Monday scent of the day 7/6

Posted by Robin on 6 July 2020 212 Comments

Another weekend gone! It's Monday and National Fried Chicken Day. Birthdays today: Frida Kahlo, Hilary Mantel. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm waking up slowly, in Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré.

Reminder: 7/10 is Piña Colada Day. Wear a perfume with pineapple, coconut, rum, or any combination of the three.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

      Aspara, are you a teacher?
      Which eaux is your favorite?
A dear friend of mine gifted me the Paris Deauville Shampoo and body wash for my birthday in April.
Middle Marzipan laid claim to it. Now methinks I need to get her the EDT for her birthday. ?

Ooh how is the body wash? Deauville is my favorite and I do not regret that FB. I think they make a smaller size bottle now too.

cm8, I am not a teacher, but I facilitate a lot of learning and meetings.
I am change management consultant and I take people through the change process. it’s rooted in industrial psychology and organizational development. What is so different about this change ( Covid -19 and everything that followed) is it was imposed on us. Usually people plan the change, communicate and work proactively to ready their workforce. This one was pure reaction and and now fatigue.
I love Deauville lotion with Biarritz fragrance. Middle Marzipan – she will love, no doubt.

Ok, I need to know: what is the connection between today and Thomas Cromwell?

I am doing Piña Colada week, and today I focus on rum. SOTD is Made in Italy (formerly Memento Italian Olfactive Landscapes) Roma. A rum perfume you can wear on a hot day.

Hilary Mantel wrote a trilogy on Thomas Cromwell. Click on Robin’s link: Mantel has made some funny and spot on comments about British royalty and Catholic clergy. And she seems pretty unrepentant!

And still, the third in the trilogy languishes on my desk’s side table. I raced through the prior two books, but currently doubt my capacity to read anything quite so doorstop-ular at the moment.

Did anyone else develop a big crush on Mark Rylance when the show was in TV? Much more appealing than the guy in the portrait!

I am reading it, but very slowly. I actually think it’s a great book it’s just hard to see him go.

Calypso, when I first saw this Holbein portrait of Thomas More I thought oh, that’s Rylance!

I don’t know…do you mean you tried to read it and couldn’t get into it, or that you couldn’t summon the enthusiasm to read it at all?

I guess I’d feel safer if it was the latter…if you couldn’t get into it, maybe the subject just isn’t that interesting to you?

    ciao a tutti (hello everyone)

I am smelling beautiful today, in my other favorite “S” perfume Songes

Thanks to smokeytoes, I am still eating peanut butter toast every morning…today I made a cappuccino at home with almond milk.

Thrift store outfit of the day is Anna Sui dress I bought for 10 bucks at Housingworks here in NYC https://images.app.goo.gl/s3SRe6DE1EiumCJ6A

No affiliation, but over the weekend I ate the best pistacchio gelato I have ever had on this side of the pond, Polosud on Mott street. You will not be disappointed New Yorkers.

Mondays will no longer make me blue, because my Italian classes start this week on tomorrow, so I will be looking forward to the beginning of the week, every week.

SOTD: Santal Blanc. I’ve lost some of my perfume mojo, but this oddity always seems right.
I’ve also lost my cooking mojo, same as a number of people here and had a lunch of broccoli slaw and fried calamari, bought at a deli/take-out, but both super fresh. And yesterday for dinner I made toasted cheese sandwiches, but with a really good aged white cheddar and a shop bought Indian chutney made with green chillies and coriander/cilantro for the US. Both these simple meals were surprisingly good. Hang in there, fragrant folks.

I have lost my cooking mojo until my neighbor gave me all these herbs to “plant sit” while she is gone for a month. I started roasting veggies with lemon thyme, butter and sage, and making caprese salad with the basil, mint tea. The one I am not sure I can cook with is the lavender.

There is a lovely recipe “idea” for dessert using rosemary: infuse organic, flavorful honey (sadly the kiddie beebottle honey will not do, you need dark and funky) with rosemary by gently heating some sprigs with the honey before discarding it; then drizzle the honey over sliced wheels of blood orange.
For lavender and rosemary recipes Diana Henry’s cookbooks are great.

That chutney sounds wonderful. I have intentions to cook, or rather make cold salads to have on hand since it’s so hot, but my husband has a mildly annoying habit of unknowingly devouring key ingredients before I get stuff made. Then I lose my cooking make-do mojo and give up. It’s too hot to shop or think. We’ve been eating a lot of cold cereal.

Totally off CP today in Violetta. But it is making me happy. And PriscillaE’s comment will have me checking out my sample stash because I may have HdP 1804 in there.

I am two weeks post-major-emergency (non-COVID-related) surgery; I’ve been home for ten days. All is well and I should recover fully (and be better than ever!), but am looking at about eight weeks of recovery time…and so my working life is up in the air. I’m a professor; I do not get paid for summers, but of course I generally spend them working full time on my own writing and on course prep. That has ground to a screeching halt, which means that thinking about fall really freaks me out right now — even more so than it would with just the “regular” uncertainties about how fall instruction will unfold.

Woke up in Courtesan today and people having epic tantrums over wearing a mask was a little funny in the beginning but now is pretty sad. Wearing Zagorsk today to combat the heat.

People had epic tantrums about masks back in the early 20th century during the Spanish flu, too! I keep repeating this because I think there is a general idea that it’s symptomatic of our current political landscape, but no.

Good morning. I am wearing Caron Piu Bellodgia today and drinking my second cup of green jasmine tea.

