The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2020 18 Comments

Along with yesterday, more for the pile of "spendy things I probably wouldn't like anyway" with lemmable packaging: layered 3 wick candles from Jo Malone, in English Pear & Freesia and Lime Basil & Mandarin (above left) and Pomegranate Noir and Peony & Blush Suede (above right). $245 each at Nordstrom.

Dang, those are way too pricey! But gorgeous.

Very pretty. I don’t know who “invented” layered candles but I know the Jo Loves line has been doing these, so they do seem like copying. Still, yeah, pretty.

Thanks for posting this: now I can reassure myself that my lockdown splurge $105 Cire Trudon candle was a huge bargain! ?

To be fair, the Jo Malone candle is a three wick, 21.1 oz, 60 hour burn time giant candle, but I’m 100% sure it doesn’t smell anywhere near as good as my Abd El Khader.

I find the price hilarious — even with the size and burn time posted by nozknoz. I suppose for the real “money is no object” crowd this is pocket change. (I look at it as 2/3 of the way to a bottle of Winter Palace — which I also consider to be be beyond my budget but from which I would get more than 60 hours of pleasure). 🙂

It is pretty funny. My advice if you have the $245: buy the Cire Trudon Salta for $115, and use the rest for something else.

You sure have been talking that candle up 🙂 It’s almost a good thing I’ve got a sensitive kitty; it keeps me from buying even more candles.

I’m sorry, I’ll shut up. I just love it 🙂

You might hate it! For sure your kitty would hate it.

I want Maison Francis Kurkdijian to do an Absolue Pour le Soir candle (as well as an APlS body butter, an APlS hair mist and an APlS body wash), but what are the chances of a perfumisto wish like that coming true??

I don’t know, that doesn’t seem out of the question.

In an interview, he said he sold only 50 bottles of APlS in one year, compared to thousands of the rest of his line, yet APlS is the masterpiece

I have an APLS candle! It’s gorgeous. I bought it at Arielle Shoshana several years ago.

I’m sure that with the current retail apocalypse they’ll be doing more deals than usual once stores reopen & as we get towards Christmas to try to claw back as much lost cash as possible & to try to get shoppers back into stores. I’ve already had one from Selfridges offering £30 off any £100 spend before the end of July ?

Thinking back to 2007/2008/2009, I believe midrange offerings in the future will be less nice. (I’m not talking about the market of people who were completely unaffected by or even profited from the pandemic). Definitely, if you see something you really want and can afford now, snap it up.

Mmm, personally I don’t spend more than 10 bux on a candle, more just doesn’t make sense to me. And I just generally don’t get enthused about Jo Malone anyway.
