Wednesday scent of the day 1/15

Posted by Robin on 15 January 2020 228 Comments

Hump Day, and Martin Luther King’s birthday (the Martin Luther King Day holiday is next Monday). Depending on where you are and who you ask, you might be halfway through meteorological winter. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m staying warm (and it's really not all that cold here anyway) in Diptyque Volutes. It does list immortelle as a note, in case any immortelle-haters are looking for a painless way to participate in this week's community project.

Reminder: on 1/17, wear a fragrance with immortelle, if you have one. Suggested by Hamamelis.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Since my husband vehemently nixed Salamanca last week, I wore Jeux de Peau yesterday and today to be on track with the project

I got the old vehement nix from my entire family when I sampled Angel many years ago. And it was a tiny spritz. I haven’t gone back.

Oh, vehemently nixed isn’t good. The hubby did that with my vintage Jicky PdT, had to sell it off. I cried when I sent that bottle out the door to it’s new owner. The hubby HATES lavender.

I refuse to give up my Wrappings though.

Oh no!! I’m sorry about that vintage Jicky 🙁

Mine vehemently nixed SSS Winter Woods, so for a while, every time he would go out of town, I’d wear that every day, whether or not I really wanted to.

Wear your vehemently nixed perfume should be a community project ??. You lived to tell the tale, no?

Or, for the ?, wear what you ended up wearing after you scrubbed off the nixed perfume.

Won’t work so well with singles, though! We did already do a project on perfumes that got negative mentions, I think, but will look.

But singles have friends and family who will not think twice about vehemently nixing perfumes.

My husband HATES Fils de Dieu! He usually hardly notices what I wear, but he unerringly says: You’re wearing that one that I don’t like. I may eventually cave and rehome this one.

Strangely, both my husband and elder son like Agent Provocateur (original) which, to me, smells strangely sharp and of perm lotion the more I wear it. Must be the saffron…

Sipping chai, my FIL has agreed to show me how he makes it but not his recipe for spice because it’s a secret he says. He will show me before his journey back to Canada. This evening, Mr L and I bought them tickets for a broadway show, so I will have a busy day with the kids since they are usually monopolizing them everyday while they are visiting. My oldest said, “mommy I don’t want YOU to pick me up, only Grandpa! I don’t want YOU!”

Shalimar body powder again. As per SmokeyT I put a little in my bed before sleeping. I haven’t pulled the trigger on buying a FB of this yet, I was looking at photos the other day when I would match my perfume with my tea (since I had Shalimar tea, also gone!)

Oh yes…He LOVES to be the preferred one. Even to his wife! HA!
I am happy they get this day to themselves..they go shopping and out for lunch and dinner and then a nice show.

I have a running joke with Mr L that his parents love our kids more than they love him. He doesn’t disagree but makes a joke of it..

Plus if your kids prefer him to you, he’s the perfect grandpa (my son would take my mother over me any hour of any day) and we should all have a perfect grandpa.

My favorites are The King Must Die, The Nature of Alexander, Mask of Apollo, and The Charioteer.

If you’re a fan of Renault, I love Circe and The Song of Achilles, both by Madeline Miller. Both are quite good!

After Hyde yesterday I’ve swerved as far as possible in the other direction and am wearing the lovely, pretty, cheerful floral Vie Privee thanks to perfumelover67! It’s just the kind of thing I’ve been in the mood for lately. Freesia was my favorite note in my teens, and then I got contrarian about florals, but now I am wanting to seek it out again. I’d love to hear about your faves, especially those that come close to the flower.

    SL Chene.

I guess I am an immortelle hater. In Chene, I do get something herbal, but it is not the immortelle from Sables or Tilda Swinton. The other two immortelle scents, which I am going to wear on Thursday and Friday, are quite painless too. 🙂

I was doing a Rogue week, right up until I got sick on Monday. I was home in pajamas yesterday, huddled up with my cats. Today, I’m at work, but my hands were shaking too much to get the cap off the Rogue sample. So, I opted for what is becoming a go-to, Niki de Saint Phalle. The bitterness in the scent is bracing to me right now, and it was right near my bed.

It was hidden underneath a piece of paper on my very cluttered living room table. Papers, pencils, keys, headphones, smartphones, perfume vials, candles, receipts stuffff…..everywhere!

Of course I’ll make sure things dont get filthy or nasty (traces of food, dranks or left overs get cleaned up right away, same goes for mud, sand and other dirty stuff)

But most of the time I prefer to do other things than keeping my room tidy ☺️.

gardenia/tiare is def there, but also a bunch of other white flowers (jasmine).
The flowers are non indolic to me, but its def not a fresh scent. I think thats because of the moss and vetiver.

Marie Kondo peeps don’t seem to understand that for some people, clutter IS joy, and overly organized homes and belongings look joyless and bland. In particular Kondo-ed kitchens and clothing drawers freak me out.

I’m participating in the CP in my ELDO Like This sample. I want to like this one, but it just doesn’t draw me in. It seems very linear and I’m not a huge immortelle fan, so…

Delrae Bois de Paradis is calling to me for later.

I layered an almond soliflore roll on with a natural cherry almond roll on. The latter is very cherry cough drop or Jolly Rancher cherry candy. I’m delicious.