This past weekend my parents celebrated 55 years of marriage 🙂
My sisters and I had a small family dinner for them at a local restaurant. This was made all the more special because my Mother got out of the hospital the day prior to this. The doctors are confident they can manage my Mom’s problems by adjusting her medications.

Robin, I was confused when I saw the painting of Cromwell, then I scrolled down to the mention of Hillary Mantel. I did watch Wolf Hall, and it was very good.

Had a fun 4th with my fam, despite a crabby email from my boss. Ah well. Dealing with it now.

In Mure et Musc Extreme, which is only sort of ringing my bell this AM.

In less than tragic but definitely disappointing COVID-19 happenings–My older son is transferring colleges, and needs to do a transfer student summer school program for his new school. He starts today. I really feel for him. Online was not exactly the way he imagined this all going. Each class is seven hours a day. Blergh!

Sympathy with your son’s disappointment, but hoping (for your sake) that he is at least transferring closer to you. My eldest son turns 17 this year and universities and where he’d like to go has become a favourite topic of his. My husband and I are not as thrilled as we thought we would be!

Well, farther away, actually (but upstairs in his room for the time-being). But in many ways he’ll be closer in that he’ll be near friends and places we would normally want to visit, so we’ll have more reasons to fly across the country. That is, COVID-19 and the gods and goddesses permitting!

A lot of fireworks, no sleep, one anxiety-ridden (22lb) cat, and two friends were diagnosed with Covid-19, one with severe pneumonia.

I could easily do a week of the CP, but Chanel Paris-Deauville was calling my name this morning, so that had to be my SOTD.

I am about 1/3 of the way thru The Mirror and the Light. Good stuff.

Monday! It sure is. Pestilential cat has decided that he wants breakfast at 5:30am for the past 2 days. ARRRRGH

But only 6 more work-Mondays left (including today) before retirement, woo hoo! My boss still has not officially told my team that I am retiring. Though the word is leaking out, of course.

Actually I was thinking I might want to nip into the office this week to clean out my cubicle, before the county decides they have to close down offices again. I haven’t been to the office since February…!

Yes, we’d celebrate with you! 🙂 It seems like it would be a good time to retire from work. I feel like there’s just so much wackiness going on in the U.S., but I’ll stay vague. I’m still trying to avoid the news on TV to the extent that I can and just concentrate on what I can control or enjoy in my own little “real-life” world, and my interactions online with people who share interests with me. I think of it as mental health self-care. 😀

Nice and light and bitter. ?

This past Saturday, I posted about a deal on Bruno Fazzolari perfume samples: essentially $9 (includes free shipping) for a 3-customizable sample set. The catch is that the same set of 3 will be sent to another person. I offered to pair up people; just send me the list of 4 you’re interested in and I’ll match you with someone. If interested, please read my comment on the Lazy Weekend Poll around the 12:23pm Eastern mark. Since this is only good for July, I’ve asked for the emails to be sent to me by July 10th.

A real winter’s day here, with snow predicted later. Bracing myself to take Alex into hospital soon. During lockdown I cut his hair and noticed a mole on his ear which I couldn’t recall seeing before. It turned out to be melanoma and was removed but today he has to have surgery to remove lymph nodes and about 2cm off his ear. Poor guy…not only a terrible haircut but cancer and hospital dinners as well. Not sure about perfume but thinking Bat!

Wow, so glad you caught it! Hope the recovery is quick — I don’t know anything about getting lymph nodes removed so apologies if that’s just stupid.

I thought of you today when I looked at the Longwood Gardens (near me) youtube channel, they’ve got a botanical lecture from a fellow from New Zealand, looks interesting:

This past weekend marked my first days back to work in over three months, so I ‘celebrated’ by wearing Bottega Knot on Saturday and Kitten Fur on Sunday. Yay that I am getting excited about perfume again!

I’ve been hunkered down today. First part of the day was hot and humid. ?? Second part has been lots of thunder, lightning, rain and wind… at one point I couldn’t even see the front of our truck in its parking spot, the rain was so heavy! Some of the thunder was so intense that it shook the house. ⚡☔? Scary weather out there right now.

We got about 5 minutes worth of hail – various sizes and shapes bit most were a ragged cube shape, most between 0.5” x 0.5” and 0.75” x 0.75”. There was aloud racket and I really hope my wondows were not damaged. My car looks ok. We got a deluge of rain with a lot of bowling going on. We do need the rain so the soaking was good … the only negative is that we will continue with the hot and humid over the next few days.

Please tell me what you think of that one. It sounds so refreshing for the summer heat.

Just saw your comment a little while ago. I’d call this particular JM “a chypre light” or a “summer chypre”. I get citrus, a little bit of fresh, very green basil, and a hint of something woody or herbal. It doesn’t really change on my skin.

I have a rant, but will save it for tomorrow when I have more time.
Sotd is Narciso edp white cube. I’m always curious how much I have left in this bottle. The opaque glass is so heavy, it’s hard to judge.

Maybe a gentle shake could tell you how much is left? Listen to how much liquid is sloshing around when you do that.

If you had the right shaped container you could fill it with water and place the bottle into it and see where the float line is… If the bottle were able to stay erect.

Late check in…..started out in Cuir de Lancôme and migrated to Arielle Saturday after the shower.
Stayed pretty busy today with laundry and housework, which was good for my state of mind. ??

I wore Vivacious yesterday for a true pick me up!
Immediately I caught the violet leaf, reminiscent to me of OJ Woman and a lovely slightly candied violet. It is a bright crisp and energizing scent. The dry down (I lost the middle due to the horrid heat and some exercise) is a slightly sweet comfy amber and something green. Good longevity. I reapplied at bedtime and it’s still here.
