Boulder-based award-winning perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, owner of DSH Perfumes and retail space The Essense Studio, has kept the residents of the Front Range and beyond smelling delightful with her ever-evolving arsenal of handmade botanical scents. In her nearly 30-year career, she’s crafted thousands of perfumes — each with their own distinct story. Filled with fresh organic ingredients, often mirroring the scents found in nature, these innovative offerings stretch far past the generic, mass-produced bottles of CK One and Chanel No. 5.

Hermetica Multilotus, Rosefire, Patchoulight, Sandalsun & Greenlion ~ short fragrance reviews

Hermetica is a new niche fragrance line that launched in 2018; it offers “a collection of molecular fragrances inspired by the ancient practice of alchemy” and was founded by John and Clara Molloy (the duo behind Memo and Floraïku), who decided to “create a revolutionary collection by not choosing between natural ingredients or synthetic molecules but using a combination of the two.” Additionally, Hermetica seems to be claiming the fragrances’ alcohol-free base as another innovation.

Friday scent of the day 6/14

Friday, plus Flag Day and World Blood Donor Day. Our community project for today is the picture challenge, edition 4, part 2 (you can find part 1 here). Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Georgia O’Keeffe’s Blue and Green Music, shown above right. You can find snippets about this painting here and here.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I focused on color and movement, and ended up in Sarah Jessica Parker Covet. The crazy top notes mimic the movement that starts in the lower left hand corner of the painting and the dry down progresses to cover something like the detail in the whole of the lower left hand quadrant, as shown above left…