Hoping last night was a bit of a breakthrough. New kitty, Agnes, was on the bed. I was able to sit and pet her and brush her and she was purring like crazy. I was also able to change into pajamas and get into bed next to her. She stayed. even after my husband came in and also sat on the bed petting her. Finally at one point she saw my feet moving under the covers and it made her nervous…this unknown creature moving about. So, she took off. She still moves about the place a little low slung to the ground, like a feral. But the tail has begun to be upright a bit more too. Baby steps.

Aww, that’s a really good sign. She hasn’t been with you that long so that is actually a quick development. A friendly-ish feral we adopted out took 3 months to come out from under the bed during the day.

Hi all, my SOTD is Balmain’s Ambre Gris. I think it’s the one scent I have with immortelle. I don’t wear it often, it’s best when it’s cold out.

Making plans to try and trap one of my colony cats this week who appears to have worsening dental problems and is losing weight. Fortunately, another rescue group has offered to help me with the trapping and extending their rescue vet discount with me. I’m dreading having to go talk to the lot owner to try and convince him to give me access. Onwards…

Which is going to be tricky for our work schedules but we’ll try and make it work.

I adore immortelle! I’m wearing a healthy dose of HdP 1740 (Marquis de Sade), which is a patchouli-immortelle bomb, and I love it! I would swim in a vat of this if I could! Today is another foggy morning. We’re having a spate of weirdly warm wet weather–it got to 79 yesterday. Back to my t-shirts, goodbye to cashmere sweaters–I hardly knew you!

Do you know, I’ve always thought immortelle smells a bit like curry, but the SAs at the shops where I mentioned this looked at me like I had said something scandalous. Are they related plants?

Palissandre d’Or on another immortelle-free day (not because I don’t like immortelle, but because I am too lazy/tired to use the part of my brain that can think of whatever scents I have with immortelle in them).

Just got through cutting up a roast for soup while wearing Jubilation 25. Having some issues that are shooting my anxiety through the roof and dealing with a little bit that I can handle today. About to take a shower and hoping that I can finish what is giving me anxiety so I can spend the rest of today and tomorrow relaxing. I am happy though that I am finally getting the holiday pay that I was entitled to and that is helping a little bit. I thing that I will wear vintage Mitsouko after my shower.

Like you I never made any resolutions, but am trying to be on a no-buy for perfume for a few months, no promises though. I almost broke my no-buy for shower gel (because of the backlog stash), but remained strong so far). However, I noticed a Chanel lipstick that is possibly calling my name.

Monsieur by F Malle from a sample. And I drank some forest fruits tea in the morning. It hasn’t been too much winter here as well.

Do you normally get a harsh winter? I’m not really sure where you are at. My winter is running late, but it always shows up.

Yes, we do in Eastern Europe. Last winter we’ve had snow from November until March and there were temperatures below 20 Celsius for many days. This winter I’ve barely seen snow and the temperatures are mostly around 0 or higher. But the winter is half way, so who knows. It seems it’s the warmest winter ever or something like this, which is not something positive…

It’s a snow day! I am at home, and will be spending quite possibly the entire afternoon reading on the sofa.

Working on emptying the last of the Cuir de Lancome. Emptying a bottle seem psychologically a lot more difficult than emptying a decant, for some reason.

I agree, I have some bottles with 2 sprays left, that I won’t let myself empty. Some though, I will thunk with joy to be rid of.

Another day of wearing a perfume that has immortelle that I don’t pick up on. This time it’s Tabac Tabou. I may have used one spray too many but it’s calmed down now.

I’m back at the office, yay! Though most of my coworkers in my department are still working from home. The streets were completely clear to drive on this morning and most of the snow had melted from my car. The temps are a little warmer today too.

On an iris kick with Hajusuri. Nuit Etoilee EDP today. Maybe TDC Bois d’Iris tomorrow? Or Iris Cendre? Found some nice running shoes at 63% off. Made my day!

I checked and I own three fragrances with immortelle. Today in Lolita Lempicka L, sometimes I think I only got it for the pretty bottle but today the scent clicked with me and I’m happy with it.

The good news: sunny and mild today, weather-wise. And the cats got a new kitty heating pad to hang out on when the weather turns cold and nasty. The bad news: one of my friends in now in hospital for an ulcerated foot. It’s nasty… she’s been on IV antibiotics since yesterday.

SOTD = back in Relique d’Amour today.

Yes, my cats are spoiled! But if a heating pad keeps them from stealing my seat on the couch, it’s worth it. Thanks for the sympathy.

Yes, Elisa P, the issue is diabetes related. Turned out to be an infection in the bone of her big toe, so it’s getting amputated. I’m a little scared for her, tbh.

Yes, we purchased the first kitty heating pad for my much missed old lady cat, Jinx. She spent almost all her time of the heat vents, and we figured that the heating pad had to be more comfortable for her. Then the heating pad got passed down to the current bunch of cats.

Commando for fragrance Wednesday, but Mom and I got to Longwood Gardens in the afternoon and did a loop through the conservatories. Though the Orchid Extravaganza doesn’t officially start until the 18th, it’s supposed to be colder this weekend than it was on Wednesday and possibly snowy. A lot of the orchids were already out on display, so that was nice. There are such a wild variety of shapes and sizes and colors of the flowers of different kinds. From what I understand, Longwood Gardens hybridizes a lot of their own.

There were a few masses of amaryllis that hadn’t been pulled yet. I enjoyed seeing them. We saw many, many sorts of flowers. 🙂 I always enjoy seeing lilies. At this time of year, the camellias are blooming, and the acacias are starting to bloom.
