It was during this trip, somewhere around Giverny, that I began to wonder if it would be possible to create an en plein air sniffing group — that is, an informal society of scent enthusiasts who would be happy and willing to sit outdoors, together, and inhale the air.
I was drawn to the simplicity of the project. Rather than lugging heavy and cumbersome easels, canvasses, paint boxes, and palettes, we would need nothing more than our own noses, a small notebook and pencil in which to jot down fragrance notes, warm clothing for cool days, straw hats for hot.

Happy Art House / Stunt Perfume Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that you find weird and wonderful but that might not be appreciated by anyone but another perfumista. Bonus points if you’ve ever received a spontaneous negative response or odd question and still wear it! Thanks to HemlockSillage for the idea.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I’m in one of the few fragrances that I never wear out of the house: Serge Lutens Miel de Bois. They do still make this one, but I can only imagine that it’s softer and mellower than it used to be. If you’ve tried a recent version, do comment…
