOTD = sample stash melange! Clean Warm Cotton (what got into me?), Dior Addict Fraiche, JHAG Gentlewoman and Montblanc Legend. I like the Dior; the rest I sprayed down at the foot of the bed. ?

We are almost done with taxes, thank goodness!

I’m actually on a quest completely unclutter my shower – but since I also have two teenagers who are into beauty and skincare, there are always more products in there and so I’ve been using up the discards:
    1. Love Beauty Jasmine shampoo – smells amazingly like natural jasmine. I feel blah about the shampoo itself, but I’m picky and have figured out that most “natural” brands don’t work super well for me.
    2. A knock-off purple conditioner that supposed to be like the Clairol shimmer lights one. I use it in ginormous quantities, but the bottle just doesn’t get any emptier. Smells like violets, leaves purple splatters all over the tile, doesn’t condition much. I will vanquish this thing eventually!
    3. Noble Emu Oil Zinc bar, recommended by curology provider.
    4. a teeny sliver of a handmade soap a friend makes using lots of stuff from her yard, including milk thistle. I have another big one on deck. They are very faintly scented but really moisturizing.
    5. La Roche Posay Effaclar.
    6. Pantene Naturals sweet orange shampoo and conditioner from Costco. That’s what the teenagers now use.
    7. A never-ending supply of tee tree oil conditioner by TJ that nobody uses but that my husband keeps buying (he denies this).
    8. Lush stuff (shower gels, bars, scrubs) my kids own and get very angry about if you use it.
    9. TJ citrus body wash for husband.

I’m keeping notes on all the shampoos/conditioners – always looking for the perfect one that hits the balance between unfrizzing and not weighing down.

Ready! Set! Go! There is one truly excellent bar of Angelica soap in my shower right now plus Pacifica Salty Waves Shampoo and Conditioner. There is currently Hand in Hand Cactus Blossom Body Wash, Kiss My Face Peaceful Patchouli, Lush Rose Jam, B&B Rose Water and Ivy(smells fancy, but the cost is not), Crabtree&Evelyn Iris, B&B Violet, Sandalwood and Eucalyptus and Juniper Ridge Coastal pine, gels all. I have the lotions that go with most of these. Or I can mix the Coastal Pine essential oil with Argan oil or unscented lotion. I have successfully implemented the shower gel leftovers reduction plan by putting these in the pump soap dispenser in the kitchen. There is some leftover Every Man Jack Cedar body wash in there now. I guess we need another weekend poll for what is stashed in your linen closet(at least 25 bar soaps).

SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Souffle d’Oranger

On first application, it was light Shalimar with plenty of jasmine. Within a few minutes, orange blossom took over and then a few hours later, Classic Shalimar came out, along with orange creamsicle vanilla! Overall, a successful large sample purchase YMMV. I got my bottleporn 50mL from Amazon. I’m happy to split up to 25mLs ($12 for 5mLs). Please dibs here and send me an email with the Subject “Shalimar Split”.

I finished my taxes and need to assemble for snail mail. I still have to do mom’s (hopefully easier) and her estate (not ready for this and I have to file an extension).

Shower gels on hand at the moment are Rain Bath (the original scent) and Shikai Yuzu. There are tiny bottles of a few Molton Browns (my favorite of those is Bushukan) and Body Shop Satsuma in the closet that I occasionally add to the rotation. And for hair I have KMS Tame Frizz shampoo, conditioner and leave-in balm that all smell heavenly – they have a sort of cocoa note combined with something else that I can’t quite identify. Yummy.

SsOTD have been Cristalle for crossword puzzling and some yard work, and Eau d’Hadrien post-shower.

Boscia Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser. This is my summer face wash. I’ve been breaking out a bit lately, so I’ve been using a spot treatment from Clinique.

    In the shower:
    – ivory soap
    – Beekman Whitewater shampoo (love the scent but difficult to get foam or rinse out)
    – Hask shampoo (forget which kind but it is ok)
    – Not Your Mother’s Shampoo Blue Sea Kale and Coconut (good enough)
    – husband’s dandruff shampoo (yuck)
    – Loreal conditioner, one of the sulfate free ones in a squeeze tube

    In the tub:
    – Sea kelp soap, Scottish Fine Soaps (Love this one)
    – Necessaire sandalwood shower gel (really smells like a soft patchouli, a Christmas gift I am using sparingly)
    – Crabtree and Evelyn Seashell gel

I alternate shallow baths and showers, since I prefer to wash hair in the shower but use the tub otherwise. I wash my hair about 3-4 times a week. I like to use shower gels as bubble bath, otherwise prefer nice soaps

I am wearing Juniperus today, by Fiele. Very hot today so I wanted something earthy and refreshing. I first found this one on a trip to Marfa, in days we could still travel.

I’m currently alternating between Philosophy Cinnamon Buns shower gel (a staple for years now), and their Coconut Frosting shower gel, which was more of a one-time impulse. There’s also a jar of vanilla-almond-coffee sugar scrub for days when I want to gleam. It’s funny — I don’t go in much for gourmand perfumes but I tend to like smelling like baked goods in the shower. I also keep a largeish stash of Lush bath bombs on hand always, although these days I’m often too tired or too hot for a bath.

