Thursday scent of the day 2/13

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2020 283 Comments

Almost-Friday plus World Radio Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm a broken record: still on vacation, (still behind on reading comments), still in Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess.

Reminder: 2/14 we're celebrating Valentine's Day. Wear the perfume you are most smitten with at the moment, or, wear a perfume given to you by a significant other.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Well, look at it this way: there is a certain comfort for us in the fact that you are still wearing Bronze Goddess, still on vacation and still behind on reading comments. There is an element of safety in predictability.

That said, I’m wearing an old favourite and favourite combination: Heure Exquise dry oil and edp. It feels luxurious and exceedingly soothing at the same time.

Madtownteen loves crocs and that’s all she asked for, for her birthday last fall. When she opened them, you’d have thought I had given her the world, she was so excited. Not sure she’d like that pair though, lol.

What I really find very unpleasant is the chicken smell ?. The design as much as I find it horrible is something that would not surprise me much seeing people wearing. There are worse things out there that people wear everyday. ?

I’d say you’ve got to like those odd plasticky, play-doh style vanillas to appreciate it and it seems more straightforward than I imagined it would be. The immortelle is pretty subdued, just a hint of that (made up word alert) carameliness in the dry down, so don’t let that put you off if your phobic.

    SOTD: Narcisco EDP

I’ve not worn this in a while but I still really enjoy it. As we like to say, it was calling my name. So nice that it lasts all day long too.

We are back to rain, ugh. I’m not enjoying this winter at all weather-wise. Not having long days of sunlight is one thing but cold, rainy weather just makes it so much worse.

Ok, it’s Thursday and we are one day from a 3-day weekend – yay!

Aedes Oeillet Bengale, because I love it and it fits with the CP. My husband didn’t buy it for me exactly. He did give me the gift certificate to Aedes and was with me as I was trying to decide what to buy. He strongly urged me to buy the travel spray set of OB. I wasn’t convinced, but it very quickly became a favorite. (I have learned to listen to him on such things, especially shoes…). All sorts of rosy carnationy spiciness….

It was a toss up between White Cube and Coromandel this morning and ultimately went with Coromandel. Never a bad decision.
I finally got a rejection email from the dream job that I interviewed for way back on New Year’s Eve.? I figured since it was taking so long that that would be the case. It’s probably for the best since it would have meant relocating, but still, hard not to take rejection personally. Oh well, at least I smell fabulous today!?

It is hard not to take rejection personally. I had a similar thing happen to me this summer. It upset me for quite a while but it did pass again. I’m now absolutely fine about it, although I would still love another job.

It is hard, but there was a bit of a red flag during the interview. The manager had not even been there a month and seemed less qualified than I am….this delay leads me to believe she doesn’t have a handle on the job yet. I don’t want any part of poor management.

    Good morning Y’all….

Well, I started the morning in Commodity Velvet, but had to scrub it today. Not sure why, but it was annoying me this morning with just one spray? Guess I just wasn’t in the mood.

Anyhoo, since it’s still raining raining raining raining and raining some more, tonight I’ll be sporting Dance in the Rain by Bath and Body Works. It’s either pout about the flooding and paying $225 for a roof leak repair this week, or DANCE in spite of it! I choose dancing as much as possible….. 🙂

SOTD #1: LAP Vanille Absolument (originally called Havana Vanille). I love the narcissus note in this.

SOTD #2 on my wrists: Mary Greenwell Plum, thanks to the generous Oakland Fresca!! I’m surprised how much I like this because it’s much different from what i normally wear. However, I remember Mals86 (?) raving about it on NST over the years, and because I like other things she likes, I wanted to give it a try.

Sipping hot coffee while waiting for my windshield to defrost and then heading to pick up packages, which is always a fun beginning to the day.

Totally not perfume related, but has anyone ever been to the Tucson Gem Show? I’m off during the show and was thinking of heading down there, but hesitant about crowds, parking etc. If you’ve ever been, please chime in.

