Chelsea Physic Garden x 4

Posted by Robin on 23 April 2020 6 Comments

The Chelsea Physic Garden, near London, was established in 1673 as the Apothecaries' Garden. We start with an introduction, followed by (below the jump) the head of education, Michael Holland, introducing the wildlife living in the log pile and the wormery (6 minutes). Then 8 minutes on The Art and Healing Power of Plants, a 2019 exhibit in collaboration with Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. Last, a quick introduction to 3 carnivorous plants.

    Thanks for this.
My two little ones are enjoying the link you gave me for the butterfly life cycle.
I will show them the longer videos of these ones you shared.
    You are saving my sanity

Do show them the carnivorous plants video, especially. It’s short but it’s narrated by a little girl — they don’t give her name, but she is fantastic.

Kudos to you, Robin for either already knowing or finding out about this gem in Chelsea. It’s a favourite place of mine to visit when I’m in London, the cafe & gift shop are superb, & the gardens gorgeous, but surprisingly many locals aren’t aware of its existence.

Nope, I had never heard of it! Found it, and zillions of other gardens, poking about on YouTube.

It is probably a very bad thing, though, that I’ve started to “like” or “dislike” gardens based on their videos. So, glad to hear Chelsea Physic Garden is as likable as their videos suggest 🙂

LOL, the Wormery makes me think of my poor friends failed try. She set up a worm composting bin in her basement, but she didn’t really know what she was doing. She didn’t feed them enough so they ESCAPED! Worms all over her basement floor! We still laugh at the memory of the horrible site.
She re-tried (I don’t know if I would have been brave enough for a go-around) and her second attempt is now going on 10 years.
