The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 8 April 2020 11 Comments

Will we ever be able to buy hand sanitizer again? Who knows. But if this one ever comes back in stock, I'm planning to buy it: Grove Collaborative Hydrating Hand Sanitizer in Blood Orange. "This is not your average hand sanitizer! Our 7.5 oz gel is fast-absorbing and eliminates 99.9% of germs for clean hands in a flash. We've added coconut oil for hydration + it has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties and 100% natural essential oils for a lovely blood orange scent." $7.95 for 221 ml. (And if you have a favorite hand sanitizer that smells great, do tell us about it!)

    This does sound good!

Lots of small/indie brands have been making good-smelling hand sprays and gels…I’ve put my favorites into a Story on my Instagram (@tinselcreation), and I know that my Instagram buddy @spritzi_mcgillacutty has done the same!

MCMC Fragrances has been making it — I sent some to my sister (a health care worker in the US) last week. They have two scents: Yuzu / Vetiver and Geranium / Jasmine.

They’re currently backordered until 4/15, but that’s still not too bad. It is more expensive than the Grove sanitizer, though.

Yeah, the indie sanitizers seem to run $15-20 for 2 oz. Considerably more than drugstore brands, but made on a much smaller scale, and at least they’re available…

One indie brand was initially charging $58 for 2 oz., which seemed nothing short of price-gouging.

The price gouging in general has been grotesque.

I currently have the super cheap Simply Pleasures brand in Island Coconut.
It’s certainly not fancy and doesn’t have coconut oil for moisturizer, but it was very inexpensive and it smells nice. I guess I don’t see any advantage to spending money on hand sanitizer EXCEPT whatever will make people use it.