Post-bathing oils include Wowilla and Rose Delight, Bobbi Brown Beach, and Rodin (a splurge I likely won’t be able to justify a second time, but I believe it made psychological sense at the time).

    Great topic!
My shower gels: Mrs. Meyers Clean Day, surprisingly moisturizing, pretty scent; Lush Rose Jam; Old Spice Timber – the hubby’s light mellow sandalwood.
Soaps- local organic handmade rich honey and oatmeal bath bar; Lightfoot’s Pure Pine Athletic bar- deodorant soap that does the job, doesn’t irritate hubby’s secretly sensitive fair Irish skin and makes the shower smell like a pine forest.
Shampoo and conditioner: Pureology Strength Defense – works wonders for my fine splitting hair- makes it soft and bouncy, doesn’t weigh it down with too goopy conditioning, but does stop breakage. And smells great. My hair dresser comments every time I go for a trim about how long my hair has gotten. This is like my dream shampoo. It seems pricey- but it is super concentrated – you use a dab the size of a dime of each product and a bottle lasts for months.
Facial cleanser: Purity facial cleanser – stops my rosacea breakouts like nothing else, when I use it with Lancôme Génifique Youth Serum.

I used to use a Suave, which seemed fine until it wan’t and my hair would be greasy an hour after I derived it. Then I used Garnier Long and Strong for years until it started making my hair act just like Suave does. I used Aveda off and on but it doesn’t condition my hair, plus, hubby apparently has negative associations to Shampure from an old relationship. I’ve been using this Pureology for about a year and a half, and it really helps my hair. 🙂

I seem to lag way behind on the shower gel/scent score! I have nothing much. Plain Dial white soap. Oribe shampoo-that does have a lovely fragrance. And a facial soap by a local Texas maker, Lacey Farms, that has lots of nice stuff like coconut and shea butter, with a lavender-rosemary scent. I don’t much care for anything sweet or floral in my cleansing routines, I’m an herb girl.

Yesterday in a bathroom at my doctor’s office they had Meyer hand soap in apple cider. WOW is that stuff potent. Not really my thing at all–too sweet. Some might like it.

SOTD was HdP 1873, Colette. Perfect scent for hot weather.

I switched to bar soap about 8 months ago and have been using Tuft woolens body soaps – they are moisturizing and made locally to me. They have a great scents – currently using flat white (coffee/milk) and on deck is sage and blackberry.

The winter went on for ages, then bang straight into summer – it stopped snowing on May 8th and two weeks later we had our first heat warning. Hasn’t let up since. Normally we only get this heat in July & August but we’re getting a double dose this year. But then everything has been FU this year.

Our tiny old house is a work in progress that hasn’t extended to the single bathroom yet. Not much space in the tub/shower and while I love luxurious shower gels I’m a drugstore girl. Good old Pantene hair products, Tree Hut Rose body scrub, Method Man Cedar & Cypress body wash, Olay in shower lotion and, since it’s summer, a big bottle of Dr Bronners Peppermint soap. Absolutely the best way to cool down after getting home on a hot sweaty day. I always have a bar of soap from Soapy Gnome, a local shop, and it’s time to order another scent.

I am enjoying everyone’s comments: for me, this is a funny-you-should-ask thread! Normally my answer would be Dove unscented soap, because DH has sensitive skin and I like Dove so I just go with it. But it so happens that I also have the last few drops of Mahora Perfumed Bath and Shower Gel that I got in a gift set score from Ebay, and a tube of Rihanna Rebelle Perfumed Bath and Shower Gel! I have eyed those Chanel and Guerlain solid soaps, but I guess I am too cheap and prefer my perfume in the bottle. But that Mahora…..I get the whole love of luxury body washes. Even though it was old, it seemed fine and left my skin soft and smelling like my much-loved Mahora. I have the Rihanna from a gift set, too. I tried Rebelle because I saw reviews indicating it was like Queen by Queen Latifah, which I like to have (thanks again to a *certain* NST swap buddy) and it really is not too much like to me; but I still enjoy it. Since our lobby is still not open to the general public, I went all out and Rebelle was the first time I ever used body wash, lotion and perfume all together. No co-worker said anything, but I could smell the coffee-chocolate-strawberry cloud hanging over my work station when I got back from lunch, LOL. Don’t think I would do that again with Rebelle, but it is still fun. The lotion was nicely scented, but seemed a little sticky BTW. My Jergens or a B&BW one went on better.

Fiori di Capri as church scent this morning. I do love having a reason to put on a summer dress. Especially a linen one. And a straw hat. The weather was much more pleasant today, so I walked up to Target after worship. They did not have the Olay Strawberry Mint products mentioned earlier, so I was spared adding unnecessarily to my bath products.

Although….having mentioned the lilac soap I love, I saw that it seems rarer than usual, so I bought a couple from New London. Will wrap them up tightly to preserve the scent and tuck them away.