I have been to the Sacramento Gem Faire, not sure if the gem show is a much bigger deal in Tuscon or a different kind of beast altogether? At any rate, it was not a crazy packed experience at all. I went there during my jewelry making phase and bought a bunch of beads and enjoyed looking at all the precious stones for sales. Prices are much, much better than anything online but you have to buy larger quantities. But- maybe I’m totally off here and the Tuscon gem show is actually more of a geology / gemology get together??

SOTD = Tauer PHI Une Rose de Kandahar

pfl67 wore this yesterday! I was going to wear another perfume but decided it would fit better with the unicorn community project.

After wearing PHI twice already 7 weeks into 2020, I will go out on a limb to say that it will be one of the perfumes I will save were I to be mired into some version of the apocalypse since I will still share and I know it appeals to a good number of us (this is assuming of course that the perfumistas will somehow be in the same area, family optional if that’s your desire ?).

He’s due for the second, so I guess I’ll do more prodding. He and I both remember having actual chicken pox as children, so we know the virus is lurking somewhere. I hope you feel better soon! If ibuprofen isn’t helping much, maybe acetaminophen? They work differently so sometimes one helps me when the other didn’t. Hang in there!

Teeny weeny update on the second front: I finally applied to a job yesterday, after six months of definitely planning to apply asap no really. The final nudge came in the form of a recruiter from a competitor who reached out to me. I don’t think I want to work there? But at least it has finally made me read over my resume and email it out.

My number one rec for a good book that is not depressing at all is “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter. (set in Socal and Italy, mostly – so sunshine built in).
I also really liked “A gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles (history novel but a good yarn, the type of thing you can read before bed and it’s just cozy and fun).

In Les Nereides Oriental Lumpur, a spice fest of all the spices I love, saffron, peper, cinnamon and so important… no cumin. It’s now firmly my budget Trayee. The only downsize is that I think it’s discontinued, this bottle is vintage.

Still unwell. It’s my stupid sinuses trying to kill me again. The doctor won’t give me any more antibiotics because he hates me. I have to wait two more weeks to go in so he can tell me to get some kind of scan. Have I whined enough? Lol.
Sotd is Oud Bouquet. Haven’t worn this in a while. I’m concidering putting it up for swap. It’s very nice, but so strong! I only use a half spray in the cold weather.

Definitely soft, office appropriate, no strong woody notes, has a clean vibe, easy to wear. Ok, I better stop praising this before I head off to evil bay and do something silly!!

    BUT!
When I first sniffed my SOTD many years ago,my first thought was “ahhhhh….yes….I found my Mugler”.And I truly did.Miroir de Majestes, you beautiful sunbathed sexy amber…Let’s not forget the creamy milky jasmine/cardamom and a tiny bit of oud.Just lovely.Happy Thursday!✌?

Oh, but it gets better! After being on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes, I got an agent who told me that since I had booked the ticket thru United (which I did because they answer after 5 minutes, not 2 hours), and I did not have her Air Canada record locator number (even though with the ticket number she could see I had a reservation) she could not help me make a pet in cabin reservation. So I had to hang up, call United for the AC number, and I am back on hold again… so far 1 hour 19 minutes and counting. Never again.

Get better to all those ailing. Personally, when I get sick I try to stop wearing make up, both to minimize touching myself and to avoid contaminating the make up. So a spray of perfume helps lift the spirit a little.
Last night, I noticed that it was still daylight when I left work. Today is cold and rainy. So it feels like early spring, although it still just mid-February.
Due to the rain, I am wearing Apres L’Ondee.

Thanks everyone for sending such kind and wonderful thoughts my way. I think grief is a little like having a newborn baby in so much that you have to re-learn how to negotiate your world and that takes time. I quite like that sense of a circle. I think I will get my sense of smell back when I get my appetite back.

Happy Valentine’s day Kanuka. I think you are exactly right about food and perfume… when we feel off, our senses are affected. I lost a ton of weight because everything I ate tasted like sand during my divorce. I don’t remember wearing any perfume during that time either. Go gently and be kind to yourself as you relearn your way.
