Thursday scent of the day 7/2

Posted by Robin on 2 July 2020 202 Comments

It's Almost-Friday, and World UFO Day, and don't forget July is National Ice Cream Month! (Plus, Donatella will be stopping by shortly.) Birthdays today: Thurgood Marshall, Larry David, Jerry Hall. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermes Vanille Galante, from Erin's 5 Perfumes: Ylang Ylang.

Reminder: on 7/3, wear a perfume with ylang ylang, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing the wonderful Marions-Nous by Oriza L.Legrand. It’s a classic aldehydic floral and probably my favourite of the line.

Tea is Swan Lake, again. Not sure whether I really like it or not. But it’s interesting.

Do you think it makes a good wedding scent? (Aldehydic floral does sound charmingly wedding-y.)

If you like retro aldehydic florals, yes I think it would. Plus it comes in a gorgeous bottle with tassels.

Nostalgie by Sonoma Scent Studio is also a retro-style aldehydic floral, and it would make a lovely wedding perfume, IMO.

I’m not much of a bottle lover but I’m ridiculously fond of tassles, so yes I agree.

Those tassels make the 100mL bottles a lot more appealing than they would be otherwise.

I am wearing Lush Jungle body spray -cCypress, ylang, vetiver. And I washed with Lush Sex Bomb shower gel earlier (jasmine, clary sage, ylang). Lush perfumers seem to love ylang.

    What a beautiful picture.
I’m in Samsara edp for ylang, jasmine and gorgeous sandalwood. I have a cute mini from a generous NSTer (you know who you are☺️) and the formulation is different from my full bottle. It’s better, smoother. It’s really working for me today. We are supposed to hit 90 today with 90% humidity so either I am brave…or foolish. Lol. Only time will tell.
My daughter doesn’t start her job til next week so we’ll be able to go up north for the 4th. Even though there is no parade, there will still be fireworks. It’s gonna be hot there too, so perfect beach weather. My favorite little beach is not well known so sometimes we luck out and have it all to ourselves.?

I hope so too, but even if we don’t it’s never very crowded and people are chill.
Happy 4th to you and your family! Hope you don’t have to work. My son is working up north and living with my parents for the summer so I’ll get a visit with him too.?

Post shower the last of my Eve sample. I tried Frost yesterday but there was no love.
Started watching Lennox Hill on Netflix the other night. It’s wonderful. When I was about 7? My grandmother had surgery there. I remember a dark brick building with small waiting room.

    Hi all, happy almost Friday!
My SOTD is Samsara extrait by Guerlain (dabbed, so it doesn’t bloom too much) – it’s cool in SF today, I think it will be perfect and not overwhelm.
I’m bleary eyed from another night of fireworks. 😯 I put the insomnia to good use by finishing my book, The Late Show by Michael Connelly, fast-paced and excellent read. About to start the next in the series, Dark Sacred Night. Kindred by Octavia Butler is next, when it is available through SFPL. 🙂

      Guerlain twins!

      Enjoy your books!
Wish you were closer so we could exchange.
During the shut down, I became like a library, and lent out so many books to friends, and now waiting for some of them to be returned, since I didn’t read all the ones I gave out.

Nice! I may wear Samsara again tomorrow, depending on how warm it is. I am interested in starting the series you just completed.
*sigh* my must-read list grows ever longer, that’s what I get for working in a library! I wish we were closer, exchanging books and vintage clothing shopping would be at the top of the list!

Mohur by Neela Vermiere today, four big sprays.

This is my favorite perfume of all time. I recently noticed that the fill line is still in the neck, after years of owning a full bottle, and I resolved to wear it often and lavishly. No point saving it for special days. (Also, I used to be a timid one-sprayer, but quarantine and social distancing has changed that!)

Wearing Zoologist Hummingbird today, which does contain ylang. It smells so good!
My husband’s garden is flourishing in the heat. Sorry if I’ve already talked about it here, but he built a rabbit fence around it and has used all these tips he’s picked up from watching gardening shows on PBS, I’m really proud of him. He planted six jalapeño plants, lol & omg…..they are prolific and while we love them, that’s a LOT of peppers! Not sure what to do with them all.

I love the name Hummingbird for a perfume! How would you descirbe it?

Growing one’s own food is so satisfying. I definitely couldn’t have a veggie garden without a good fence to keep out both rabbit and deer. The rabbits are everywhere this summer, so the foxes should show up soon.

Zoologist perfumes are all supposed to have something to do with the animal name’s habitat, if I remember correctly. Hummingbird isn’t my usual kind of perfume, I smell maraschino cherries, cream, some musk, some other fruits and florals. It’s really good.

Oh good for him! Our fence is not groundhog proof, we have lost a lot of produce this year 🙂

But we had enough lettuce for us AND the groundhogs this year, and last night ate our first batch of green beans.

Our local food bank takes extra produce, but even then not sure you will find takers for that many jalapenos 😉

Jalapenos freeze well! Just remove them stems, and seeds if you want less heat, then buzz them up in a blender or food processor. The puree can easily last a year when frozen.