If you are interested in participating, please email me today with your list of top 4 samples. For you and your matched pair (if one can be found), you each pay $9 (includes shipping!) and you will receive the same set of 3 samples; I ask for a list of your top 4 as that increases the likelihood of a match. In any case, you can read my participant rules by going by reviewing my post around the 12:23pm Eastern mark on last week’s Lazy Weekend Poll. One of you will be responsible for ordering.

I’ll do a separate post later for my bath & body stuff.

It’s really good. 8 sprays would have sufficed but 16 – woohoo!

At least the humidity is down somewhat today… doesn’t quite feel like soup to me.

It is actually not bad but my car almost went bonkers from the heat. The doors unlocked by sensor remote and when I pressed the Start Engine button, it said key not found! ?. I got out, locked the door with the remote, unlocked the door and the trunk, closed the trunk, got in and it finally started. I’ll observe further.

Akk! I have not had that happen, but I have been leaving my windows cracked while at work, yet having to watch for all the pop-up thunderstorms. Cars just get too hot if they are not in covered parking, if you don’t crack the windows!

Oh, that is strange! I wonder if there is a battery issue with either your car, or the remote key?

Happy Sunday, everyone! I’m in Eau de Cologne Imperiale + TBS Moringa body sorbet. Nice mix.

We’re having meatball sandwiches for dinner with homemade hoagie buns and meatballs (me), and marinara sauce (by the hubs). Feeling very calm and cozy, since the house smells like a combination of brewery and pizza joint.

I counted my shower gels this morning, and the count is 14, not including the two I’m using up in soap dispensers. I don’t think I’ve purchased any shower gels in 6 months, so I definitely need to call this a no buy!

Brews and pizza sounds good. I opened the kitchen window while fixing lunch, and had some clothes in the dryer which vents close to the kitchen window. An odd mix of hot laundry and baking cod fish swirled around little whiffs of the cilantro I was rinsing and picking over. I didn’t have time to really think about it then because I was rushing to finish lunch but your comment made me remember it!

Not exactly an answer to what’s in the shower, but I got a sample of Diptyque’s Body Oil (the Heure one) last year and was amazed at how beautiful and luxurious it was. Body oils feel like self-care in steroids to me. I researched a bit and am now making body oils with my favorite perfumes (one perfume each; I’m not mixing). For those of you that love body oils, it seems to be very very easy to make one at home and it’s a moment of real soothing in this anxious time. I’ve found a mix of apricot oil, almond oil and argon oil to be the best bet. It’s also a great use of samples you like but not love. I do 10-15 sprays for every 5mls of oil, but no real recipe is needed. It’s whatever you want!

Oh i see now what you mean by mixing! What about jojoba oil for this?

Good question! I researched which oils to use by looking up ingredients by Rodin, Tauer, Diptyque and a few other brands. I used Jojoba first (a la Tauer) but there’s something slightly off for me about it, so I started mixing in almond and apricot and argon. I also tried olive (not olive oil for cooking) and coconut but didn’t like either of those. I’m on the fence with grape seed. But I think you almost can’t go wrong, and I typically mix 5ml or so at a time, with perfume, so I don’t have to worry about it going bad. The jojoba definitely wasn’t bad! I liked the mixes with all 4 too.

So far, I’ve used the following perfumes to make individual Body Oils:
        – Chanel 5 L’eau
        – Penhalligon’s Iris Prima
        – LL Rose 31 (one of my favs)
        – OJ Woman (thanks to Missionista)

All have been fantastic. You guys have to try this! It’s so much less spendy than buying them by the brand! We could all use a little extra special care these days!

Oh this is interesting – I like body oil for knees and elbows. Following on to yasmina, what about squalene oil, ever tried that? I have an olive oil-based one that I use and it absorbs better than argan, which I also use and like. AND I love your chambered nautilus. He is one of my favorite critters!

        Knees and elbows!! Yes!!

I haven’t tried squalene. There was an olive oil that I tried that was one of the only ones that didn’t work well for me, because I picked up a smell (not like olives but something that I did not like).

And my avatar— I love all cephalopods. In another world, I think I would have been a scientist who studied them. It’s been almost 20 years since I last had any at home, but I had cuttlefish for a while (though never nautilus— the success rate is lower) and of course, I had octopus. My perfume hobby is far less expensive and heart wrenching when it goes awry than the cephalopods were! How do you know nautilus?

Earliest from the Oliver Wendell Holmes poem: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44379/the-chambered-nautilus.

Later from a funny memory of a trip to a zoo where they had one, and the docent said they had to put a tight lid on his tank, because once he shimmied out, climbed over to a next-door tank, and ATE one of the other exhibits!! 😮

I forgot to mention yesterday that I am using Bliss’ Pink Grapefruit and Aloe body butter on my shins. For whatever reason, I really enjoy scented lotions there. Even though the Bliss product is called a body butter, I’d say it’s more of a lotion consistency. And it really does smell like grapefruit! The Lemon and Sage version is waiting for its turn after I thunk the Pink Grapefruit.

SOTD = Le Labo Ylang 49, from the sample stash. I like it! ?