Felt so good to get a haircut! And the people in my place are so nice. It’s a big space, and they never feel full, so I had no issues. I was too ambitious in February with short bangs and layers. Didn’t care for how it looked, but it certainly served me well in the lockdown. All he had to do was clean up the now-long layers.

Terracotta today. I figured it must have Ylang-ylang. Yep. I sometimes get a plastic note at the opening but that was less noticeable today.

Made my peach tart yesterday. I think next time I’ll pile on more peaches – it’s very good, but flatter than I’d prefer.

I don’t fit the CP today but I do smell warm and fuzzy in Arielle Shoshana Sunday. I woke up feeling a bit nauseated, so I needed something to settle my stomach. It’s helping a bit.

It’s my birthday month! I informed the fiance that he needed to give me a present every day of the month, but he says presents every day of the birthday month aren’t a thing and that the request is outrageous, the cad. I’ll keep trying to get him to see reason.

Any tips for how to make the most of the upcoming three-day weekend for two people locked at home with only each other? I’d love to do something more special than just have a two-person cookout and/or a lawn picnic.

As to what to do, maybe do up a picnic and drive to a favorite (not crowded) place?

      1. Go into separate parts of the house and make each other surprise gifts using found objects
      2. Pick a favourite piece of music, maybe one you want at your wedding, and choreograph an entire dance of epic moves ( or learn one from youtube) …you can perform it at your wedding
      3. Recreate a July 4, 1776 meal, no electricity , and try and dress appropriately and eat by candlelight
      4. Read the Declaration of ndependence and discuss
      5. Plant a tree and bury a covid 19 time capsule under it

SotD = Eau des Merveilles + Eau des Minimes

I’m wearing two scents because I put on one, ate breakfast, got dressed, then grabbed another bottle. Ah, well, I guess I shouldn’t make any important decisions or go base jumping today.

Time for a walk. I’m tending a friend’s Australian cattle dog, and she loves long walks, getting things done, and taking orders. It’s the life of a working dog, and it’s a good life. 😉

Another reason I’m so down. Mom was not at all well in the call yesterday. I mean, the call itself went all right, but her dementia has worsened, and there’s not much surprising in that after four months of being locked down. My brother wants to find a way to get her out but I’m not sure how or where or what could be done to keep her safer than where she is now. Even my limited coming and going, not to mention that of any staff we’d need to have for helpers, would put her at risk as much as where she is now, perhaps even more. Sorry for non-perfume-related moaning. Thank you.

Hi Calypso, so sorry about worries for your mom. Such a difficult time. A friend here hasn’t been able to see her mom (who has dementia also) for months. It was really hard for her mom when they locked down – no visitors at all. But, they seem to have gotten through it for now and she’s traveling to see her mom soon. I guess outdoor visits will be allowed now.

We had the really scary time early here in NYC, and I’d say just staying close to home and doing the proper things will keep you safe. You can’t control other people, but you can control what you allow around you.

We are fogged in here at my house today… I am listening to the trees drip fog on the roof. Very peaceful. I’m off work for the rest of the week, yesssss. And according to the water company, we don’t have water, but we DO, so I got caught up on the dishes. (Makes up for the day before when they said we would have water but we DIDN’T. For 24 hours.) They claim they will finish all the repairs today. Hope so, hauling buckets of water to the bathrooms is old already.

Decided to wear three sprays of Aromatics Elixir, which also contains ylang, although i cant smell it.
I did get a very short haircut yesterday, because i saw a salon opening in the morning and just asked, if they could give me a quick haircut. it was dirt cheap, just 25Euro and the cut is quite nice. Now i have all my bleached blonde cut away and now try to embrace my grey. Saves me time and money too.

I did that a few years ago, so nice not to have to deal with the colour any more.

Welcome to the grey club! My hair cutter yesterday told me he likes mine. Good, smart man.

I’ve probably got plenty of things with ylang ylang, but haven’t been quite focused enough to look. L’Heure Bleue for me today.

Second entry today…. stopped up at a Korean beauty place that reopened yesterday. Unfortunately the items on sale online were not on sale in the store. Since they aren’t needs, I didn’t bother. Stores will have to figure some things out going forward. I was interested in some of their scented body lotions, but no testers obviously. And nothing behind the counter where the SA could control access. So…no sale.

Stopped in Bloomies across the street after. Chanel SA sprayed a few items on cards for me. The Guerlain SA was very nice. Made me samples of AA Ginger Piccante and Bergamot. And, she gave me a very pretty hot pink and white cloth tote bag to carry them in. They do custom bottling of some of the scents there also. Limited inventory but pleasant experience.

Today I received my first-ever sample order from Aedes. Wow, was that ever beautifully packaged! Color me very impressed. They also slipped in 3 extra samples! ??

SOTD = Heeley Eau Sacree Extrait de Parfum, from the sample stash. Yay for incense! ?

So glad to hear they still do beautiful packages.

And pretty sure they did my first sample order ever! Way back in 2003 or something.

And it didn’t take long for the package to arrive, either.

Back in the office this week so I’m ‘fume-free during the days. Sprayed on lots of Bronze Goddess tonight in an attempt to chase the rain away. Let’s hope summer shows up soon!

I’m back to wfh next week so will be spraying myself silly.
